As Giju Wishes Chapter 1.10
He spoke abruptly, as if picking a fight, asking who it was.
―It’s me, Giju.
Choi Geon, who had been striding down the hallway as if to go beat someone up, stopped dead in his tracks.
“Hey! Why did you call so late!”
Choi Geon had been waiting for Giju all week. After about three days, he began to suspect that the demonic old hag had told him to ditch him because he was so shady. So he even waited in that alley. Of course, he couldn’t see a single strand of hair.
―It’s just that it was hard to find an auspicious day… I’m not a shaman, so I don’t know much about that stuff. Did you get hit with a lot of water?
It had been days of being hit with water in truly diverse ways.
“I almost fucking drowned to death, seriously.”
―Oh, if it gets worse, you could drown. But since you’re still okay, it doesn’t seem that serious. Don’t worry too much.
“…Hey!”
At the word ‘drown’, Choi Geon yelled. If he were in front of him, he would have punched him.
―I’ll tell you the auspicious day, Geon-ah.
For a moment, at the word ‘Geon-ah,’ Choi Geon’s expression turned strange. It was the first time a male peer, other than his family, had called him by his name without the surname. If Song Jiseop or his other friends had called him Geon-ie, he would have thrown up on the spot.
A subtle and ambiguous tinge was added to his angry face. Choi Geon felt an itch and scratched his head vigorously. Did some damn mosquito suck on his scalp or something.
“When is the auspicious day.”
―It’s today!
“What?”
―I told you too late, right? I’m sorry. Go fishing right now, quickly.
Choi Geon, who had been looking up at the ceiling for a moment, grabbed his hair with the hand that had been scratching his head.
“Ha… Today, you say today. Hey, do you think I’m a fisherman or something…? I just go fishing the moment you tell me to!”
―But today is really the best auspicious day. I looked it up, and they have dawn fishing too.
Giju added that since sincerity in catching a great fish was the priority, even the dawn hours were counted as an auspicious day these days.
“If I go and drown in the water, I’ll be on your shoulder for the rest of my life.”
At Giju’s kind words about dawn fishing, Choi Geon said through gritted teeth.
―You have to catch a great fish. You know what a great fish is, right? A big one! A great fish!
“I know!!!”
Choi Geon shouted loud enough for the entire hallway to echo and mashed the end call button as if to break the screen. Then, his eyes flipped, and without even grabbing his bag, he left the school.

Splash- Splash-
Rough waves continuously crashed against the bow of the boat. Choi Geon, four hours into sea fishing, was completely drenched in saltwater. After leaving school, he immediately took a taxi to the nearest pier. Half-brainwashed by Giju about the great fish, his mind was filled with nothing but the single-minded determination to catch one.
Now, all that was left was the stubbornness and fighting spirit of ‘let’s see who wins, you or me’. He was already on the verge of losing his mind from that damn water splashing. Even if he were told to chew up and eat a fish raw, Choi Geon would have done it.
Splash-
The waves crashed over the boat once again, and Choi Geon’s face was hit with seawater. Despite that, he didn’t move, his eyes bloodshot as he gripped the fishing rod. He hadn’t caught a single fish in four hours.
“Pull it up, pull it up!”
Next to him, they were busy pulling up the net. This fishing boat was, quite literally, a boat for catching fish. Reservations were a must for boat fishing, but Choi Geon, who had come without any, just offered to pay extra to be let on. It was a shabby, old boat, but he wasn’t in a position to be picky right now. If he could just catch that damned great fish, he would roll in a field of shit.
Tap, tap.
Sittu, a foreign worker who had been pulling up the net for a while, tapped Choi Geon.
“You should help, what are you doing.”
Sittu thought Choi Geon was a new worker and had been giving him looks for a while. The sight of him fishing without catching a single fish seemed to displease him greatly.
“Do that, that.”
When Sittu tapped him again, speaking in broken Korean, a vein popped on Choi Geon’s forehead.
“Don’t touch me.”
Choi Geon said menacingly as he pulled on the fishing rod he was concentrating on. Finally, a signal came.
“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go.”
The weight was heavy; it had to be a great fish. Choi Geon’s eyes glazed over as he placed one foot on the edge of the hull. Then he forcefully reeled in the fishing rod. He had no technique or skill, having learned to fish for only five minutes, but he pushed through with sheer momentum.
“You’re dead!!”
After a long struggle, Choi Geon finally lifted the fishing rod.
“Not dead, pahaha!”
At the same time, Sittu, who was next to him, clutched his stomach and laughed. The fishing hook was as empty as if it had all been a dream.
“You have no talent. You have no luck.”
Sittu said firmly to Choi Geon, who hadn’t even caught a single fry.
“Son of a Sitt-bitch.”
For a moment, Choi Geon felt as if Sittu were Shin Giju’s henchman and cursed without thinking. Feeling like Shin Giju could be anywhere in the world, Choi Geon whipped his head around, wary of his surroundings, and then looked at Sittu with sunken eyes.
“Stop hovering around annoyingly and get lost.”
“You should just do that too. You have no luck.”
Sittu pointed to the net. Just then, the captain, who was taking a short break after lowering the net, approached the unlucky Choi Geon.
“Hmmm, this is strange. This is a prime spot, why can’t you catch anything. Our net is having a great haul right now.”
Just as he said, the deck was currently overflowing with fish that had been caught in the net. Choi Geon’s stomach churned, and he wanted to smash the fishing rod.
“It’s getting pretty dark now, so when we pull up the net, if there’s a great fish in there, I’ll count it as you having caught it.”
The captain, who hadn’t checked his ID and thought Choi Geon was an adult, patted his shoulder encouragingly. Sittu and Ali followed, patting his shoulder in turn. As he received their encouragement, Choi Geon wondered if the ghost on his shoulder would count that net as a sincere effort.
‘Sincerity is literally sincerity and effort. Show the effort of you catching it yourself.’
Effort my ass, hadn’t he already shown enough with four hours of fishing. Then, as if he had finally made a decision, Choi Geon put down the fishing rod and approached the net with a much more resolute expression.
“Be careful not to get your feet tangled in the net.”
“Just give me that.”
Choi Geon took the net. Soon, the machine started running, and they began to pull the net in. With his exceptional athletic ability, Choi Geon skillfully organized the net and pulled the flowing net with all his might. Choi Geon, who was much stronger than the foreign workers, was doing the work of two people by himself.
“Hurry up and grab them!”
Choi Geon yelled at Sittu, who was much slower than him, as if for revenge. At the same time, he gritted his teeth and searched for a great fish with fire in his eyes. After pulling up the net for a while, he saw something large flapping vigorously in the net that was just being pulled up from the sea. Barely caught in the net, it was the great fish he had been looking for. Having lost his senses, Choi Geon threw himself towards the great fish that was about to escape the net and reached out his hand.
“Where do you think you’re going, you bastard!!”
“Hey!!”
The captain next to him suddenly grabbed Choi Geon’s waist as he did something dangerous.
“What are you doing!”
Crazy for the great fish, Choi Geon couldn’t hear the captain’s words. He dug his short fingernails between the scales of the slippery great fish’s body and lifted its torso. Then he threw it onto the deck.
Flap, flap-!
At the size of the huge sea bass, the captain, Sittu, and Ali stared with their jaws dropped. Just by looking, it seemed to be over a meter long. The sea bass, which was resisting fiercely, flopped around all over the deck. Fearing that the great fish would flop back into the sea, Choi Geon got on top of the sea bass to hold it down.
