I’m Trying to End This Possession Chapter 206

It was on the way to the Rolland Mansion. Allice was filled with excitement. I can finally get Mom and Dad remarried.
Her maid, Nita, assigned by her mom, had brought back the drug. That competent maid really had obtained the drug. The name is ‘Red Arrow’. But this wasn’t just a simple aphrodisiac.
Isn’t this the drug the barbarians use? It was a drug that those barbarians used during war to confuse the imperial army. The antidote didn’t work on it, and if one didn’t relieve their desires, their mind would break. An extremely vicious drug. In other words, it was a chemical weapon used on the battlefield.
Dad used to be a soldier, so I need something this strong for it to work on him.
Allice felt a bit uneasy, but there was no choice. The effect would be certain. This was all to keep the family together! Yes, it’s time for Dad to focus on his family again.
When Danae was alive, Carl felt like a stranger, always distant. He always cared more for Danae. But now, Danae is dead. She is gone forever.
Allice held onto hope. Yes, let’s think positively. Everything will be fine!
Truly, it seemed like everything would work out.
“Hello.”
At least, until Allice saw Danaena Rolland at the Rolland Mansion.
Allice turned white as a sheet, as if she had seen a ghost. She heard the sound of all her hope, or rather, the ground beneath her feet, collapsing.
“It’s nice to meet you, Allice.”
An evil spirit. Danae’s evil spirit had appeared.
* * *
Impressive, really. Dana admired Carl all over again. That man is truly carefree. To show up, grinning like that, at the mansion where his ex-wife and former father-in-law live…
“It’s so nice to have us all gathered like this, Allice. Thank you for arranging this.”
In contrast, Duke Rolland seemed quite uncomfortable around Carl. He even appeared nervous.
“It’s good to see you again, Carl. I’ve always hoped we could maintain a good relationship, but it seemed unlikely.”
Of course, most soldiers found Carl intimidating, especially the older ones. They remembered Carl Windsor from his days as a soldier. But since Dana had no idea about those times, she could hardly imagine him in a military uniform.
“As for the unfortunate events that occurred during your marriage, let me apologize on Sandra’s behalf.”
Sandra, sitting next to Anton Rolland, bit her lip in embarrassment.
Carl just smiled as if it were no big deal. “It’s fine. It’s all in the past, so let’s not worry about it.”
“Truly a magnanimous man. I’ve always thought you were a real man’s man.”
A real man, huh. Dana barely managed to suppress her sarcasm.
“Carl, I heard you took good care of my granddaughter Danaena when she lost her memory?” Perhaps in a hurry, Anton Rolland got straight to the point. “Because of that, it seems Danaena has developed feelings for you. What do you think? Would you consider remarrying my granddaughter?”
Clatter! Allice dropped her fork. She stared, mouth agape, glancing back and forth between Carl and Dana in shock.
Carl tilted his head. “Did Dana say she wanted to marry me?”
Dana answered instead. “Yes.”
Carl stared at her in surprise. He looked utterly bewildered, as if he’d heard something outlandish, and Dana admired his acting. You’re really a good actor, Carl Windsor. He must have known this would come up.
Before arriving in the empire, on this ship, Dana had asked Carl.
“If the topic of marriage comes up, just go along with it. We won’t really have to get married, just pretend.”
“Sure, I’ll do that.”
Carl had readily agreed. So he’d soon act hesitant but eventually go along with it. And when that happens…
You won’t just sit back and watch, will you? Dana glanced at Sandra’s face. She looked as if she might shatter at any moment. It was working. And not just Sandra. Words will reach Raios too.
Dana had made the first move, falling for Carl and proposing marriage. Once Raios heard about it, Carl would become his next target of jealousy. That way, Rumie would be safe. On the other hand, Carl himself would be in danger, but that didn’t matter to her.
Carl tried to kill me twice, after all. It was just a whim that he saved her both times, nothing more.
Dana didn’t trust Carl at all. She knew Carl was fond of her and adored her. But such cheap affection could vanish at any moment. If he ever got tired of her and if it became necessary, he really would kill her. But at least not now. For now, Carl Windsor truly cherishes me. So Dana planned to make full use of that affection before its expiration date.
“No. That won’t do.” Just then, Sandra, who had remained silent, finally spoke up. “This is something that must never, ever happen.”
“Sandra, quiet. What are you—”
“Carl, she’s your daughter!”
“What?”
“Danaena is Carl’s daughter!” Sandra shouted, her face pale as a ghost, her voice desperate, as if grasping at the last straw. “Danaena is the biological daughter of Carl and me! So that is absolutely, absolutely forbidden! God would never allow it!”
What is she saying? Dana feigned a shocked expression but mocked her inwardly. If you want to stop marriage, at least come up with a better lie. Who would believe that? Especially since Anton Rolland and Carl knew Danaena was an artificial human… They would never—
“My daughter?”
Huh?
“Dana… is my daughter?”
What’s wrong with him?
Carl stared at her, as if in a dream. “Dana is?”
What was with those eyes, as if even imagining it made him ecstatic? A sudden sense of dread washed over Dana. Wait. No way… Could it be…?
“Perhaps,” Carl mumbled absentmindedly. “Perhaps it’s possible.”
That lunatic!

It was that night. Carl was given a guest room.
“Stay here for a while and think carefully, to make sure your memory isn’t mistaken.”
Duke Rolland detained Carl.
“As you know, Sandra met many men. Danaena might not be your biological child.”
Duke Rolland was so desperate to make Carl his son-in-law, to the point that he was insulting his own daughter.
“Why did you do that?” Late at night, Dana went to confront him angrily.
Carl smiled awkwardly. “Well, I had to refuse.”
“What?”
“How could someone like me marry our dear Dana? That would be unfair to her.”
“…”
“Dana deserves a much better man.”
What? Dana’s head throbbed for a moment, but she clenched her fist and retorted. “Who said we’d really get married?”
“Huh?”
“You agreed to pretend, to act like we were going to get married!”
“M-Me? When?”
“Before we arrived in the empire, on the ship! Don’t you remember when I came to find you?”
“Oh.” Carl’s eyes finally lit up with recognition. “So that’s what that was?”
“…!”
“Honestly, I didn’t really hear what you were saying back then…” Carl confessed sheepishly. “So I just agreed without knowing what it was about. Sorry.”
Is he… seriously saying that right now? Dana’s blood pressure rose, her neck stiffening. She barely managed to keep her composure as she asked, “Really? Why didn’t you hear me? I made it very clear in front of you.”
“Well…” Carl answered, avoiding her gaze. “You had your hair tied up in these cute round buns, like dumplings, up high.”
“And?”
“It was very, very cute…” As if recalling the scene, Carl’s facial muscles melted into a smile. “So I couldn’t concentrate on what you were saying.”
“…”
“Sorry.”
