“Perhaps you’ve spent too much time contemplating the meaning of the Saintess’s existence because Ruben hasn’t appeared all this time. To make such a ridiculous claim.”

While the Saintess was lost in thought as she looked at Dazar, he lowered his eyes lazily and let out a derisive chuckle.

“A ridiculous claim?”

The Saintess retorted in an offended voice, and Dazar leaned comfortably against the back of his chair and crossed one leg over the other.

“I understand that you’ve been suspicious of me at every turn for quite some time, and now that Ruben’s followers have suddenly started moving, you’re getting anxious.”

“……Their movements are different from before.”

She was right, just as Dazar said.

Ever since signs of movement from Ruben’s followers had begun to appear recently, the Saintess had been growing increasingly anxious.

Of course, even if Ruben himself did not appear, Ruben’s followers had always been active throughout history.

But never on this scale.

The Saintess answered in a slightly quieter voice, and Dazar shrugged.

“Fine. Let’s say they’re different. Before that, why do you think Transcendents exist in the first place? Being suspicious of me means you’re questioning the will of God, doesn’t it?”

“…….”

“You were trying to capture Ruben’s followers with the cooperation of the Imperial Family, and when you saw me, you thought it was a good opportunity.”

Dazar crossed his arms and tilted his head slightly to the side.

His emotionless voice and expressionless face were rather intimidating.

But the Saintess, who had been engaged in confrontations like this with him for a long time, did not back down.

“If I were certain that you were a follower of Ruben, I wouldn’t have brought you to a room like this.”

The moment they became certain, they would have taken him straight to a cramped and miserable underground prison.

“His Majesty must be tired, too. He can’t exactly refuse the temple’s ridiculous demands, but neither can he turn a perfectly normal Transcendent into a traitor.”

He had probably only pretended to comply with the temple’s demands and sent Morocanil to make it look convincing.

‘But that guy deliberately acted even more imposing in front of Cilia, as if I really were a traitor.’

Remembering Morocanil’s stiff expression, Dazar narrowed his eyes.

That guy, who never showed any emotion. It was strange.

Why had he deliberately acted that way in front of Cilia?

But now was not the time to dwell on this matter.

Dazar casually opened his mouth.

“So. How much longer do I have to give you? If you made me stay here for several days intending to drain my strength, you’ve made a mistake. It’s boring, but honestly, it’s nice to rest like this for the first time in a while.”

The Saintess gritted her teeth at his words.

There was definitely something about him, but she could not figure out what it was.

Something, something……

“Why did you bring Lady Evanroar into the estate? Food development doesn’t necessarily have to be done at the estate, does it?”

“……Ha.”

Dazar sighed as though her question were absurd.

“Do I even have to disclose even my private affairs to the temple?”

“Well, of course, because you’re a Transcendent……”

“A Transcendent.”

Dazar sharply cut her off and tilted his head as he casually said,

“Can’t a Transcendent bring a woman he likes into his own home? That’s strange. Even my biological mother, who died young, seemed to have been in love with my father to some extent. So I’m the exception?”

“……!”

At Dazar’s sudden confession, the Saintess’s eyes widened.

A man who had never had a single scandal and had kept an absolute wall between himself and the nobles was suddenly talking about a woman he liked?

Genuinely flustered, the Saintess pressed her lips together.

Dazar grinned without the slightest hint of embarrassment and continued.

“So don’t touch that woman. Don’t even take an interest in her. I mean everything about her. Her family, her child, even what she eats and wears. Nothing. Don’t involve yourself with any of it.”

“…….”

While the Saintess stammered in confusion, Dazar rose from his seat.

“The period of confinement His Majesty allowed is over now, right? If I rest here any longer, His Majesty will get angry. I’ll be going back.”

With those words, Dazar walked past the Saintess and left the room.

Left alone, the Saintess blinked blankly, feeling as though she had just been struck on the back of the head.

Dazar…… in love?

That cold-blooded man?

That was impossible.

“Where did he come up with such a lie……”

The Saintess, who had been muttering to herself, suddenly stopped.

Come to think of it, she had heard that Dazar had defended Cilia Evanroar during this Hall of Rest as well.

“Could it really be true?”

She murmured in disbelief and blinked.

“Was that lie a bit too much?”

Perhaps he had been unable to control his emotions very well after coming face-to-face with the person directly responsible for having him locked in a small room for several days and preventing him from moving freely.

“So what?”

I suffered more than enough because of her.

Dazar snorted.

‘That woman’s ears must be itching quite a bit.’

His slightly stiff expression relaxed as he thought of her.

The thought of Cilia scratching her ears while wondering why they were itching amused him.

Then his expression hardened again.

‘I brought her into the estate because I intended to keep Ruben nearby. I didn’t realize it would arouse suspicion from those temple people.’

He thought of the small baby who carried the fate of the world’s survival on his shoulders.

Then he thought of the woman holding that baby.

The protector of this world’s Ruben was incredibly powerful.

She was standing in the way of Ruben’s fate so thoroughly that Dazar himself hardly needed to make any effort.

In the previous world, Ruben seemed to have been cast aside immediately after being born to his parents and had followed the standard path of an unhappy life.

Remembering the red bird that had not shown itself since he was captured, Dazar slowly opened and closed his eyes.

‘And it’s surprising that she brought in a new food source, too.’

Thanks to that, he had found a good excuse to keep Ruben close.

He had thought that would be enough.

But the temple people were quite perceptive.

‘……As long as it doesn’t interfere with what comes next.’

What did he mean by making sure nothing interfered?

Just as the Saintess had suspected, Dazar was harboring a tremendous secret.

But whatever it was, Dazar had absolutely no intention of revealing it to anyone.

Gathering away every emotion that had appeared on his face, Dazar slipped both hands into his trouser pockets and sauntered down the Imperial Palace corridor.

He continued straight down the corridor, and just as he turned toward the passage on the right—

Dazar suddenly stopped.

“What are you doing there?”

To anyone watching, it would have looked as though he were talking to himself in an empty space.

But Dazar continued speaking as though someone were standing beside him.

“Did you come to see me off?”

No sooner had he finished speaking than the shadow on the wall, cast by sunlight streaming through the window, gently trembled.

Then two figures appeared.

Morocanil and Scarlett.

“Hmm. That’s right. I came out to see you off.”

Scarlett gave an awkward smile and slightly raised her hand in greeting.

Dazar’s eyebrow twitched.

“Ah. How glorious. His Majesty has personally come to see me off. This is truly such an honor that I can’t help but clench my fist.”

Dazar slowly raised his tightly clenched fist, and Scarlett cleared her throat loudly.

“Ahem! Ahem!”

She subtly took a step back.

“Why are you moving away? Did you perhaps think I was going to give His Majesty a flick on the forehead like I used to?”

“Ah, no.”

She had, in fact, remembered Dazar daring to flick the forehead of her younger self, who had once been a princess.

But Scarlett firmly denied it.

Her pride was at stake.

‘Childhood memories really do leave a mark.’

Dazar unclenched his fist and abruptly turned his head away as if he did not even want to look in that direction.

Once his gaze was no longer on her, Scarlett pretended to brush dust off her clothes while subtly rubbing her forehead.

Her forehead was safe.

Of course.

Now that she had ascended the Imperial throne, there was no way he would flick her forehead.

No, it was something that could never happen in the relationship they now had as sovereign and subject.

Unless he really was plotting treason against her as a follower of Ruben.

‘……Treason.’

The sensitive word flashed through Scarlett’s mind, and she clenched her fist before opening it again.

Before the Hall of Rest began, the Saintess had personally requested an audience with her at the temple.

‘What kind of ridiculous nonsense is this? Dazar, a follower of Ruben?’

The Saintess, dressed entirely in white, had stared into empty space with unfocused eyes as she answered.

‘Why do you think it’s impossible? He is a Transcendent of the Siaster family. Among the Transcendents, he is the one most frequently exposed to demonic energy, and he is dangerous.’

‘……But Dazar isn’t weak enough to be consumed by demonic energy. Besides, he is a Transcendent who remembers his previous life.’

‘That makes him even more dangerous.’

The Saintess had said that and revealed information that was enough to shake Scarlett.

‘The Master of the Magic Tower is beside Dazar. He has been passing information about Dazar to me. According to him, Dazar recently eliminated a demon who knew the location of Ruben.’

‘What……?’

‘Without even trying to find Ruben. You’ve never heard a report like this, have you?’

She hadn’t.

Scarlett felt the relationship with Dazar, which she had believed to be unshakable, begin to waver.

Why hadn’t he reported the demon to her?

Scarlett slowly parted her lips as she looked at Dazar, whose face was full of irritation.

“Dazar. I have an order for you.”

“……What is it?”

Dazar narrowed his eyes as he looked at Scarlett’s serious expression.

‘Then keep Dazar Siaster in the Imperial Palace for a while. Tell him it was because you couldn’t refuse the temple’s request. And make sure to settle this matter so that we never have to hear such ridiculous claims from the temple again.’

Scarlett tightened her lips and said,

“The temple is suspicious of you. As your sovereign and…… as your childhood friend who has been with you your entire life, I cannot simply stand by and watch.”

“…….”

“So let’s have Morocanil stay with you as your monitor and make certain that there is absolutely nothing to be suspicious of.”

“Your Majesty……!”

Dazar’s expression twisted even further.

Scarlett knew that expression well.

It was the face he made right before he exploded.

Scarlett abruptly turned away from Dazar.

She heard him call her name, but there was no way he could grab her.

‘Even His Majesty hasn’t completely stopped suspecting him, has she?’

The Saintess’s voice seemed to echo in Scarlett’s ears as she walked down the corridor.
