Contrary to Eleanor’s earnest hope that it was nothing serious, the situation seemed to be quite serious. Claude, and even Adrian. jumped in to solve the problem, yet as the weeks went by, there didn’t seem to be much progress.

‘What is the reason? So suddenly…’

Eleanor knew how meticulously the Marquis Blake and his wife ran their business. So the current situation felt even more bewildering.

But that wasn’t the only problem.

“Demi, where does it hurt?”

Eleanor asked Demian cautiously. He shook his head slowly.

Although she touched his forehead to see if he had a fever, there was no fever. Eleanor tilted her head at him.

Sienna and Lucas also seemed to be bothered by Demian looking so helpless today.

Sienna handed Demian her share of cookies. Cookies filled with chocolate chips were Demian’s favorite.

“Demi, do you want to eat this?”

Demian shook his head silently. After thinking for a moment, Sienna dipped the cookie into  whipped cream.

“Even like this?”

Demian shook his head with an annoyed face without even looking at the cookie.

“I’m fine.”

There is something wrong.

Sienna and Lucas made eye contact with serious faces.

“Demi, do you want to use my fountain pen?”

Lucas held out the fountain pen he had received as a gift from Izmel with trembling hands. It was something Demian had always envied.

Demian shook his head.

For sure. There’s something wrong. That, too, is a huge problem.

Lucas and Sienna made eye contact again and nodded.

“Teacher, what’s wrong with Demian?”

Sienna asked Eleanor in a whisper.

“I don’t know either. I guess he doesn’t want to talk about it right now. We’ll find out later.”

Eleanor answered in her low voice and stroked Sienna’s hair.

Demian didn’t say much throughout class. All he had to do was answer ‘yes’ and ‘no’ infrequently.

However, as Demian kept his mouth shut, the atmosphere strangely calmed down. Sienna and Lucas also didn’t chat or fight as excitedly as before.

Eleanor once again realized that Demian played a central role here.

After class, Kaidel came to pick Demian up. Eleanor grabbed Kaidel’s wrist.

“Let’s talk for a moment.”

Kaidel was dragged by Eleanor’s hand to the corner with a puzzled look on his face. Eleanor said, placing her hands on her waist.

“Tell me honestly. What did you do to Demi?”

“What…”

“Pressuring him, getting angry, or looking at him scarily.”

He shook his head. Eleanor sighed.

“Demian looks limp today. Even when I ask why, there is no answer. I’m worried.”

Kaidel’s face also became serious at Eleanor’s words.

“Really? Nothing much happened…”

“Hmm, maybe he’s just feeling a little down today. Everyone has days like that.”

Although she still felt uneasy, there was nothing more she could do at the moment.

At that time, Lucas and Sienna, who saw Kaidel and Eleanor standing next to each other from afar, came running.

“Hello!”

Sienna stepped in between the two and greeted them.

“Hello, Duke!”

Lucas also hugged Kaidel’s legs and looked up at him. Kaidel patted him on the head with a puzzled face.

“Yes, hello, you two.”

Sienna also grabbed Kaidel’s other leg then jumped up and down. They looked like two cicadas clinging to an old tree.

Kaidel stood awkwardly and gave Eleanor a look of salvation. He was desperate as he still doesn’t know what to do when children cling onto him.

‘Help me, please.’

‘It’s fine. It won’t hurt you.’

‘Like this?’

Eleanor shrugged her eyebrows as if she couldn’t help it.

“Please let me ride your shoulders today too!”

Sienna held Kaidel’s finger tightly and her eyes lit up. Lucas, who was next to her, also started jumping up and down.

“Me too!”

“I said it first, you know?”

“I know, though?”

Kaidel sighed softly as he looked at the two children bickering.

Eleanor burst out laughing as she saw Kaidel obediently bowing down. As she watched the children hugging him and climbing up without hesitation, she felt a strange feeling.

At that time, Demian came up next to Eleanor and gently squeezed the hem of Eleanor’s skirt.

“Demi, aren’t you playing with them too?”

Eleanor asked, sitting down lightly on the stairs. Demian shook his head as if it was okay. She sat Demian on her lap and hugged him tightly.

“Shall we just stay like this with me?”

Demian nodded.

“Alright, then.”

Eleanor gently stroked his fine black hair.

“Enna and Luke seem really excited. right.”

Sienna and Lucas’s laughter grew louder and now seemed to reach the sky. Kaidel was seen circling the fountain, holding one child in each arm.

“And Kaidel looks a little tired…”

The corners of Demian’s lips rose slightly at the words Eleanor muttered. She was relieved to see him smiling, even if only a little.

“Demi isn’t feeling very well today. Is that right?”

Demian snuggled a little deeper into Eleanor’s arms.

“If you want to talk, talk anytime. You can talk about anything.”

“…Yes.”

“If you keep something inside for too long, it puts a cold on your mind. I think sometimes it helps to just let it out of your mouth.”

Demian looked into Eleanor’s eyes. Jewel-like purple eyes sparkled moistly.

Eleanor smiled softly and whispered softly.

“If you need help, just reach out, Demi. I’ll stay by your side.”

***

Eleanor received an urgent message and headed to the office at the Broden Merchant.

“I came as quickly as I could. What happened?”

Adrian handed something to Eleanor with a stern look on his face. It was a thin book.

Eleanor’s eyes widened as she flipped through each page.

“Study sheet…?”

Adrian nodded.

“The content it contains is bound to be similar. But the editorial style was similar, and all newspaper advertisements were published only where we published them. It’s like showing off.”

Eleanor quickly skimmed through each page. From the sleek cover to the illustrations on the first page, it was much more luxurious and fancy than Eleanor’s workbook.

“I think the investors who pulled out went this way, but I don’t know why.”

“You don’t know why? It’s much more luxurious than ours…”

Adrian shook his head.

“I don’t think they’re worried about profit. They used the most expensive paper, and so did the ink. They used something that was better than ours, but if this happens, the unit price goes up a lot.”

“However?”

“The price is cheaper than ours. To the point where there is almost no margin.”

Eleanor frowned at his words.

“Is that possible?”

Adrian replied, shrugging his shoulders.

“It’s possible if the purpose isn’t to pursue profit.”

Eleanor mumbled weakly, leaning her body against the back of the chair.

“A lot of people will flock there.”

Adrian sat down next to Eleanor and answered calmly.

“It’s not enough to worry yet. But it’s true that things are moving little by little, and if they continue to advertise like that, the situation may get worse.”

“Because it isn’t easy to immediately change the textbook you’re studying. There’s less than half a year left until the exam…”

Eleanor was deep in thought.

“But the problem starts after that. Starting next year, everyone will be looking for this textbook.”

A heavy silence fell in the office where Adrian and Eleanor were alone. Adrian, who was staring at the textbook on the desk, cautiously opened his mouth.

“It seems like someone did it maliciously, Ellen.”

“I think so too. But who does that? Why?”

Eleanor’s eyes turned red. The back of her head tingled as if someone had hit her with a hammer. Her head felt dizzy and heart throbbed.

“There are always jealous people around people who are doing well, Ellen. Don’t worry too much. There must be a way.”

Adrian gently wiped away the tears from Eleanor’s eyes with his fingers.

“Still…”

“I’ll do my best. Not to let your sleepless nights and worries become meaningless. Don’t worry too much in advance.”

Eleanor stretched out her arms and hugged Adrian tightly. As Adrian patted her back, her heart calmed down a little.

“Where has Claude gone?”

“He’s meeting the remaining investors. So that they don’t become agitated as well. He will be here soon.”

Eleanor suggested, loosening her arms from holding Adrian.

“Should I meet the investors in person and try to persuade them? Perhaps…”

“Don’t do that.”

Adrian shook his head before Eleanor could finish speaking.

“It won’t help.”

Eleanor noticed that there was something Adrian wasn’t saying.

“Adrian.”

Eleanor slowly approached Adrian. The distance between the two slowly narrowed, then she lifted her chin and made eye contact with him.

“Tell me. Don’t hide anything, just like usual.”

Adrian’s golden eyes shook greatly. He unknowingly gulped.

Eleanor’s face was close. Is it because she feels depressed? Eleanor gave off a completely different vibe than usual.

“I want to know.”

He wasn’t going to tell her. For he didn’t want Eleanor to worry too much about this.

However, Adrian became incredibly weak in front of the gaze that was looking straight at him.

“I think one of the investors was heavily involved in this.”

“Who is that?”

Eleanor frowned. Adrian looked away from her and barely managed to silence.

“Just leave this job to me. I’ll talk to you after I resolve it.”

“Alright.”

If you say that much, well.

Eleanor, who had been studying the book carefully, opened the last chapter. She found a familiar name among her tiny handwriting.

-D. Morris

Eleanor, startled, muttered softly.

“If it’s Morris… Dahlia?”

Adrian suddenly raised his head at Eleanor’s muttering. The two people’s eyes met in the air.

When she looked into Adrian’s eyes, she remembered a conversation she had had with him not long ago when they went to the print shop.

[Do you know Princess Izent well?]

[I don’t. I did see her a few times though. She’s an investor.]

He was clearly talking about Princess Izent and said she was an investor. At a tea party at the Duke’s residence, she saw Dahlia…

A cold premonition passed through her mind. Eleanor’s expression hardened.

“By any chance, is that investor from Duke Izent?”

Adrian’s eyes widened in surprise at Eleanor’s question.

It was positive.
