Dirty Sweet Baby Chapter 79
Fuck!
This was definitely a crazy thing to do.
Why did he say something so ridiculous? He should have just kept his mouth shut.
Heeheon clenched his jaw so hard it felt like his molars would shatter. He was so dizzy he felt like he was going to lose his mind.
As you could see, Baek Heeheon still had no idea what to do, or how much of himself he could reveal to Cha Moogyul. And yet, he had felt the impulse to just crash into him with everything he had, and he had also thought that trying to figure out the meaning of every little thing was pointless. He was just trying his best to squirm and do something, anything.
‘Is this right? Shit, is this the right thing to do?’
The answer to the question that arose from his struggling was, unfortunately, ‘no.’
Upon hearing the words that Heeheon had barely managed to squeeze out, prepared to lose his mind, Cha Moogyul immediately showed his displeasure.
“Ha! This is a new kind of trick.”
He reacted strongly, as if he had heard a nasty joke, no, an insult. He expressed his cold fury without holding back.
“So. What are you planning to do next. Are you trying to make some kind of request? ‘Please, just don’t throw me in the basement,’ something like that.”
His expression was frozen solid like a sheet of ice, and his voice was level. Although there was a fiercely churning emotion in his eyes, as expected, he seemed to be dismissing Heeheon’s words as just another failed, futile trick.
“If not that, then to let you contact your family home? You want to explain things to your mother? Right, there are a lot of things you could want from me, hyung.”
Could Cha Moogyul have felt this way too?
When he had laid bare his inner feelings to Heeheon, one by one, when Heeheon had reacted with complete disbelief, when he had constantly doubted, denied, and rejected him. Could Cha Moogyul have felt this bleak and miserable each of those times? In truth, he still couldn’t quite believe the nonsense that Cha Moogyul had fallen for Baek Heeheon, so was Cha Moogyul feeling the same way right now?
But Heeheon had nowhere left to retreat. It was a situation where he couldn’t even run away, let alone concede or compromise. The only thing left to do was to hold on. That was the only option given to Heeheon, and he couldn’t not take it.
“…So are you not going to do it?”
Heeheon’s reddish, chewed-on lips parted slightly, and the shyly curled, rose-pink tongue inside trembled.
“I’m saying I’m willing to, so are you not going to do it?”
“Hahaha.”
Cha Moogyul’s shoulders shook as he snickered and scoffed. Heeheon felt like his insides were being turned upside down and shattered, but he had no idea why Cha Moogyul was being like this.
“It’s pretty tempting, isn’t it? And fucking annoying too, right?”
His eyes seemed to gleam with a blue light. Just like that, he lazily scanned Heeheon from head to toe. The way his gaze shot through every nook and cranny, as if licking him clean, made him feel as if he were stark naked.
“Hyung, you want to fuck with me? Are you that desperate?”
It was only for an instant. In the blink of an eye, he shot out a hand, grabbed Heeheon by the collar, and growled fiercely.
“Then.”
The white shirt was pulled up as if it would tear, and his heels lifted slightly off the ground.
“Should we.”
For some reason, Heeheon felt like Cha Moogyul was testing him right now. To be precise, it seemed he was observing his reaction with the intention of judging his true intentions. He was scrutinizing Heeheon more overtly and obsessively than ever before, trying to see if his eyes were telling the truth or not.
“Huh?”
It felt like walking on a knife’s edge.
Heeheon managed to open his mouth with difficulty. And he rolled his stiffened tongue to squeeze out a reply.
One syllable.
All he had to do was utter one single syllable.
‘Yeah.’
It’s okay. I can do it.
I can do this much. Easily.
Right at the moment he was about to let out his voice.
Beep, beep, bee-beep!
A page came through.
The repeating alert tone instantly snapped the taut tension.
The system, having recognized the coordinates of the two, automatically brought up a screen on the armory’s pad.
A large warning sign and a screen dyed red. It was an emergency summons.
“…”
“…”
Cha Moogyul and Baek Heeheon froze in a similar fashion. Should this situation be described as dumbfounding? Or as exquisitely timed?
Either way, there was only one response Heeheon could take. He swallowed the answer he was about to spit out, turned his head, and picked up the pager attached to his waist. And with a bleak look in his eyes, he read the paged message.
[ Urgent! ]
LEVEL 4
Third Development District, Gate full-scale breach.
Outer perimeter wall penetrated.
Once he confirmed the contents, he could no longer afford to divert his attention elsewhere. It was a Level 4 emergency summons. A full-scale breach meant the gate had been completely opened, and that meant all the creatures inside had poured out.
And on top of that, the outer perimeter wall had been penetrated.
“The eastern bulkhead has collapsed.”
Heeheon hurriedly turned back to Cha Moogyul. His face was pale, as was fitting for the gravity of the situation.
“A swarm of creatures has invaded the general residential district!”
A Level 4 emergency summons.
This was a critical incident that even Heeheon was experiencing for the first time. Because under normal circumstances, there was no way the outer perimeter wall would collapse. There were Awoken guarding each bulkhead, and there were even defense-type Espers stationed there at all times, maintaining a protective barrier in shifts. For such an outer perimeter wall to be breached was nothing short of an astonishing event.
Cha Moogyul muttered with a sharp gaze, as if he would tear the pager to shreds.
“All personnel to assemble at headquarters…”
A verdant light shimmered from him.
Whether he was so agitated that he couldn’t control his ability, or because they were facing an emergency, a bluish-green ability radiated out from around him, drawing a steady waveform.
“Ha, busy saving the world.”
“Let’s go for now. Get ready to deploy immediately.”
Having come to his senses, Heeheon quickly turned, threw open the gun locker, took out his rifle, loaded it swiftly, and grabbed spare magazines, when Cha Moogyul grabbed the wrist of his busily moving hand.
“Your answer.”
“What?”
The energy Cha Moogyul was emitting pricked his skin stingingly. It was tingly, like static electricity. Heeheon tensed his forearm muscles.
This was not the time to be bickering with Cha Moogyul. Nor was it the time to be exchanging words unnecessary for the mission. With creatures having crossed into the general residential district, how could there be even a shred of leeway for that?
“The answer.”
In an emergency like this, what…
“I need to hear it.”
People are dying!
At that, Heeheon couldn’t possibly respond kindly. With a stern expression and sharp eyes, he rebuked him, practically shoving the loaded rifle into his arms as if hitting his shoulder.
“Hey, you punk. Get a grip.”
An answer, what was so important about that? Was Heeheon’s personal situation more important than the lives of civilians?
What had Baek Heeheon been struggling with and hesitating over so much?
“This isn’t the time. We’ll do it when we get back after the deployment is over.”
“…”
“You can fuck me as much as you want then. Let’s go.”
He could feel the blazing heat from far away.
The entire way approaching the Center grounds, he was so tense it felt like his throat would close up.
The forces about to be deployed lined up in perfect order and boarded the transport vehicles, and in the clear blue sky, transport helicopters and aircraft also rose up in lines. On the screen of his worn goggles, communications were constantly broadcasting the situation on the ground.
The fluttering flag of the New Government, the equipment and supplies being moved busily, the roar of engines, and the sharp, urgent commands being shouted all mixed together to create a grim reality. The eyes of the combat unit members were all serious, resolute, and also firm.
Screech.
The military vehicle Heeheon was riding in passed by the combat units in formation for departure and stopped in front of the Center’s main building. There was no time to delay at all.
Dressed in his combat uniform, Heeheon firmly gripped his rifle, opened the car door, got out, and climbed the stairs with quick steps. Cha Moogyul, also in a fully-armed combat uniform, walked beside Heeheon, taking the stairs two at a time with his large strides.
Baek Heeheon belonged to the administrative unit, not the combat unit, and Cha Moogyul was an Esper who had manifested less than a year ago, so they would not be deployed to the field immediately. The situation was different from the last emergency summons. At that time, a new gate had happened to open at their coordinates, so they were tasked with defending the site until combat unit members arrived as immediate reinforcements.
But now, conversely, their mission was to serve as standby forces to fill the void left by the large-scale deployment of combat unit members to the field. It was to protect the now empty and vulnerable Center from being compromised.
After scanning his ID and entering the main building, the inside was also rife with a tension that was bitingly cold. Even though artificial lights were brightly illuminating the building, it looked like a dark and desolate landscape. The faces of the members lining up for the elevator were all stiffly set, as if cast from the same mold.
That’s how much of an emergency it was.
The last time in history that the outer perimeter wall protecting the general residential district had been breached was about 40 years ago. Although there had been occasional unfortunate incidents where one or two creatures crossed the bulkhead, for a dangerous situation of this scale, a Level 4, to occur was nothing short of a major disaster.
