“This is Cadet Bang Haeun’s father, and this is her uncle. Her mother is currently at the medical wing.”

While we were taking seats, the chairwoman introduced the guests.

The person called Bang Haeun’s father spoke first. For reference, this person is a mastermind.

“It’s regrettable to meet under such circumstances. Please understand a parent’s heart worrying about their daughter and answer questions sincerely.”

“…Yes.”

“Yes.”

‘Doesn’t seem worried at all though….’

The mastermind looked like a stern military officer and was exuding a chilling aura befitting a final villain.

He had the face of someone who’d never smiled even once in their life… it wasn’t stoicism—it seemed the facial muscles needed for smiling didn’t exist in the first place.

In contrast, the person called uncle was a fairly handsome man in his twenties with sky-blue hair reaching his waist….

‘……’

My thoughts stopped for a moment. Hoping against hope, I looked at the man’s neck, and saw a peculiar necklace strand woven from silver thread.

Brown henna tattoo on his left hand. An hourglass drawn in the tattoo’s center. Exactly as described in the novel.

Cold sweat ran down my back.

This man wasn’t a relative. He was the prescient.

Two masterminds had come to find me simultaneously.

‘Isn’t this… a bit much?’

The situation changed.

Honestly, I’d had thoughts like ‘should I subtly show off and score some points while I’m at it?’ but now isn’t the time for me to get cocky relying on the chairwoman’s backing.

‘The matchup is way too bad!’

Fake fortune-teller vs. real prescient.

This is an unwinnable fight. And according to Gyeon Junhwi, you don’t even start fights you can’t win.

Facing an opponent in a completely different weight class isn’t ‘fighting,’ it’s ‘civilian massacre.’ In times like this, don’t show pointless bravado—call a dark knight in the same weight class.

‘Ah, that’s why he called the chairwoman!’

Right, there’s no way our Junhwi dragged in the academy’s highest authority to satisfy my desire to subtly mess around.

I have one job today.

Sit quietly and behave.

— Don’t try to discover anything, focus on not revealing your identity. You’re an ordinary cadet meeting a parent.

Recalling the warnings Junhwi repeatedly emphasized, I adopted a modest posture befitting a nobody when the mastermind looked straight at me.

“My daughter still hasn’t woken up. I heard you used a strange gun.”

“Not a strange gun—a self-defense gun a friend gave me. It contains Paralysis bullets.”

“May I see that gun.”

“Yes.”

I respectfully presented the toy gun with both hands neatly together.

The mastermind picked it up, examined it from various angles, then pressed the toy gun’s muzzle against his own arm.

Even if it’s just a BB bullet, shooting at that distance would hurt….

Bang! Crack!

My concern was pointless.

My bullet met a spectacular end like an egg recklessly charging at a rock.

“You used this on my daughter?”

“Yes.”

“Lies come with a price.”

“But that’s the gun?”

It’s a lie.

That gun contains Paralysis skill bullets Gyeon Junhwi made. Just as I was about to start praising my baby’s universe-class foresight—

‘!!!’

Suddenly breathing became difficult. Air entered through my nose but my breath choked.

Fear assaulted me that the oxygen in the air had disappeared and I might suffocate to death.

“Bang Haeun Father? I understand your concern, but pressuring them like that will frighten the cadets.”

Oxygen returned. The chairwoman’s voice became a refreshing wind that drove away the dark clouds.

Praise Gyeon Junhwi’s protection, long live the chairwoman!

Admiring my baby’s greatness while preparing for the next question, the mastermind turned his gaze to Seong Hayul.

Seems he plans to ask questions going around one by one.

“Tell me what happened at the library yesterday.”

Even without raising his voice, the intimidation inherent in the mastermind’s voice itself was considerable, not good for a coward’s heart.

Seong Hayul hung her head low and answered while fiddling with her fingers.

“I don’t remember well either… I-I’m sorry, but watching the CCTV footage would be more accurate.”

“Not even a day has passed and you can’t remember.”

“I-I’m sorry. I was so shocked seeing a classmate bleeding before my eyes… I’m still not organized and confused… I think w-watching the footage would be more accurate than my testimony.”

Looks like she got a script from Gyeon Junhwi too.

Her answer is identical to mine.

“What conflicts occurred on the 2nd floor.”

Boram, whose turn was next, rattled off an answer like a mountain spring deep in the forest.

“S-someone said something so the a-atmosphere was bad, then suddenly they told us to l-look at the salon, so Sora and I searched for combs and brushes to use on the doll. It’s a comb with 1-millimeter spacing so it can be used on f-fine hair too, but s-suddenly Junhwi told us to v-vote? So we voted and I searched for a s-spray bottle for the doll….”

No matter what question was asked, the logic hopped around and concluded at ‘doll.’

The mastermind forced multiple washings, but our bunny just kept drinking water and disappearing.

Juwan, whose turn was last, answered according to script to the question ‘what did you steal from Bang Haeun?’

“5 lunch boxes, 3 stamina potions, 5 purification stones, 1 shoelace, 3 hair ties, 1 hairbrush, 1 toothpaste, 2 ballpoint pens, 1 lotion, 1 disinfectant tissue, 1 holy sword, 1 compass, 1 gauntlet, 1 emergency oxygen respirator—that’s what I remember.”

Questions continued for quite a while after that.

The mastermind tried to get us to say ‘the gauntlet Bang Haeun received from her parents is suspicious.’

But Junhwi’s script focused on ‘gauntlet? Is that important?’

Responding by hiding the tail before a mastermind trying to firmly cut it off.

The mastermind seemed to occasionally use skills. Sometimes the air suddenly became heavy making breathing difficult, but—

“Bang Haeun Father?”

“……”

When the chairwoman opened her mouth, the pressure disappeared.

‘A battle of auras between masters?’

If this were a webtoon, black energy might be rippling above the mastermind and blue energy above the chairwoman. But it’s invisible to a nobody’s eyes. Just trusting things would work out fine, I recited the script.

How much time passed like that.

“Haeun looked strange at the medical wing.”

The prescient opened his mouth for the first time.

Until now he’d kept his eyes slightly lowered maintaining silence, but suddenly he looked straight at Seong Hayul and asked a question.

“That neat child in an unwashed state for days…. Do you know when it started?”

“What? Uh… I don’t know exactly when. At some point I noticed she wasn’t washing her face or combing her hair….”

Since it was a question not in the script, Seong Hayul answered hesitantly, and the prescient rotated his head to look at Juwan.

“Did you also notice something was wrong?”

“Something… I did think it was strange.”

“Did you inform professors or other adults about that strangeness?”

“……No.”

Juwan answered with difficulty, eyes cast down.

Suddenly anxiety crept up.

Our Juwan was so shocked by the sight of Bang Haeun bleeding that he even stayed overnight at Junhwi’s place.

“Weren’t you worried?”

The prescient’s voice wasn’t threatening at all, but it had an excessively sharp and clean edge like a surgical scalpel, giving me chills.

So I tried to intervene in the conversation, but strangely my mouth wouldn’t open. My lips were stuck shut, not moving.

“I was worried, but I never imagined something like this would happen.”

“Whose welfare were you worried about?”

“……”

“Weren’t you worried Haeun would harm your precious person?”

“……”

A smile spread across the prescient’s lips. A somehow chilling smile.

“You knew this situation would occur. But you didn’t take measures like informing professors so Bang Haeun could receive help. You only thought about your precious person’s safety and sacrificed Bang Haeun….”

Bang!!!

I kicked back my chair and stood.

“Are you saying this is our fault!”

Fortunately my voice seems to work.

The prescient looked at me and smiled, then turned his head sideways yielding the floor to the mastermind. The mastermind glared at me like a cobra before a frog.

“Some incident occurred during practicals, and because of it, my daughter is hovering between life and death. I only want to know the truth.”

The surrounding air becomes heavy again.

This is when the chairwoman should step in….

‘What?’

Before I knew it, the surroundings had turned pitch black, and I was left alone with the mastermind in the darkness.

I don’t know what it is, but I know I’ve fallen into a trap.

“Will you speak the truth in Yeom Juwan’s place?”

The mastermind’s snake-like eyes flashed as he forced a choice on me.

It’s called a choice, but there’s only one possible answer here. If I refuse, the mastermind will target Juwan.

“Yes.”

The moment I answered, pitch-black darkness descended and I couldn’t see anything.

* * *

Shortly after,

A few candles shone and my vision gradually returned. I was in a room with black walls on all sides.

‘This is… a courtroom?’

A layout I’ve seen often in legal dramas. The judge’s seat is empty, and twelve white mannequins sit in a row in the jury box.

Clank! Clank!

Suddenly handcuffs appeared from who knows where and locked onto both my wrists. Heavy. The surface touching skin is full of needles, designed so tightening the cuffs would draw blood.

This is just… a torture device.

The mastermind isn’t visible yet.

‘What on earth is happening all of a sudden….’

I tried to calm my pounding heart and organize the situation.

Honestly… I’m a bit scared. Quite a lot.

But leaving aside being scared, this sudden development that threw plausibility to the dogs is also confusing.

‘Is he insane?’

Pulling this stunt at the academy, right before the chairwoman’s eyes? The mastermind isn’t that stupid.

Therefore, this is one of two things.

He’s using an Authority that throws plausibility to the dogs, or he’s confident he won’t get caught.

‘Maybe… it could be a mental attack.’

Mental-type skills can manipulate memories. I know well because our Ha Seonwoo frequently erases people’s memories too.

The mastermind plans to interrogate me, erase my memory, then make excuses before the chairwoman.

‘Juwan was bait.’

At the very top of the script Gyeon Junhwi provided was this warning:

————————

One, do not say words acknowledging responsibility like ‘I’m sorry’ regarding Bang Haeun’s suicide attempt!

————————

Our Junhwi knew something. But he didn’t properly understand Juwan.

Our kind-hearted Juwan acknowledged responsibility for Bang Haeun, and nearly got dragged to a space beyond the chairwoman’s reach… but I came in instead.

‘Got properly caught.’

I was caught without knowing, but I would’ve been caught even knowing. Because if I didn’t step forward, Juwan would obviously suffer.

Seems I was caught somewhat stupidly, but with two masterminds plus a real prescient appearing, this isn’t bad for a nobody.

And if it’s a mental attack, my survival probability is higher than Juwan’s.

Just as I finished super-speed self-blame and self-rationalization, the mastermind entered the courtroom.

Bang bang bang!

“The interrogation will now begin.”
