The clockwork doll was tall enough to look almost 2 meters in height.

‘How far is it going?’

The doll ran and ran deep into the forest. The further it got from the trail where people’s footsteps reached, the closer it got to the abyss of the forest. Because it was a situation with many suspicious points, I followed while keeping as much distance as possible.

I flew at an altitude higher than the trees just in case there was a trap. Thinking about what happened in the passage last time, I couldn’t be relieved just because I was a ghost. As I continued to follow, I suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu. Only then did I realize that the place we were heading to was a very familiar place to me. A hidden place that drove me into a corner in the game. A place remembered for its extreme difficulty.

‘The name was… ‘Mansion of the Abyss’, right?’

With perfect timing, a shabby mansion falling apart like a haunted house appeared in the middle of the forest.

‘This damn…’

To think I came back to a messed up place like this on my own two feet. A curse naturally popped out. The clockwork doll entered through the open door and nodded its head as if telling me to follow. The arched doorway was gaping wide open as if to swallow me like a demon’s mouth. Seeing that, I absolutely couldn’t get my feet to move. Why should I take this risk just to save that one gluttonous guy?

This mansion was not a common haunted house you would see in the middle of an amusement park. You won’t see common horror elements used to scare people using monsters, ghosts, and all sorts of scary things here. The Mansion of the Abyss is a place where one can face their inner ‘trauma’. I played the game alternating between the four survivors, but the situations unfolding in the mansion were different for each.

When playing as Evan, Basileon appeared. For Lilith, it was the younger sister she lost in an accidental death when she was young. For Mary, it was the head maid who had cleverly killed people. Lastly, for Havel, his own form on the verge of starvation due to lack of food materialized. So, it was obvious what would happen if I entered this place. Of course, there is a possibility that Evien’s trauma might come out instead of my past. However…

A place where one can penetrate deep into the mental world and face inner trauma.

It was the text I saw when I barely cleared it after dying countless times in the Mansion of the Abyss. Recalling this text, there was a high possibility that the mental world of ‘me’, who possessed Evien’s soul, would materialize as trauma.

‘….’

Without realizing it, my body was trembling in fear. The clockwork doll extended its arm out from the entrance and wiggled its finger. It probably means to come in. But why on earth? Was Mary mind-controlled by the evil god? Otherwise, she wouldn’t do something like this. While I was gulping nervously.

“Eve.”

A voice calling me sorrowfully was heard in my ear. It was vivid as if it was right next to me.

“…Basileon?”

But even as I looked around, I couldn’t find Basileon.

‘There’s no way.’

Have I been agonizing over it for so long that I’m hearing auditory hallucinations now. I couldn’t drag this out any longer. Because I couldn’t turn back because of some trauma after barely coming this far. Being held back by such a past was even more infuriating.

‘…Let’s go.’

It was a light evil spirit’s body, but at this moment, it was very heavy. I barely mustered my strength to move my body and fly. And squeezed my eyes shut, and entered the entrance of the mansion opening its mouth as if to swallow me.

*   *   *

Basileon was watching the entire process of Evien entering the Mansion of the Abyss.

“Eve!”

Carus Ravenwood in the illusion. That is, the evil god stopped Basileon from opening his mouth.

“Mmph… mmph!”

“Be quiet. I’m watching an entertaining spectacle for the first time in a while, and your voice is interfering.”

Thud!

Basileon was thrown into the corner with his whole body bound. Carus approached him. He personally swept Basileon’s hair back, completely exposing his left eye. When a sensitive part was touched, Basileon was completely enraged and panted heavily.

“…You should have walked around with your eye exposed from the start? It’s a waste to hide half of your handsome face.”

The evil god, taking the form of Carus, looked at Basileon as if looking down on him. It was an intensely intentional action. The form of his father, who routinely abused him when he was young, was in front of Basileon’s eyes. That eye. With that shudder-inducing red eye unique to the Ravenwood family, his father would glare at him. Whenever he met that eye and gaze, he felt as if his left eye was being gouged out.

“….”

Basileon closed his eyes to control his emotions. All the terrible things he had experienced in his unhappy life flashed before his eyes like a kaleidoscope. And the fact that he had killed many people with his own hands. The faces of the sacrificed survivors swept past his eyes like a panorama. The final destination was Evien. Before he knew it, something moist flowed down his cheek.

“…Are you crying?”

While Basileon was crying, Evien had already entered deep into the Mansion of the Abyss. And her trauma began to materialize and appear.

“Are you going to stay like that? Your Eve will soon face her trauma.”

At those words, Basileon flashed open the eyes he had closed to check Evien’s condition. The evil god was still projecting Evien’s image. The sight Basileon saw with his eyes open was dark and desolate. Evien was driven into a corner by illusions of black shapes.

“Hey, you XXXX. XXX. XXX.”

And they spewed out humiliating insults that one wouldn’t dare speak. Not only curses, but they poured out all sorts of curses and distressing words. Evien trembled and barely endured those words and actions. At the end of the insults, there were threats. They didn’t inflict physical violence such as harming her body. The reason was to not leave evidence.

A life of being bullied by the majority. Who on earth did such things to her. He was angry. Resentment boiled up inside him. Watching the person he loved go through a humiliating experience with a clear mind was very difficult. Basileon wanted to run over right now and tear the black shapes to shreds. But wasn’t it impossible?

He hadn’t been able to wake up from his sleep for a very long time. It was because the mental tension had unraveled after coming to his sister’s room, making him tied to the past he missed. Because of that, he was trapped in an illusion, caught by the evil god, and unable to escape.

Even while Basileon was excited and trying to break free from his bonds, Evien’s trauma continued. What he realized after watching every scene was that her world seemed far removed from this world. A way of speaking or words he couldn’t understand at all. The systems and rules. The structure of the buildings or the scenery seen around.

‘Such scenery definitely cannot be seen anywhere in this country.’

Everything was confusing. It seemed far from what the young lady of the Count Montrose family would experience. Then, something suddenly came to Basileon’s mind. The thought that she seemed like someone from another world crossed his mind.

“What if, you know. Even if I were a star floating in the sky over there. A heterogeneous being who came from there, do you think you would still feel that way?”

“…!”

Basileon awkwardly moved while lying down as if he had realized something. As he moved with intention, the bindings were released by that power.

“Wait, you.”

Carus showed a displeased look and stared at him. A strange light flashed in the eyes of Basileon, who had freed himself and stood tall before he knew it. It was a look much different from earlier.

“…I hope I never have to see you in that form again. It will have no effect on me anymore.”

Basileon spoke in a dry voice. Meanwhile, a single teardrop of his fell quietly to the ground.

Crack—.

As the tear touched the ground, the background began to crack. The illusion was shattering into pieces.

“W-wait!”

The flustered voice of the evil god echoed like a melody. The illusion broke sharply, shattering into pieces like glass.
