I’m Trying to End This Possession Chapter 94
Ignis’s deliberately forced, vile laughter echoed loudly through the hallway. It grew distant and eventually faded away.
Dana held back a sigh. She had deliberately provoked him into losing his composure. But she hadn’t expected him to go far. That he would try to kidnap her regardless of the bullets lodged in his body…
“…seems.” Just then, Viego murmured something.
“Brother? What did you just say?”
After scanning the room once, Viego finally met her gaze. “There’s a disgusting stench.”
“…”
Disgusting stench? The smell of blood?
Indeed, Ignis had lost a considerable amount of blood. Four bullets had pierced his body accurately. But… it wasn’t the smell of blood Viego was referring to.
“Surely you don’t believe what he said, do you?”
Viego replied as though he found the question amusing. “Is this supposed to smell like flowers then?”
It was terribly embarrassing, but she had no intention of letting him misunderstand. Dana stated firmly. “That man did it all by himself. Right in front of me, he—”
“By himself, in front of you?”
“Yes.” It wasn’t something she had done. That was Ignis’s perverted behavior. So Dana answered without hesitation. “That’s all. He just kept looking at me. But he never laid a finger on me.”
Watching a man experience the beginning, peak, and end of his own pleasure had been quite disconcerting. The one saving grace was that Ignis was extremely handsome, which made the experience at least a little revolting.
“…Go wash up and come to my room.” Whether he believed her or not, Viego retrieved his cane from the wall as he spoke. “That disgusting smell has seeped into your body.”
“…”
Watching his retreating back, Dana was certain. That Viego Windsor was angry.
* * *
A short while later, Dana arrived at Viego’s room.
“Explain.” He was drinking whiskey. “Explain everything so that I can understand. From the beginning to the end, all of it.”
And so, Dana began her explanation. “I first suspected Ignis during the carriage attack.”
Dana had traced the source of the bullets that had been used. It was coming from Count Cedric, a close friend of Raios. Although the bullets had been laundered through several different identities along the way, she had managed to trace their origins by painstakingly following the trail back. That’s why it was suspicious.
“Someone was deliberately leading me to suspect Raios.”
“Deliberately?”
“Yes. It was too easy to find out.”
Although she had spent an enormous sum in under-the-table payments to uncover the trail, that was all it had taken. It was something that could be discovered so easily simply by paying people off.
“If it had really been Raios, he would have used bullets with absolutely no connection to himself. He wouldn’t have used bullets whose origins could be traced so easily with enough money.”
Someone had deliberately scattered breadcrumbs to ensure that Raios would be discovered. They had orchestrated the whole scene to make her suspect him. Who would do such a thing? She had been pondering that question when there had been someone beside her who kept fanning the flames of her suspicion. So that her suspicion towards Raios would spread like wildfire. Making her doubt her own family, the Windsor. So that she could trust no one. It was as if they wanted her to abandon everything and leave.
Ignis de Windsor. That man.
“He kept saying things to make me distrust the Windsor family. And that wasn’t all. During the carriage attack, he hadn’t actually been hit by even a single bullet.” In fact, Ignis only got hurt when he shielded her while rescuing her.
She had tested her suspicions when they were already halfway to being confirmed. And just as she had expected, it had indeed been his doing.
“So.” After listening to Dana’s story, Viego tilted his head. “Why were you in that room?”
“To deal with the scripture.”
“Why didn’t you take the scripture immediately after finding its location?”
“Taking the scripture immediately would have been meaningless. He could just make another fake scripture.” Dana explained calmly. “So, I wanted to show that if he brought another fake, it would be pointless. If he knows there’s a way to prove it’s fake, he won’t do it again.”
Of course, there was a reason Ignis had been so confident in presenting the fake scripture as the real one.
“The ink in that scripture wouldn’t come off using ordinary methods. He must have used a special technique.”
“So?”
“If he had asked the Holy See to verify the scripture, he could have made it appear as though the letters had been written with holy blood.”
In other words, it could have been recognized as the real scripture. And if that happened, the Windsor family would have been annihilated.
“So, I used knowledge from my original place to erase it.”
It wasn’t difficult. Rubbing a paste made from baking soda and water could remove ink from paper. In other words, if it hadn’t been for her, the Windsor family could have been swept away by that scripture, and the family’s survival would have been at stake.
But why is he making that face? A surge of irritation welled up within her. She had gone to all that trouble to resolve the problem, yet instead of being pleased…
“…”
He was radiating such cold air.
Dana eventually told him this too. “…I deliberately provoked Ignis into making a scene. That was the only way to send that man to court and have him put in prison, wasn’t it?”
She had deliberately provoked Ignis and made him angry. So that he would harm her or cause a disturbance. Then she could have brought him before the court on those charges.
“We could hand him over to court for forging the scripture… but Brother has no intention of doing that, do you?”
Viego would bury this matter. Everything related to the scripture would be covered up completely, without a single word about it ever coming to light. After all, it was a story that wouldn’t benefit Windsor. If that happened, the reason for taking Ignis to court would disappear.
“But I thought we had to get that man before the court somehow. Even if it meant charging him with something other than tampering with the fake scripture”
She hadn’t intended to explain this much, but Viego’s expression was so displeased that she couldn’t help herself.
“There must be someone behind Ignis. And whoever that person is, they’ll definitely get Ignis out of prison. So if we keep a close watch on him and find out which force is trying to get him out…”
“…”
“Then we might be able to uncover the identity of Ignis’s backer, the group that forged the fake scripture.”
Dana couldn’t understand Viego. She had proven that the scripture was fake, and she had even devised a way to identify the people backing Ignis, who had orchestrated the whole fair. And yet he was still making that face. Everything I’ve done has benefited the Windsor family, hasn’t it?
“So…” After a long silence, Viego finally spoke. “You used that body of yours.”
“Huh?”
“And you even went as far as to provoke Ignis’s lust to achieve your goal.” Cold contempt flickered in Viego’s green eyes. “You took advantage of the desires of a man who wanted your body.” He twisted his lips into a crooked sneer. “Don’t you think that’s vulgar?”
Dana clenched both hands tightly. It’s okay. She was almost there. She just had to think of the deputy head’s ring and the holy relic. After all, she would be parting ways with this man soon forever. So, she just had to endure it…
“Even if that were true, would my vulgarity be the problem?”
Ah, but why am I so angry?
“Let’s say I just did something vulgar like you said, Brother. So what? Didn’t everything turn out the way you wanted in the end?”
What an annoying person.
Viego treated people as tools. He was only treating her like a human being because she was useful to the family.
Does he expect me to play the role of a competent aide, a saintess, and now even a chaste younger sister?
Dana found herself approaching his desk before she knew it. Her irritation had reached its peak. “Thanks to me, the scripture has been proven fake, the scammer has been driven out, and we can even find out who’s behind that scammer.” She gently pressed her buttocks down against Viego’s desk and perched there.
At that moment, Viego was looking straight ahead, not at her.
Gazing at his platinum-blond hair, which had been swept back so neatly that not a single strand was out of place, Dana spoke softly. “How could I have done any better?” She picked up the whiskey bottle. Then she poured it into the empty glass Viego was holding. “I’ve done every single thing you’ve asked me to do, Brother. I’ve done an excellent job, haven’t I?” After that, she snatched the glass from his hand and downed it in one shot. Gulp, gulp, the hot liquid warmed her throat as it went down.
Viego looked up at her, furrowing his brows as though he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
Dana gazed down into his eyes and smiled sweetly. Then she placed the empty glass back in his grasp. “So, please praise me, Brother. When you keep scolding me like this, I get hurt too.”
“That body belongs to Windsor.”
“Right now, it’s my body too. That’s why I always take good care of it.”
“You can say that even after what happened today?”
“It’s not my fault, is it? The only one who deserves to be called less than an animal is the man who couldn’t control his own lust and used me as a means to pleasure himself.”
The moment those biting words left her mouth, Viego’s jaw tightened. Coming from Dana, who always used gentle and considerate language, that remark must have been unexpected. But Dana didn’t stop and pressed on.
“The vulgar one isn’t me, but the man who secretly indulged in masturbation using me as his object… Wouldn’t you agree?”
