Resurrection Chapter 50 - Nothing Went Wrong, Did It?

“That is right!”

Next to me, who was cheering with sweaty palms, Min Gongchan muttered in displeasure.

“What a monster…”

As Heesoo hyung ran up its body, the Balaurs quickly flipped over. Its white belly was exposed, but Heesoo hyung swung his greatsword in the air and used the recoil to leap up. As its legs shot up to grab him, the Crest of Anatole unleashed its power. Suddenly, seven small shadows shot out from it, making a metallic sound as they swatted away the legs rushing towards Heesoo hyung.

The shadows, which looked like pitch-black fairies, moved dazzlingly, blocking the Balaurs’s attack, and in that gap, Heesoo hyung continued his run.

Reaching the relatively thin tip of the tail, he raised his greatsword high. Then, he brought it down.

“Karrrrrrrrrr!”

The greatsword pierced the Balaurs’s tail and embedded itself in the ground. Suddenly impaled by the greatsword, the Balaurs let out a scream and writhed its body.

Its body flew into the air, but because its tail was tied down, it was slammed back to the ground. Not missing the opportunity, Heesoo hyung clenched his fist.

When the fist, enhanced with the skill of monstrous strength, struck the Balaurs’s abdomen, it burst open with a “thwack,” and blood and bodily fluids gushed out. The Balaurs opened its mouth wide, raised its head, and tried to swallow Heesoo hyung, but it was no use.

Instead, Heesoo hyung grabbed the Balaurs’s jaw, used its chest as a foothold to leap into the air, and then twisted his body in mid-air. With the recoil, the jaw broke off with a “crack” sound.

“Kiaaaaaaaaah!”

As the Balaurs’s scream intensified, its legs shot out all at once like thorns. The Balaurs continuously flipped its body like a whirlwind, and those thorns spun like a saw blade, grazing Heesoo hyung.

Seeing blood spurt from Heesoo hyung’s body, I jumped up from my seat without realizing it.

I desperately wanted to run to his aid, but it was not yet a situation that could be called truly dangerous, so I gritted my teeth and endured. Behind me, Min Gongchan said leisurely.

“This is just the beginning, so wait patiently.”

I was surprised and turned to look at Min Gongchan.

“Just the beginning?”

Min Gongchan retorted as if it were obvious.

“Did you think you could kill a 3-black-star monster in one blow?”

“You bastard, you did this on purpose, did not you?”

“As I said, it cannot be helped if you want to get stronger. This is the fastest way.”

“No matter how important leveling up is…”

“Do not worry, he will not die. And even if he does, you can revive him, right?”

The last part sounded strangely sarcastic, so I glared at Min Gongchan. He made a spot for himself by pressing down the reeds with his foot as if he was going to watch the show and eat the rice cake. He plopped down there and pointed to where the Balaurs was going berserk, saying.

“Look there, he leveled up.”

I quickly turned my head and saw a mysterious light flickering there. It was surely a sign of a level up, but I could not be happy. Standing there, unable to do anything, I slowly began to realize what I had asked of Heesoo hyung.

Min Gongchan’s promise was roughly correct, and Heesoo hyung leveled up at a very fast pace for a high-level character. After defeating the Balaurs and reaching level 58, Heesoo hyung drank its blood and succeeded in strengthening his body.

The next day, after leaving the clearing and entering the forest, a black unicorn appeared. As it was an S-rank dungeon, it was a monster I had never seen before.

Even the common pure white unicorns were very difficult to deal with, but the hunting difficulty of a black unicorn was truly hell. Even though it was a 3-black-star class like the Balaurs, it was much harder to catch because it was half-elemental.

It took Heesoo hyung a full two days and one night to hunt the black unicorn. The forest, densely packed with pitch-black trees, had no paths, making it very difficult to move around.

Strange vines constantly wrapped around our bodies, and Cloudy, which summoned localized downpours, were rampant everywhere. In the bad weather, the black unicorn appeared and disappeared like a ghost, tormenting us so we could not even sleep, which was hellish.

If it were me, I would have given up long ago, gotten fed up, and left the forest, but Heesoo hyung was extremely patient. After being tormented by the black unicorn all day long, he set a trap. After waiting there motionlessly for nearly half a day, he succeeded in getting on the black unicorn’s back and putting a lasso on it.

That lasso was an item from the Otherworld Store that Min Gongchan had taken out of the Dimension Pocket; it could not be broken no matter what, and its length extended indefinitely. Since it could even cross dimensions, once the lasso was on, it became very easy to track the black unicorn’s trail.

In the end, Heesoo hyung defeated the black unicorn, and we obtained the pitch-black unicorn’s horn, hide, hooves, heart, and magic stone.

Most importantly, Heesoo hyung reached level 59. Min Gongchan boasted that level 60 was just around the corner and said.

“The black unicorn’s horn and magic stone will be useful at the Otherworld Store. They are items that are hard to get even at the Otherworld Store.”

“It seems like it would sell for a high price even if we do not go to the Otherworld Store.”

I looked at the black unicorn’s magic stone, which was emitting a mysterious glow, from various angles.

The magic stone, as black as obsidian, was the size of a fist and not very large, but it shone with all sorts of colors depending on the angle. There were many collectors in the world who gathered beautiful magic stones like jewels, so something like this would fetch whatever price was asked.

“Do not sell the hooves; process them and carry them on your body. They will raise your luck stat by an absurd amount.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Sometimes, in extreme situations, a single luck item can be the difference between life and death… Anyway, Seo Heesoo, when are you going to eat that?”

Heesoo hyung was holding the black unicorn’s heart and showing a look of displeasure. When he drank the Balaurs’s blood, he had a hard time holding back the rising nausea, and now, it seemed he could not bring himself to chew on a monster’s raw flesh.

Seeing him hesitate, Min Gongchan smiled crookedly.

“Later, you will not be able to eat it even if you want to. Seeing you being picky is a new sight.”

Heesoo hyung glanced at Min Gongchan and said.

“…It seems I will get used to eating monsters.”

“Of course you will get used to it. Later, you were at the point of slitting a living monster’s throat and drinking its blood.”

At Min Gongchan’s sarcastic words, I frowned. While Heesoo hyung sighed and cut off a corner of the heart, I poked Min Gongchan in the side and warned him.

“We do not need any useless TMI. Just say what is necessary, just what is necessary.”

“Oops, my apologies. I did not mean to. Seeing that bastard Seo Heesoo putting on a pretense is just disgusting.”

Seeing Min Gongchan sneering and grinning, I glared at him. Min Gongchan stopped acting crookedly, but it was clear that his feelings towards Heesoo hyung were not good.

It might be strange for him to like Heesoo hyung after seeing him destroy the world, but his attitude towards Heesoo hyung was more personal.

I thought about asking Min Gongchan why he disliked Heesoo hyung so much, but I decided against it.

Even though I was trusting the fact that Min Gongchan was a regressor and moving according to his information, I did not want to know the future. Since the future he knew was different from the future I wanted, it seemed there would be no good in knowing the details, and it could rather affect my current choices, so I did not pry into Min Gongchan’s past that was not a past.

Heesoo hyung barely finished eating the black unicorn’s heart. He wiped his blood-smeared mouth with a sallow complexion. Min Gongchan, who had been sitting unsteadily on a stump, got up when he saw that Heesoo hyung had finished his work.

“Well then, shall we get going!”

I checked how far we had come with the mapping information.

It was already the third day since we entered the Fog Swamp Dungeon. Thinking about the journey back, we would have to change direction from tomorrow. That means we had to reach the spot we were heading to for Heesoo hyung’s leveling up by tonight.

“How much further do we have to go?”

“We are almost there. When this forest ends, a valley will appear, and that is it.”

There were various types of spots in a dungeon. Boss monster spots where powerful monsters with high rewards lurked, farming spots where you could acquire rare and valuable mystic materials, hunting spots where you could catch a large number of monsters and secure supplies, grinding spots where you could safely accumulate experience through repetitive labor, and so on…

Our goal was a quick level-up, so we were heading to conquer a boss monster spot that Min Gongchan knew about. As he said, after a few more hours, the forest ended, and a valley, with the ground split on both sides like curtains, appeared between them.

“There it is.”

A reddish light was spreading from the bottom of the valley, as if lava were flowing there. As we got closer, it looked like a fire because the rocks that formed the valley were themselves glowing reddishly.

Since it was a rather ominous sight, I found myself constantly looking around as I walked. As I did so, I saw Heesoo hyung repeatedly rubbing the area around his solar plexus.
