Waiting For Your Reincarnation Chapter 140
Submerged underwater, Yeon-young opened her eyes. The sudden break in the water meant something was wrong with Ryu Won.
She looked in disbelief at the other side of the water. All of the lab’s devices floated in the water, but Ryu Won was nowhere to be seen, not even in silhouette.
Jaeho moved his arm around her waist and held her tightly again. He quickly assessed the situation and rose to the surface.
“Fuha.”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, but…, I don’t see Ryu Won.”
“Is Ryu Won here? There’s no way he wouldn’t follow you.”
Yeon-young stared at the hole in the ceiling and rubbed her palms together. Surely, in her hands, Daeheon’s core was completely shattered.
But even with him gone from this world, the downpour hadn’t stopped. The water was still murky and the world was still falling apart.
Getting out of here would change nothing. To stop this moment, a more essential solution was needed.
“Jung Jaeho.”
“What?”
“Just in case, you’re not making this rain, are you?”
“No.”
She could feel his grip on her waist slacken. The rainwater dripping down his face looked painful.
He had regained his human form, but that was all. His once transparent skin color was still corrupted, dotted with black spots.
Seeing his response and expression, Yeon-young looked at the capsule. If it wasn’t Jaeho, it was that capsule that held all of this trouble.
“Well, we should get rid of that first. Where is this water coming from?”
“Down there, underground.”
“Underground?”
“There’s a network of tunnels, designed to draw in the water, mix it with the experimental drug, and get it out, but it’s probably all contaminated underground, too, so even if we smash that capsule…”
Jaeho trailed off.
Even if they smashed the capsule and stopped the rain, there was nothing they could do about the fact that the ground was starting to be eaten up by Snarl’s energy.
Yeon-young thought quickly. She recalled how she’d used Jaeho’s hint in reverse to find Negro’s headquarters.
‘When you think you’ve run out of options, think backwards. That’s how she’d gotten this far.’
Then…
“Yes, let’s make it rain more.”
“…What do you mean, let’s all have an underwater funeral here?”
“Why die? I’m going to live here for a long time. I haven’t even bought a house yet. Jung Jaeho, lend me your strength.”
Jaeho frowned slightly, but nodded his head once. He figured he might as well do something if he was going to sink.
“What can I do for you?”
“Just get me to that capsule over there. That’s the one that’s pulling the water up. I think that’s the one.”
“What the hell are you thinking?”
“If you’re not going to help me, then I’ll do it myself.”
Yeon-young dropped his hand from her waist and said firmly. If he refused, she was ready to dive under the water alone.
Seeing the determination in her eyes, Jaeho grabbed both of her shoulders and dove in with her.
The blue-colored core in his earlobes flickered unsteadily. Snarl’s aura faded, but the damage was done.
He gritted his teeth and formed a circle of defense around Yeon-young and himself. Once inside the shield, the water offered little resistance.
It didn’t take long to reach the capsule. As she stared at the water-spewing capsule, Yeon-young took a deep breath.
She stretched her arm out of the shield and slipped it through the crack. The pain was scorching, incomparable to the raindrops.
“…Hey! Kim Yeon-young…! What are you doing!”
“This drug was made with the sacrifice of souls.”
“Does that matter now? Get your hands off it!”
“It does matter. What’s the first power I have? You know.”
Jaeho raised his eyebrows slightly, as if he didn’t quite understand what Yeon-young was saying. His gaze from her arm gradually shifted to his eyes. Yeon-young nodded once.
“Purification…”
“Yes, that’s right, purification. I’m going to purify the water inside the capsule, which is both a filter and a passageway.”
Her voice was full of conviction. Jaeho stared blankly, unable to speak.
She leaned her upper body deeper into the capsule anyway, waving her arms in the water. Her dark brown eyes held a look of desperation.
“Ugh.”
“Yeon-young!”
She leaned her forehead over the capsule, but never removed her hands. Yeon-young pushed her warmth deeper into the water. She concentrated, hoping for a miracle.
The light pink energy from her palm gradually spread through the water. That’s when it happened. The turbid water inside the capsule changed.
The water, which was so grayish that it was hard to tell what was mixed in it, gradually became clear and transparent. A clean smile spread across Yeon-young’s face.
He took a step back and watched the transformation. Jaeho couldn’t take his eyes off the purifying liquid and Yeon-young, who stood tall like a tree.
He nibbled at his earlobe, then suddenly looked at his own body. His toes had begun to turn transparent from the purification, and he pressed himself against Yeon-young’s upper body as if he had made a decision.
“Jung Jaeho. Don’t play around. I need you to concentrate.”
“You said you wanted to make it rain more. I’ll help you.”
“How? Do you have a good idea?”
“Have you forgotten my powers?”
Jaeho flashed a childlike grin, then slipped his hand inside the capsule and grasped Yeon-young’s hand tightly. She looked up at him in surprise.
She could feel Jaeho’s aura, clean and cool against their skin. Light pink and emerald auras blended harmoniously as they traveled around the capsule.
The water that filled the headquarters was drawn into the capsule like a magnet. In his hands, the liquid within the capsule glowed as brightly as the lake in the Iris Forest.
Then, once again, a giant spray of water cascaded over the capsule like a waterfall. The water was so brilliant that it was dazzling to stare at.
The corrupted water that had filled the Negro headquarters was forced out of the den by Jaeho.
The water that filled Tanato’s skies fell to the ground as a shower, unlike the water that had been wasted.
The iridescent raindrops, reminiscent of the pillars of Iris, were breathtakingly beautiful.
“Hey…, Jung Jaeho… Look at that. The world is coming back to normal.”
“…Kim Yeon-young.”
“Jung Jaeho? What’s wrong with you?”
Jaeho kept his hands inside the capsule and closed his eyes, savoring the newly falling rain. His body had turned completely transparent, like a soul that would soon disappear.
Yeon-young’s brow furrowed slightly as she remembered the moment she lost Saeri. It was a precursor to annihilation.
Only then did she notice his core, which had lost its color. Jaeho brought a hand to his earlobe, uncomfortable with this moment. His toes slowly lost their shape, like a sand castle crumbling.
“Jung Jaeho, let me cleanse you for a moment. Take my hand.”
“It’s no use, it’s too late.”
“Did you know we’d end the war this way? You didn’t. You don’t know until you try.”
“You know it’s not because I’m corrupt.”
Jaeho was right. This wasn’t the Snarl’s energy causing him to lose his form. The core was broken because he had used more than he could use.
Jaeho threw himself at Tanato to protect her.
Yeon-young stood in front of Jaeho, her fingernails hanging down. The strange, unpleasant glint in his sea-blue eyes was long gone.
He held Yeon-young in his eyes without speaking, then opened his mouth.
“I’ve been trying to get back to where you are.”
“I know, I’ve seen it all, the stupid things you do to get the first button back on the right way.”
“Yeon-young, I’m sorry.”
“Sorry for what?”
“For destroying your world. I’m all…”
“Jung Jaeho. Humans and gods alike wander. No one is perfect.”
“…….”
“Thank you for putting up with it and coming back, I’ve already forgiven you, you don’t have to apologize anymore.”
Yeon-young smiled slightly, even as she was pelted with iridescent showers. The raindrops glistened, giving her a halo behind her.
Jaeho replayed that familiar smile in his mind. The laugh was enough to bring back memories of them sitting in the field, chatting.
Yeon-young reached out to him. Just like Jaeho had done the day she first purified him. As if mesmerized by something, Jaeho reached out and placed his hand over hers, warmth enveloping his palm.
“Goodbye, Jung Jaeho.”
The clear voice echoed through the room, and as if in response, Jaeho smiled so brightly that his eyes were invisible.
In that moment, his form crumbled to dust. He disappeared without a trace, blending into the falling raindrops. Yeon-young stared at the spot where he had disappeared for a long time.
The fierce war with Negro had come to an end.
