No, that can’t be. Dana shook her head vigorously. There was no way that could be true. It was probably just her imagination. The claim that everything would turn out exactly as she wished, that was nothing more than the sweet lies Carl had been telling her all along.

Right. That money-crazed man wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t have pushed this business if he knew it would fail. A man who would even be willing to kill his own niece to seize her inheritance would never do something that would put himself at a loss.

Dana steeled herself. Don’t be fooled. That man’s kindness was all fake. Don’t be swayed or shaken. Right. The fact that I’m even worrying about this means I’m already being swayed.

It couldn’t possibly be true. Even if Carl knew all her intentions, it wouldn’t affect her plans. Carl had already purchased the Kaltusa territory, was on the verge of launching a massive territorial development project, and was preparing to begin mining operations at the Retillan mine. So even if he realized it now, it was already too late.

Dana desperately wished for Carl Windsor to fall quickly, be driven out of the Windsor family, and disappear from her sight. So that he wouldn’t confuse her like now…

A week had passed since then. During that time, she received a letter from Raios.

[Where’s my thank-you gift?]

Ridiculous. A thank-you gift, my foot. From what she’d heard, he’d given the Windsor family considerable support during the trial. So why was he making such a big deal out of it? He did it all for his own pride, but expecting to be thanked for it now? If he really wanted something, he should ask Viego Windsor, the patriarch of the family. And so, she didn’t even bother replying.

It was when the murder case involving Noah Windsor, which had caused such a commotion through society, was gradually fading from people’s memories.

“Milady, do you remember that girl?” Lethe brought some news.

“Who?”

“The girl you brought back from the Kaltusa territory.”

Ah. Dana belatedly remembered the girl. He meant the girl who had nearly been offered as a human sacrifice.

Lethe handed over some documents. “These are the results of her recent medical examination. Her condition has gradually improved, and they say she’ll soon recover to the point where she can communicate with others.”

“That’s a relief.”

“Should I bring her here once she’s recovered?”

“Yes, please do that.”

Before leaving this world, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make sure that girl could receive the benefits of the Windsor Foundation.

That wasn’t the only news she received that day.

“Lady, His Highness has summoned you to the imperial palace.”

A messenger from Raios had arrived.

“So please make your preparations immediately.”

Dana was dumbfounded. Is he seriously taking revenge on me just because I didn’t send him a thank-you gift?

“I can’t go because I’m unwell. I have even been bedridden recently.”

“It’s an order from the crown prince. Even if you have to fall ill, do so after arriving at the imperial palace.”

“…”

How annoying. Reluctantly getting up, Dana found herself thinking. Perhaps this is another reason why I want to leave. Even if she hadn’t discovered Raios and Allice’s affair, perhaps she would have eventually left this world simply because she couldn’t stand this damned rule that she had to unconditionally submit whenever a member of the imperial family issued an order.

“What’s this all about?” The moment she entered Raios’s room, Dana demanded. “Get to the point.” She skipped the greetings. After all, she wanted to get on his bad side.

At her blunt, confrontational tone, Raios, who was sitting on the sofa smoking a cigar, furrowed his brow. “It seems you’ve forgotten all the manners you learned in this world.”

“Unfortunately, that seems to be the case.”

Unusually, Dana picked a fight first. However, perhaps Raios had no intention of arguing, for he calmly gestured to the sofa beside him. “Sit.”

“…”

A wave of humiliation suddenly washed over her. Come when told to come, sit when told to sit. Does he think I’m his pet?

“I don’t want to.”

“What?”

“I don’t want to sit. I’ll stand here and listen, so go ahead.”

Raios looked at her with an assessing gaze before casually asking. “Are you throwing a tantrum right now?”

“…What did you say?”

“Not only did you fail to give me a thank-you gift, but now you’re being spiteful.”

“…”

“Is this how you repay me for saving your cute little brother?”

Dana didn’t respond. Though insults and rebuttals had reached the tip of her tongue, she didn’t want to deal with him, so she simply swallowed them all.

“Sit.” Looking at her displeasedly, Raios repeated his command. “Come over to my side. And sit down.

“No.”

“Seems you lack learning ability. I wasn’t asking for your opinion.”

“…”

“Sit.”

By this point, she genuinely didn’t want to sit down. Absolutely not. The acting, lies, and feigned obedience she could easily display to others were impossible for Raios. She didn’t even want to pretend to submit to him.

“You’re very stubborn,” Raios commented with a smirk before tossing his cigar into the ashtray. Then he abruptly stood up and strode toward her.

“Ah!”

He suddenly lifted her up in his arms. Startled, Dana instinctively grabbed his hair.

“Let go of me!”

With his hair being grabbed, Raios seemed momentarily flustered. But soon he looked down at her as though he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “You let go first. Do you realize you’re grabbing the crown prince’s hair right now?”

“Let go first, Your Highness. I’ll let go if you put me down!”

“Ah, really? How about we both let go on the count of three?” Raios spoke as though making a joke as he walked forward. Then he stopped abruptly in front of the sofa.

…What? Why isn’t he putting me down? Isn’t he doing this to force me to sit on the sofa?

But Raios remained motionless in front of the sofa. He merely looked down at her with an inexplicable expression. And then…

“…!”

He sat down on the sofa just like that. Dana was startled when Raios’s thigh touched her bottom. He had sat down while still holding her!

Could it be that he’s doing this because I won’t let go of his hair? Dana quickly released his black hair and tried to break free from his embrace. “Let me go!”

But Raios remained completely motionless, still holding her in the same position. His firm grip made it clear that he had no intention of letting her go, leaving Dana flustered.

What is this man doing right now?

“What are you doing?”

“I know, right?” Raios murmured. His expression suggested that even he was confused, as though his mind couldn’t keep up with what his body was doing. “I didn’t particularly intend to do this.”

“…”

“Somehow, things ended up this way.”

What was he even talking about?!

Wanting to get as far away as possible from his firm chest, which was pressed too close against her, Dana squeezed her hand into the narrow gap between them and pushed against him with all her strength. “Let me go, Your Highness. This is inappropriate.”

“You don’t bother showing me any manners, so why should I?”

“I’ll scream if you don’t let go.”

“And who will come to help you if you scream?” Raios sneered, as if finding her remark amusing. “This is the imperial palace, inside my bedroom. Moreover, you’re my fiancée. It wouldn’t be surprising if something happened here. And no one can enter without my permission…”

As Raios continued speaking, his voice gradually grew heated. At first, he seemed to be joking, but gradually, his words began to sound more serious.

Don’t tell me this man…!

“Think of Allice,” Dana said urgently.

Raios responded calmly. “Of course. I always think only of her.”

“I’ll tell Allice everything!”

“Go ahead. Allice will understand everything.”

“Raios Geranze, are you really insane?!”

Raios didn’t reply this time. Instead, he roughly grabbed her hair. His pitch-black eyes blazed like flames in an abyss. It was that gaze she had always found so chilling.

In the next moment, Raios pulled Dana’s head toward him. His burning lips pressed against hers. Since she had anticipated this might happen, she immediately bit down hard on his flesh.

“…!”

But Raios didn’t pull away. Even as his lips were torn and the metallic taste of blood spread across his tongue. As if it had turned into a bizarre catalyst, he pulled her waist tighter, bringing their chests together, and he delved deeper.
