The Prosecutor’s Office’s Proposal Chapter 199
The granddaughter’s eyes were full of fatigue and annoyance as she turned her face. The power dynamic, with me sitting and her looking down at me, was fine, too. I wanted to make the other party forget that the questions I was throwing out were an interrogation.
“By any chance, do you know if your grandmother knows how to open a cork stopper?”
“Yes. Why?”
“I asked to be sure about something.”
The granddaughter didn’t seem satisfied with my vague answer, but she took weary steps as if she didn’t want to be involved in this situation any longer. Thanks to that, one hypothesis was eliminated. The two soon left the prosecutor’s office.
The grandmother couldn’t walk properly down the branch office hallway. It would have been better to go to the hospital one more time with the money spent on Yeongsaengsu, but she wouldn’t have been able to buy hope at a hospital. Because no one would tell her that she wouldn’t be sick ever again. So, I didn’t want to criticize her easily, but the granddaughter, who must be worried about her grandmother’s situation, felt very pitiable. I felt like I knew what her heart must be feeling.
I watched the granddaughter’s slumped shoulders as she supported her grandmother, then closed the door and came back in.
It was past 8 o’clock; I finished the statement and shut down my laptop. As soon as I closed the laptop, Prosecutor Joo grabbed my hand and led me back to the auxiliary office. Before I could even think of the reason, I heard the click of the door locking, and my back touched the steel cabinet behind me. I could feel the breathless intensity of his presence, so I hurriedly gripped the hem of his jacket to push him away, but he didn’t budge like a giant wall. His knees slid between my legs, and our lips met while our lower bodies remained pressed together.
“Ah….”
He held me as if pressing me down, and we kissed with our bodies completely touching. His hot tongue pushed into my mouth, softly sucking on my flesh again and again. His body temperature felt searingly hot—all the more so because the chill of late autumn was drifting through the auxiliary office.
It was difficult to accept him as he pressed his weight down on me and searched and delved even more persistently, so I found myself hanging on by wrapping my arms around his neck. It was hard to support my own body. The feeling of his now-hardened bulge pressing against my stomach was stimulating, and even though I knew he wouldn’t cross the line further while at the office, my cheeks flushed red with heat from the tension. The tongues that had been tangled together, making wet sounds, parted.
“Chaeha, try to relax your body.”
Repeating the act of sucking on my wet lips and kissing me, he slid his nose down to my neck. I almost let out a moan at the hot tongue moving along my neckline. Knowing it was my weak spot, he would always lick my neck or ears and watch me tremble, trying my best to calm down. His tongue lightly swept over my upper teeth, which I was biting down on to keep from moaning.
I barely managed to straighten the fingers that had been gripping his jacket to push his chest away. Of course, he didn’t move an inch.
“Let’s do it… when we get home.”
“You know I’m struggling and can’t wait until then.”
His hot breath, still feeling impatient, brushed past the soft hair on my cheek. Our wet lips met again, and eventually, I closed my eyes.
In truth, there hasn’t been a single day where we missed kissing in the auxiliary office before leaving work. I sometimes forget, but Joo Taeson always remembered. Even though we would arrive home in an hour and find each other’s lips again, even though we would be pressed against each other whether we had sex or not, he couldn’t let that brief moment pass by.
His tongue, pushing in with a weight that was almost too much to bear, repeatedly rubbed the spots it had licked and softly tangled with mine. His large hand snaked into my shirt and stroked my bare waist. My body shivered.
Trying to swallow, I barely sucked on his thick tongue, then caught his jacket again with fingers that had been wandering in the air. Prosecutor Joo pressed down on my sensitized body with his weight, kissed my cheek, and buried his nose there. Breathing in and out as if sniffing my scent, he muttered.
“I don’t know how I manage to hold back all day with you right in front of me.”
His low voice whispered in my ear.
“If I let go just a little more, I could take you right here.”
“Hut….”
The breath hitting my ear made it feel like all the skin on my body was rising. I squeezed my eyes shut and bowed my head slightly, and he pressed his body closer. His thick fingertips lifted my chin. His lips, licking my eyelashes and kissing my eyelids, were hot.
“Chaeha, is it hard to hold back the moans?”
Unable to keep my lips shut due to the sultry feeling, I nodded my head frantically to affirm. Even back when we did it at the government residence with a necktie in my mouth, I couldn’t really hold back my moans properly. Let alone here, I couldn’t risk the danger of a workplace with such poor soundproofing.
He let out a light sigh and finally pulled his lips away, then lightly wiped around my chin, which was wet from the traces of our kiss, with his finger.
“I don’t really intend to do it here, I just asked because I was agonizing.”
“You weren’t really going to do it?”
I opened my eyes with difficulty and asked back, and he thought for a moment before shaking his head.
“You don’t do things where you could lose out.”
Only after pushing the tip of his nose against mine did he finally pull away from me. I was pressing down on my flushed cheeks with the back of my hand, barely calming down, when my phone rang loudly in my pocket. It was a call from Detective Ma.
It was only after taking several deep breaths that I found the courage to answer, and I slid the button.
“Hello, Detective Ma.”
— Yes, Investigator. You’re on duty for the corpse case today, right?
“Yes. Has a body been discovered?”
— That’s correct. It seems you need to come right away. Can you contact Prosecutor Joo Taeson?
“He is right next to me, working overtime at the branch office.”
— That’s good. I think the Prosecutor needs to know who died as well.
“Should I put it on speaker?”
— Yes, I would appreciate that.
I switched the call to speaker and asked Detective Ma.
“Who died?”
— It is Lee Mooncheol, the Yeongsaengsu suspect.
I almost dropped my phone.
The suspect we missed had been found dead. This was a disaster.
Prosecutor Joo reacted immediately.
“Detective, this is Joo Taeson. What is the cause of death?”
— Judging by the bright red color of his lips, it seems he ingested cyanide.
“I will head there now.”
— Yes, Prosecutor.
As soon as we hung up, we looked into each other’s eyes. Lee Mooncheol was dead. Not only did we miss the suspect, but now the suspect had turned up dead; this was a crisis.
“Should I contact Prosecutor Yoon Gyuho?”
“…Since we are on duty for the autopsy, there’s no need to. It won’t be too late to tell him tomorrow.”
“But still.”
“He is the suspect he missed.”
“Are you worried he might try to bury unfavorable facts?”
“He’s not a bad guy, but he’s not a good one, either. He’s perfectly capable of twisting the direction in his favor. There’s no procedural problem if we go and grasp the situation first and let him know tomorrow.”
“What becomes a problem is not procedure, but ethics. It is Prosecutor Yoon Gyuho’s case.”
I know Joo Taeson doesn’t trust anyone, but sometimes he went too far. Even in my eyes. This was one of those times. He hesitated for a moment but soon seemed to make up his mind and shook his head.
“Contact him tomorrow. If we intervene first, we might be able to notice if he tries to pull any nonsense later.”
I was about to follow Prosecutor Joo out when I bumped my face into his back after he suddenly stopped. Just as I was about to protest, a soft touch brushed through my hair.
“No, wait. Shall I just tell Yoon Gyuho to go perform the autopsy on the corpse?”
“Why….”
I lifted my head to ask back, but closed my lips when I realized the reason. After making eye contact for a moment, I pushed his back with both hands.
“Don’t say things you don’t mean and let’s go, Prosecutor Joo Taeson.”
“I’m serious.”
“You’re just going to give this case to Prosecutor Yoon as it is? Just because you can’t wait a few hours?”
“Yeah, I suddenly don’t want to work.”
“Wow, those words really don’t suit you, Joo Taeson.”
The thought in my head slipped out as the truth before I could stop it. That those words—that he’s sick of work—could come out of the mouth of a workaholic. Especially since he does it almost every day, to say he can’t wait a few hours.
It’s just astonishing in many ways. He asked back with a playful smile.
“Why?”
“It sounded like Seong-woo came and dubbed it. It didn’t suit you at all.”
“You still call me ‘Prosecutor’ more even at home. Are you calling me by my name suddenly?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t know why I get so turned on when you just call my name like that.”
