The noise made by cars, and a forest of buildings that blocked the view.

This was my mental world.

The nostalgia I had left behind—or perhaps the nostalgia that had abandoned me.
Something I could never reach again.

Fully spread out as it overlapped with Dad’s mental world, my own mental world was a fast, chaotic modern city.

Unlike reality, there were no people here—only afterimages that passed by like shadows.

“Dad, this is the scenery of the world I lived in. It’s completely different from this place, right?”

A manifestation of a landscape where everything was different from this world.

Thump.

Even though it was only a replica of a slice of a modern city, manifested through me as a medium, perhaps because it was a “scene that does not exist in this world,” an enormous amount of divinity was drained away.

“This is…….”

Young Valer looked around in shock.

Thump
Thump

I could feel my body struggling, unable to endure the divinity pouring out of me.

But I couldn’t stop.

I had to pull Dad’s consciousness—wandering somewhere deep in his subconscious, far beyond my easy reach—back here.

“At the time, I thought I’d lived for too long and that everything was boring, but thinking about it now, I didn’t live that long. I died before I even became an adult. Hm… yeah. I guess I actually lived longer after reincarnating.”

Still, so many parts of who I am were learned and received in that world.

“There, this place was just a fictional novel—nothing more than people’s imagination.”

And yet people read that story, loved it sincerely, and wished for the characters’ happiness.

“Dad wasn’t the main character, though.”

A faint laugh slipped out.

“Well, neither was I.”

Even now, after taking up 4■.■% of the ‘main character share,’ strictly speaking, I was still just an extra.

“If we were the main characters, would all of this have been easier?”

Would Dad saving me, and me saving Dad, have been simpler and easier?

Lost in those thoughts, I covered my mouth as a coughing fit burst out—and then looked down at my hand, soaked in blood.

Now the divinity was trying to inflate my body like a swollen balloon and burst it.

Even so, I endured the pain and smiled.

I was used to pain.

That was when—

“Relics…….”

The twelve relics I had brought with me but forgotten—relics that had been useless when entering the crystal—escaped from my bag. Wrapped in a faint gray light, they resonated with me.

As if trying to help me.

Each relic held the authority of a different god, but seeing them all react at once was a first.

Wooooong—

Wung—

Whiiing—

Each relic made a different sound as it supported me, as if they had been influenced by me.

“This is my secret, Dad.”

Smiling at the scene, I looked straight into Dad’s amethyst eyes, which were still captivating even in his younger form.

Even in a situation like this, I still didn’t have any grand beliefs.

No solemn mission, either.

Because what I wanted was a very ordinary life.

‘That’s why I wasn’t the main character—I was an extra.’

The main character is always the one who overcomes fate and changes the world in the end.

But still—

So what if you can’t change the world?

So what if you lose to fate and collapse?

Is a life that loses to fate worthless?

Are people who live such lives truly useless?
Do they not deserve happiness?

That can’t be true.

Now I can say it.

“I really like who I am now.”

Even if I wasn’t loved, even if I collapsed, became useless, and never shone.

Because of that, I learned how precious the love I do receive is.

I learned how to be satisfied with simply not collapsing, and how to treasure even more the people who love a version of me I once thought was useless.

And I learned how to sincerely applaud others who shine.

At last, I forgave my past self—the weak, clumsy me who wasted life clinging only to a parent’s love, the useless, failed version of myself.

So—

“Dad, don’t hate your failed past self so much either.”

All the other Dads bound by that dark red energy were failed pasts.

“Even if it was a past where you were used, failed, abandoned, and became useless—that time is why we exist now.”

Young Valer’s eyes widened. Then he lowered his gaze as if thinking, before nodding with a look of resolve.

At that moment, all the Valers of this land—who had been suffering under the pressure of my divinity—stopped clutching their heads and looked at us.

But unlike before, I wasn’t afraid—

“…!”

Because every single Valer began to turn into golden light and disappear.

And all of that light spread throughout the world.

Against a sky where dark red energy and my silver divinity mixed like oil and water, golden arcs of light streamed down like shooting stars.

Within it, Dad—in his childlike form—smiled brightly.

—Thank you for giving value to my past that was nothing but failure.

“…!”

A languid voice echoed from somewhere.
It was unmistakably the real Valer’s voice.

“Dad…?”

Young Valer was still smiling brightly, and no matter how I looked around, I couldn’t see the real Dad.

Then the mental world shone pure white.

As if everything were being cleansed.

I’d only just closed my eyes against the blinding light.

When I opened them again at the strange sensation, a completely different place came into view.

Somewhere familiar.

A broken moon floating in the air, fragments of stars falling from the sky, and a paradise-like landscape where it was impossible to tell day from night.

It seemed to be the world where I’d once met the slime who taught me how to use divinity.

“Back again.”

A low voice came from behind me.

‘A human voice….’

I reflexively tried to turn around, but a large white hand covered my eyes.

“?”

Before my vision was completely blocked, I caught a glimpse of a man with long jet-black hair, wearing strange clothes.

With red eyes I felt like I’d seen before.

“Why do you keep coming here?”

The questioning voice sank low, carrying a strange pressure that made people flinch.

But was he talking to me?

“Who are you?”

I thought this was the slime’s world—was I wrong?

But he didn’t seem inclined to answer.

“Go back.”

When that quiet command felt almost like a spell, I suddenly found myself opening my eyes for real, staring up at a clear blue sky.

****

I was back.

In reality.

“Wow.”

Such a clear sky. Fresh air.

Exploring the prison of the reverse world, a mana storm, strange crystal formations, a conversation with the “Last God” in the world of nothingness, and even a journey through Dad’s mental world.

I’d completed a long adventure.

“Honestly, even if I stay locked inside my house for the next ten years, everyone should understand.”

It was way too harsh an adventure for a homebody.

“Ugh…”

When I tried to get up, my whole body hurt like I’d been beaten up. Come to think of it, I think I even coughed up blood.

As I tried to rise, a sudden pain made me roll over—and I accidentally punched someone next to me.

What the—?

I lifted my head and saw Valer sleeping soundly.

“Wow. That’s my dad.”

Forgetting the pain, I blinked as I looked at my real dad.

Maybe because I’d just seen his younger self, I realized once again that my dad had grown up well, without going backward.

As expected—Albert’s beloved looks.

While nodding in admiration, the pain from earlier faded. I placed my hand on Dad’s face to check if he was breathing properly.

Yep. He’s breathing. He’s alive.

Then the clearest proof of success filled my vision.

Ding!

[‘Prevent ■■ of Val■’ has been completed successfully!]

What? That’s it?

Then another status window appeared.

[You have changed the future. Thank you.]

Being thanked by someone beyond the status window…

I was staring at it with a strange feeling when—

“Mm.”

With a soft breath, Dad’s eyelashes fluttered and his eyes opened. Our gazes met.

“…?”

But something was off about his look. At a moment that should’ve been a warm father-daughter scene, why was he looking at me like that?

“Miss…?”

“That’s right, but why?”

“Is that really you, Arellin?”

Dad sat up and grabbed my hand. Only then did I realize why he was acting strange.

Why is my hand so small?

I turned my eyes toward the blinking status window in the corner.

[!Side effect of divine overload!]

[Status effect: De-aged]

What do you mean by that, Mr. Status Window?
