His Breeding Obsession Chapter 148 - Without Anyone Knowing

Author: Nikss

“Is everything okay? It looks delicious.”

Compared to her cautiousness, Truke was impatiently tearing into the turkey leg.

Minella clicked her tongue, but Truke was enjoying it so much, she couldn’t help herself. The children couldn’t stop wiping their mouths.

“God must have given us a gift.”

Truke was genuinely happy. He was a big man, much bigger than the others, and he ate a lot.

He rarely went hungry, so it was nice to be able to eat without worrying about others.

“Some idiot must have forgotten it, but we’re lucky anyway.”

The hungry children were already eating frantically. The food brought smiles to their faces.

Mirania stared at the food on the table.

She muttered to herself, ‘This is far too fine to have been picked up off the street.’

“I suppose it makes more sense that they found gold on the side of the road.”

Wigenia put her foot down and covered her mouth.

“Aren’t you going to eat? You said you were hungry.”

Wigenia’s eyes drooped.

“I’m sure it’s not poisoned, though I’m sure someone made a mistake, but still. I was very hungry, and I think that’s a good thing. Eat up, witch.”

Mirania took the bread from Wigenia’s hand, though she was wary.

The melting cream tantalized her taste buds as she popped it into her mouth. The bread was fresh and better than it looked.

Just like bread from the imperial palace’s baking oven.

“Hmph.”

💫

Mirania pulled out a large chair in the garden and sat down.

The mansion had blackout curtains, so it was hard to bask in the sun except in the yard.

Sitting on the couch like a sunbathing cat, Mirania relaxed in the sunlight and fluttered like a jellyfish.

The sun’s rays fell on her skin, making it glisten transparently.

Bam—

Professor Horus stepped out of the doorway and stopped in his tracks at the sight.

His heavy footsteps soon stopped beside Mirania.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go back to the palace?”

Mirania spoke up slowly, “You seem to want me to go back, don’t you?”

“Honestly, I do.”

Horus glanced down at Mirania.

No matter what he said, she was indifferent.

Yawn~

She even yawned. Her languor was contagious, and Horus’s expression relaxed, if only slightly.

“You seem to be in a good mood.”

“Not too bad.”

Horus was dumbfounded.

“What makes you think this is your home?”

“There is no place on this earth that I will not set foot.”

An arrogant reply. Taking it as her brazenness, not the truth, Horus’s face drained of all color.

“Hah. I expected you to return to the palace so that I might know what was going on there, but I didn’t expect you to stick around this long.”

“I like it here better than the palace. If you have any questions, ask. I have already told you much.”

‘If I go back to the palace, they’ll find out I’m a high witch, and I don’t want that yet.’

Horus shook his head.

“I’ve heard enough of what you’ve said. I’d rather hear about the children’s accomplishments. I hear Donnie is showing some talent.”

“Aye. The other two have no talent for magic, and their energy is hardly weak.”

“Did you say weak? I don’t think so.”

Mirania clicked her tongue as she thought of the other two children, except Donnie.

“Anyway, if they are weak, they will not succeed.”

“They don’t have to be a wizard. Just knowing can be powerful.”

Mirania shook her head in disbelief, then smirked.

“I see. That’s true, too. They can sense magic and are intelligent, so they must be good at something. I’m teaching them the magic circle.”

“…Thank you.”

It was an unexpected gesture. Mirania tilted her chin back to stare at Horus. Horus muttered, his face serious.

“What you are passing on is of great value to us, for most of the mages were wiped out in the catastrophe on the Plains of Razhul, and those who remain have no choice but to utilize the heritage that has been passed down.”

“It was your people’s knowledge in the first place, and I am only giving it back.”

“Still, without you, we would have no way of knowing.”

With that, Horus fell silent. Mirania smiled inwardly.

‘I wonder how long it took the scrawny human to come up with that.’

“Next time Donnie comes, I’m going to carve a magic circuit into him.”

Horus asked cautiously, “I thought you didn’t allow anyone to carve magic circuits.”

“I have a circle in my heart, so it shouldn’t be a problem to create a circuit. The mage who taught me human magic said that if you have enough magic to protect yourself, you can prevent the circuit from draining your life force. However, if you run out of magic, the circuitry can use your life force to make up the difference, so you’ll have to be careful not to overdo it.”

“I’ll be sure to be careful.”

Mirania was about to tell him to go if he had nothing else to say, but then she changed her mind.

“…Have you noticed anything strange lately?”

Horus shook his head.

“Not really, but what is it?”

“Nothing.”

Mirania waved her hands in the air in response to his curious gaze.

‘An intruder that even a swordsman of my caliber couldn’t detect. Am I overreacting?’

💫

The day arrived for Donnie to have the magic circuit engraved.

Donnie was both excited and nervous. The magic circuit on his body would be a painful process, as it would cut through his energy channels with magic.

“Carve it into the inside of my leg.”

Donnie smiled bitterly at Mirania’s puzzled expression.

“I don’t want Master Donaty to know.”

“Even though knowing how to do magic would help you fish?”

It was a lighthearted joke. Donnie pulled at the corners of his mouth.

“He’s afraid of thugs, and if he knew I’d learned magic, he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night for fear they’d come looking for him.”

“The thugs in the alley are keeping you up at night.”

Mirania clicked her tongue. While the lack of order was a major factor in the lawlessness of the Alleyways of the Capital, the presence of thugs like those in the streets played a small part.

After all, disorder and chaos are what gave rise to thugs in the first place.

“I’m ready, witch.”

Donnie had stripped down to his pants, leaving only his underwear.

Halfway between a boy and a man, he stood as tall as a man but as thin as a boy whose limbs hadn’t been fed enough.

Donnie’s eyes were tense and determined.

“In the old days, it wouldn’t have been so hard, but it’s a bit much for me now.”

Folding her arms in thought, Mirania glanced out at the quiet room.

“I think I’ll keep Wigenia here, just in case. If something goes wrong, I need someone to deal with it.”

“Okay. I’ll be waiting.”

Mirania left the room and went to find Wigenia.

Wigenia was waiting nearby, worried about Donnie, so she quickly answered Mirania’s call.

“It’s not hard, just tell me if you think Donnie is in too much pain while you’re engraving the circuit. The circuit can be engraved another time, so… hmm?”

Mirania paused as she and Wigenia entered Donnie’s room.

A sense of foreboding clung to her skin like dampness.

‘What is it?’

Wigenia rushed past her as she paused.

“Donnie, are you sick?”

Shaking off the strange sensation, Mirania turned to look at Donnie.

His face, which had been so normal earlier, was gaunt and haggard. He looked like he’d seen a ghost.

“What happened?”

Donnie, pale as if his soul had been sucked out of his body, stroked his forehead with the back of his hand and shook his head.

“Oh, nothing, I guess I’m just nervous about carving the circuit, and I’ve been having trouble sleeping at night, and I keep hearing voices…”

“Don’t worry. Smith said so himself, you can bear it.”

A relieved Wigenia smiled warmly and patted Donnie on the shoulder.

Donnie, barely recovering his complexion, returned a grateful smile.

Mirania, who had been watching the scene from a foot away, glanced around the room.

Wrapped tightly in blackout cloth and lit only by candlelight, the room was dim, the unventilated air stale.

Mirania’s gaze sharpened, ‘This is the kind of place where it wouldn’t be strange if something was hiding.’

Mirania glanced around the room once more, then back at the true Donnie.

“If that’s all right, let’s get started.”

Carving the circuitry into the leg went smoothly.

Wigenia glanced away, embarrassed by Donnie’s near-adult state in his underwear, but Mirania was not the least bit embarrassed.

Donnie’s skinny legs were like statues made of wood chips, and his impassive eyes drew circuits across the skin.

Mirania drew her finger slowly, and its trajectory left a red line on Donnie’s inner thigh.

A solid red line that threatened to bleed. Red droplets of blood spurted out like red kernels bursting from a ripe pomegranate.
