Resurrection Chapter 110 - I Haven’t Said Anything Yet

Author: nicotine

Park Sikyung was waiting for someone, fidgeting anxiously in the main hall of the Grand Temple. He already had the Gamma that Kim Yitae had asked for in his hands, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave the Grand Temple.

It wasn’t just because Kim Yitae, who was supposed to contact him about where to meet, had gone silent. It was because he had no intention of leaving the Grand Temple until he had confirmed the truth of the story he had heard from the high priest, Reverend Heo.

The story of what happened in the Den of Demons, which he had found out under the pretext of persuading Mr. Heesoo, was truly gruesome. He understood a hundred times over why Mr. Heesoo had abandoned the White Goddess and remained alone in the Den of Demons. If that story was true, Mr. Heesoo would never try to return as a Holy Knight.

Park Sikyung couldn’t be sure that he would act with the same mission as before. Kim Yitae had said he would make him the savior of the world, but it was questionable whether any love for humanity still remained in his heart.

Clutching at straws, Park Sikyung planned to meet Choi Jinyoung, the priestess who had actually entered the Den of Demons with Mr. Heesoo in the past. Since it wasn’t something Reverend Heo had experienced himself, it was hard to believe that everything he said was true. In fact, he didn’t want to believe it. He waited for Choi Jinyoung, hoping to meet the person who had been on the scene and find that Reverend Heo’s words were false, or at the very least, an exaggeration.

Choi Jinyoung, his contemporary and a fellow second-class apostle, hadn’t said a single word about the Den of Demons since returning from it. Even when the fact-finding investigation was in full swing, she had consistently maintained that she couldn’t remember anything due to mental shock. But at least she hadn’t spoken ill of Mr. Heesoo like the other priests, so he felt her testimony would be trustworthy.

Park Sikyung waited anxiously for Choi Jinyoung to arrive. She had said she would stop by the Grand Temple today, so he was camped out in the lobby, expecting her to appear soon.

His desperate wait, skipping even meals, paid off as Choi Jinyoung appeared. As soon as Park Sikyung spotted her, he ran over and grabbed her by the sleeve.

“Ms. Jinyoung!”

She looked at Park Sikyung with surprised eyes.

“Mr. Sikyung, what is it? Don’t tell me you’ve been waiting for me this whole time?”

“Didn’t I say I would wait because I had something I must ask you? There’s something I want to ask about Mr. Heesoo.”

“Mr. Heesoo?”

“It’s about what happened in the Den of Demons.”

At the mention of the Den of Demons, Choi Jinyoung’s bewildered face hardened in an instant. She shook off the sleeve that Park Sikyung was clinging to and said.

“As I’ve said many times, I don’t remember anything about what happened then. There’s nothing I can tell you even if you ask me about it now.”

Park Sikyung stood in front of Choi Jinyoung, who was about to just leave, blocking her way, and said.

“I’ve already heard what happened in the Den of Demons. But I want to confirm if what I’ve learned is true! I know that you’re the only one who can tell me honestly, Ms. Jinyoung!”

As he shouted loudly, Choi Jinyoung glanced around as if conscious of others’ eyes. She pulled Park Sikyung to a corner of the elevator hall and lowered her voice to speak.

“Be quiet. Now is not the time to be arguing about the past. Something big has happened at Dungeon 77.”

At the words “Dungeon 77,” Park Sikyung flinched. He looked at her as if to ask what had happened, and Choi Jinyoung, thinking it was a chance to change the subject, continued speaking quickly.

“I don’t know if you’re aware, but at the request of the Special Operations Unit, several of our apostles went to Dungeon 77 and seem to have met with misfortune. It looks like Kim Piljoong’s trap to catch Yaksha failed. I hear he lost Trishula and was seriously injured.”

At the mention of Yaksha, Park Sikyung’s mouth fell open. He too knew very well who Yaksha was targeting.

If he had recovered his divine weapon, wasn’t the next step Kim Yitae?

That was probably why there was no contact from Kim Yitae. Since Mr. Heesoo was by his side, Mr. Heesoo might also be in danger.

Shaking off Park Sikyung’s flustered hand, Choi Jinyoung continued speaking coldly.

“Kim Piljoong’s injuries are severe, so the Saintess has gone herself. As she left, she told me to inform the Grand Temple of this fact and to prepare to mobilize the priests. I have to hurry because of that, so if you understand, please let me go now.”

“W-wait a minute…! Then you don’t know where Yaksha went?”

He asked, thinking that Mr. Heesoo would also be where Yaksha had gone, but Choi Jinyoung snapped in irritation.

“How would I know that.”

It was then. The lobby entrance suddenly shattered as if a bomb had gone off. The entire building shook with the impact, and Park Sikyung and Choi Jinyoung staggered, screaming.

When he barely righted himself, he saw that the spiritual resistance barrier engraved from the entrance to the floor was cracked to pieces. Perhaps because the barrier was no longer functioning properly, something came pouring in from the shattered lobby entrance. What at first glance looked like black clouds or fog was none other than resentful spirits.

Whoo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh!

As people screamed and scattered, the resentful spirits climbed up the giant goddess statue and soared up to the lobby ceiling, which was open up to the 10th floor. Amidst the priests clamoring as they moved the injured, activation words echoed from here and there. Park Sikyung also hastily recited an activation word and spread his holy power. Blocking the resentful spirits from getting close, he muttered in disbelief.

“What in the world is going on?”

Choi Jinyoung didn’t seem to have any intention of answering his question. But as if in answer, she pointed to the collapsed lobby entrance and shouted.

“Th-there!”

Park Sikyung naturally turned his eyes to where her finger was pointing. And his eyes widened when he saw a figure striding into the lobby, trampling on the shattered marble tiles.

Two horns jutting out like dead tree branches, snow-white hair, a pale face, and a burly yet lanky frame. He couldn’t fail to recognize the man, whose appearance itself was conspicuous. Park Sikyung shouted, stunned.

“Yaksha!”

He had no idea why Yaksha had appeared here. He had defeated Kim Piljoong and reclaimed Trishula, so why did he come here instead of going to catch Kim Yitae?

But Mr. Heesoo was by Kim Yitae’s side, and he was once the White Goddess’s Holy Knight. It seemed the reason Yaksha had appeared here was related to that.

Yaksha briefly looked up at the goddess statue that stood as if supporting the building’s ceiling, his gaze indifferent. A look akin to contempt appeared on his face, and with a snort, Hmph, Yaksha took something out from behind his back.

It was Trishula. Choi Jinyoung’s words that Yaksha had defeated Kim Piljoong and reclaimed it were true.

Yaksha raised Trishula high and then swung it down forcefully. Park Sikyung thought the goddess statue, made with an enormous amount of money, would be shattered in vain.

But contrary to his expectations, a shield imbued with holy power blocked the attack. With a loud Clang!, Trishula bounced off, and Yaksha narrowed his eyes. Several high priests who had been staying at the Grand Temple stepped forward in front of him. One of them was Reverend Heo.

Park Sikyung let out a groan at the sight. The high priests were those who had become apostles long ago and were respected both inside and outside the Grand Temple. But having attained high positions, they had been away from actual combat for a long time. If asked whether they could handle the S-rank Awakened Yaksha, the answer was, unequivocally, no.

It was not their place to step forward, but they were in a position where they had no choice. The Grand Temple, which served the White Goddess, had been attacked by an evil being like Yaksha, so figures of their stature couldn’t just stand by with their arms folded. They had to step forward, if only out of fear of incurring the White Goddess’s wrath.

“Do you know where you are, causing a ruckus! This is not a place for the likes of you to run wild!”

Reverend Heo shouted, pointing his finger. Several high priests had formed a shield around the goddess statue. That was why they could dare to shout at Yaksha; if they were bare-bodied, they would never have been able to. Yaksha, knowing this, gave a twisted smile.

“I didn’t want to come to a shithole like this either.”

At a light nod from Yaksha, the resentful spirits that had been floating in the air descended upon the goddess statue like a downpour. The sight of them swarming in blackness and writhing was like looking at a scene from hell.

The faces of the high priests turned white at the sight of them wailing and clamoring. Seeing the shield they had put up shaking as if it would break, Choi Jinyoung, perhaps thinking she should help, shot forward.

“Shield!”

Starting with Choi Jinyoung, apostles who had been hiding here and there began to step forward and lend their strength. The shield surrounding the high priests and the goddess statue grew larger and more solid. But Park Sikyung couldn’t step forward. He couldn’t move. His feet were frozen to the spot as if they had turned to ice.

The shield might be able to push back the resentful spirits, but not Yaksha.

Seeing Yaksha grip Trishula tightly, Park Sikyung screamed and lunged forward. It was the moment he grabbed Choi Jinyoung’s wrist to pull her, as she stood close by.

Squelch.

Hot blood splattered onto his face, and Park Sikyung froze in place. When he opened his eyes wide, Choi Jinyoung’s body was limply pulled towards him and bumped against his chest. Something sharp had pierced through her, leaving a gaping hole in her solar plexus.

It wasn’t just her. The apostles who had stepped forward to help the high priests all collapsed like straw dolls here and there, with holes pierced through the center of their chests. Before they had all fallen, Trishula had returned to Yaksha’s right hand. After lightly twirling Trishula once and sheathing it on his back, Yaksha spoke suddenly.

“You there.”

Park Sikyung flinched. Yaksha wasn’t looking at him at all, but Park Sikyung knew he was speaking to him. Yaksha took out another weapon instead of Trishula and said.
