“Does it disgust you? Do you hate it?”

He whispered the question against Hae-Joo’s lips, and she shook her head.

Then, spreading her legs wider, she pulled his hips, bringing him into deep contact with her core.

As Hae-Joo let out a satisfied moan, her eyes narrowing, and sucked on his lips, Yi-Ho pulled his waist back again.

He hadn’t put on the condom yet.

After he moved away, put on the condom, and removed the remaining clothes from his body, he saw Hae-Joo had also taken off her own uncomfortable clothes and was lying there with her legs together.

Yi-Ho narrowed his eyes and gazed at Hae-Joo’s body, which never failed to stimulate every one of his senses.

Her slender limbs and waist, her soft skin, even her scent that made his head spin—it was all familiar, something he knew intimately, yet he found it hard to pull himself away.

He was someone who tired of things easily, but it seemed he would never tire of Hae-Joo.

As he lowered his body over hers, Hae-Joo smiled brightly and spread her arms wide to embrace him.

His member, finding her entrance, pushed in with a warm, firm pressure.

Hae-Joo lightly furrowed her brow and parted her lips.

It seemed slightly overwhelming for her; her hips lifted a little, and she only slowly relaxed after he was halfway in.

Yi-Ho kissed her forehead and began to move his hips slowly.

Strangely, whether he was a monster or a human, the desire that raged like a wildfire towards Yeon Hae-Joo remained unchanged.

As he braced his hands on the sides of Hae-Joo’s head and moved in and out of her entrance a little more firmly, Hae-Joo’s breathing began to roughen.

A flush rose on her cheeks, and her stiff, erect nipples looked delectable.

He fondled her breast with one hand, then gripped the curve of her waist before lifting her slender leg to kiss her calf.

In response, her entrance clenched tightly around his member.

Yi-Ho let out a ragged moan.

For a moment, a tingling sensation shot to his head, and he nearly came.

He licked her calf with his tongue, spread the soft inside of her thighs wide, and moved shallowly.

Hae-Joo, who had been whimpering, wriggled her hips and struggled with her legs.

As he churned inside her, the wetness increased, and the slick sounds from their joining grew louder.

He lowered his head to suck on her breast, then pressed his face against hers.

“…Someday, haah…!”

As he drew near, Hae-Joo, rubbing her nose against his, murmured with eyes clouded by passion.

“Someday… it would be nice if we could have a child. Someday… when this country becomes a livable place… then.”

“A child?”

Yi-Ho momentarily froze, stopping the frantic movement of his hips driven by desire.

“Yes. Our child. Ban Yi-Ho and Yeon Hae-Joo’s child.”

He had never once thought he could become a “parent”.

He had never even considered being with someone.

But now, the woman before him, for whom he would gladly stake everything, was dreaming of a child between them.

“Wouldn’t they be pretty?”

Hae-Joo asked with a bright smile. Yi-Ho frowned.

It still didn’t feel real, but if he could have a child, one thing was certain: he would never leave them alone. He would protect them.

So that no storm could ever harm them.

He wrapped his arms around Hae-Joo’s lower back, pulling her up to sit facing him.

The deeper penetration drew a low moan from Hae-Joo, who gripped his shoulders.

“Someday… let’s have one.”

He answered in a husky voice and kissed her. Hae-Joo laughed brightly and wrapped her arms around his neck.

Perhaps she had thought he would refuse; a look of relief was also on her face.

Yi-Ho pulled Hae-Joo’s rounded hips towards him, pushing his member deep inside.

Hae-Joo sobbed softly by his ear.

“It’s too deep.”

“Yeah.”

He kissed the slender nape of her neck and licked it with his tongue.

He rocked her, as if trying to press everything against himself—the soft, round breasts against his chest, their stomachs together, their joined sexes.

Hae-Joo, who had been trying to move her hips to match his rhythm, eventually lost strength and simply clung to him helplessly.

He laid Hae-Joo down again and covered her small, pretty face with kisses.

He gripped her waist, thrusting heavily and firmly.

“Nghh…! Ah, please… faster…!”

As if she couldn’t bear it, Hae-Joo grabbed his arm and sobbed.

Yi-Ho looked down at Hae-Joo’s parted folds, spread wide for him, and lightly rubbed the outer lips with his fingers.

As if electrocuted, Hae-Joo shuddered and clenched around his member tightly.

“Ah…!”

With a moan, Yi-Ho collapsed on top of Hae-Joo’s body.

His hips moved at an incredible speed before stiffening rigidly as he came.

Sweat dripped down from the hair at Hae-Joo’s temple, her whole body flushed red.

Yi-Ho licked the sweat away with his tongue, kissed her white, dazzling shoulder, and let his hands roam over her soft thighs and buttocks.

Hae-Joo, panting heavily, felt his member hardening inside her again and trembled.

She looked up at him with surprised eyes. Yi-Ho smiled enticingly and slowly rubbed his member against her entrance.

“I held back for too long.”

“Ah…!”

As his movements began again, Hae-Joo gripped the sheets tightly and threw her head back.

Yi-Ho looked down at the most beautiful sight unfolding before his eyes, his mind growing increasingly hazy.

* * *

The next day, standing deep in the rugged mountains near Ban-ga-ho village, Hae-Joo brushed the dirt from her hands and straightened up.

“It’s done.”

Before her were over ten small mounds, each with a rough wooden marker stuck into it.

And on each wooden marker, a name was written. Hae-Joo’s gaze rested on the one that read “Gu Eun-Sil”.

Without realizing it, Hae-Joo stared blankly at the name, her eyes stinging until she lowered her eyelids.

Besides Eun-Sil, numerous other names were written on the markers on the mounds.

Eun-Sil’s family, the people from her village, Hongo, the crow in the form of a child, Teacher Kim, Min-byeong, Young-Ji….

They were people who would have lived long lives in a peaceful world, but because it wasn’t, they had to be sent away.

She had come up the mountain this morning with Yi-Ho and the crows to make these small mounds and personally write the names on the markers.

The reason the mounds could be so small was that there were no bodies or coffins inside them to occupy space.

Japan had forced Koreans to cremate their dead instead of burying them, and the bodies collected by the Japanese military and police had all been turned into handfuls of ash.

“Hongo got lucky. Not even human, but he got a grave. There really… won’t be any monster remembered like this after death. He’d like it. A lot.”

Perhaps sensing her heavy mood, Yi-Ho suddenly spoke.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Hae-Joo turned her eyes from the marker bearing Hongo’s name to look at him.

“Even if they disappeared without a trace like Hongo, we’d notice. Even if they were cremated and their ashes dumped somewhere unknown, we’d know. As long as these mounds with their names are here, it signifies that this is the land where they were born and raised, the land they tried to protect.”

Even after becoming human, his inherently aloof nature hadn’t gone anywhere.

His words were cold yet calm, making Hae-Joo’s somber heart feel heavy and tight.

“That’s why you came up the mountain at dawn to build these mounds. Because they died unjustly, their resentment runs deep. If by chance their souls are wandering the underworld, you hope they remember their names, return here, and find peace.”

“Yes.”

Hae-Joo smiled faintly.

Yi-Ho’s insight always meant she didn’t need to explain much.

“If there is an afterlife, I hope they do.”

When Eun-Sil had scattered her family’s ashes, she had only wished for them to fly away freely.

But ultimately, this land was their root, and if they wanted to rest for a while, she hoped this place would serve as that guidepost.

Someday, this country would definitely break free from Japan’s grip.

She, Yi-Ho, and so many others wished for it and would make it happen.

“Thank you for doing this with me.”

“It’s only natural. I didn’t get my life for free.”

Yi-Ho, who had come to her side, put a hand on her shoulder and looked at the densely packed mounds covering a flat area of the valley.

“Thanks to them, I’m alive now and can be by your side. I will live to repay this debt of blood paid by thousands.”

Hae-Joo nodded at Yi-Ho’s following words.

“I will be with you too.”

Hae-Joo laced her fingers with Yi-Ho’s large hand and stared with determined eyes at the dozen mounds.

‘Thank you.’

‘And I’m sorry.’

‘I will live my best life so that your cruelly sacrificed lives are not shamed, so that this price paid in countless lives is never in vain.’

‘And I will dedicate this life to ensuring that someday your souls can return to this land with peace of mind.’

‘This man, who also owes you a debt, will be by my side.’

‘May you be at peace, free from suffering and fear.’

Hae-Joo and Yi-Ho bowed their heads deeply towards the mounds in mourning.
