Just thinking about that poisonous-looking Ella made me frown.

The bad woman who tried to turn me into a puppet by handing me over to the temple!

I looked into Yohan’s eyes and spoke firmly.

“Yohan, don’t worry about what she said to you.”

Yohan chuckled quietly at my frowning expression.

“Why?”

“There’s no way she said anything nice to you.”

“Well, that’s true.”

He looked at me with a languid face and then added.

“But why would you want me not to worry?”

“Because I’m sure you will get hurt….?”

“…….”

Yohan did not answer.

Looking at his cold face, I thought, ‘Hmm, you’re not the type to get hurt, are you?’

So I quickly added.

“Well, even if you don’t get hurt, you’ll feel bad…”

I just answered following the flow of my consciousness, but Yohan was silent for a while.

He just stared at me blankly.

I felt awkward for some reason, so I coughed a little, and he smiled faintly.

“I’m glad.”

“What?”

“You worry about me.”

Then, before I could say anything, he added:

“Of course, it wasn’t anything nice. But still, it wasn’t exactly wrong either. She said the blood of Hyrad’s wizards was a kind of curse.”

A curse…

‘So that’s what made him pause.’

His face was so calm that it made me even more concerned.

“Honestly, even though I have power and people admire me because I’m a wizard… if you asked me whether it’s a blessing or a curse, I’d say it’s closer to a curse.”

It felt like it was the first time in a long time that I heard such sincerity.

Although Yohan always looked relaxed and calm, he seemed to be shrouded in a veil.

I looked at Yohan quietly, holding my breath.

I also understand why he calls it a curse.

Magic was powerful, yes—but it always came with pain.

So of course, he’d keep relying on the divine beast’s soothing abilities.

People admired wizards with special powers, but from what I’d seen up close, it wasn’t something to envy.

The price is definitely a pain.

But the words that came out of Yohan’s mouth were completely unexpected.

“It’s hard to be honest about my own feelings and desires. People say wizards aren’t quite normal.”

I thought he was talking about physical pain, but he was talking about ‘ordinariness’ instead.

Looking at my bewildered face, Yohan continued speaking slowly.

“I have to always worry about whether I will be a nuisance to ordinary people or a source of misfortune to someone, and I have to keep walking a fine line. But that doesn’t mean I can live my life giving up everything.”

His eyes, which had always seemed strangely kind, now looked slightly sad.

He added with a slow sigh.

“So… when I have thoughts like that, I always wish I were just an ordinary human. I know it’s pointless, but still.”

As soon as he finished speaking, I shot back,

“Don’t say nonsense like that.”

“huh….?”

Yohan looked at me, slightly taken aback.

“What on earth is a ‘normal person’? Are they all normal if they’re not a wizard? Then Ella would be a ‘normal person’ too?”

At my indignant tone, Yohan’s eyes trembled slightly.

“Ella, a ‘normal person’, is that why she locked you in that tower and even made you take bad drugs? Rivena and Patre are ‘normal people’, who harm others?”

“mm…”

“You’ve never done anything bad or hurt anyone, so why are you the one worrying and overthinking everything? Don’t shrink just because of something Ella said.”

As I spoke, my emotions grew more and more intense, and I continued speaking with my eyes wide open.

“Go ask a hundred so-called ‘ordinary people.’ Ask them who’s normal—you or Ella. Who’s more human, and who actually deserves to live as they wish. They’ll all say Yohan Hyrad.”

“Yurika.”

“What kind of messed-up logic is that? The people who should be censored go around hurting everyone, and you’re the one censoring yourself?”

“…….”

“Then I guess I’m not normal either, since I’ve been sticking by your side, saving you, and helping you live.”

Silence fell in the carriage once again.

Yohan stared at me in stunned silence—then suddenly, with a short exhale, laughed softly.

I thought I had known Yohan for a long time, but I’d never seen that expression before.

“Yurika.”

And after a long time of thinking about what to say, he slowly opened his mouth.

“You don’t know how much that means to me….”

“Huh?”

His voice had grown hoarse without me noticing, and his violet eyes looked far away.

I hesitated, wondering if I had overstepped my bounds—but Yohan gave me a gentle smile.

“I think I’ll remember it for a long time,” he said languidly.

“The carriage rattles a little, but not enough to be bothersome.”

He was looking straight at me.

“The green trees outside are passing by at just the right speed.”

My body stiffened slightly. I felt like I was being pierced by his gaze.

“The air inside is a little humid, so it’s a bit stuffy, but… I still don’t want to open the window.”

Even though we weren’t touching at all, I felt this strange tingling in my toes.

Yohan’s voice continued.

“You sit in front of me with your hair down, wearing a light pink dress, and twiddling your fingers lovingly.”

The image Yohan described through his eyes was engraved in my head like a painting.

It was just a trivial moment, but I felt like I would always remember this moment from now on.

“I will remember this for a very long time,” he said, almost reverently.

“This moment when you told me I’m more human than anyone else… and that it’s okay for me to do as I wish.”

“What’s so important about being human?”

“It matters,” he replied with a quiet chuckle.

“You have a strong sense of self as a human being.”

“Say it right. I am human…”

When I asked him to talk, he just smiled softly and nodded.

“Thank you anyway.”

He looked at me intently and said.

“I really… really liked hearing that.”

It was strange when I thought about it.

I had actually reduced his pain, saved him from danger—but right now, Yohan looked more moved than during any of those moments.

We even shared a rather passionate kiss in this very carriage not long ago.

And yet, he seemed to be holding on to this moment more than that.

‘Wow, am I the only one still thinking about that kiss? Was Yohan really just trying to calm down? I’m the beast here, huh.’

‘Well, I am a beast.’

Anyway, I blinked out of embarrassment.

“And I don’t need the opinions of a hundred random people,” Yohan said, narrowing his eyes.

“Just yours is enough.”

In an instant, the voices subsided and a languid atmosphere took over again.

Still, we hadn’t even touched—but my body was tense.

“Oh, since you value your family, I’ll include them too.”

‘Is he trying to fool me again?’

“Unlike me, you have a good family.”

“W-well… yeah.”

I barely nodded.

“If it’s for my family… I can do anything.”

“But they lost you, didn’t they? And didn’t find you for a long time?”

“Ah…”

I opened my mouth, lips trembling.

“It’s okay. Love isn’t something you measure like that. It’s meaningless to calculate everything like that between people who are important to you.”

I had thought about the very thing Yohan was pointing out, more than once.

But my family was too precious to me to calculate that.

Yohan, who had been quietly looking at me, smiled faintly.

“These are truly human words.”

“I told you, you’re human too. Don’t talk like that, as if you’re drawing a line.”

I rolled my eyes and said it again.

“Anyway, you don’t have to censor yourself like that. Don’t shrink back just because you’re a wizard. From now on, stop doing that. I’ll guarantee your humanity.”

After saying that, I briefly wondered if I was being too generous to the original villain—but it didn’t matter. That was my judgment of Yohan.

Just as I came to that conclusion, he leaned in slowly toward me.

“Yurika.”

Despite his sweet voice, his lips kept catching my eye.

“But you know….”

“Hmm?”

“If you say so….”

As he came closer, the memory of our last kiss in the carriage kept flashing through my mind.

I couldn’t understand why I kept thinking about that time. It wasn’t like touching him actually soothed his pain.

Now his voice had a slightly hoarse edge.

“I really want to do what I want to do.”
