The Third Son of a Medieval Knight Family Chapter 53 - Tribal Conflict (18)

Author: Dawn

He didn’t even have time to confirm who it was.

Viktor immediately drew his axe and charged like lightning.

Whoosh-!

“Kraaaaaaak!”

The leg of whoever had revealed themselves was instantly severed.

Blood spurted out in a fountain, but Viktor paid no heed.

He grabbed the struggling man’s hair and lifted him up, then raised him to his feet by wrapping his arm around the man’s neck like a collar.

‘I’ll use him as a shield.’

As he advanced with the man in front of him and climbed over the wall, an enormous volley of arrows began pouring down just like before.

Thud, thud-thud!

“Gack, gurk!”

The man who had still been alive was killed by his comrades’ arrow barrage.

However, just because his life had ended didn’t mean his role as a human shield was finished.

When the arrow rain briefly ceased, Viktor simply threw the man away.

“Take cover!”

“Damn it!”

At the same time, his superhuman dynamic vision came into play.

‘Ambushes between the alleys… more than twenty of them.’

The number of barbarians aiming bows at him was considerable.

Viktor grabbed the mace he had stuck in his side and hurled it toward a man who was just nocking an arrow and about to shoot.

Crack!

The mace struck true and crushed the man’s face.

Without even confirming the hit, Viktor began running to the left with all his might.

“Wh-what?!”

“He’s coming this way!”

A few arrows flew at him, but he ignored them while covering his face with his forearm and charged forward.

The armored knight delivered a shoulder charge with terrifying momentum.

Crash!

The wall collapsed entirely, and the barbarian archers who had been lying in ambush behind it were crushed without being able to breathe.

Unluckily, one archer who took the charge head-on was sent flying with his chest caved in and crashed into a building.

As he slid down, blood trickled down following the corpse.

Viktor instinctively roared.

“Who’s next! If you want to die, stick your head out!”

With tremendous volume that made the entire square ring and insane killing intent began pouring out from Viktor.

The barbarians involuntarily hesitated.

‘I’ll press the advantage.’

He couldn’t let the momentum slip away.

Just as Viktor leaned against the collapsed wall and pulled out a javelin from the pouch tied to his thigh.

“As expected, a monster is indeed a monster!”

Someone suddenly began clapping and walking out from the opposite side.

Viktor didn’t bother listening and immediately hurled the javelin.

Swoosh-!

“You crazy bastard!”

The man cursed and barely dodged the javelin.

The javelin that grazed his cheek not only embedded in the wall but went on to collapse it entirely.

Crash!

“Aaaah!”

The screams of those who had been leaning against the back of the wall and got crushed were vivid.

The man involuntarily broke out in cold sweat as he looked toward where the monster-like knight was sticking his head out.

‘What kind of steppe monsters are these…’

To be able to collapse a wall by throwing a javelin was strength he had never heard of or seen.

At that level, he thought it could rival the power of the monsters that roamed the steppes.

The man quickly found other cover to hide behind before a second thrown spear could come, and shouted again.

“Even those who swagger around calling themselves knights are nothing special! How cowardly to attack before I even finished speaking!”

Viktor paid no attention at all.

He took out another javelin and fidgeted with it as he replied.

He intended to collapse wherever the answer came from.

“Wasn’t it your side that was cowardly first? Remove the archers. Then I’ll face you fair and square.”

“Hahaha! Why should I do that? Against bastards who attacked a village in the middle of the night, even this is too gener—ack!”

Viktor threw another javelin toward where the voice came from.

This time with more force, with the resolve to definitely kill.

The javelin instantly pierced through the wall and embedded itself.

Thick dust rose and screams echoed.

“You’d better save your next words for hell.”

Viktor drew his axe and boldly revealed himself.

Unlike before, he looked defenseless, but no one could easily draw their bow.

As the barbarian archers swallowed their saliva and looked back and forth between Viktor and where dust was rising.

“This bastard… isn’t just ordinarily crazy!”

The man who had been taunting him screamed in rage and rose from the dust pit, throwing something.

It was the corpse of a barbarian warrior who had died with a javelin stuck in his chest.

“What a shame.”

Viktor muttered with an expression that didn’t look sorry at all.

That sight was somehow eerie, making all the barbarians present feel chills.

The knight before their eyes… didn’t seem human somehow.

The man’s entire body was covered in blood.

But seeing him move around perfectly fine, that warrior had clearly died while embracing the man.

“Such touching loyalty. Aren’t you ashamed? Surviving by sacrificing your subordinate. If you’re a man, come at me properly.”

Viktor looked at the man with an emotionless expression.

The man’s face reddened as if provoked, but soon he exhaled and regained his composure.

‘Oho.’

As Viktor quietly observed this unexpected behavior, the man swept back his hair and shouted coldly.

“I’ve been preparing for quite a while… but the damage is greater than expected. You’re different from the principality bastards I’ve seen before, aren’t you? Damn… good, very good!”

Viktor focused on his head.

Every time the man swept back his hair, two curved horns came clearly into view.

“You bastards! Stop holding back! Give up on taking him alive. Just kill this son of a bitch!”

With those words, even more warriors began appearing simultaneously from all over the square.

And from behind walls, the remaining archers appeared one after another, aiming their bows.

On the surface, it was truly a desperate situation.

However, surprisingly, Viktor’s expression didn’t waver at all.

He opened his mouth calmly without the slightest sign of fear.

“Take me alive? So you came knowing who I am.”

“Huh? I don’t give a damn about that now! You’re dead, you son of a bitch!”

The man seemed to be trying hard to maintain his composure, but his face was already red with rage up to the top of his head.

It was perhaps natural since he had nearly died several times without even being able to exchange proper words.

“Who are you?”

However, when Viktor casually spoke to him again, veins finally popped up on the man’s head.

“Want to know? Then I’ll answer you. Go suck a dick, you son of a bitch!!”

As the man threw a tantrum, Viktor coldly spat out one more word.

“Foul mouth. Fine, if you don’t want to talk…”

At the same time, he took flight.

“I’ll make you want to talk.”

Using his left leg as a pivot with all his might, Viktor charged with explosive acceleration, making the barbarians cry out in shock.

“Get out of the way!”

“Shoot that bastard! Stop him!”

Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping!

Arrows flew in unison and unluckily one stuck in his shoulder blade, but Viktor didn’t make a single sound of pain.

He held his battle axe and put strength into his waist, swinging it widely horizontally.

Whooom-!

With a sound like buzzing bees, the tremendously massive axe made of solid steel began sweeping in all directions.

“Kuaaaak!”

“Aaaak!!”

The axe was impartial.

Relying on the acceleration from his charge, Viktor approached while spinning like a top swinging his axe, and the surrounding barbarians literally had their torsos and legs separated, becoming bodies without waists.

“Hiiik!”

“M-mom…”

“Gurgh…”

It didn’t matter who wore sturdier armor or who was stronger.

Such things were completely irrelevant.

Where the steel axe passed, only blood and flesh remained.

Thud!

Viktor, who finally stopped after spinning two and a half times, brought his axe down to the ground as if applying brakes.

The head of a barbarian who had been spilling his guts and calling for his mother was crushed beneath it, finally sleeping without pain.

“…”

None of the survivors could open their mouths.

Blood was scattered everywhere, corpses were splattered about, and those with terrible injuries screamed suppressed screams.

Viktor, who had turned the square into pandemonium with a single strike, was staring intently at the man who had frozen right in front of him.

“Th-th-this is…”

Viktor raised his fist.

“Do you feel like talking now?”

“W-wait! Just a moment! Wait, let me speak—gack!”

The gauntleted hand struck directly into the man’s face.

His teeth shattered completely and the man fell backward.

Thud-!

Viktor dusted off his hands and muttered.

“You seemed to have some status… there’ll be a lot to ask about… hm?”

When Viktor raised his head, he could see the archers on the buildings flinch.

Suddenly Viktor’s face twisted like a demon’s.

“Will you keep attacking!!”

“Uh, uaaaah!”

“It’s a demon! A demon has appeared!”

The archers lost their will to fight and began fleeing.

When they escaped, all the barbarians who could still move in that place ran out like an ebbing tide.

Viktor immediately relaxed his expression.

“My muscles seem to be cramping.”

He hoisted the unconscious man over one shoulder.

In his other hand, he still held the axe dripping with blood and oil.

‘Then… I need to find the others to treat Sir Yelchin.’

Since they had promised to meet in the center, the other knights and attendants likely would have visited here first.

Yet not seeing a single one meant…

The emotion called worry began to show in Viktor’s shadowed eyes.

‘Lukovich… be safe.’

Viktor began walking.

“Lukovich! Everyone! Are you safe! Answer if you’re there!”

Viktor shouted at the top of his lungs as he wandered around the village.

The unconscious man was tied up and placed next to Yelchin.

Yelchin was still unconscious.

Not only were there many places where arrows were stuck, but the amount of blood flowing out was quite dangerous.

If he wasn’t treated quickly, his life couldn’t be guaranteed.

‘Were they captured… or are they all dead.’

Viktor rarely showed an anxious expression.

It had been a deliberately prepared trap.

‘To release barbarians randomly while also planning another meticulous ambush at the central square…’

The captured man seemed to be the commander, so it was undoubtedly his work.

If caught unaware, it would have been a very deadly trap.

Just as Viktor was about to shout with all his might once more.

“Sir! Are you alright!”

A group appeared in the distance and began running toward Viktor.

“Oh, you all…!”

They were the attendants of the other knights.

Relief spread across Viktor’s face.

“Are you all safe! I’m curious about the situation. What happened?”

“That’s exactly the question we wanted to ask! Sir, are you unharmed? Those cunning bastards set a trap!”

One attendant with a large build shouted with an angry expression.

“We were suddenly attacked from the rear, and while the knights were regrouping, one of them was seriously injured. Fortunately, one attendant broke from formation so the charge stopped, and thanks to that we could immediately go support the knights.”

“There was an attack there too… is everyone alright?”

“Yes! Except for the injured knight, everyone only has minor wounds. But… there? Did you perhaps encounter an attack?!”

When the attendant shouted in surprise, Viktor nodded gravely.

“Yes, I’m unharmed but Sir Yelchin is seriously injured. If he doesn’t receive treatment soon, it could be dangerous. Please gather everyone. I also have a prisoner, so we should return to the castle first.”

Those who had been hesitating soon began following Viktor’s orders without realizing it.

The decision to return to the castle wasn’t originally his to make, but the attendants had already been overwhelmed by Viktor.

Not many could oppose a knight who was covered in blood from head to toe with gleaming eyes, especially one still full of killing intent that hadn’t subsided from the aftermath of battle.

Watching those moving busily, Viktor suddenly threw out a comment.

“By the way, you all… do you happen to know my attendant Lukovich? Is he alive?”

Looking at the knight who asked with worry-filled eyes that he couldn’t hide despite seeming calm, one attendant smiled.

“He’s safe, sir. You don’t need to worry.”

A relieved smile appeared on Viktor’s face.

The night raid that he thought would be overwhelmingly crushed had taken a strange turn and could have resulted in a major defeat, but he felt like he had safely gotten through one crisis.

That his servant was fortunately safe was a bonus.

Viktor’s thoughts were now moving to the next matter.

‘Just how… how long have these bastards been preparing?’

Thinking of the unconscious man, strength began entering Viktor’s hands.

There was a great deal he needed to find out.
