Prologue.
‘Let’s see.’
Arms crossed, I glanced at the three standing demurely—no, the three monsters.
Hmm, but is ‘Mari’ the right counter?
They talk and have intelligence, so it feels a bit disrespectful to call them that.
Anyway, as I looked them over, I flipped through the documents where I had meticulously recorded their details.
┌─────────────────────┐
▶Monster 1, Alex.
[About 4m tall with long arms and legs.]
└─────────────────────┘
Doesn’t seem very helpful right now.
Pass.
┌─────────────────────┐
▶Monster 2, Marina.
[A transparent slime whose insides are visible–leaves behind squishy pieces whenever it moves]
└─────────────────────┘
Too squishy. Pass.
┌─────────────────────┐
▶Monster 3, Parukan
[Body is humanoid, but its arms are sharply transformed into blade-like structures.]
└─────────────────────┘
‘Oh…’
As my gaze slowly traveled over the blade—no, the end of its arm—Monster #3 shivered as if it had been stripped bare.
That long, sharp tip.
You, pass!
“Mr. Parukan.”
“Y-yes? Head Maid? M-me?”
Parukan’s eyes widened in surprise when I pointed at him. With an expression asking if I really meant him, its sharp blade pointed at its own face.
Perhaps it was desperately hoping I would say I’d made a mistake.
‘Yeah, no. It’s you.’
I kept glancing at the tantalizing blade until the very end, then rolled up my sleeve.
“Yes, I need your help.”
Then, I swiftly grabbed Parukan’s arm as it hesitantly approached.
‘We don’t have time to chat leisurely!’
With my prey firmly in hand, I calmly called out to the other two.
“Alright, everyone, return to your posts now.”
Finally, Parukan seemed to give up, tightly closing its eyes.
The 4m monster and the slime monster hurriedly left to do the tasks I had instructed earlier.
I waited until they were completely out of sight, then pulled Parukan toward the window. I tugged its arm a little further and slid the sharp blade between the window frame.
The size was a perfect fit.
‘Yeah, I knew it would fit perfectly.’
I swiftly slid it along the gap between the frames.
The dust that had been lodged there for a long time came out perfectly stuck to the tip of the blade.
See? It’s thin and pointy, just perfect, right?
