I’m Trying to End This Possession Chapter 250

Season 3
Danawin Windsor was dead. Three years have passed since then.
* * *
“Your Grace.”
It was one winter, at the Windsor Mansion.
“Lady Danae Windsor has just arrived at the manor.” The secretary reported to the patriarch. “Shall we escort her here at once?”
“…”
The fountain pen paused, but only for a moment. Viego Windsor nodded as he resumed signing the documents. “Please do.”
It had been three years since ‘Danawin Winsor’ died. And just recently, ‘Danae Windsor,’ had awakened at the sanctuary and, at last, arrived now at the Windsor Mansion.
Has it already been that long?
Over the past three years, a great many things have changed. Viego became the patriarch of the Windsor family and made the family more prosperous than ever before. He rose to become the leader of Daiana Church and spread the church’s influence far and wide.
The world Viego had dreamed of is coming. A world safe for Dana. But it wasn’t perfect yet. There were still elements of danger. Even at this very moment, inside this very room.
“Dana…” Carl Winsor, who had been seated on the sofa the entire time, set down his teacup with a sharp clink. “My niece is coming.” He smiled faintly. “How long has it been since my sister-in-law passed away?”
“Three years.”
“Three years. It’s already been that long.” Carl Windsor tapped the armrest of the sofa with his fingertips and asked, “Where exactly did you lay her body to rest?”
“I buried her in a sunny place.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes.”
“If you would tell me where this sunny place is, I would like to go pay my respects.”
“As I have told you several times, I’ve forgotten the location. I wasn’t in a state of mind at that time.”
“How unfortunate.”
Ignoring the sarcasm, Viego stared at Carl Windsor. Over the past three years, many things had changed, but no one had undergone a greater upheaval than Carl Windsor. Carl Windsor had become a different person. Once, he had been a merciless soldier, infamous across the continent. And now…
“These days, I can’t even kill an ant. My heart has become too soft. I don’t think I can lead the army any longer.”
With such excuses, he retired. Naturally, no one believed him. Emperor Wilhelm repeatedly tried to dissuade him, dismissing his words as bluster, but each time, Carl Windsor added even more bizarre justifications. Bovinophobia, claustrophobia, aquaphobia, anxiety disorder, panic disorder, insomnia… He piled on every excuse imaginable before finally retiring. And then he became the deputy head of the Windsor family. Though he had never shown the slightest interest in the family before. Viego could guess the reason. Even his purpose and plans.
“Uncle.”
“Yes?”
But Viego had no intention of stopping him. He merely made a quiet decision.
“There is a small problem.”
It was to use him.
“His Majesty has expressed a desire to take Danae Windsor as empress once she arrives in the empire.”
And to take revenge.
“And by His Majesty… you mean Wilhelm Geranze?”
“Yes.”
“Emperor Wilhelm Geranze wishes to marry Danae Windsor?”
“I have expressed refusal, but he does not seem to have given up.”
“…”
“It appears His Majesty once admired Danawin Windsor.”
For a fleeting moment, the tip of Viego’s tongue tingled. It was always like that when he spoke the name of his dead lover. It could not be helped.
“He admired her.”
Carl Windsor let out a scoff. “How laughable. He only ever saw Danawin Windsor before she awakened. When she was a little more than an empty doll…”
“So I hope you will persuade him, Uncle.”
“Very well. I have no confidence in persuasion, but I’ll try.” Carl Windsor left.
Left alone, Viego looked back down at the documents. But soon he admitted that nothing was registering in his eyes and rose from his chair. He walked to the window and looked outside. White snowflakes were scattering through the air.
Winter has come. It was a season that came every year, and yet to Viego, it felt as unfamiliar as snowfall after a thousand years. It could not be otherwise. Viego’s four seasons had been frozen ever since that day three years ago, the day when Danawin Windsor died in his arms.
Viego extended his hand. A white snowflake landed in his palm. It was cold.
She has returned. At last, the snow falls. To this place. To me…
Slowly, he placed his hand over his chest. Unlike his expressionless face, the heat of his heart was vivid.
She is not her. She is someone else. My lover died three years ago. Did I not grant her eternal rest with my own hands? Therefore, he must not regard them as the same person.
That was precisely what she had wished for. A new life. A new body. A new existence. She had wanted it so desperately.
“I-I want to go, t-to a new body.”
And yet Viego had bound her to his side, so she could neither have it nor reach it.
“Kill me, p-please, kill me.”
He had not killed her. He did not want to let her go. Even when she had turned into like a beast, when endless hunger and violence had turned her into something no different from a demon. He kept her tied inside his bedroom.
“Eat, Dana. It’s something you like.”
Feeding her as if she were livestock.
“You’ve got some on your chin. Come here. I’ll wipe it for you.”
Even loving and adoring her deeply in that state.
“Hey, did you hear that rumor? They say the church leader is raising a monster in his bedroom.”
“A monster that devours people!”
During the time he called love, she suffered as a monster. He had left her that way. Allowed her to be treated that way. Allowed her to continue living like that, as a monster, a demon, and a beast.
“I-I’m scared, Viego, I don’t want, to live like this.”
It was all his selfishness. And so Viego made a decision.
“Make me forget everything, Viego. Please.”
No matter what happened, he would prevent her from ever regaining those memories. To live a forgotten life. It would be a lie to say it was not frightening. But he could endure it. The worst moment had already passed. That night, the moment he killed her had been the greatest pain in his life. No day he would face while living could be more cruel than that one. And yet.
“Hello…”
Viego did not know.
“Um, are you my older brother? I heard my name is Danae Windsor.”
The worst moment of his life had not yet arrived. Because in this world, there existed something more dreadful than shooting your lover in the head.
