Everything is back in place.

The Academy had skipped a season and reopened with an extra semester of recovery time.

“Eileen, can I talk to you alone for a moment after we eat?”

Eileen nodded in response to Laquerta’s question as she happily devoured her first meal in a long time. When they finished, they sat down across from each other at a picnic table in the garden.

“What’s going on?”

Eileen asked, sipping the juice she’d haphazardly packed, as Laquerta sat up straight and honest.

“I like you.”

“Pffft!”

Eileen coughed violently after taking a big gulp of juice. The confession had come at the wrong time.

When she finally calmed down and looked up, Laquerta was waiting for her answer with a serious expression on her face. Eileen spoke up.

“I’m sorry, I already have someone I like.”

Laquerta didn’t react to the words. It was almost as if he had already known, and it embarrassed him.

“I see. I see. I’ve just been dumped for the first time.”

Eileen sulked at the table and resumed her seat. He chuckled as she tried to figure out what to say.

“Thank you for your honesty. I’m still feeling pretty good about it.”

His smile looked so genuine that Eileen couldn’t help but smile back.

“Eileen, I’m applying to the Healing Arts Institute next semester. It’s a long way away, so we won’t see each other for a while, but if you need my help, I’ll swim over.”

Eileen’s laughter stopped at the unexpected words. Eileen went still and studied Laquerta’s face.

The boy had found something he wanted to do, and he was smiling proudly. The corners of her mouth twitched up again.

“Thank you. I’ll be cheering you on. But please, don’t come swimming, just be normal.”

Eileen barely held back the words she wanted to add.

Time passed in a blur.

The Temple has officially stopped searching for Aire, and Rosinia has been laid to rest. Laquerta left for the academy, and Eileen flunked another test.

“At least the botanical garden business is going well, life isn’t all about studying!”

“Can you please not say that yourself?”

Felix and Lucian made it through the spring bat mitzvah and were officially adults. Felix, who had grown rapidly since the final battle, chose to become an imperial mage instead of a martyr and gave up the surname Forss when he came of age.

“Eileen, I don’t want Forss after our names.”

Ferdinand, who had just been crowned emperor, respected his wishes and tried to bestow a new family name on him, but Felix insisted on taking Eileen’s surname, which would be knighted for his crusades.

Ferdinand laughed heartily at his boldness and granted them both castles at the same time, rewarding them with new estates and rare treasures.

Lumos.

Thus, was born the first co-patriarch of Lumos, who would later become one of the Empire’s greatest magical minds. Eileen and Felix were betrothed shortly after receiving the castle.

Lucian was sent down to the estate to begin the formal training of becoming heir.

“It’s still hard to believe that Lucian will one day be a duke.”

At his side was Andrew, his mouth hanging over his ear.

“My lord, I will follow you for life, and you may take my gall.”

“No need.”

Eileen laughed in her sleep, remembering Lucian’s disgusted expression.

“Are you going?”

Shortly after graduation, Cordelia packed her bags and prepared to leave. As Eileen watched her outside the dormitory door, she asked, and Cordelia left her suitcase behind and ran to hug her.

“Yeah, but I’ll be back.”

After the battle, they kept in touch through Aire’s infrequent mail, and finally fulfilled a promise from their previous lives to go see the ocean.

Eileen was surprised to hear that they would be traveling across the country together to experience more than just the ocean and broaden their horizons.

“You’ve all grown up.”

Setting down her coffee cup, Eileen gazed out the starry window.

Eileen had gotten busy with the botanical garden business. Creating new entertainment, such as theme parks, that the Empire didn’t have was surprisingly well suited to her aptitude.

Busy, but enjoyable. It was a stable, peaceful existence.

But even so, when she saw a group of students walking down the street, her head would occasionally turn.

‘It seems like just yesterday that we were all together.’

Of course, she couldn’t help but feel a little lonely. But it wasn’t depressing; even when they were apart, they were still important to each other.

Fast forward to the spring of their 21st year.

Eileen and Felix were married.

***

Eileen and Felix’s wedding was a lavish affair. In truth, Eileen had hoped for a modest celebration, but she had no choice when the imperial palace itself offered to sponsor the wedding of two of the most prominent members of the Temple of Chavil.

Even the guests were a mix of transcendents and sages, making it even more difficult to keep it simple.

“My God.”

Cordelia’s mouth dropped open when she saw Eileen in the waiting room, back in time for her wedding. Eileen’s light brown hair was up in a bun and she looked breathtakingly beautiful in her sheer white gown.

Eileen looked embarrassed.

“Um, are you okay? I don’t wear colorful dresses, so I don’t know if it looks good on me.”

“It suits you so well. I want to run away with you.”

Eileen laughed out loud at the clever remark. Cordelia made sure she didn’t add the word sincere.

Lua and Moa did the dancing. Both had grown up, but they were still just children in Eileen’s eyes.

As the crystals of light that Rosalia had magically created flew through the air, Eileen appeared in her dress, holding Felix’s hand.

Felix, his pale pink hair cropped neatly and worn halfway down his back, smiled wickedly, his eyes narrowed, and Eileen could barely contain herself as she nearly swayed.

Star was bouncing up and down the aisle with excitement.

In fact, Eileen doesn’t remember much of the wedding. She was so nervous that by the time she woke up, it was all over.

“The only thing I remember is the kiss of vows.”

The new bride’s face flushed red as she recalled the moist warmth of his lips on hers.

“Congratulations on your marriage, Eileen. Oh, I guess I should call you Eileen Lumos now.”

“Eileen, congratulations on your marriage, who better to live happily ever after?”

The Duke smirked, and Eileen wrinkled her nose mischievously.

“Just call me Eileen! Thank you, Lucian, I’m so glad you came.”

Orgen and Albert sipped their drinks in disbelief.

“Kids grow up so fast, it seems like just yesterday Eileen was in first grade and now she’s married.”

“That’s the thing, hmmm.”

Rosalia walked by them, caught sight of Orgen’s face, and narrowed her eyes.

“Are you crying?”

“I’m not crying!”

Cordelia furiously filmed Eileen as she walked away from Orgen, who was shouting unnecessarily in embarrassment. Eileen, noticing the filming, said,

“How long are you filming for, Cordelia, have you eaten?”

“I’ll eat after this, because the light is different at different times of the day.”

As Eileen shook her head in disbelief, a man with two glasses approached. Navy blue hair that shaded his eyes, tall. It was Aire in costume.

“There are a lot of people from the temple here, are you okay?”

Eileen asked nervously, and he replied.

“I’m fine, I’d regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t come.”

Eileen laughed out loud.

“Thank you.”

Someone grabbed Eileen’s hand. Eileen spun around to see Tommy and Gail.

“Sis!”

“It’s Tommy and Mother Superior!”

“It’s so good to see you happy, Eileen!”

Eileen broke into another big smile. She had been smiling so much all day that she looked like a clown.

In the distance, she could see Laquerta and Andrew giving her a thumbs-up every time she made eye contact with them. It was hard to contain her laughter whenever she saw them.

“Ah, fun.”

There were so many people, it was overwhelming, but it was fun.

She was smiling because her favorite people had come a long way to congratulate her. Eileen remembered each smile for a long time.

At times, she was heartbreakingly afraid of losing this happiness. But she overcame her fears, trusted people, and moved on, and now she could see the landscape.

The path of destruction she wanted so badly to avoid.

It was the moment when Eileen finally settled into her happy ending, having fended off everything.
