As Giju Wishes Chapter 1.7

The male student, thoroughly intimidated, nodded his head quickly. Satisfied with his reaction, Choi Geon turned around, put on his helmet, and got on his expensive-looking bike. He even started whistling at the thought of beating the truth out of him tomorrow until he was dust. He would uncover exactly why he had such bad luck and report it to ‘We Want to Know That Day’.

Shin Giju was a bit strange. He looked perfectly normal, but he was a bit strange.

His deskmate, Jeong Gitae, would often get the chills when Giju’s dark eyes stared intently at him. Of course, it could just be a stereotype, but as if the whole class, no, the entire student body, felt it too, no one ever spoke to Shin Giju.

The decisive incident happened about a month into their sophomore year. The bully who had been tormenting Shin Giju got into a car accident that very day. Before the accident, Shin Giju had said.

‘This is all karma. You might get into an accident.’

It was laughable how everyone had scoffed at his bizarre words, only for the accident to happen that same day. Giju, who was already notorious for being possessed by a ghost because he was always right on the money with his predictions, telling people to be careful of this and that like a shaman, became the subject of widespread rumors throughout the entire school after that, becoming an outcast everyone avoided.

However, Jeong Gitae, who had been his semi-forced deskmate since freshman year, knew that while Shin Giju was definitely strange, he wasn’t a bad kid. If you kept watching him, he wasn’t scary, but rather, you could say he was spiritually gifted and pure. The other kids avoided Shin Giju because they didn’t know him.

Moreover, out of all these students, only Shin Giju treated Jeong Gitae, who had a burn scar on his face, without any prejudice, and had helped him several times with his incomprehensible mysteriousness.

For example, when he took a detour on his way home as Shin Giju had told him, he didn’t run into the group that bullied him. This had happened quite a few times. Others called Shin Giju possessed or mentally ill, but if you thought about it carefully, everything Shin Giju said was helpful. It was those kids who didn’t listen to him and ignored him, claiming he was different from them.

“Hey, what are you doing?”

Kim Minsu approached Giju, who was staring at the sky out the window, and tapped his shoulder as he spoke. After the one bully got into a car accident, the only person who still bothered Giju was Kim Minsu.

Kim Minsu didn’t believe in such nonsensical things as ghosts or whatever. He just thought the guy had been unlucky that day and got into a car accident. Did it even make sense to get into a car accident just for bothering Shin Giju a little?

As if to refute that nonsense, he had been picking on Giju more often lately.

“This bastard’s looking at the sky again.”

Kim Minsu grabbed the chin of Giju, who was ignoring him, and forced him to turn his head.

“Let go.”

“Don’t want to. Why do you always ignore your friend?”

“Why are you my friend. Tsk, have some conscience….”

Feeling provoked by Giju who not only ignored him but also said he wasn’t his friend, Kim Minsu raised his hand to hit him. At that, Giju glared intently at Kim Minsu. Kim Minsu’s face turned slightly red at the sight of the clean and pure face.

“I told you, if you act like that, you’ll get it all back when you’re older.”

“He’s spouting nonsense again.”

“Whether it’s nonsense or not, you can tell me in 20 years when you’re older. If you’re living well, I’ll eat my hat, ah!”

Kim Minsu pulled Giju’s hair, who only chose words that would get on people’s nerves.

“So noisy, so noisy.”

Just then, a classmate hesitantly approached Giju’s side.

“Gi, Giju. Someone’s asking for you.”

Giju’s gaze followed the direction of the pointed finger. Someone he had never seen before was standing outside the door. Giju got up from his seat and left the classroom.

“You were looking for me?”

“You’re Shin Giju, right…?”

“Yeah.”

The person who called Giju scratched his head and said.

“Someone was looking for you yesterday. A kid from Hyunseong High. He said to come to the alley by 5 o’clock today…?”

At the mention of the alley, Giju instantly knew who was looking for him. It was the unlucky kid carrying a ghost. It had been on his mind anyway, so this was good.

“Ah, thanks for letting me know.”

Giju thanked the student with glasses and went back into the classroom. Kim Minsu naturally stuck to his side.

“Hey, you stay after school.”

“I have plans.”

At the refusal without even a moment’s thought, Kim Minsu frowned and grabbed Giju’s shoulder forcefully.

“What plans?”

“Not telling you. Let go of this.”

Without even looking at Kim Minsu, Giju quickly brushed off the hand on his shoulder and sat down. At that, Kim Minsu started to get pissed off.

Screech-

Just then, the classroom door opened and the homeroom teacher came in. Kim Minsu, who was about to say something to Giju, clenched his teeth and forced himself to sit down. He wanted to smack that head that always ignored him. He wasn’t scared of him, and he wouldn’t even make eye contact.

At that detached feeling, Kim Minsu bit his lips. It seemed like it was time to stop holding back. Today was the day he would show him who’s boss and make him crawl.

Kim Minsu quietly persuaded his friends to secretly follow Giju and scare him a little. At the words of Kim Minsu, who was the leader of this class, the group of delinquents he hung out with, enticed by the amusement of violence, quickly agreed and nodded their heads.

“Stop sleeping so much and get going now.”

The homeroom teacher, worn out with fatigue, said perfunctorily and left the classroom. At the same time, as if they had been waiting, the kids in the class stampeded out of the room like animals. Giju calmly slung his backpack over his shoulder and slowly started his way home from school.

“Bye, Gitae.”

“See you tomorrow.”

In front of the main gate, Giju waved goodbye to Jeong Gitae, whose path diverged from his, and started walking towards the alley. And behind him, Kim Minsu and his group secretly followed. Giju, not even noticing he was being followed, walked with a light step, thoroughly enjoying the sight of wildflowers, insects, and cats. Kim Minsu watched Giju like he was a madman.

“Isn’t he really possessed by a ghost?”

Park Taesik, Kim Minsu’s lackey, asked sincerely as he watched Giju suddenly start hopping around trying to catch a cicada. It was because he was secretly afraid of Giju.

“You cowards, there’s no such thing. He’s just….”

Kim Minsu made a peculiar expression.

“He only likes what he’s interested in. The mean bastard.”

Kim Minsu, with a face like he’d been slapped by Giju, clenched his fists. He wanted to instill fear in Giju. That way, he could make him his lackey and take him around everywhere after school.

“Hey, let’s go.”

Kim Minsu was planning to ambush Giju when they reached a suitable alley. From the looks of it, his claim of having plans was probably all a lie. There was no way that thing had any friends.

Chirp-chirp-

Giju caught a cicada that seemed like it would fall at any moment with one of its legs missing and placed it on a flat tree, then entered the alley earlier than usual. Taking a small watch out of his pocket, Giju checked the time. As expected, it wasn’t 5 o’clock yet.

The scorching sun was hot, so Giju went deeper into the alley and squatted down in the shade at the bottom of a wall. Then, he started to tell his fortune by picking a wildflower next to him to see if that kid had gotten rid of the evil water spirit.

“He got rid of it, he didn’t. He got rid of it, he didn’t….”

The petals fell to the ground one by one.

“He got rid of it, he didn’t, he got rid of it,”

And just when there was one petal left, suddenly about six feet appeared in front of his eyes.

“Is that your plan?”

Before Giju could even lift his head, Kim Minsu kicked Giju’s hand with the top of his foot. At that, the flower with one petal left fell to the ground.

“What are you doing?”

Giju, who had been squatting, stood up and asked with a genuinely curious face. He was curious as to why they were in front of him, and why they were interrupting his fortune-telling.

“What do you mean, what am I doing. I followed you, you bastard.”

“Why did you follow me?”

When Giju asked back as if displeased, Kim Minsu’s mood soured even more.

“To teach you a lesson.”

“Why teach me a lesson.”

“Because the way you carry yourself is fucking annoying.”

Park Taesik said, taking a step forward.

“You’re unluckier than I am. That’s for real.”

Giju truly thought that Park Taesik, standing before him, was unluckier than he was. That was because Park Taesik had a history of bullying his friends and would receive his karma later. In comparison, he hadn’t bullied anyone.

“You little shit, I followed you because you go around talking like that.”

“What about me. You don’t exactly talk very well yourself. I talk better than yo- ah!”

Park Taesik smacked Giju on the head.

“This is your problem. You choose to do things that’ll get you hit!”

“You guys are the ones who choose to do things that’ll get you hit more than I d- ah!”

Park Taesik hit Giju, who was talking back to him, on the head one more time.

“I told you that if you do that, you’ll become unluc- ah!”

Giju got hit again.

“If you don’t want to get hit, greet me properly from tomorrow and do what I tell you, huh?”

Kim Minsu, who had been watching all along, said as he pulled his hair.

“No.”

Giju said, staring straight at him.

“Why not?”

At that, Kim Minsu grabbed him by the collar and asked.

“Because I don’t want to. You’re the one who shouldn’t look at me or talk to me from tomorrow.”

At Giju’s words, which were more resolute than usual, Kim Minsu, who was furious to the point of his anger reaching the top of his head, impulsively raised his hand. And he hit him hard on the head.

Thwack-!

Was it because he hit him too hard? As he let go of his collar, Giju fell sideways and hit his head on a telephone pole.
