Super Rookie (1)

Dududududududududududu!

The two M134 Miniguns spun without rest.

And just as relentlessly, the Mana Hornets burst apart.

Pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop!

As if it were fireworks, the Mana Hornets were exploding one after another in midair.

Hundreds of bullets poured out, drawing dozens of red streaks across the sky, and the Mana Hornets exploded from the head the instant they emerged from the gate, scattering into smoke. It was truly a spectacular sight.

And this scene was captured by a media camera positioned far away, zoomed in to the maximum with a telephoto lens.

They could not enter the mana field, but from a great distance, they were able to capture at least the silhouettes. As a result, every broadcasting station was livestreaming this midair ‘fireworks show’ of exploding Mana Hornets.

“Amazing! Those infamous Mana Hornets are being completely blown apart in the air!”

“We’re too far away to determine exactly what kind of attack is annihilating the Mana Hornets, but one thing is certain… It’s truly incredible.”

“It almost looks like a machine cannon firing… Have we ever seen a mana user who attacks in this way before? This is unbelievable!”

“The Mana Hornets are being exterminated! This is it! Absolutely fantastic!!”

Each reporter from the different stations made their own comments, but in the end, they were all saying the same thing.

And the same reactions were spreading through the online community.

[ Is anyone watching the live broadcast of the Mana Hornet Gate hunt that just opened over Seoul, South Korea?]

[If you’re not watching, go find it right now. But does anyone know what kind of ability that is?]

  • I’m watching right now. The screen’s too blurry to tell exactly… but it looks like some kind of rapid-fire emission-type ability?
  • Absolutely not an emission-type ability. Even if not Seven Star, even Seven Star’s grandfather couldn’t fire an emission-type ability continuously at that speed. I’m an emission-type, so I know.
  • Yeah. If it were shooting a large number of energy bullets all at once, maybe. But that rate of fire is impossible. Anyone who’s actually used an emission-type ability would know that.
  • Then what the hell is that ability?
  • From the outside… it looks like it’s firing a Vulcan cannon or something.
  • Bro. That’s inside a mana barrier.
  • I know that. I just meant that’s what it looks like.
  • Then, could it be that the Management Bureau finally developed a new weapon?
  • Absolutely not. I belong to the Korean Management Bureau… and everyone here is in shock too.
  • Then what is it for real? Is it some other ability category we don’t know about?
  • Maybe… or maybe it’s truly a new form of emission-type mana user. Awakening abilities can be pretty unpredictable, after all.
  • True. The limits of emission-type abilities were defined by users anyway… maybe the system just broke those limits.
  • But who is it? Doesn’t seem like any of the known powerhouses.
  • If that’s Mana Hornets… isn’t that an S-grade Gate? Then we’ll see an announcement soon anyway.
  • Ah! Right. If the announcement goes up, at least we’ll know the ID.
  • Is this the appearance of a super rookie?
  • Whoa~ looks like we’re about to see another recruitment war.
  • First-stage announcement should be up soon…

……

……

The announcement users were waiting for was the system notice that appeared in the community when someone performed above a certain standard in an S-grade or higher Gate.

There were four stages to this announcement.

Stage 1 displayed the dungeon name and coordinates and posted: ‘XXX is massacring.’

Stage 2: ‘XXX is going berserk.’

Stage 3: ‘XXX is dominating the battlefield.’

And the final Stage 4: ‘XXX, the appearance of a legend!’

In reality, Stage 4 announcements were the domain of high-rankers… and among them, only those at the very top, the hyper-rankers.

Even reaching Stage 1 was enough to be acknowledged as a formidable powerhouse, so users always dreamed of seeing their name immortalized in a system notice.

However, the standards for these announcements were far higher than expected, and they only applied to S-grade or higher Gates. In truth, you could barely see one even once every few months.

[‘AbsoluteSafetyFirst’ is massacring.]

  • Whoa! The notice is up!
  • Absolute Safety First? Who’s that?
  • Yeah, first time I’ve seen that ID.
  • Oh! Isn’t that the guy who went crazy in that raid event recently? The long-range emission-type user.
  • That’s him. Huh? But his ability looks completely different now?
  • This is insane…
  • Is this even possible? Who the hell is he?

……

……

As expected, the first-stage notice appeared. But that wasn’t the end of it.

Seon Yul was currently holding two M134 Miniguns, one in each arm, firing them like a madman.

In the past, even firing one had been difficult for him, but now he could hold and fire both with remarkable stability.

Whiiiiiing—dududududududu!

The Miniguns spat bullets at an insane rate.

The ammunition belts had been prepared in abundant quantity beforehand, so he could keep firing like this for quite a while.

Normally, the problem wouldn’t even have been ammunition. The Miniguns themselves would have failed first from the strain. But thanks to the condition-maintenance ability applied inside Absolute Space, even that was no issue.

In short, as long as enough ammunition belts were connected, he could simply keep firing endlessly.

As a result, Seon Yul was truly spraying the Miniguns to his heart’s content.

Pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop!

The Mana Hornets couldn’t withstand the Miniguns’ firepower.

Eight thousand rounds per minute meant roughly 130 bullets per second.

With 130 bullets per second blanketing the entire Gate, it was extremely difficult for the Mana Hornets to slip through that mesh of bullets.

Occasionally, one or two managed to escape by sheer luck, but those were easily handled by the numerous strike team members waiting below.

Most important of all, there was still plenty of ammunition left.

“Go on!! Try pouring out as much as you want!”

Through a telephoto lens mounted on a tripod beside him, Seon Yul continuously monitored the Gate and his targets. As a result, the dense web of bullets created by his twin Miniguns kept the Gate perfectly covered.

Eventually, the second-stage notice appeared, and shortly afterward, the third-stage notice followed.

Seeing the notices rise at such incredible speed, community users… regardless of nationality, were stunned.

And that wasn’t all.

Since the Mana Hornet ‘fireworks show’ was still being broadcast live, viewers across the entire nation… no, the entire world, were equally astonished.

Then, about twenty minutes after the Gate had opened.

At last, the final fourth-stage notice appeared.

[‘AbsoluteSafetyFirst,’ the appearance of a legend!]

<Republic of Korea, Seoul (37.53114, 126.971) S-grade Dungeon>

  • Of course, he hits Stage 4 right away.
  • Isn’t that the fastest ever?
  • Wow, what an incredible super rookie.
  • Is Seven Star about to become Eight Star?
  • Nope~ Stage 4 notices are achievable by users ranked a step or two below Seven Star, too.
  • Mentioning Seven Star is overkill. Still, a new powerhouse has indeed appeared. And no one knows how much he’ll grow.
  • True. AbsoluteSafetyFirst? Hardly anyone won’t know that name now.
  • I’m telling you, it’s the emergence of a super rookie. No idea what kind of high-ranker he’ll become, but the appearance of a new powerhouse is always welcome.
  • But wasn’t the additional reward for a Stage 4 notice one top-grade magic stone?
  • That rumor’s been around, but it’s never been confirmed.
  • If it really is one top-grade magic stone, that’s insane.
  • That just shows how hard a Stage 4 notice is.
  • How much would a top-grade magic stone even sell for? Like, 100 billion won?
  • Does that thing even get traded? No one sells them, so there’s probably no actual market price.

……

……

About five minutes after the fourth-stage notice went up, the Mana Hornet rush that had seemed like it would last forever finally stopped.

In the end, after nearly 25 minutes of fierce combat, Seon Yul had single-handedly blocked the S-grade Mana Hornet Gate.

“That actually worked?”

The barrels of the Miniguns he set down on the ground were glowing red, as if they would have shattered at any moment had this not been inside Absolute Space.

Kiiiiing! Crack! crackle! boom!

With all the Mana Hornets eliminated, the Gate shattered like a mirror and vanished.

Normally, these ant nest–type Gates would first pour out a massive wave of colony-type monsters, then continue releasing them periodically in smaller batches.

But in this case, Seon Yul had pulverized every single colony-type monster (Mana Hornet) the moment they appeared, preventing even one from remaining alive… thus failing to satisfy the Gate’s maintenance condition that at least one colony-type monster must remain alive.

As a result, it immediately shattered and disappeared.

[You have eliminated a large quantity of colony-type monsters, Mana Hornets.]

[The S-grade Gate (Mana Hornets) has failed to meet its required condition and will be immediately destroyed.]

[Calculating your contribution to the destruction of the S-grade Gate (Mana Hornets).]

[Contribution: 99.99%. All experience and loot are settled to you.]

[S-grade Dungeon Stage 4 notice bonus experience and loot are settled to you.]

[You have gained a large amount of experience. Your level has greatly increased (Lv. 25 → Lv. 31).]

[You have acquired a new ‘Stigmata’ point.]

……

……

“Whoa….”

Seon Yul had expected the results to be good… but he hadn’t expected them to be this good.

He quickly closed the entrance to Absolute Space and calmed himself.

“In this level range… You can raise your level by six in one shot?”

He muttered in astonishment.

As far as he knew, the 25–35 level range was commonly called a hell zone.

Yet he had just jumped six levels at once. No wonder he was stunned.

“Ah! Level perk.”

Since he had surpassed level 30, he had naturally gained a new level perk.

Curious about it, Seon Yul immediately opened his status window.
