Both his prickly attitude and his face were quite similar. Julian nodded repeatedly as he stepped out of the shower and pulled on the clothes Gong Siyoung had prepared.
Thinking of him as Kkambi caused his favorability toward Gong Siyoung to skyrocket. Of course, he wasn’t actually Kkambi.
Water pooled at the tips of his hair and fell in heavy droplets. As he stepped out the door while shaking his hair dry with his hands, Gong Siyoung, who had been leaning against the wall, approached him.
“Let’s go.”
He gestured without further explanation. Julian followed quietly behind him this time as well.
He hadn’t intended to resist from the beginning. This was an unfamiliar world. Flying machines and machines that ran faster than horses were commonplace, and clean water gushed out just by turning a handle.
In a world he had never heard of or seen, teeming with high-rise buildings in every direction, Julian was a complete outsider.
While it was already exhausting enough just to adapt, he didn’t have the slightest desire to pick a fight with people called mages or Hunters or whatever.
Magic wasn’t common, but those called Hunters knew how to use magic to some extent.
Not only that, but monsters existed here too. That part wasn’t much different from the world Julian lived in.
The “Dungeons” they spoke of were similar to the region called “Beyond the Canyon” in Julian’s world.
The territory of monsters that appeared once one crossed the Great Canyon. Just as there were monsters that occasionally crossed the canyon, there were monsters here that popped out from Gates.
The atmosphere and circumstances were different, but the fact that the threat of monsters existed was a commonality that pierced through both worlds.
Here, too, monsters attacked people, and people met their deaths because of monsters.
However, Hunters were, how should he put it… a concept that was intuitively difficult to understand.
He had thought of it as a profession like a mercenary or a knight, but they said not everyone could become a Hunter just because they wanted to.
Also, once you became a Hunter, you had to enter Dungeons. In 그that regard, weren’t they rather similar to knights?
That wasn’t all. Only Hunters could manipulate mana. Mages and swordsmen, who were not hard to find in Julian’s world, were extremely rare here.
He suspected it was perhaps because mana itself was scarce.
‘Whatever, it’s not a problem for me to worry about.’
Whether he wanted to or not, he had come here, and Julian was a nobody in this place. There was no need or obligation for him to go out of his way to hunt monsters.
The issue of making a living weighed on him, but there seemed to be a sign that it would be resolved one way or another. Leeching off Kkambi—no, Gong Siyoung—was a method if it came to that.
‘For now, I’ll keep my mouth shut until they demand something from me.’
He intended to focus on enjoying the benefits he could enjoy for now. In fact, there wasn’t much else he could do anyway.
The elevator doors slid wide open. As he stared blankly, fascinated by the automatically opening doors, he felt a hand poke and push his back from behind.
“Please move quickly.”
At Gong Siyoung’s urging, he took slow steps. In the dark space filled with vehicles, Gong Siyoung moved past him.
He signaled with his eyes in front of the machine they had ridden when they first arrived. Julian opened the door and sat in the seat with quick wit. He felt his body melting at the sensation of the cushion sinking deeply.
“It’s so fluffy…”
The cushioning was beyond words, and the fast speed and stable ride were so good it was tiresome to even mention.
His sparkling eyes scanned the interior of the vehicle. Even as he touched everything in sight, he didn’t stop talking.
“Wow, what’s this? Oh, is it a drawer? What about this? It’s round. Huh? I pressed this and my butt is getting hot! What is this, is it magic?”
Every time he touched one thing, a fuss broke out. He pressed buttons, then turned them; it was nothing short of a riot.
Gong Siyoung slowly turned his head toward Julian, who was freaking out because sound came out when he pressed the audio button. He had an ominous aura as if he might hit him if he did it just a little more.
“Please, just shut that mouth.”
“Huh? Okay. I got it, but what’s that?”
Julian fiddled with the air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror. Every time he tapped the dangling freshener with his hand, it swung helplessly.
“What is this? It smells incredibly good.”
After sniffing it, he touched the air freshener again. At the same moment the string snapped, Gong Siyoung’s rationality snapped as well.
“I told you to knock it off! This crazy human really can’t stay still for a second! Huh?! Shut your mouth, seriously!”
At the thunderous shout, Julian flinched and withdrew his hand. Settling into a quiet posture, he blinked and looked at Gong Siyoung.
Is he angry because I broke that? His gaze drifted toward the air freshener that had fallen weakly.
“Is asking you to shut your mouth that difficult a request? Yes? Just shut up and stay still! Don’t move! Just stay like that! Don’t make a person lose their mind, serious-ly!”
“Mhm… okay. I’ll shut up. My mouth is shut right now.”
Julian quickly covered his mouth. He didn’t quite understand, but if he was told to shut up, he had to shut up; what else could he do.
Once he became quiet, Gong Siyoung grabbed his head. Julian’s lips twitched as he glanced at the irritably crumpled face.
Before he could even start to say something, Gong Siyoung’s gaze followed him again. Julian clamped his mouth shut with a hup and feigned innocence.
Like that, silence finally found its way into the car.
‘He’s really sensitive.’
Come to think of it, Kkambi was like that sometimes. If he hovered nearby, stroking the fur the wrong way and teasing, the cat would hiss and get angry.
Of course, the other party was a human and not a cat, but wouldn’t the general vibe be similar?
If he says he hates noise, I should match that. All I have to do is keep my mouth shut, so how hard could it be.
Julian kept his mouth tightly shut and slightly extended his hand. Since he was only told to keep his mouth shut, he had no intention of stopping his hands. As if showing off, he poked a blinking button that had caught his eye earlier with his index finger.
Each time he pressed it, a light flickered on and off. Just as he was about to firmly press the button with the red triangle on it, Gong Siyoung snatched his hand away like a ghost.
“If you touch that button… one more time, know that I’ll break your finger.”
A low, growling warning followed. Tension rushed into his captured finger. Julian nodded promptly.
“I got it.”
I really want to try pressing it a little… but since he told me not to, I should endure it.
His eyes, full of lingering attachment, turned toward the red triangle button. As if reading Julian’s thoughts, Gong Siyoung gripped his hand tightly.
“Just keep holding it as we go. Just try letting go of my hand, see what happens.”
Julian pouted at the provocative statement. What on earth is it that he’s telling me not to do? Someday, I will definitely press it, that triangle button.
Contrary to those thoughts, for now, he quietly held hands. Whenever he fidgeted his fingers, a warning “Tsk!” inevitably flowed out.
Is this perhaps a new kind of torture? Telling me not to talk, telling me not to move my hands. He tried his best to ignore the dissatisfaction creeping up and cast his gaze out the window.
Watching the dazzlingly brilliant outside scenery, his mood softened in an instant as if it had never happened.
No matter where he looked, it was just fascinating. He hadn’t known such a place existed, and because he hadn’t known he would end up in such a place, his heart throbbed. What kind of place is this, really?
While he was watching for a long time as if possessed, the speed gradually decreased, perhaps having arrived at the destination.
The car arrived at the parking lot and stopped. Gong Siyoung, who let go of his hand coldly, got out of the car without looking back. Julian hurriedly followed behind him.
If he wandered off here, it would be easy to become a lost child. Fortunately, Gong Siyoung was tall. He was the type who was easy to find no matter where you put him.
“Right. But about my sword. Do you happen to know where it is?”
When they got into the elevator, Julian suddenly opened his mouth. It was a question tossed out based on his own systematic judgment that it should be okay to open his mouth by now.
As if his judgment was correct, a compliant answer flowed out instead of being told to shut his mouth.
“I left it in the Dungeon.”
“Ah.”
I see. Julian nodded.
Well, if it was left in that Dungeon, it was rather a relief. Since they said no one but Hunters can enter, at least there’s no worry of losing it.
I should go find it when I get the chance. While he was making that resolution, Gong Siyoung suddenly looked at him.
“…Is it important?”
“What?”
“Your sword.”
“Well. Rather than it being important…? It’s an attachment sword.”
It was snapped in two, but it could be fixed and used. It was also the only thing he possessed. Julian shrugged his shoulders.
“It’s like a memento an old friend left behind before he died.”
At those words, Gong Siyoung fell silent. He said nothing for a long while as if pondering something, then muttered without even meeting his eyes.
“…Then it is important.”
Is he concerned? To show that it was okay, Julian patted Gong Siyoung’s shoulder.
“Don’t worry about it.”
Why feel sorry when all I have to do is go to the Dungeon and find it. Julian answered as if it were no big deal.
