Waiting For Your Reincarnation Chapter 77
“If you’re going to be annihilated, why do it alone? Are you crazy to go into the middle of a war?”
“We need to find the soul shard before it’s damaged.”
Jaeho’s ramblings were interrupted by Zhaolin’s nonchalant interjection. She had a point.
It was unreasonable to enter a war zone to search for a lost fragment of a soul that hadn’t gone berserk.
Ryu Won clamped his index finger over Jaeho’s mouth and came up with a plan.
“I’ll go alone.”
“Yeon-young should go, because the easiest way to find a soul fragment is to resonate with its owner.”
There was a moment of silence. Everyone seemed to know how to do it.
Yeon-young cut through the silence with a question.
“What does it mean for a piece to resonate with its owner?”
“When a soul on the same wavelength approaches, the soul fragment makes its presence known with vibrations and light. An instinct to assimilate with its owner.”
She finally understood the resonance part.
But if the soul fragment possessed these qualities, Yeon-young had to go to Branch 5.
Zhaolin frowned at the headache of having to make this decision without the Chairman.
The room fell silent again.
“You shouldn’t have dropped the shard in Robillo.”
“Right.”
Zhaolin murmured softly, as if hesitant, and the spirits’ complexions grew even murkier as the name Robillo left her mouth.
Jaeho scratched the back of his head and smiled.
“Mr. Ryu Won, what’s in Robillo?”
“There are a bunch of spirits there, so that’s why.”
“What a bunch? A bunch of assholes.”
Jaeho put his hands in his robe pockets and walked lightly toward Yeon-young.
He leaned his face close to hers and assured her of one thing.
“You just remember one thing, hide the fact that you lost a piece of your soul well.”
Yeon-young instinctively turned to Ryu Won.
He gave a small nod of agreement. It really should be hidden.
When Yeon-young nodded her understanding, the line for Branch 5 was quickly finalized.
It was decided that all the spirits, except for Zhaolin, would go to Branch 5 in case Branch 1 is invaded.
Zhaolin is seated at the head table and is briefed on the current situation in Branch 5 via her necklace. The necklace emitted several voices sharing the situation.
– Robillo needs to be restored.
– Spirits in the village refuse to evacuate.
– Request for assistance with recovery work.
– Branch 5 closed for the time being.
The aftermath of Snarl’s sweep seemed to be huge.
Amidst the constant stream of words, Yeon-young’s eyes widened at the word closure.
Zhaolin let out a small sigh and clasped her necklace.
“Didn’t you just say shutdown?”
“Yes. We’re in trouble. Once it’s closed, it’s closed for a week.”
“Then what are we going to do?”
“You won’t be able to go to the Fifth Branch unless a spirit in charge opens it.”
The mood in the room sank again.
“Yongari, who is the gatekeeper of the Fifth Division?”
“Edelous.”
“Eh, he’s a bullshit old man. I was going to throw some money at him and ask him to open the gate for me.”
Jaeho came up with an equally unsound plan. Ryu Won glanced at Jaeho with a disapproving glance and turned away.
Yeon-young thought back to the kindly-faced Edelous she’d met at the hotel.
“What the hell. I shouldn’t have gotten caught in a place with a gatekeeper like that.”
“Don’t you think that a gatekeeper of any branch would turn you away with your reputation?”
Zhaolin drove a stake into Jaeho’s heart with a fact.
Of course, Jaeho didn’t seem too concerned about his ruined reputation.
Just then, a light bulb flickered in Yeon-young’s head and she realized something.
“You said the gatekeeper of the Fifth Division was Mr. Edelous, right?”
Blue ribbon. She had given him Idelia’s blue ribbon at the hotel.
He had promised her one thing then.
She had one wish that Edelous had given her.
Her eyes sparkled with intelligence, like sunlight.
“I think I found a way in.”
Yeon-young’s voice sounded confident, and everyone’s eyes widened and focused on her.
* * *
The next day, Ryu Won, Jaeho, and Yeon-young stood in front of the mirror on the third floor of the library.
In front of the mirror on the third floor stood a new gatekeeper, the newest continuation of Idelia’s karma.
The woman was small and cute as a chick, and she smiled, revealing her cute Indian dimples.
“Hello, my name is Zorian!”
With unskilled hands, Zorian fumbled with the mirror, and slowly, the face of Edelous emerged.
His violet eyes were filled with disapproval and displeasure. Yeon-young gave him a curt greeting.
“So it’s you and the two troublemakers. How are you?”
“I’m fine. How’s Branch 5 doing now?”
“We’re on high alert, not knowing when the Snarls will invade again… We’re starting to recover.”
“Thank you, Mr. Edelous, for this difficult request.”
Edelous gave an embarrassed smile as he unwrapped his arms.
Yeon-young thanked him again and stepped closer to the mirror.
“You know, if it weren’t for your wish, it’d be off limits.”
“I’ll come out as soon as we find the soul fragment.”
“Well, since you’re helping with the restoration work, you should take your time finding it.”
“Old man, do you really have to pamper us so much?”
Jaeho pressed his face close to the glass surface as if he were going to smash the mirror.
Upon hearing Yeon-young’s news, Edelous was more than happy to open the door.
But they needed a reason to enter the battlefield, to set an example for the other branches.
After some hesitation, they were granted permission in the name of emergency assistance from Branch 5.
“Then you can stay at the center.”
In fact, Ryu Won and the two of them could go and look for it. After all, even Jaeho, who had dropped the soul fragment, didn’t know exactly where he’d lost it.
Freezing for a moment at his words, Jaeho sighed heavily and stepped back.
His pale blue eyes stared intently at Ryu Won.
“I told you I wanted one.”
Under that stare, Ryu Won’s brow furrowed slightly.
Perhaps sensing the unusual air currents even from beyond the mirror, Edelous clapped his hands.
The noise he made drew attention back to the air.
“Anyway, I’ll get you connected, but be careful. But don’t give it more than a day.”
“Yes.”
After he finished, Edelous muttered, gripping the mirror with both hands.
Zorian placed her hands on the mirror as well, closing her eyes and concentrating.
Light emanated from the violet pupils of Edelous’ eyes and permeated the mirror.
Then the mirror’s surface crackled and crackled, and soon, on the other side, she could clearly see her reflection.
“Let’s go.”
Ryu Won’s low voice was a start, and one by one, they leapt into the mirror.
When they passed through the mirror safely, there was Edelous standing in front of them, smiling benevolently.
“Edelous!”
“It’s been a long time. So, where should I look for the soul fragment?”
“In the town of Robillo.”
“Oh, Robillo.”
At the mention of the name Robillo, Edelous had a similar reaction to the other spirits.
Edelous looked at Yeon-young with compassion.
She didn’t know what kind of town Robillo was that they all reacted like that.
“At least you’re well-liked by the spirits, so maybe it’s okay.”
Edelous updated the map of the Fifth Branch and authorized the teleportation.
It was only now that it began to sink in that they had crossed over to another branch.
She glanced at the spot where her bracelet had disappeared after a brief glow.
“You should be able to teleport within the five branches for about a day, but you’ll have to be careful to find a good communication area, because of the black energy…”
“I’ll be careful.”
“I’ll concentrate the recovery efforts at the Fifth District center, but you’ll need to convince the spirits.”
“Convince?”
“There must be quite a few spirits left in Robillo. Tell them to evacuate.”
If this is the case, why aren’t the spirits of Robillo evacuating?
Yeon-Young tilted her head in wonder and pondered.
Just then, Jaeho, noticing her outfit, took off his bulletproof vest and tossed it to her.
“Huh?”
“Put it on. Don’t bruise yourself stupidly.”
“Yeon-young, throw it away, I know what it is.”
As Edelous watched, embarrassment flickered in his violet eyes.
Ryu Won snatched the bulletproof vest from Yeon-young’s hand with a slightly rough touch.
Jaeho grabbed Ryu Won’s wrist to stop him.
“Are those eyes decorations? Can’t you tell? It’s a bulletproof vest for Snarl.”
“It’s disgusting that your traces are touching Ms. Yeon-young.”
Ryu Won blew a gust of wind and threw the vest to the ground.
Then he tiptoed over and stepped on the vest.
Ryu Won hid his chill behind a relaxed smile and said,
“I don’t know what the wind is doing to you, but don’t interrupt me now. It’s late.”
Jaeho’s blue eyes were fixed on his fallen bulletproof vest.
Yeon-young started to move to pick it up, but Edelous grabbed her shoulder.
Jaeho made a water droplet and lifted the vest. Then he barked out a laugh.
“What’s the matter with you? You were the one who had your hands free when you jumped in.”
“What?”
“I’m not giving up this time.”
Ryu Won’s eyes widened slightly at Jaeho’s words. The veins on the back of his hand gripping his bulletproof vest flared.
