Chapter 114 — Guild War – Glory (3)

ROOOAAARRR!!

The Eclipse Wyvern let out an even louder roar than when Yallen had drawn its aggro.

A cry so deafening it felt as though my eardrums would burst.

It carried such overwhelming killing intent that my hands instinctively trembled.

“It’s incredibly angry.”

Speaking as calmly as ever, Targon casually tossed Kyras toward me.

The half-elf ninja, already completely incapacitated, lay limp and unable to move.

His eyes, however, still gleamed brightly.

As though he couldn’t wait to see what was about to happen.

“…Targon’s finished now. Defeating ‘that’ in only three minutes? That’s nothing but fantasy.”

[Honestly, he’s right. But you’ll probably pull another unbelievable solution out of nowhere, won’t you? Do your best. :)]

The complete faith they had in me was almost irritating.

Maybe I should act like an airhead who knows nothing once in a while.

ROAR!

The Wyvern entered the cavern, huffing angrily as it surveyed the interior.

Then it fixed both eyes directly on the High Warrior, the gray orc.

Despite its body being completely different from that of ordinary intelligent beings, it wasn’t difficult to tell that its face was overflowing with disgust and hatred.

[The potion the Conspirator scattered was made from an enormous number of ingredients. Apparently, every single one of them was something the Wyvern utterly despised!]

To think even a Level 7 Eclipse Wyvern could be provoked this badly.

No ordinary alchemist could have brewed something like that.

ROOOAAARRR!!

Opening its jaws wide, the Wyvern charged at Targon.

The comparatively tiny-looking gray orc was swallowed whole.

“…It’s done.”

Kyras smiled in satisfaction.

You’re celebrating too early.

CRACK!

The Wyvern’s sharp teeth shattered. Targon burst out from inside its mouth. His expression remained utterly indifferent.

If anything, the one watching looked even more shocked.

“Right now, that Wyvern is Level 7. No matter how strong Targon is, how can he possibly–

“Please keep quiet.”

I stuffed a fragment of the giant tree root that had broken earlier into Kyras’s mouth to silence him.

Then I addressed Targon.

“Guild Master. How long can you hold that Wyvern off?”

“Well.”

Smacking away the Wyvern’s head as it charged again and forcing some distance between them, Targon pondered briefly before answering.

“Roughly two minutes would be my limit.”

“Perfect.”

I immediately sent the Blind Crow outside.

Then I grabbed the Conspirator and dragged him into a corner, sitting him down against the wall.

So he could have a front-row seat to the battle between two monstrous beings.

“Looks like I’ll finally work up a sweat for the first time in a while.”

Gripping his halberd with both hands, Targon swung at the incoming claws.

BOOOOM!

The glowing claws descending toward the orc were knocked aside, crushing only the unfortunate ground.

A parry that bordered on perfection.

It was practically like deflecting a cleaver with a toothpick.

How could anyone redirect something like that so cleanly?

ROOOOAR!

The Wyvern repeatedly battered the air with its wings.

They were somewhat slow because of their size… but even grazing them would be fatal.

CLANG! CLANG!

Even so, Targon effortlessly diverted every single fierce attack.

His weaponsmanship certainly looked crude at first glance.

Yet every movement contained refined mastery far beyond the understanding of a lowly cultist like me.

“…Why is ‘that’ only Level 5?”

Spitting out the piece of wood I’d jammed into his mouth, Kyras muttered weakly.

“It’s such an overwhelming technique that one could almost believe the labyrinth’s level restrictions simply don’t apply to Sir Targon.”

“That’s exactly why I prepared [Mind Usurper]…”

Perhaps growing even angrier because the tiny orc kept blocking everything, the Wyvern went berserk.

Legs. Wings. Tail. It used its entire body to rampage.

The cavern itself was beginning to collapse.

CLANG!

The steadfast arc traced by Targon’s halberd smashed directly into the Wyvern’s forehead.

The Wyvern violently twisted its body, sweeping its tail.

The orc lightly leapt over it… then descended, bringing the halberd crashing down.

CRACK!

[Savage Battle Guillotine].

The Berserker class’s powerful Seventh-Tier Mystery struck the scale-covered back of the Wyvern’s neck.

It dealt no actual damage… yet the monster’s gigantic body staggered for an instant.

ROOOAAARRR!!

Hit by an unexpected blow, the Eclipse Wyvern flew into an even greater frenzy.

This time, it actually lifted itself into the air, only to slam its entire body straight back down, trying to crush Targon beneath its weight.

“Truly dangerous.”

Even though he was moments away from becoming flattened orc paste, he remained perfectly calm.

Except when he had a justified reason to torment someone, he was always this indifferent.

BOOOOM!

The entire cavern shook violently.

While dodging the body slam, Targon was struck by one of its wings, blasted through the wall, and sent flying outside.

The Wyvern immediately followed, bursting through the ceiling.

The final blow that finally destroyed the cavern that had barely remained standing.

‘It’s becoming dangerous.’

The Eclipse Wyvern had only landed that hit by chance, yet even that much was fatal for Level 5 explorers.

Even seemingly invincible Targon couldn’t remain an exception forever.

“…Golden Crow. We’ll be crushed.”

Still refusing to abandon his dream of winning the guild war, Kyras weakly tapped my ankle.

“Please wait.”

Before we could be buried beneath the collapsing rubble, I dragged the Conspirator outside.

By the time I finally struggled out, the Blind Crow returned… bringing the Western Continent dwarf I’d sent it to find.

“Sir Karr.”

Flapping his wings, Yallen landed beside me in a magnificent superhero pose.

Time was short, so I immediately explained.

“Right now, Sir Targon is holding back the Wyvern that has been strengthened to Level 7 all by himself.”

“If it’s the Guild Master, I’m sure he can do it! What do you need me to do?”

“Please install these at the locations I indicate.”

I handed him a set of ritual candles and ignition tools.

Apparently realizing exactly what I intended, Yallen frowned slightly.

“Well… I suppose I’ll just trust you.”

“Once you’re done, help Sir Targon hold off the Wyvern, and lure it into flying above the pile of rocks. Can you manage that?”

“Of course.”

Without asking another question, the vice guild master of the Western Continent dwarves immediately took off.

Toward the mountain of collapsed stone… what had once been the rocky hill.

ROOOOAR!

The Wyvern soared high… before diving straight downward.

CLAAANG!

The sound of hardened claws colliding with a weapon.

Targon had somehow blocked that crushing attack through sheer force.

I swallowed the last remaining [Lumerlan’s Sigh] and created an illusion.

[Your Mental Energy has completely run out!]

I know.

“…Did you call me?”

[Eyes That Whisper Falsehoods ] appeared.

It should only have been able to create illusions of people I’d already met.

Yet this time, it wore a face I’d never seen before.

Neatly combed hair. Orderly clothing. A face that somehow looked exhausted.

‘You seriously don’t know who that is? You should.’

‘That’s strange.”

“Master!”

The voice ringing beside my ear pulled my fading consciousness back.

Fiction had somehow become identical to me.

No… perhaps it had looked that way from the very beginning.

I wasn’t even sure what I was thinking anymore.

My head throbbed so badly that I didn’t want to think at all.

“…Falsethy. Help those two lure the Wyvern.”

“Got it!”

As the illusion wearing my appearance dashed away, I crawled up the mound of stones piled like a hill.

”Move a little faster,”

Yallen shouted something from atop the rubble.

Enraged, the Wyvern opened its mouth wide and charged.

”There’s no time left.”

Fiction repeatedly blocked its vision with an absurdly long tongue, causing the Wyvern to angrily take flight.

”We can’t keep it occupied much longer.”

I know, so stop rushing me.

ROOOAAARRR!!

As the Wyvern rampaged through the air…

“I offer this fireworks display to you, Solmiran.”

I calmly approached beneath it and unleashed [Death · Flame · Transformation] .

I aimed precisely at the tiny weak point that existed only while it was transformed into an Eclipse Wyvern… the exact center where light and darkness met on its abdomen. At maximum power.

FWOOOOSH!

Thanks to [Lumerlan’s Sigh] concealing my presence, the beast couldn’t dodge.

The flames engulfed it completely.

When the flow of yin and yang is interrupted, balance inevitably collapses.

If one overfeeds the “yang” aspect… the flames… into the Eclipse Wyvern’s weak point, the circulation temporarily breaks down, making its body unstable.

In gameplay terms, it inflicts the status ailment Imbalance, reducing its Soul Rank to 5 for thirty seconds. The difference was only two levels numerically, but in terms of actual levels, the gap was overwhelming.

KUUUOOO…!!

Its cry was completely different from before. Twisted. It was overreacting.

Naturally. Lriria, who sought to dye the world in gloomy twilight, was one of the deities whom Lumerlan, the God of Light and the Sun and Moon, had desperately tried to eradicate.

“So it has weakened a little!”

Targon leapt upward, bringing his halberd crashing into the back of its neck.

Once again… [Savage Battle Guillotine].

Unlike before, this time huge sections of the Wyvern’s scales were torn away, leaving a massive wound.

“Perfect.”

Yallen slashed repeatedly with both daggers, widening the wound even further.

Then Targon thrust his halberd deep inside.

BOOM!

An explosion caused by Targon’s Mystery erupted within its body.

Afflicted by Imbalance, the Eclipse Wyvern screamed in agony, rolling across the ground.

“Cut off its wings! Make it resemble a ‘Wyvern’ as little as possible!”

Falsethy shouted while enthusiastically drawing aggro with its tongue.

“Understood!”

“Guild Master, just a little more!”

Targon and Yallen poured every offensive Mystery they possessed into the creature’s wings.

The textbook strategy for defeating an Eclipse Wyvern.

Burst it down while it’s weakened.

CRACK!

Its weakened left wing was easily severed by Targon’s halberd.

Immediately afterward, Yallen’s space-skipping dagger technique cut off the right one as well.

‘Now don’t miss your chance. Quickly… Offer the prayer.’

Everything was ready.

The altar… the enormous pile of rocks that had once been the mountain.

The candles… already prepared by Yallen.

The living sacrifice, the Eclipse Wyvern, had nearly lost all traces of its original Light Wyvern form.

The offering ritual was complete.

“Okail.”

Guide of Cataclysmic Upheaval. I offered my prayer to the Evil God’s chief deity.

The contents were simple. Concise… yet containing everything important.

“Your meal is ready.”

The recipe’s name: Modified Wyvern.

A special living sacrifice offered to the Chaotic One, who preferred offerings whose appearance had completely diverged from their original form.

RATTLE…

An intense colorless aura burst from my right thigh.

A long chain materialized in midair, wrapping itself around the Eclipse Wyvern.

KUUUOOO!!

Only then did the Eclipse Wyvern finally recover from Imbalance, slamming its tail toward me.

“Hup!”

Yallen threw himself forward, barely deflecting the tail’s path.

“…Sir Karr. Finish it.”

Yallen collapsed beside me, his body disappearing.

“Thank you.”

As I lowered my head in gratitude, Okail’s chains completely enveloped the Wyvern.

Then…

CRUNCH. CRACK. SPLIT. SNAP. RIPPPP!

Inside the writhing chains, which twisted like living creatures, a series of horrifying, tearing noises echoed endlessly.

Bright blood. Dark blood. Both slowly seeped out through the gaps.

KUUOOO…!!

It was still resisting. Still struggling, trying to tear the chains apart.

SNAP!

Okail was still an Evil God. Compared to His prime, some of the chains… once absolutely unbreakable… finally snapped, allowing the Wyvern to force part of its body free.

If this continued, the offering ritual would be interrupted, and I’d simply be eaten alive by an enraged monster.

Which was exactly why I’d brought along an overwhelmingly powerful ally.

“Persistent.”

Targon drove his halberd, now blazing crimson, into the wound on the Wyvern’s neck.

His ultimate technique… combining no fewer than seven Mysteries.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!!

Shockwaves exploded outward.

Nearby rock formations shattered.

Even I was sent tumbling across the ground in an embarrassingly undignified roll.

Kro…

For a brief instant, the Wyvern lost all strength.

The chains swallowed it once more.

CRRRRUNCH!

That was the end.

【Excellent.】

When the size of the offering had diminished enough, the voice of the Evil God… worshipped by thousands of followers… echoed inside my head.

【I acknowledge… this special meal.】

Sir Okail especially loved offerings like the Eclipse Wyvern… whose appearance, and even Soul Rank, had completely diverged from their original state.

【State your reward.】

“[Illusion].”

【Granted.】

A sharp sting ran through my thigh. At the same time, Okail’s presence vanished.

The voices inside my mind, which had constantly spoken to me, also fell silent.

“……”

Slowly, I stood back up.

Where the chains had disappeared, a cube lay on the ground.

The item that allowed one to retrieve Lumerlan’s Orb, floating high above.

“Everyone.”

Using Truthie to locate a nearby broadcast crystal, I looked directly into it and spoke.

“If you believe in the Evil Gods, even monsters as powerful as that can be eliminated simply by offering them as sacrifices. Has your interest been piqued? Do you wish to embrace faith in the Evil Gods? If so, come find this cultist, Karr. We’ll have a light consultation together, and help you choose the deity you’ll spend the rest of your life serving.”

The glory of advertising at the moment, viewership was at its highest.

To be honest, this was half the reason I’d entered the Guild War in the first place.

“Moonlight Expedition. The expedition where I serve as expedition leader. One day, we’ll cause another incident just like today’s. So please keep an eye on us.”
