My Tamed Beast Returned with a Dragon Chapter 50 - The Dragon Who Hid Its Power
The hunters watched Belquior from a distance, like admiring artwork in the Louvre Museum.
Grrrk, grrrk, grrrk.
A beast spewing filth approached Belquior.
“Ugh… That thing!”
“Blegh…”
The stench from the beast made the hunters go pale and step back. It was Foilsetine, known as the Disaster of the Swamp.
Sticky liquid covered its whole body, and unidentifiable lumps dropped off, dirtying the ground.
Korean hunters sometimes nicknamed it after a slimy character from an anime.
‘These beasts are strange. Are they fearless, or just lacking intelligence?’
Belquior observed the approaching Foilsetine with a blank expression. In his world, beasts usually avoided dragons after sensing their presence.
But here, maybe because there were no dragons—or maybe for some other reason—many beasts swarmed toward Belquior.
He found this interesting and began to summon his magic.
Beep beep!
Spring cried sadly because of Foilsetine’s grotesque look and smell. Mom, where did you go? Why did you leave me with this strange man?
Belquior tightly held the struggling Spring so she wouldn’t fly away and waved his hand. Golden magic formed bizarre patterns and a large magic circle appeared in the air.
Soon, a swirling inferno engulfed Foilsetine.
Grrroooar!
Foilsetine resisted, spewing filth everywhere. As it writhed, chunks of slime flew in all directions.
The beast, with muddy, shapeless hands, crept closer. Just as it raised its hand to crush Belquior, he suddenly disappeared—then reappeared behind the beast.
“How pathetic.”
Blue flames erupted from beneath Foilsetine’s belly. It was several times more powerful than the previous fiery swirl.
GRAAAAGH!
A terrifying scream echoed from inside the blazing column of fire. The smell of burning filled the air.
Foilsetine was thoroughly roasted and shattered like a finely crafted ceramic jar.
The hunters were shocked as they saw the beast’s remains where the magic had vanished.
“What was that firepower?! Is he a fire-element mage? No, he seems way stronger than ordinary elemental hunters.”
“A-rank? S-rank? Either way, he’s definitely a top-tier hunter. He could probably beat Reuben Patt from the U.S.!”
“That mage is so cool… Is it too late for me to change classes?”
“Be realistic. But seriously, was that monster really that easy to take down?”
From the hunters’ chatter, Belquior picked up a few clues. They’re this shocked from such basic magic?
He had only used fire magic because it was a natural counter to the beast.
A body made of water and earth dries up quickly in flames. Every beast had a weakness.
Belquior had fought countless monsters. Finding their weak point was second nature to him.
He thought to himself:
‘I’ll stick to using fire magic for now.’
He could already predict what kind of reactions other elemental spells might cause.
When he was younger, he once ventured into the human world for fun—just for a short 100 or 200 years.
At the time, the previous generation was still alive. When they encouraged him to have fun, Belquior jumped into the human world without any knowledge of it. It wasn’t long before he became a fugitive.
Tearing the sky with his bare hands and casting elemental magic recklessly quickly exposed his identity. People even called him a demon king.
He was teased endlessly by other dragons who had visited the human world before him. Even the elder clicked his tongue, saying he hadn’t expected things to go that far.
That’s when Belquior realized that most human mages only excelled in one area, and only archmages could handle two or more elements.
His time in the human world ended quickly but intensely. No matter how much he tried to act like a human, his exceptional power couldn’t be hidden.
So he never returned to the human world again. He wasn’t particularly interested anyway, and finding a mate was more important.
Occasionally, he’d fight off groups of heroes who targeted the World Tree and trespassed on his territory. That was his only contact with humans.
And so, while countless civilizations rose and fell in the human world over thousands of years, Belquior paid them little attention.
Still, if he learned one thing back then, it was that standing out too much among humans wasn’t a good idea. Either you’d be revered or rejected.
From Belquior’s point of view, if they were this impressed by a small spell, keeping his magic at this level wouldn’t interfere with his plans.
It was the moment he unintentionally became a dragon hiding its power.
But just because Belquior kept his power in check didn’t mean he was on the same level as a typical fire-type awakened hunter.
As more beasts emerged, he waved his hand again. Golden magic flowed like a stream.
Dozens of magic circles floated in the air, shooting black flames like arrows.
The beasts baring their teeth at Belquior were instantly turned into pincushions.
Skewered by flaming spears, the monsters dropped one by one without even a chance to fight back.
Park Doyoon and his team watched the scene. Park Doyoon didn’t show it, but it was clear he was tense. His teammates were in a frenzy.
“Wow, I knew that guy was strong, but he really does seem like an S-rank.”
“Can’t we just accept him as an official guild member? Our guild would shoot up the global rankings if we did.”
“Hey, you think other guilds would stay quiet about that? People are already filing national petitions saying Dochun Guild has too many S-ranks.”
“Those people are hilarious. Even if someone’s an S-rank, if they don’t want to go independent, they don’t have to. Why act like it’s any of their business?”
Behind the grumbling hunters, Seo Horang peeked his face out. He turned pale as he watched Belquior burst a monster’s head with his fire-wrapped hand.
“Note to self: never mess with that guy…”
Park Doyoon glanced at him. His mind was busy.
‘There’s no public info about that guy. Not even a name.’
It was strange that someone so powerful wasn’t already well-known. Why did the guild leader place him next to Hunter Yoo Eunsae?
‘Who is that guy, and where did he come from? How does Hunter Yoo Eunsae even know him?’
His thoughts swirled, and a cold sweat trickled down his forehead. Just imagining what would happen if Belquior turned against them gave him chills.
Sure, it would be reassuring to have him around if China suddenly attacked. But what if China convinced him to join their side?
As the team leader, Park Doyoon didn’t know how to handle Belquior.
Eunsae, having just planted her staff in the ground, put her hands on her hips and looked around.
“All cleaned up?”
Around her, the bodies of fallen beasts were piled like mountains. Seeing no more frightened faces, she nodded in satisfaction.
The wave was gradually dying down. The remaining hunters could likely handle it now.
‘It’s been three hours since my friends entered the dungeon… They’ve probably gotten pretty far, but I still have to catch up.’
“Are you Hunter Yoo Eunsae?”
Someone spoke to her while she was lost in thought.
“Oh, hello! Hunter Jo Ilsu. And Hunter Go Gap-young. Hunter Shin Jae-woo, you too—thank you for your hard work.”
Eunsae greeted the first-generation hunters with genuine respect. First-generation hunters were those who had risen to action right after the Great Upheaval began.
Jo Ilsu chuckled.
“We were watching from afar, and your skills are something else. I’ve seen you on TV a lot. Thanks for coming to help.”
“Oh, not at all. Compared to you three, I still have a lot of work to do. You all still look strong—why not keep going a bit longer?”
“Bah! That’s elder abuse, that is. But thanks for the compliment.”
Go Gap-young looked toward the glowing dungeon entrance in the distance.
“So, are you heading into the dungeon now?”
“Yes. My friends went in ahead of me, so I’ll be following them.”
“Be careful. When you get old, you start worrying too much…”
He gave her a concerned look. Eunsae felt a warmth in her heart.
“Thank you. I’ll come back safe.”
After Jo Ilsu and the first-gen hunters left, Eunsae gathered her group. Somehow, Belquior had already appeared at her side, first to arrive.
Beep! Beep-beep!
Seeing Eunsae, Spring finally squirmed free from Belquior’s grasp and let out a sorrowful beep-beep cry. Eunsae hugged Spring tightly and comforted her.
“Oh my Spring~ You wanted to come to me, but Mister Belquior wouldn’t let you~”
She gave Belquior a thankful look. He nodded and gently patted Star on the head.
Still, I can’t leave Spring behind…
Looking at Spring, who buried her face in Eunsae’s chest, not wanting to be separated, Eunsae looked troubled. Noticing her worry, Star fluttered into the air.
[Nuna! I’ll stick right next to you and take care of Spring!]
“Star, could you really do that? Spring’s still young, so she needs someone with her.”
Star declared proudly:
[I’m already a veteran, you know!]
“Okay. I’ll count on you, Star.”
Smiling, Eunsae signaled with her eyes to Belquior, asking him to watch over the kids. He gave her a slight nod.
“Team Leader Doyoon, and everyone—let’s enter the dungeon now.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
“As you’ll see once inside, the dungeon is a maze. Prepare yourselves to survive no matter what.”
With Star and Spring in her arms, Eunsae stepped toward the dungeon entrance.
“Let’s go.”
