Thus, the date for Miella’s appearance before the disciplinary committee was drawing near.

“I always tell young scholars, as members of the Magic Tower, never to act rashly. These days, they really don’t listen,” muttered Yulin, the Tower Master.

Yulin was a tall, thin old woman with a face that could scare children at a glance.

She was originally a magical scholar and, though only mildly skilled, a mage. But in neither field was she particularly gifted.

The reason Yulin still reigned as Tower Master was because she was the mother of King Wittegar III of the Allegro Kingdom—and the grand Queen.

Normally, for an incident like Miella’s—what was essentially a “short-term unauthorized departure”—the harshest punishment would be nothing more than “indefinite probation.”

But none of the elders thought of handing down such a light punishment.

Everyone knew that Yulin was always anxious because she couldn’t catch Miella.

So, eager to curry favor, the elders chimed in one after another:

“Do not worry, we are all of one mind. We’ll hand down the heaviest punishment possible.”

“Tsk.” Yulin clicked her tongue.

“I told you from the start that bringing that woman Lillia into the Allegro royal family would bring nothing but trouble. And sure enough, she bore that white-haired girl who became a seed of disaster. Now her daughter has gone and betrayed our nation by siding with Remdragon—how ungrateful can one be?”

If there was anyone Yulin hated more than Miella, it was the late Lillia.

The elder who was close to Yulin nodded at her words.

“You’re right.”

“That family’s blood is hopeless!”

“How did Scholar Shu, who was a member of the Magic Tower, end up having such daughters!”

“Wasn’t he the one who kept publishing papers that criticized our royal family until the day he died? It must have been the will of the heavens that he also failed so completely at raising his children.”

Yulin nodded in satisfaction at their words.

“When I think that my dear son, His Majesty, was even briefly bewitched by that wretched Lillia… Truly, every woman of the Shu family is a shameless witch.”

“This is the perfect chance to ensure that none of their blood ever steps foot in the Tower again.”

“<No member of the Shu family shall be allowed inside, not even a dog.> We can bring this up at the next meeting and write it down in the rules of the tower!”

Yulin laughed loudly at the elders’ flattery.

Yulin was originally an old woman with a rather unpleasant appearance. But suddenly, she burst into a girlish, cheerful laughter, and her expression instantly changed to a vulgar one.

“Oh my, you all speak so humorously.”

Yulin’s mood seemed to change quickly, and she gritted her teeth.

“And Miella-that girl-after we let her into the Tower, she stabbed us in the back. You can’t show the slightest mercy to lowly scum.”

“You are absolutely right, Grand Queen.”

“Hmm,”

Yulin glared at the elder who had said that.

“How many times have I told you to address me as ‘Tower Master’ in here?”

“Oh—my apologies, Tower Master.”

Yulin nodded.

“In any case, this incident needs to be taken seriously. It should serve as an example to everyone.”

“How about we gather all the Tower’s members and whip her in front of them?”

“Even if we remove Miella, we must first punish her thoroughly.”

“That would be good too. Everyone, give me your suggestions. She’s practically the root of evil for the Allegro royal family—and being the aunt of that cursed child is a crime in itself. Not even the slightest leniency should be shown.” Yulin said so.

“Miella Shu, come in!”

It was finally time for the disciplinary committee to begin.

The chamber doors opened, revealing the round dais, several steps above the floor, where the elders sat encircling the space.

Miela walked into the spot directly under their gaze.

Next to Miella stood Miles, a man with a good-looking face, and sweat dripping down his face.

And the disciplinary committee began.

“Miella Shu. Do you acknowledge that your actions may constitute treason against the Kingdom of Allegro?”

“Do you accept the sentence of expulsion?”

Unlike her Master, Miles, Miela’s expression remained her usual—slightly irritable and utterly unreadable.

‘So she dares remain stiff to the very end? How insolent.’

Yulin clicked her tongue.

“What’s with that attitude? If you’re reflecting, you should be begging for forgiveness right now.”

Finally, unable to bear it any longer, one of the elders who was serving as judge for the day shouted:

“I don’t reflect.”

Miella answered calmly.

“What?”

“For a member of the Magic Tower belonging to Allegro to visit the Remdragon without permission is an act of treason!”

“How can you be so shameless after committing such a grave sin!”

A storm of accusations poured down on Miella’s head.

But Miella didn’t even twitch an eyebrow.

“Remdragon is our ally. How is visiting them an act of treason?”

“Look at it, look at it, you really have no manners!”

—Bang!

Yulin slammed the desk in anger.

“How dare you talk back!”

“Apologize to the Master of the Tower!”

Miella didn’t even raise an eyebrow, but her hands were trembling slightly.

“Miella.”

Only Miles looked at her with pleading eyes.

He knew his student hadn’t truly done wrong. But he also feared that if she stayed stubborn now, she would suffer far worse.

—Bang!

The door flew open.

“Who dares disrupt this solemn gathering—!”

“Who would barge in without permission?!”

Everyone was frowning, but one person suddenly came inside.

“Who is that?” the elders murmured.

That’s understandable, because the person who entered was obviously no ordinary person.

Black hair, tall stature, and cold eyes.

And he was such an incredibly handsome man that everyone who made eye contact with him tilted their head in momentary awe.

And in his arms, there was a child who looked incredibly cute, with silver hair tied into two pigtails.

‘What the heck is that kid?’

A place where people plot to ruin someone’s future by passing a harsh sentence.

No one here wanted the symbol of innocence—a young child—to enter.

‘That kid. No way.’

Among them, one or two quick-witted elders tilted their heads at the sight of Sephiel’s hair color and bright red eyes.

But the child blinked her ruby-like eyes cutely as if she knew nothing, and then patted the arm of the man holding her.

The man, Daihan, lowered Sephiel to the floor. He then glanced around at the people.

“Why are you staring at someone else’s child without permission?” Daihan said.

“…Because she’s cute?”

“…….”

“…….”

‘What?’

It was a moment when the elders doubted their ears.

But none of them dared to raise their doubts aloud.

“You can’t just walk in like this!”

“Stop—! Wait. Why can’t I cast magic?!”

“How did you even get in here?”

Soon, a group of knights, wearing matching helmets and robes, rushed in, shaking off the wizards and guards who were in charge of the escort.

They were dressed entirely in black.

‘That crest…’

Yulin, recognizing the emblem embroidered on their uniforms, leapt to her feet.

“Remdragon!” Yulin shouted.

“Remdragon?”

“You mean they’re from Remdragon?”

At that moment, a tall, handsome man with a faint greenish hue to his hair stepped forward from the crowd.

He cleared his throat and spoke.

“I am Elton, the butler of the Grand Duke’s family.”

The elders glanced at one another in confusion.

The Remdragon family has been living in seclusion in the castle for a long time, yet it’s been so long since they saw so many members of that family.

And the members of the family they were just arguing about were right in front of them.

They couldn’t figure out what was going on.

“This is His Grace, Daihan de Remdragon, the Grand Duke of Remdragon. Show proper respect.”

People looked at each other and then stood up awkwardly.

‘Am I dreaming?’

‘Is he a scammer?’

Some still eyed him with suspicion— for the Grand Duke family of Remdragon had been nearly legendary for so long.

It was only through the recent banquet to choose the young Master’s fiancée that the world had been reminded—Ah, so they really do exist after all.

But it was said that no one saw the Grand Duke at that place.

‘Hmm. It’s been a while, Grandma.’

Sephiel found an old woman on the highest platform, her face pale and glaring at her.

She was Sephiel’s grandmother—and the Grand Queen. Her name was Yullin.

‘Ranked sixth on my Death Note… and my biological grandmother.’

Yulin loved her grandchildren dearly, but strangely, she hated Sephiel.

She took immense pride in the fact that she was the one who had made Wittegar III king.

And although she would go around saying, “When women get too strong-willed, they block men’s futures,”

She herself was the strongest-willed woman of them all—truly a mysterious personality.

It was obvious what kind of grudge she had with Yulin.

It’s just that Sephiel was always the one she scolded.

In her previous life, when Sephiel had just come out of prison.

There was a time when the third older brother beat and bullied Sephiel, causing her to run away.

Then Sephiel pushed her third brother, Huron, and ended up injuring him.

‘I really got beaten to tears for that one.’

Yulin had called over her maids and lashed Sephiel mercilessly, saying, “Do you think that someone like you and my precious grandchildren are the same?”

And she had even said:

“You, girl, are the only flaw in my precious son. If your wretched mother hadn’t seduced him in the first place, you would never have been born. Tch, even your unlucky eyes resemble hers—it’s irritating me to death.”

Sephiel had been angry back then, but…

The moment that hurt the most was seeing Yulin punish her, then turn around to comfort her fully grown third grandson.

“Oh, my precious baby. That witch hurt you, didn’t she?”

Then she’d fuss over the tiniest scratch on him, asking if he was hurt anywhere else—how much Sephiel had hated her in that moment.

‘My mom’s not some wretched woman. She’s just beautiful!’

Sephiel remembered her mother’s face in the portrait she had received from Miella.

‘You’re the one who’s unlucky, Grandma.’

Sephiel felt a subtle anger forming inside her.

‘Yeah. Grandma Yullin and my damn father have something in common. First, they’re both terrible people. Second, what they treasure most is similar.’

For Yullin, it was her position as Tower Master—her entire life. And for both of them, their precious family.

‘Hmm…’

Sephiel thought to herself.

‘Either one of those would be worth smashing.’

‘Grandma, I’m sorry, but from now on, there will be no respect for the elderly.’

After all, she had already fulfilled her filial duty in her past life by enduring all those beatings without a word.

‘Of course, not me personally… in the Grand Duke’s family, things like that don’t exist.’
