The Only Woman in a Zombie Apocalypse Vol. 1 Chapter 1.1 - Isn't this a zombie story? (1)
After work, Dayoung returned home and visited a web novel site to soothe her tired mind and body.
Lately, it had become a comforting hobby for her. She wasn’t picky about genres, but the web novel she was currently obsessed with was a 19+ fantasy story featuring zombies and vampires.
She placed the tteokbokki she had bought on her way home on the table and began stabbing pieces with a fork while scrolling on her phone. Her bookmarked novel had been updated, and with excitement, she clicked into the story. She had guessed it was nearing its end, but the latest chapter was marked as the final one.
Anxious, she immediately opened the last chapter.
As she read through the happy ending with teary eyes, she let out a sigh. So, the greatest novel had finally concluded.
“Zombie World is done now. Ugh. Please, author, give us a side story. A side story!! You have to give us one!!”
「Zombie Natanan Sesang」 (A World Where Zombies Appeared), or ZOMNASE for short, was a trending novel online these days.
A 19+ story, it began with a zombie virus spreading worldwide, plunging society into despair. Survivors gradually banded together, overcoming hardships and adversities.
Many characters died, and new ones emerged. The main plot revolved around them finding an underground bunker, settling in, and building a new world—but it was also packed with numerous explicit scenes.
The dynamic, casual writing style was praised, but the realistic and immersive smut scenes received even more acclaim. The characters were so vividly and attractively written that readers often fantasized about sleeping with them.
In the hidden corners of SNS, posts even joked about how women readers were so obsessed with Zomnase that they could masturbate to it.
Of course, Dayoung was one of them.
Not to the point of masturbation, but imagining different characters every day was thrilling enough.
Just picture it, ‘Tall, muscular builds. Handsome or cute-faced characters.’
And the diverse personalities they showed during sex.
Even the villains were portrayed so attractively that every character in Zomnase was beloved. With so many major characters, popularity polls were even held—and of course, Dayoung voted diligently.
‘For Zomnase’s main character, Park Ian!’
“Are there really no men like this in real life? How would it feel to be held by a guy like this? Well, I guess that’s why it’s fantasy. So hot! Ugh.”
Dayoung browsed new releases, skimmed through popular novels, and even scanned steamy 19+ stories before staring at an empty plate with nothing left to stab with her fork.
“My favorite tteokbokki is gone, the novel’s over… Ugh. Is this a divine sign telling me to just sleep?”
After half-heartedly cleaning the table and washing up, she lay in bed watching videos until she got bored. The final chapter of Zomnase kept popping into her mind, so she opened the Zomnase page again.
The word ‘COMPLETED’ staring back at her didn’t sit right, no matter how many times she looked at it.
“What am I supposed to read now? Who’s going to relieve my stress? Who am I supposed to fantasize about now?! Ugh. Should I just reread from Chapter 1? It’s the weekend tomorrow anyway… Fine. Since it’s over, I’ll give it a proper reread!”
After some deliberation, Dayoung started reading from Chapter 1 again. Even on a reread, the novel was just as fun.
Maybe it was because, despite the long hiatus due to the author’s health issues, this was the story that had relieved her stress and comforted her for two whole years. She read all the way to Chapter 50 before finally falling asleep.
A strange noise began to echo in Dayoung’s ears as she slept soundly.
Tossing and turning at the unnatural, almost inhuman sound, she rubbed her eyes and woke up to the feeling of a hard floor beneath her.
“Who’s making so much noise this early in the morning? Ugh… Did I fall off the bed? My back hurts. Huh?! Wh-what? Where is this?”
When Dayoung opened her eyes, she found herself in an unfamiliar small room.
A sink and refrigerator came into view, and as she turned her head, she noticed a shattered window. The eerie sight sent a chill down her spine.
“What’s going on? Don’t tell me I’ve been kidnapped? This is insane. My phone—”
She checked her surroundings and her pockets, but her phone was nowhere to be found.
Frantically patting herself down, she froze when she realized what she was wearing—clothes she had never worn in her life. Skinny denim shorts so short they barely covered her, a cropped top that exposed her midriff, and a thin hooded zip-up.
“Why am I dressed like this? And why are my boobs so big…? What the hell is happening?”
She jumped to her feet and scanned the room. It looked like a company break room, but upon closer inspection, there were splatters of what appeared to be red blood everywhere.
A strange, guttural growling noise made her cautiously approach the broken window.
Peeking outside, she realized she was on the third floor of a small building. What she saw next made her blood run cold—zombies.
Drenched in blood, dragging their legs, and moaning unnaturally.
No, not just one. A whole horde of them, roaming the streets. Just like in the movies, some had missing limbs, broken legs, and grotesque wounds.
The sight was so horrifying that Dayoung quickly clamped a hand over her mouth and dropped to the floor.
“N-no way… Are those really zombies??? This must be a dream. It has to be a dream. Wait, is this a hidden camera prank? But I’m not famous or anything—why would anyone pull a prank on me? Ugh. I’m losing it. I’m seriously losing it… This is all because I fell asleep watching Zomnaverse. Kim Dayoung, wake up already!”
