Desire Me If You Can Chapter 11
However, the fire chief had no choice but to pretend he didn’t know and ignore it. It was because he had been promised a massive donation on the condition that he just put up with the troublesome young master for exactly one year. It was said that he could demand whatever he wanted—be it the latest fire truck he had been eyeing for a long time or various fire equipment. So, who could dare to turn down such a tempting offer?
The same went for his subordinates. Right now, they would be angry that someone had easily entered a position they had struggled to obtain through nepotism, but once they received their reward in a year, their minds would clear, and they would understand the chief.
However, it was difficult for even Miller to understand someone who would shell out so much money for his son’s mere pastime. Of course, it must be possible because he had that kind of wealth to back it up. Doing something like this was out of the question for a commoner like him.
It seemed that even Ashley Miller, a man said to be devoid of blood or tears, cherished his own child.
Although the chief had told his staff otherwise, the more he thought about it, the more he felt an unpleasant, knot-like sensation in his gut. Yet, he had no choice but to endure it. Enduring for just one year was something that applied to him as well.
Ahem. Clearing his throat, the fire chief gestured ostentatiously at the papers lying in front of him and spoke.
“I’ve heard the story from Assemblyman Miller. Still, we have to go through simple procedures, so I’d like to ask you a few questions. Is that alright?”
“Yes, certainly.”
This, too, had been discussed in advance. Of course, it was just a formality, but they couldn’t skip it. In any case, they had to ensure no talk of anything illegal would come up later.
Clearing his throat once more, the fire chief lifted his head to look at the man.
“Introduce yourself. Tell me what kind of person you are.”
“My name is Grayson Miller.”
Starting with his simple name, he continued without a hitch. The fire chief’s expression remained unchanged as he listened to the man. The questions were nothing but the stale, obvious ones commonly asked of those aspiring to be firefighters. Because the result was already determined no matter how he answered, the chief was letting the man’s words wash over him with vacant eyes.
…Huh?
However, as he silently listened to the smooth-flowing voice, he gradually realized that something was wrong. Startled, the chief straightened his posture and tossed out the next question, but the situation did not change. If anything, a sense of dread washed over him.
The content of his words, his tone, his gestures, and even how he directed his gaze.
As he watched everything about Miller, goosebumps rose on his skin.
Extreme Alphas are all psychopaths.
And a fact he had once heard in passing suddenly surfaced in his mind.
Beautiful enough to bewitch everyone, yet their brains are just as broken. Someone who had expressed extreme hatred for Extreme Alphas had said that, claiming that every single one of them was abnormal. They said that if you weren’t an Extreme Alpha yourself, no one could ever understand them.
The moment that story overlapped with the man in front of him, a chill ran through the chief’s entire body.

Several men looked up at the cloudless, deep blue sky and then turned to exchange implicit glances with one another. Since they had already heard that Grayson Miller had headed to the fire chief’s office, the time for their face-to-face encounter would be soon.
“You’re all ready, right?”
When one asked, the other men nodded in turn.
“How long has that bastard been in the chief’s office?”
“It’s about time for him to come out. He’ll show up here soon.”
“We need to teach him a lesson from the start. We have to make him realize that being a firefighter is absolutely not an easy job.”
“Let’s make him pee his pants on the spot.”
“It’ll be a sight to see him running away with his pants soaked.”
“Help me, help me!”
At someone’s mocking shout, a burst of laughter erupted. They were men who trained their muscles daily and were well-versed in strenuous work. A single regular man was no match for them. On top of that, even Valentina was out watching. Now was the perfect time for them to show off their masculinity to Valentina. Come on! You spoiled little brat!
They stood there, puffing up their muscles and glaring in the direction they expected Miller to come from. The time filled only with tension and silence did not last long.
“…He’s coming.”
Someone muttered upon hearing approaching footsteps. The sound of someone swallowing hard followed. The eyes of the man who had confidently clenched his fists and braced himself caught a figure approaching around the corner, and then everyone’s gaze became fixated. The first to appear was the chief, as expected. Their eyes quickly shifted to the person following him.
Let’s see that arrogant face. He’ll be pissing himself like a baby soon.
Amidst the murderous gazes, the man finally revealed himself.
Something seems wrong with the perspective.
That was the thought that commonly crossed their minds first. It was a well-known fact that Ashley Miller, the head of the Miller family, was unimaginably tall. Therefore, they had vaguely expected that his son would also be quite tall. Some of them had even seen his photos or videos through the media, so they had prepared themselves to some extent.
But there was a massive difference between imagining it and seeing it in person. They were so dumbfounded that they lost their senses at the sight of a massive man who looked to be three heads taller than the average person walking toward them.
It wasn’t just his great height that made them doubt their own eyes. His brilliant golden hair shone dazzlingly in the sunlight, and his deep purple eyes—which they were seeing for the first time—added to the mystery of the man’s existence.
On top of that, with his horizontally long eyes, a smooth nose bridge that didn’t look like it had ever been broken, and a refreshingly large mouth with wide, thick lips, he was perfect. And what about his long arms and legs, fitting for his tall stature, not to mention the solid, muscular chest revealed between the buttons of his shirt? Even his fingers were beautiful; he looked as if he had just stepped right out of a fashion pictorial.
And this man had an incredibly sweet scent. They felt even more dazed by the wonderful fragrance that felt like it would pull them in completely.
This isn’t where this man belongs.
They vaguely realized it. He must have found the wrong place. Or perhaps he came to film a promotional video for the fire station. Right, that must be it. Everyone was thinking the same thing in their heads. This man could not be the hooligan they were waiting for.
While they were just staring blankly at the man who had stopped a few steps away, a cough—ahem—woke them up. Even so, the fire chief spoke to them while they were still unable to take their eyes off the man.
“This is Grayson Miller. As you already know, he will be with us for the next year. I hope you all welcome him. It’s a short time, so I trust you will all treat him well.”
This statement contained the meaning of “let’s just endure it for a year.” Of course, they all understood as well, and although there was a slight delay, they finally realized the reality before them.
That the opponent they had been so eager to crush was this man standing right in front of them.
“This guy is Miller?”
One of them asked with a deeply furrowed brow. His gaze remained fixed on Grayson, and he wore a rebellious expression, but there was a hint of disbelief in his tone.
“Yes.”
The chief replied as if he didn’t really want to.
“I talked about the details before, so let’s just introduce ourselves and wrap it up for today. We agreed to let you know about the work starting tomorrow, so don’t overdo it.”
It was a soft way of telling them not to cause trouble, but it was unclear how much his subordinates would follow that advice. After shooting an uncertain look at Grayson, the chief added:
“There will be a welcome party at the bar later tonight, so everyone must come without exception. Please take your time greeting the others who aren’t here then.”
Although he spoke as thoughtfully as possible, Grayson Miller, offensively enough, seemed to have no interest whatsoever. Seeing him looking around the fire station interior with his clear field of vision, thanks to his towering height, the fire chief sighed and left the scene.
In any case, they’re all adults, so they can handle it themselves. I’ve done as much as I can. There’s no need for me to give a warning about that man.
