Teme’s Spear pierced precisely through the devil’s back and through its solar plexus. In the process, one wing was also pierced. The darkness undulating on the devil’s body rippled.

The darkness swelled greatly and then shrank, finally allowing the dot of the sun to be seen clearly. It was a dragon. Erendil had come riding a dragon carriage.

The devil, impaled by the spear, fell to the ground faster than I did. I don’t know how Erendil appeared at this moment. However, judging by Faorn’s signal, it must have been planned.

Anyway, there’s no need to be curious about that. Not right now, at least. I regained my balance and turned my body.

‘Quickly…!’

It was the same for coordinating the bodies of the other Sword Masters. We descended towards the ground where the devil had fallen, swinging our swords.

Four Sword Energies were fired towards the fallen devil. The Sword Energies of different colors momentarily obscured the darkness.

Baang-! As soon as the Sword Energy hit, dirt and dust scattered. It seemed like the ground was surging up. There were also dark masses among it.

But it’s too early to let our guard down. We didn’t relax our tension and poured out Sword Energy again as we rushed towards it.

Kung-! Once again, I drove away the scattering dirt and dust with winds. In the instantly cleared view, the devil impaled by the spear was in tatters.

We stabbed our swords at it from four directions. Its frowning eyes captured me for a moment, then quickly turned towards the sky.

‘Even faster…!’

It seemed to be trying to pull some trick. The distance was right in front of us, but it didn’t feel good. In an instant, I moved as my instinct dictated.

I swung Moonlight towards the sky, not at the devil. The full moon that had led me to become a Sword Master bloomed.

However, it seemed to be a beat late. A strand of darkness headed towards the sky. It could be called a black beam. I did manage to cut it.

The full moon only cut the front part of the beam. Part of the darkness stem that I couldn’t cut in time surged towards the sky, towards the dragon.

A Sword Master’s Sword Energy can cut most things. That sharpness was enough to cut the tattered devil. Leaving behind a chilling cutting sound, I flew up into the sky.

To chase after the darkness beam. I fired Sword Energy, but it didn’t reach. It was on a different level from the previous attacks. Was this the devil’s full power?

‘Please…’

The difference in speed was stark, to the point where I couldn’t dare to catch up. I prayed desperately as I watched the receding darkness beam. For Erendil to be safe.

And soon, the darkness pierced through the dragon in the sky. The rider tried to avoid it, but it was already too late.

I surged upwards with all my might. And for a moment, it felt like my memory had disappeared. Fragmented scenes remained like slow motion.

The dragon’s scream was distant, and the dragon’s red blood scattering as it fell from the sky was vivid. I didn’t think about the falling rider.

I think I just opened the carriage door on the back of the falling dragon. Or did I break it, or was it already broken by the beam? I’m not sure.

However, from the moment I saw Erendil holding onto the handle with all her might inside the upside-down carriage, my senses returned.

And fortunately, Rudehrn was also in the carriage. He was holding Erendil’s other hand. Erendil and Rudehrn looked at me as if they had been waiting.

“Your Majesty!”

“Sch-Schurtafen!”

Sound returned. Of course, it was only faintly transmitted due to the wind noise on top of the falling dragon. I first extended my hand while protecting Erendil with winds.

Erendil grasped my hand, and I pulled her body and lightly embraced her.

“Are you alright?”

“I am unharmed.”

“I’ll take you down!”

“Please do.”

The rest was nothing special. I coordinated Erendil and Rudehrn with winds. All I did was catch the rider who was about to crash to the ground with winds and bring him down.

I examined Erendil’s body as soon as we landed. There were no visible wounds.

“Your Majesty, are you really alright?”

“I’m fine. I’m perfectly fine except for hitting my shoulder against the wall as the dragon fell.”

Erendil said that and looked at me with curious eyes.

“I’ve always been worried about you, but it’s interesting to see you show such concern.”

Seeing her smile as she said that, I was truly convinced she was fine. I let out a sigh of relief.

“This is no time for jokes. You were in danger.”

“That’s true, but I don’t think this is so bad either.”

The Sword Masters who were on the ground rushed over hurriedly. Except for Denif. Just in case, he was in the middle of confirming the kill by repeatedly stabbing the devil with his sword wrapped in Sword Energy.

“Your Majesty! Are you alright?”

“I’m fine. Schurtafen has confirmed it, so don’t make a fuss.”

“We apologize. It was our oversight.”

Anyway, the dragon carriage the emperor was riding was hit. Of course, even if it was hard to block, this was our mistake. As Faorn bowed his head, Erendil shook her head as if to say not to mind.

“How could that be your fault? It’s because the opponent was a devil. If anything, I should have kept more distance. The fault is more mine.”

Although Erendil had become the emperor, she showed higher respect for Faorn, who had been her grandfather’s knight. Faorn breathed a sigh of relief.

“No, we should have been more careful.”

Faorn said that and turned to look at me.

“Schurtafen had foreseen the attack. Thank you, sir. I’m ashamed. If it weren’t for you, Her Majesty… might have been in even more danger.”

“Why, did Schurtafen do something again?”

Erendil asked with a face full of curiosity, despite having just been in a life-threatening situation.

“Just before we were about to finish off the devil, Schurtafen alone cut the black beam that was heading towards the sky.”

“Oh, is that so?”

I was a bit bewildered by Erendil’s lack of crisis awareness. Can she feel curiosity about me saving her rather than the fact that she almost died?

“It looked at me and then looked at the sky. The signs were strange, and since there were three other Sword Masters, I blocked above. I’m sorry I was a bit late.”

“No, if you hadn’t blocked it, I might have really died. Thank you.”

“Rather, I should thank Your Majesty. It was you who saved me in the moment of crisis.”

“Was it? That’s good. I was worried the whole way back that we might be too late.”

Erendil gave me a faint smile, then turned her gaze towards the rider who had been driving the dragon.

“Are you alright, sir?”

“Yes, Your Majesty. I’m fine. Thanks to Lord Schurtafen supporting me…”

The expression of the rider saying this was a bit subtle. Should I say he was looking at me with somewhat wistful eyes?

Hmm, come to think of it, I think I might have made eye contact with the rider when I was out of it earlier.

I’m not sure, but if that’s true, he must have been asking me for help. However, at that time, it wasn’t a situation where I could pay attention to that.

The safety of the emperor and the rider driving the dragon carriage were in completely incomparable realms.

“By the way, how did you get here? Honestly, I was surprised. I didn’t expect you to come.”

“There was a lot of opposition.”

Erendil gave a bitter smile. That was an expected part. It’s natural to worry about the emperor’s departure. Moreover, nothing was certain about this matter.

While I had hoped for the empire’s cooperation, it was also why I hadn’t even thought of Erendil’s support.

It wasn’t pre-arranged. It was just a thought that maybe we could use the situation of me being chased by the devil in reverse, based on Terka’s words.

Moreover, even the assumption that I would lure the devil was uncertain from the empire’s standpoint.

“However, Count Campbell said that if we were going to provide support, we should do it properly. I thought the same.”

I found myself nodding involuntarily. In fact, sending three Sword Masters was uncertain. As I saw earlier, fighting in the air is difficult.

Even if we matched the numbers, there was no guarantee of victory.

And in reality, the defeat of three Sword Masters in a situation like this is synonymous with the defeat of the empire.

If that’s the case, they must have judged it better to make sure, even if it meant taking a bit more risk.

Considering Campbell, who told me to self-destruct during the last battle with the devil, this is a natural conclusion.

Count Campbell might even consider Erendil as a chess piece that can be risked for victory in war. Of course, he probably couldn’t actually say it out loud.

“So you split into two groups.”

“That’s right.”

Rudehrn answered instead. Unlike Erendil, who had been exuding curiosity since earlier, he looked like he had aged about 3 years.

He must have felt the devil’s beam piercing through the dragon from above. It would have been hard to block.

Even the dragon carriage carrying the three Sword Masters couldn’t withstand the sudden attack and fell.

“We also considered the possibility of not meeting you. Even if this plan was our misjudgment and we happened to encounter a devil, we wanted to be able to catch it on our own.”

Saying that, the lineup of the Sword Masters on the first dragon carriage made sense. Faorn was old, and Mondegreen and Denif were outsiders.

The first carriage was meant to serve as bait and concentrated fire in case of emergency, so from the empire’s perspective, they filled it with people who would be relatively okay to lose.

Well, they probably didn’t say this directly, but Denif, Mondegreen, and Faorn must have noticed to some extent.

Of course, now that everything has ended well, it’s a moot point, but Erendil might give them something after this is all over.

“It seems like it was a good decision.”

And to be honest, I think this was the best decision. If we all moved together and were attacked, it would be impossible to respond.

It would have been even more difficult to protect Erendil in the sky. Dividing the dragon carriages into two was the best option.

It’s important that we could make up for the loss of Sword Masters with Rudehrn even if there were losses in the first encounter, but Erendil’s presence is even more significant.

As we saw earlier, even the devil had difficulty avoiding Teme’s Spear if the distance wasn’t too great.

In a way, this means that in terms of combat power, Erendil has strength beyond that of most Sword Masters.

Of course, Rudehrn must have been quite tired. He would have been focusing all his senses forward from the back.

“I was a bit worried coming back while avoiding the devil’s eyes. We had to deviate from the same route. I prayed we wouldn’t get caught, and you held out well.”

“Not at all. By the way, we should move quickly. Devil worshippers were positioned along the route I was planning to move. It won’t be a problem, but it will be tiring.”

Erendil shook her head at my words.

“Schurtafen, you don’t need to worry.”

“Pardon?”

“It should be about time…”

Erendil said that and looked towards the south. As the morning sun rose, turning the sky blue, I too narrowed my eyes and watched.

I had a feeling. And indeed, black dots began to grow larger in the southern sky. It was another dragon carriage.

“Don’t tell me you anticipated even this?”

“This was Count Campbell’s advice. In case both dragon carriages were defeated, escape would become troublesome.”

Erendil smiled brightly. A smile formed on my lips too. I thought it was really good that I made Erendil emperor and attached Count Campbell to her.

Moreover, didn’t we even catch the devil? Although I had been mentally and physically exhausted recently, I felt all that fatigue disappearing.

Now all that was left was the Great Devil. Even if it summoned one more devil, it felt like we could really take it on. A sudden question came to mind.

“Your Majesty, are there Sword Masters on that dragon carriage too?”

“How did you know?”

Erendil grinned. She really seemed to have come fully prepared. Well, in fact, with this force, I wondered if we could go straight to catch the Great Devil.

Of course, that’s impossible. Erendil took a step towards the south.

“Everyone has worked hard. Now, let’s return to the empire.”
