The Only Woman in a Zombie Apocalypse Vol. 2 Chapter 47 - The Meaning of Yet Another Memory (1)

The group entered the barricade that they had set up around the village.

Their tense bodies relaxed slightly, and the expressions on their faces softened.

Taking turns pulling the cart, they had reached the halfway point when Dayoung raised her hand and clenched her fist.

Dodam and Hayun, who understood the signal, adjusted their grip on their guns and went on high alert, while the rest of the group halted in their tracks.

Dayoung observed the now-silent group and listened carefully.

A faint singing voice could be heard from somewhere—undoubtedly soft, but unmistakably the voice of a child.

“Do you hear it?”

“It’s a child, right?”

“Over there, it sounds like it’s coming from that direction.”

“Minshik oppa, Seojun—reload your guns and stay on guard with Jiseok oppa. Lieutenant and Dodam, come with me.”

“Dayoung, it’s too dangerous. Let me go instead.”

“No. If we have to shoot, I’ll do better than you.”

Ignoring Jiseok’s protests, Dayoung took Hayun and Dodam and climbed over the barricade.

The three moved cautiously toward the building, muffling their footsteps to avoid alerting any zombies.

They moved as if they had always been a team—Hayun took the lead, covering the right, Dodam guarded the left, and Dayoung entered last, watching the center.

Inside the desolate, crumbling building, the child’s singing voice echoed softly.

“We’ve been tricked.”

“Huh?”

Dayoung, who had been standing motionless inside the building, listening intently to the song, spat out the words abruptly.

At her remark, Hayun began listening more carefully to the singing.

“You’re right. Should we turn back?”

“What’s wrong?”

Dodam looked around in confusion. Though he wore a sleek black uniform, it was clear he was just an ordinary soldier.

If a child were really singing, their breathing and tone would shift slightly—but the song repeated with exact precision, identical to the previous rendition.

Even the intermittent background noise played at the same intervals.

“This recorder is on, Lieutenant. You can catch this, right? It seems like people are being lured in to do bad things this way.”

“Alright, I’ll head up to the second floor.”

At Dayoung’s words, Hayun adjusted her grip on her gun and headed toward the second-floor staircase.

Led by Hayun, the three slowly climbed the stairs.

Reaching the top, they found a hallway branching left and right, and the three split up, aiming their guns in both directions.

At that fork in the hallway, six men who had been hunting people had no choice but to freeze at the sight of the barrels pointed at them.

“Hands up.”

“You’re out of bullets, aren’t you? Where’d you even get those toy guns?!”

“Are you real soldiers? Wait… did you come to save us?”

Bang—

Hayun pulled the trigger, firing a shot into the ceiling. The deafening gunshot echoed through the building, and the men began lowering their weapons one by one.

“Please, save us!! You’re here to rescue us, right?”

“Sorry, but I’m just a stranded soldier too.”

“First, let’s turn off this song. Lead the way.”

At Dayoung’s words, the men hesitated, unmoving.

Only when Hayun and Dodam pressed their guns closer did they finally start moving. In a corner of the building was a small cassette tape player, from which a sorrowful children’s lullaby played.

Dayoung raised her gun and shattered the cassette.

Ack!

The men, terrified, huddled together. Dayoung watched them with a hollow gaze. In this world overrun by zombies, even the living were few—yet how many of them would dare enter this darkness to save a child?

“You lured people here to kill them?”

“…”

“I asked if you killed them.”

“We… We had no choice! We had to survive! We ran out of food, and we couldn’t leave the building! What else were we supposed to do?”

At the man’s words, Dayoung let out a deep sigh.

A world where even good people could turn evil. But even in such a world, there would still be those who remained good until the end. Dayoung had no desire to save those who had become wicked.

If Ian had been here, he might have tried to save even them—but Dayoung wasn’t like that.

Prioritizing her own life and those of her companions above all else, she coldly aimed her gun at them. Seeing this, Dodam and Hayun also turned their muzzles toward the men.

“I’ll let you go today. But if we ever cross paths again, I won’t spare your lives.”

“Yes!! Thank you! Thank you!”

The men hurried upstairs to gather their belongings, while Dayoung’s group exited the building. She didn’t know whether they would leave this place or not, but since she had given them a warning, she hoped they wouldn’t repeat such acts—at least not to other survivors.

“Noona, are you okay? We heard gunshots??”

“Yeah. There were some bad guys inside. No kids, though.”

“What? No kids?”

“Nope. It was just a recorded voice playing from a cassette.”

“Ugh. No matter how messed up the world is… how could anyone do something like that?”

“Let’s go back.”

The group pushed their carts and moved on.

Dayoung opened her eyes once more, grateful that the first companions she had met were people like them. She didn’t understand why she encountered more bad people than good.

Even in a world like this, she wanted to believe it was still worth living. But the world was overflowing with evil.

When Dayoung’s group returned to the mall, the waiting members greeted the newly arrived Dodam and Hayun.

However, some couldn’t help but eye Hayun warily—his muscular build and handsome face making them subtly uneasy.

“Noona, are you hurt anywhere?”

“Nope. We made it back safe and sound!”

Dayoung waited anxiously for their safe return, wondering just how worried they must have been.

One by one, she hugged them all. Seeing this, Jiwoo pouted and protested.

“Hey, that’s not fair! We’re the ones who worked hard, so why are you hugging them??”

“Huh?”

“Noona, that’s so mean… We scraped our hands pulling the cart all the way here!”

“Pfft. Fine. Come here. You worked hard too, Jiwoo.”

Dayoung also hugged each of the group members who had helped gather the weapons.

Hayun watched the scene with mild confusion but kept quiet, not wanting to ruin the good mood.

Dodam and Hayun introduced themselves to the group, ate lunch, and were finally able to take a hot shower after a long time.

Dohun waited for the two outside the bathhouse, chatting with Minho.

“From what I’ve seen, that cheeky Dodam doesn’t seem like the noona type, but Hayun hyung totally seems like he’d be into noona.”

“Why?”

“If you look at all the people noona’s slept with—first of all, they’re all good-looking. Ian, me, Jiseok hyung, and you, that’s four. The four most handsome, pretty, and cute guys in our group.”

“Isn’t that just a coincidence?”

“Nah. I just have a feeling.”

Dohun frowned as if discussing something deadly serious, making Minho burst into laughter.

“You just wanna believe that. But Hayun hyung is good-looking, I’ll give you that.”

“Right? I wish I were that manly-looking too…”

“Why? Dayoung said she likes your face because it’s pretty, and mine because it’s cute.”

“Really? Then I should take better care of my skin. For our noona. Pfft.”

When Dohun and Minho were excitedly finishing their conversation, the two of them stepped out of the dressing room.

The group’s eyes widened as they took in Hayun’s freshly washed appearance.

Free of grime and now glowing, Hayun looked even more handsome. If Ian was the most good-looking in the group with his clean-cut image, Hayun had a rugged, tough-guy style.

Pouting his lips, Dohun guided them to their room.

“You can use this side and this side for your room. By evening, the beds will be set up. Lucky you—you managed to snag the last beds. There aren’t any more left in the mall now. We should’ve stocked up on mattresses earlier.”

“Seriously?? I knew I was a man full of luck!!”

“Thanks for setting up a place for us to stay.”

“Nah. You’re living with us now, so this is the bare minimum. Anyway, let me fill you in on what you need to know while staying here. Follow me.”

Dohun led Dodam and Hayun down to the first-floor convenience store. When he handed them each an icy canned coffee, their eyes widened in surprise.

“Hot water was great, but cold coffee? I was just thinking about how much I wanted this in the heat.”

“We’re conserving electricity, so we’re only running one fridge in the convenience store. There’s not much left, but we kept it running for the vibe.”

At Dohun’s words, the two men glanced around the store.

The snacks were neatly arranged, but there wasn’t a single food ingredient left.

“Still, there’s a big supermarket inside this mall. So don’t hold back on the drinks—help yourselves. Here, take a seat. I’ll fill you in on the rules you’ll need to follow while living in the mall.”

The two sat down and focused on Dohun.

Though they’d both lived in groups before, every group had different rules to follow, so they had no choice but to pay close attention to avoid making mistakes.

“First, the basics—we need to make sure zombies can’t get inside here. Since the two of you are soldiers, you’ll probably be part of the scouting team. You’ll go around in all directions to gather food, clothes, and other supplies. Inside here, you can do whatever you want.”

“There’s a bar on the first basement level. Just keep in mind, unless it’s a group gathering, you’ll have to make your own snacks. And for clothes, like I mentioned earlier, there’s a dressing room on the second floor—feel free to wear whatever you find. The bathhouse opens at 4 PM. The hot tub can be used once a week.”

The two nodded along to Dohun’s words.

The rules weren’t as strict or difficult to follow as they’d expected. Maybe because the group was still young, the atmosphere was generally relaxed.

“And this next part is really important. You can’t just barge into Dayoung Noona’s room. Also, there’s a sex room in the second basement level—don’t go in there without permission either.”

“A sex room?”

“…??”

The mention of a sex room in the second basement widened the two men’s eyes in surprise.
