As Giju Wishes Chapter 6.9
“Did you ask everything? How is it? I have not asked everyone yet.”
“Hey, why are you interrogating people like some cult member, ugh… Forget it, I found out, so stop asking now.”
“…You found her?”
Giju’s eyes widened as if he could not believe it, and he asked again.
“Yes.”
“My grandmother’s location?”
“Yes.”
“Really?”
“Yes!!”
Giju, momentarily speechless, stared blankly at Choi Geon, then abruptly hugged his neck.
“Wow, Geon!”
Overwhelmed with joy, Giju freely enjoyed this small sense of accomplishment. Only Choi Geon was embarrassed and could not enjoy it.
“Hey, let go of me….”
“How did you find her?”
Giju pulled away and asked.
“I met the novice monks.”
Even he thought that coaxing the novice monks was a very good thing to do.
“You met the novice monks? But how did you find out?”
“I am the one who subdued the evil spirit of Dobongsan. Do you think I could not find something like this?”
“Wow, your luck was really good this time, Geon.”
Giju genuinely admired Choi Geon and looked at him anew.
“So where did they say Grandmother is?”
Sparkling eyes asked the question. Choi Geon looked at those eyes mixed with anticipation and longing for a moment, then opened his mouth.
“They said she went to Manyeonsa.”
“Manyeonsa?”
“It is a temple on Manyeonsan.”
“Oh, oh, she went there….”
Unlike the marveling Giju, Choi Geon did not look so pleased. It was because he had not told him everything. In fact, when the hospital was mentioned, he had a hunch of doubt. A suspicion that the grandmother Shin Giju was looking for had gone to that cousin. He still largely felt it was a coincidence, but he did not know for sure.
Therefore, the decision was not difficult and was quick. Choi Geon decided to omit the hospital. The hospital was not for Shin Giju, who cried even at the word folding screen. He would think his grandmother had gone to work, and if he were to find out that she had gone to his cousin instead, he might cry uncontrollably and faint. Or summon a horde of ghosts.
“Should we go right away, Geon?”
Giju, full of enthusiasm even though they did not yet know the location, asked.
“Do not even think about it. It is super far. Just sleep and go tomorrow.”
Choi Geon decided to go to the hospital first while Giju was sleeping to confirm the grandmother’s true situation. After seeing it, a conclusion would be reached.
“Let us find accommodation first.”
“Yes. You must be tired from kneeling all day.”
“I am going to pass out when I get there, so go to bed early tonight.”
Manyeonsa was just a lure. If he saw even one suspicious thing from that shaman, Choi Geon decided to break this curse his own way. He had not a single thought of selling out Shin Giju.
Choi Geon, who booked a taxi on his phone, began to walk down the parking lot with Giju.
That night, Choi Geon, wearing a hat pulled low, confirmed that Giju was asleep. It looked like he was deeply asleep, probably tired from moving all day. He already knew from Dobongsan that Giju did not open his eyes once he fell asleep.
Swoosh—
Choi Geon very quietly slipped out of the accommodation. After passing the elevator and coming out to the lobby, he saw a taxi waiting. Choi Geon glanced back once, got into the taxi, and immediately headed toward Yeongsan Hospital.
Choi Geon’s face, leaning his head against the window, was not filled with tension but with worry about how he would corner her. Since it was a sudden impulse, he should have made some plan, but he felt like he would flare up just by seeing the face of that grandmother, the one with the cousin.
If she was truly sick and hospitalized alone, like in a drama, he would be a bastard, but he would have no regrets. It was better for him to figure out if it was crap or bean paste first. Because a crying Shin Giju was really tiresome.
Choi Geon, whose brows furrowed unknowingly, recalled Giju crying uncontrollably. Then, he closed his eyes as if chasing away an evil spirit. To bother him even while sleeping, he was truly the descendant of a ghost.
As he thought about his future plans with his eyes closed, he soon heard the taxi driver’s voice.
“We have arrived.”
What Choi Geon saw when he opened his eyes was a larger hospital than he expected. Choi Geon paid and got out of the taxi, looking up at the hospital. Since it was a general hospital, it was quite large. It was renowned for its specialty in severe pediatric cases, and it showed.
After a brief look, Choi Geon entered the hospital without hesitation and looked around. Since it was late at night, there were definitely few people in the lobby. The problem now was finding the shaman in this large hospital. If she was not there, he had to salvage something similar.
Choi Geon looked at the reception desk right in front of him. Knowing that they would not tell him anything anyway because of personal information, he gave up and turned his attention elsewhere, and the information desk caught his eye. Specifically, the floor guide next to it. Choi Geon approached and stared at the screen as if analyzing it, then turned his head to the information desk employee.
“I am not sure, but do patients in a coma stay in the intensive care unit?”
Choi Geon deliberately asked a random question. This was because it could look suspicious otherwise.
“No, it depends on the patient’s condition. Even if they are in the intensive care unit, they are moved to a general ward if they do not wake up for a long time.”
“Ah, I see. My acquaintance is sick.”
Since he also knew the cousin through Shin Giju, it was not exactly a lie.
“Do you have private rooms here too?”
“All single rooms are on the 6th floor of the main building.”
It was good news that they were grouped together.
“Yes, thank you.”
Choi Geon left the information desk with a satisfied expression and immediately headed for the elevator. The quickly ascending elevator soon arrived on the 6th floor. The door slowly opened, revealing an empty hallway. Choi Geon gazed at the quiet hallway, then quietly moved his feet forward.
Step— Step—
With each private room he passed, he checked the nameplate next to the door. Choi Geon was almost certain that someone, whether it was the cousin or the shaman, was hospitalized here. The best shaman in the Republic of Korea could not possibly be poor. Shaman Cheon earned so much money, so would a shaman who charged a million won for a single talisman not be able to afford a private room?
As he was looking at the nameplates with a tension that he normally would not have, he stopped when he reached the end of the hallway, seeing a name that made him pause.
[Park Jaeyoung]
‘Wait, what was that cousin’s name.’
‘Park Jaeyoung.’
‘His surname is Park.’
The novice monk’s words were correct. Shin Giju’s grandmother had indeed come to see another grandson.
“Ha….”
A heavy and futile sigh escaped his lips. Deep down, he had hoped the name would be Park Shinja. Or a name he did not know. It would have been better if she were just a passing visitor. Then there would still be a reason to meet her.
Choi Geon shifted his sunken gaze from the nameplate and obliquely looked at the glass window of the closed door. Inside the softly lit hospital room, he saw a woman on the phone, looking out the window. And on the bed next to her, someone was lying down, along with a talisman attached to the wall.
The face illuminated by the light looked as young as Shin Giju’s. It was also as pale as death. The woman on the phone would be the mother of the young man, which is to say, another aunt of Shin Giju. It was as he had heard and as he had expected. However, the heterogeneous feeling he felt while watching them was unexpected. They did not resemble Shin Giju at all. The woman living in the shaman’s house definitely resembled them, but Shin Giju did not.
Choi Geon had intentionally not asked about Giju’s family background until now. It was more accurate to say he pretended not to know. Anyone who was not an idiot could have guessed. The fact that Shin Giju’s parents were not in the Republic of Korea, at least.
In fact, he wanted to go inside right now and ask, What about Shin Giju? Why do you neglect him like that?
The questions he had suppressed piled up and felt like a dam about to burst. However, with the frustration of not being able to interfere recklessly even though he wanted to know, Choi Geon clenched his fists and stared at the inside of the hospital room for a long time, hiding.
