Correction Chapter 63
For a moment, Jungmin’s movements froze. On the other hand, Youngmin rolled his eyes and clapped his hands as if he remembered.
“Ah, Shinwoo hyung! It’s been a while since I heard that name? Didn’t he go to America?”
“Yes, that’s right. I heard he became a doctor in America too.”
“Right. I knew he became a doctor. So. What about Shinwoo?”
Perhaps because it was a story about the son of their father’s former business partner and their mother’s close friend, though it seemed they hadn’t been in touch much lately, both of them showed considerable interest.
“I heard he’s returning to Korea soon. But it seems there’s a bit of a problem. I don’t think it’s for a good reason….”
“Where did you hear that news?”
“Shinwoo’s female cousin is in the same social group as me. She said her cousin is coming back to Korea soon but some problem came up, so the family is in an uproar.”
Shinwoo. Yoo Shinwoo…. He never thought he would hear that name again. And he never thought he’d hear the news that he was coming to Korea… He had been curious about where he was and what he was doing, but he couldn’t bring himself to look into it. He felt that once he heard news of him, he would keep searching for him, so he blocked it out himself. But to hear his name like this.
“My goodness… what kind of problem could there be. When Shinwoo left for America, I thought everything would go well. He was a good kid, so I believed he would do well in America too….”
“Mom, so you haven’t contacted his mother at all since then?”
His mother nods at Youngmin’s question.
“The last time I called was probably 5 years ago. Come to think of it, she said she was going to America to see Shinwoo then….”
“Hmm… I wonder what happened.”
Youngmin said that, but he didn’t seem interested.
“I’ll ask at the gathering sometime later.”
The family members nodded at the second sister-in-law’s words, and soon, Yoo Shinwoo disappeared from their conversation. But Jungmin, even after the tea time was over and his brother’s family was preparing to leave, stood on the terrace smoking a cigarette, thinking of Yoo Shinwoo.
“Jungmin.”
It was his eldest brother. Jungmin quickly put out his cigarette.
“Aren’t you smoking too much?”
His brother said, looking at the pile of cigarette butts behind Jungmin. He did clean them up every time, but looking at the ones that had piled up today… it certainly seemed like he smoked a lot.
“I’m trying to quit, but it’s not working out well.”
“Still, don’t smoke too much. If a doctor doesn’t take care of his own body, who will.”
“That’s true.”
His brother patted Jungmin on the shoulder.
“You have something to say to me, don’t you?”
“You’re quick on the uptake.”
“Haha, go ahead.”
“You know Karl Front’s son, Kim Joohwan, right?”
What is it with today. Names he had truly forgotten are popping up out of nowhere.
“Yes. Of course I know him.”
In truth, he was a person he couldn’t forget even if he tried. He remained so intensely in Jungmin’s memory that he would get angry whenever he suddenly thought of him.
“I met him a little while ago, and he was talking about you. Asking if you were doing well.”
“Aah… wasn’t that just out of politeness?”
The last time they met was at that hotel. After declaring they would never see each other again, they really hadn’t met for several years. They never ran into each other on the street, nor did they see each other at gatherings. Rumor had it that after finishing all his business studies in Korea, he had moved to Germany. They said he had started his formal heir training there. He had heard that if he came back to Korea, he would be a huge figure… had he returned to Korea?
“I don’t think so. He asked about you in detail.”
Still a disagreeable bastard.
“And he said he’d like to have a meal with you sometime. How about it. Should I arrange it?”
This means….
“It’s related to company business, isn’t it?”
“…Haa. I’m sorry.”
His brother patted Jungmin’s shoulder.
“Our expansion into the Arab market isn’t progressing very well. We’re too far in to give up, so we can’t quit, and we’re trying to pull in some funds, and we need Karl Front’s help for that. While we were discussing it, Kim Joohwan came to Korea. The talks were going well, and we were just left with the final coordination, but he kept talking about you. It seemed like he was asking me to let him meet you.”
He hadn’t changed his contact number since then, nor had he blocked that bastard’s phone number. If he wanted to contact him, he could have, but for him to come at it like this… it was clearly a form of pressure. Why on earth was he applying this kind of pressure? Ah, if it’s Kim Joohwan, it’s possible. This is a game. Just a game where he wants to put him on the palm of his hand and roll him around.
“Then I have no choice. I’m never of any help to you, brother… if even this can be of help, I should do it.”
“Thank you for saying that. There’s nothing to be gained from being on bad terms with Karl Front. For your own sake, it would be good to build a good relationship with Kim Joohwan.”
It’s far too late for that already… but since he knows nothing, he can say such things.
“Yes, I understand.”
His brother said thank you once more and went down to the first floor. Watching his brothers leave the house, Jungmin took out a new cigarette and put it in his mouth. One way or another, the timing is impeccable. Kim Joohwan and Yoo Shinwoo. It felt like a sign that a storm was about to rage over land that had been quiet for a while, but then Jungmin laughed. No way. Would something like that happen? Too much time has passed now, and too many things have changed. He can’t go back to that time.
✽✽✽
Two days later, he got a call from his brother, informing him that a meeting with Kim Joohwan had been arranged. The man hadn’t contacted Jungmin even if it killed him, arranging and proceeding with all appointments only through his brother. The meeting place was the restaurant of the hotel where he had last met Kim Joohwan, and the time was set for the evening.
When he arrived at the hotel, he was guided by the manager to a prepared table. Usually, such meetings were always held in a private room, but for some reason, it was in an open space, right in the middle of the hall, where one could see everyone coming in and out of the restaurant.
As he was sipping a glass of water and looking out the window, he heard a commotion from the entrance. He knew who had arrived without even looking. The atmosphere had changed in an instant. The oppressive air of this dominant Alpha is still the same.
The sound of heavy, oppressive footsteps approached Jungmin. Soon, the manager pulled out a chair, and a man stood in front of Jungmin.
“It’s been a long time. sunbae.”
The voice had a bit more maturity than the one he remembered. The voice, with its low bass yet not entirely low tone, greeted him with clear pronunciation.
“It has been a long time.”
The face he looked up at to greet him was, as expected, a bit more defined than he remembered. A handsomely refined appearance and deep-set eyes. His broad shoulders and a height that looked to be over 190 cm supporting a solid body were enough to overwhelm the place.
Kim Joohwan did not sit in the chair but extended his hand to Jungmin.
“Let’s shake.”
What is this now. Jungmin sighed, stood up, took his hand, and shook it.
“Sunbae, you don’t have that childish look anymore, do you?”
“You’ve gotten much older too.”
“Haha.”
Kim Joohwan laughed heartily and sat down in the chair. Soon, waiters approached and poured champagne.
“I pre-ordered the food when I made the reservation, is that okay?”
“Sure.”
Jungmin just wanted to eat quickly and leave. If he had his way, he wanted to say, ‘You’ve seen my face, right? I’m leaving now,’ and get up and go, but he held it in, thinking of his brother’s face.
“Don’t make that face like you’re holding back, sunbae. It’s disappointing.”
“When did I?”
“If not, then I’m glad. It’s been a while since we’ve met, aren’t you curious about anything?”
“Well. You’re alive, so that’s enough? I guess.”
“If I had died, would you have come to my funeral?”
“I would have done that much. But I never wished for you to die.”
“Wow, after you cut me off so coldly back then, I thought you wouldn’t care even if I died. I almost misunderstood. You could have contacted me once, so heartless.”
He wanted to tell him to think about what he did… but if he did, he might have to recall the situation of that day again, so Jungmin held it in. No matter how much time had passed, the wound from that situation itself had not disappeared. It was still one of the things he didn’t want to remember.
“I saw your interview in a medical-related magazine a while ago. Your paper was published too… I’m glad that work seems to suit your aptitude.”
“I find it rewarding.”
Dishes were steadily placed on the table. He must have ordered something incredible, as the plates came out endlessly.
“Why did you order so much?”
“For starters, I ordered everything that sunbae likes. Nice of me, right?”
Crazy bastard.
