Desire Me If You Can Chapter 20
One year was certainly a short time, but sometimes it felt incredibly long. Dane, arriving at work on time, saw Grayson and another female employee flirting right in front of him and couldn’t help but let out a bitter, incredulous laugh.
He had already seen this exact scene repeated so many times it made him wonder if he was stuck in a time loop.
But, of course, such a thing was impossible. The most concrete evidence was that the face of the female colleague changed every time. Once again, the colleagues watched helplessly as a different employee from the day before clung to Grayson. Finally, Diandre, unable to watch any longer, exploded.
“I can’t take this anymore.”
At the sight of Diandre jumping up with heavy, ragged breaths, the men who had been sitting around checking their personal gear looked up at him in surprise. Diandre pointed one way, as if to show off his defiance.
“Are you guys okay with this? Are you just going to sit there watching this every day?”
In the direction Diandre was pointing, Grayson Miller was flirting with a new female employee.
The giant-framed Grayson Miller had one hand in his pocket, wearing a relaxed smile, and was whispering something into her ear. In front of him, the woman tilted her head slightly, lightly pushing back her long hair. She was focused on his words, her eyes sparkling with a bright smile. Natural friendliness exuded from her small gesture of shrugging her shoulders. She laughed shyly, lightly stroking her arm or twirling a lock of hair with her fingertips, reacting as if she found him fascinating.
The air between the two was as natural as if they had known each other for a long time. Everyone who had shifted their gaze simultaneously looked back at Diandre after seeing that. Among the bewildered men, Ezra looked up at him, spreading his arms wide, as if asking what he expected them to do.
“That guy is turning our organization into a mess! Are we just going to let it be? Are we just going to sit here blankly like this!”
The reaction remained lukewarm. The men, who had been blinking blankly, opened their mouths one by one, as if against their will.
“So, what do you want us to do…? What can we even do?”
“Are you saying we should grab Miller and beat him up?”
“I’m all for beating up Miller, but isn’t it a bit much to grab and beat someone just because they’re popular with women? Anyway, if the women don’t want to do it with us, what can we do…?”
“I went on a date with Ally last week. If you try, it’s possible for anyone.”
At someone’s sudden confession, everyone’s interest shifted there in an instant. The protagonist of the remark already had a confident smile on his lips. One could feel a strange sense of vanity in his attitude, as if he were deliberately taking it easy while stroking his chin, and in his slightly raised eyebrows.
“Oh, not bad.”
“You bastard! When did you pull off such a bold move?”
As clapping and jeers erupted from here and there, he straightened his chest, feeling even more confident.
“It’s proof that women don’t only look at Miller. We’re going to coordinate our next off-duty days to go on another date. I’ve already picked out a nice restaurant.”
“Buy her flowers when you go on a date. I always gave roses.”
At Wilkins’s advice, he nodded and replied.
“I told the flower shop I was going on a date, and they made it up for me. Ally wore a green dress when we went on our date last time, and I’m telling you, she was really sexy.”
The men responded with “Oh!” and cheered for their colleague, but in Diandre’s eyes, it was just a pathetic sight.
“You idiots!”
He shouted at the top of his lungs, then suddenly turned and stomped away. The surprised colleagues hurriedly stood up, watching his retreating figure. Is he going to fight Miller? Should we stop him? Or is he just going to the restroom? While they were having all sorts of thoughts, he suddenly headed in a completely unexpected direction.
“Uh…?”
Wilkins made a bewildered, empty sound. While everyone watched with the same heart, Diandre stopped walking and suddenly roared.
“What on earth is this? Aren’t you all being too much? How can you betray us like this!”
The female employees, who had been gathered checking their personal equipment, turned to look at him all at once. Everyone had a bewildered expression at his out-of-the-blue outburst. Although the courage to recklessly invade the women’s space and shout was quite admirable, their reaction was cold.
“Betrayal? What are you talking about? Say it so we can understand.”
Priscilla, the team leader of Team B, asked as she stood up from her seat. Diandre faltered and stepped back seeing his colleagues rising one by one with a menacing aura, but when he turned his head, the male employees watching came into his view. Unable to retreat because of his pride, Diandre stood his ground and puffed out his chest, bluffing as if nothing were wrong.
“I asked you out on a date three times, but you refused! It’s not just me, all of us were rejected! You coldly turned away from us, who have been together for years, so how can you do that to a guy you haven’t even known for a week? You’re all traitors, traitors!”
Despite Diandre’s cry full of resentment, the women all had cynical reactions.
“So.”
Valentina, who was standing behind, stepped forward and opened her mouth.
“You’re asking why we sleep with Grayson Miller but won’t sleep with you, right? Is that what all of you think?”
At the blatant question from Valentina, whom they usually worshipped, Diandre was startled. At the gaze directed at the men standing behind him, they also panicked and shook their heads.
“No, we’re not quite at that level.”
“We’re just curious, it’s just curiosity, you know.”
“Hey, I’m not even curious. There must be a reason. Diandre, what are you doing? Just come here, quickly.”
Ezra even gestured urgently, but nevertheless, Diandre stood firmly and waited for an explanation. The more you do that, the more miserable you’ll look! The men watching from behind all had the same thought and felt pity for him, but there was no other way. The women chuckled at the lukewarm attitude of the men, who didn’t actively drag him away perhaps because they were secretly curious what kind of answer would come out.
“He’s handsome, and he has good manners.”
“That’s all?”
At Valentina’s words, Diandre asked as if he had been waiting, and this time, Liz spoke.
“I found Grayson to be actually warm and kind when I experienced it for myself. On top of that, he’s easy to talk to. It was a first for me, having a man empathize with what I say like that.”
“What did you say?”
At those words, not only Diandre but also the men watching from behind were shocked. What does that mean? To them, who were bewildered, another woman said.
“Besides, it felt like he could read my entire mind. He naturally caught what I wanted and what I wanted to hear. He approached me without being overbearing, but you could feel that he was sincere, you know? He’s not just gentlemanly on the surface; his way of considering the other person is genuinely meticulous.”
“That’s right, isn’t it amazing? And he listens to whatever I say, so I ended up falling in love at that moment.”
At that, the women who had gone on dates with Grayson nodded in agreement from here and there. But Diandre still couldn’t understand their words.
“Extreme Alphas are psychopaths! But they empathize? That’s nonsense, you must have been mistaken!”
Even with Diandre’s protest, the women’s reactions remained cold. As if to say, no matter how much you blather on, nothing about us will change.
“I wanted to try sleeping with an Extreme Alpha. It’s a special experience, isn’t it?”
Perhaps thinking that words wouldn’t reach him, they gave another reason. When Liz said that, the agreement continued.
“That’s right, and I saw an Extreme Alpha for the first time in my life. And on top of that, sex—wouldn’t I obviously be curious?”
Seeing the nodding from all over, Diandre was left speechless, mouth agape as if dumbfounded. Valentina looked at Diandre with a smirk.
“You still don’t get it? Even women can be as promiscuous as they want, as long as there’s no risk of pregnancy.”
“Extreme Alphas control their fertilization. Isn’t that a wonderful thing? To be able to have such amazing sex without having to worry about getting pregnant.”
“I finally understood why men are so crazy about sex. You can enjoy it to your heart’s content because there’s no risk of pregnancy.”
“If it were men, not women, who got pregnant, you guys would have been forced to be cautious too.”
