Ilya Special Story: The Honeymoon That Wouldn’t End

After the mark of corruption disappeared, Ilya became an ordinary archangel and created a new identity in the human world: Ilya Altair, a nobleman from the North. As soon as he appeared in the capital, he made a name for himself with his exceptional knowledge of magic and quickly established himself.

Last summer, Ilya married Theresa. People didn’t find it strange that the two, both so passionate about magic research, ended up together.

Birds of a feather flock together. That was the public opinion. Though, in truth, this was a slightly unfair assessment of the two.

Lately, they had been far more devoted to another kind of research than magic. Specifically, developing a remedy for morning sickness. Their reason for being so serious about morning sickness medicine was simple: Theresa was pregnant. Despite expecting that pregnancy would be impossible even with a soul-bond because they were of different species, she got pregnant only half a year after marriage.

Ilya watched Theresa closely as she sniffed the food in front of her after taking the morning sickness medicine.

“…It still makes me a little queasy, but this is the most effective one yet,” Theresa said, and for the first time in ages, she was able to eat without worrying about throwing up.

Ilya was relieved, but also frustrated that the medicine still wasn’t perfect.

“If only there were a way to bring medicine from Earth, but that’s impossible.”

Beings who could cross dimensions were rare, and for Theresa, it would have been a heavy burden. Now, it was even more impossible.

“Especially since I’m pregnant.”

A wizard never uses magic while pregnant since it’s dangerous for the baby. So, for the past two weeks since realizing she was pregnant, Theresa had been living as an ordinary human.

Ilya felt a deep sense of guilt at having made his wife pregnant without adequate preparation. How could he be such a fool? For someone who always accounted for every variable, this was an unthinkable mistake. If he’d known pregnancy was possible, he’d have made all the necessary preparations in advance. Not that there was any point in regretting it now.

“I should have been more careful, but I’ve ended up making you suffer.” Ilya sighed and gently stroked Theresa’s thin cheek.

Theresa looked at him as if he were talking nonsense. “This was impossible to predict. And no matter how much you prepare, pregnancy is never going to be easy.”

“That’s true.”

To anyone else, it might have sounded like a cold, clinical conversation.

Theresa stroked her belly, as if trying to sense the presence of the baby she never would have known about if not for the morning sickness. “But I think I’m even happier because it was so unexpected.” A pure, bright smile appeared on her face. The look of wonder and joy on her face was contagious, and Ilya found himself smiling too.

At first, Ilya thought Theresa was sick and called for a doctor, only to be shocked at the news she was pregnant. It was then that Ilya realized he was capable of such utter confusion.

“It was the same for me.” He placed his hand gently over her belly and kissed her temple. “If it weren’t for you, I’d never have had such an unbelievable experience in my life.”

Oh, you don’t have to go that far…”

Finding his shy wife adorable, he kissed her cheek and then checked her plate. She was definitely eating more than before, though still not as much as he’d like.

I need to improve the medicine even more.

As Theresa leaned languidly against him, Ilya gently stroked her and kissed her forehead. “Shall we go for a walk?”

Theresa nodded, and the two strolled around the small garden of their home. Their house, surrounded by a white fence, exuded a tranquility that didn’t quite fit their status and fame.

“Should we hang a swing from that tree? I think the baby would like it.”

“I’ll set one up.”

“And maybe change the tea table for something more suitable for the baby. The current one is just right for the two of us.”

“I’ve already commissioned a furniture maker, so it should arrive soon.”

Ilya answered one after another without even looking at where she was pointing—he only had eyes for Theresa.

“Careful.”

When Theresa nearly stumbled, she found herself swept into his arms. It wasn’t a big stumble—she could have caught herself—but he fussed over her anyway.

“You don’t have to go that far, you know?”

“Well, you’ll just have to get used to it.”

Ilya began methodically planning what needed to be done. I should redo all the paths in the garden. Or maybe he should build a whole new house.

Since this was the first time an angel and a human had conceived a child together, who knew what kind of baby would be born? If it were an ordinary human baby, there would be a lot to prepare.

I don’t even know what kind of race the baby will be.

It would be a problem if the baby were human, and a big problem if it were an angel.

Except for special cases like Ilya himself, it was always best for a child to be raised among their own kind. Angels can’t truly understand humans, and humans can’t truly understand angels. He was no different. He had never intended to understand humans or to blend into their society.

Everything Ilya did was solely for Theresa: things she liked, things that benefited her, things that made her happy. All his attention was focused entirely on Theresa. But if the baby turned out to be human, he would need to change his thinking to some extent.

They’ll have to live with humans.

However, if the baby were born an angel, it would be even more complicated, as it would be impossible to raise it in heaven. Though Ilya had long ago given up his dream of destroying heaven, he still hated the place.

While Ilya was lost in these thoughts, Theresa suddenly spoke up. “What should we call the baby?”

“Didn’t we decide on Butterfly last time?”

“That was just temporary. You can’t actually call a baby’ Butterfly.’”

“…”

Ilya recalled that the candidates had been Miracle, Butterfly, Strong, and Gift. None of them sounded like real names. For someone with such a poor understanding of humans, even coming up with a prenatal name felt unnecessary. But this baby is just a baby—their baby. But I suppose it would be convenient to have something to call the baby for now.

“Have you thought of any names?”

Though Ilya didn’t understand humans well, he instinctively knew this was a moment to choose his words carefully.

“Grape.”

“Grape?”

“It’s because you started your morning sickness right after eating grapes.”

Theresa looked up at him as if asking, ‘Are you serious?’

Maybe it’s not going to work.

Ilya thought he’d come up with a name on the same level as hers, but apparently he’d missed the mark.

“Looks like even Lord Ilya has things you’re not good at.”

The prenatal name Grape was rejected.

There was still plenty of time before the baby would be born. But to Ilya, there were far more urgent issues than picking a prenatal name.

“By the way, Theresa, how long are you going to keep calling me that?”

“…I still feel awkward calling you ‘honey’.”

“Does being husband and wife still feel strange to you?” He gently stroked her belly and teased, “Even though we already have a baby on the way?”

“Alright, I’ll get used to it. I’ll try.”

Their dating period had been very short—by design, as Ilya had planned everything from the moment he created his new identity in the human world until their marriage. They’d barely had time to go from lovers to spouses before, half a year into their honeymoon, Theresa became pregnant. For Theresa, who tended to take things slow, the rapid changes were almost overwhelming.

Looking shy, Theresa hesitated and then spoke. “Honey.”

“Excellent student.”

Ilya smiled and kissed her. Theresa naturally accepted his kiss. She didn’t mind if his kisses wandered from her lips to her cheek, her forehead, anywhere.

Ilya never left his beloved wife alone, holding her close at every moment. If anything, there were more kisses than conversations between them.

Mmm…”

The brief, casual kisses soon deepened. With her back against the tree, Theresa shared a passionate kiss with Ilya. Ilya gripped the tree instead of Theresa.

All that talk about angels being rational was nonsense. In his experience, angels could be just as wildly, irrationally passionate as humans when it came to desire. It was just that falling in love was harder for an angel, but once they did, they became even more hopeless and dangerous than humans. Their bodies were fundamentally different from those of humans, and, having never felt such impulses before, they had no idea how to control these powerful new desires.

To love a fragile human as an angel was almost a punishment. Ilya had to exercise inhuman self-control at every moment. His wife was so much weaker than he was—if he wasn’t careful, he could break her. Even now, he was gripping the tree so tightly not to hurt Theresa that he left deep marks in the bark.

But what could he do? By the time he realized how deeply in love he was, there was no going back. Not that he’d ever wanted to go back in the first place.

Barely managing to stop, Ilya gazed into Theresa’s eyes. Unconcealed love glimmered in her silvery gray eyes. Looking at her, with the same look of being hopelessly in love, made him feel even crazier.

“…As expected, I really should have been more careful.”

He could use a few more days of this sweet honeymoon. Though he wasn’t sure when this honeymoon would ever end.

Theresa found his occasional, unexpectedly vulnerable moments utterly adorable.

“At least we’ll get to meet the baby that much sooner.”

“Can’t argue with that.” Ilya chuckled, then suddenly thought of a good prenatal name. “How about Love for the baby’s name.”

“Love?”

“I can’t think of anything more fitting.”

Theresa considered it and then nodded.

At least that one got approved.

Unable to hold back anymore, Ilya kissed her all over her face, then whispered in her ear, “Love, shall we go inside with Dad?”

“Love can’t hear you yet, you know?”

“Love’s mom is so mean.”

Oh, please.”

The two burst out laughing as they went back inside. After that, it was only natural that their house became filled with the word ‘Love’.

  1. That’s so short. Also i wish the side stories were continuations of the original story. I didn’t like how Euges lost his memories of he and Theresa in the dungeon with a child Cecilia or how Ilya is basically a whole different guy

  2. LMAO, Ilya didnt waste any time and got theresa pregnant in just a half a year after the wedding

  3. Sigh. Ilya and Euges were my favorites because of the relationship and character development they had (Clyde’s actual relationship *with* Theresa never felt fully developed before his trans-dimensional disappearance, so him being the true ML didn’t work for me), but although Euges’ au was ok, Ilya’s is just a letdown. For all of the relationship development during the main story that made me believe they could be good together, this was like a half-baked outline of a side story. Sadness.
