Resurrection Chapter 101 - Hyung, Get a Grip
“As long as you don’t break the golden rule, that bug won’t be dangerous for now. I’ll have to get it out of your body, so I’ll see if I can find another way.”
“Right, if you have a conscience, you’d better!”
Yoon Younghyun flared up, but Kang Cheoljun didn’t seem particularly sorry. Instead of continuing to pay attention to Yoon Younghyun, he grabbed Min Gongchan, who was trying to leave, finding it difficult to endure his thirst for blood.
“Wait a minute.”
When Min Gongchan glanced back at him, Kang Cheoljun flinched. Just from their eyes meeting, Kang Cheoljun couldn’t hide his look of unease.
Yoon Younghyun clicked his tongue, thinking it was understandable. Min Gongchan had clearly been suffering from extreme thirst for a while now. He had drunk Shin Rion’s and then Kim Yitae’s blood, but it seemed he had used it all up fighting the Yaksha gang. Rather, it seemed having a taste of blood just enough to be tantalizing was making him suffer.
Yoon Younghyun’s guess was correct. Min Gongchan rubbed his thick tongue against the roof of his mouth, feeling his throat burn. To others, it might have looked like he was licking his lips, but he couldn’t help it.
He didn’t know how hard he had struggled to resist the impulse to attack Kim Yitae when he had shown up earlier wearing nothing but a T-shirt. The situation had been urgent, so he had drunk his blood and, just in case, made him his thrall, but he deeply regretted that action.
As Kim Yitae had said, since I was going to lose Yaksha anyway, I should have just given up and not drunk his blood. Now that I knew the taste of Kim Yitae’s blood, just smelling his scent carried on the wind made my mind go hazy.
After desperately trying to suppress his thirst for blood, he now felt quite violent. Noticing this, Kang Cheoljun, with a terrified expression, quickly let go of the arm he was holding. Then, embarrassed, he gave a light, dry cough and said.
“Let’s talk for a moment.”
Min Gongchan followed him into an empty infirmary tent. Yoon Younghyun tagged along behind him. Kang Cheoljun looked at him as if to ask why he was following, but Yoon Younghyun just shrugged his shoulders.
Having become deeply involved in this matter, Yoon Younghyun had no intention of backing out. If he lent his strength to helping Yaksha, maybe Yitae sunbae would forgive him for harming Seo Heesoo. And it was also awkward to pretend he knew nothing after receiving a ton of rare items from the otherworld store from Min Gongchan.
Most of all, this was an opportunity. An opportunity to raise his ranking and make a name for his raid party.
Kang Cheoljun didn’t bother to chase Yoon Younghyun away. Instead, he took out a blood pack for transfusions from the medical refrigerator. He tossed it over and said.
“For now, drink that at least. You look like you’re going to cause trouble if you stay like that.”
“…Are you treating me like that too just because Kim Yitae called me a bloodsucking monster?”
When Min Gongchan spoke crookedly, Kang Cheoljun sighed. In his place, Yoon Younghyun let loose a nagging tirade.
“Take a look at your own complexion before you say something like that. You have to at least wet your lips to stop walking around looking so terrifying. It’s not like this one pack will satisfy you anyway.”
In truth, it was getting difficult to endure any longer, so Min Gongchan stopped his sarcasm and accepted it. When he tore a small opening, the scent of blood wafted up, tickling the tip of his nose. Min Gongchan brought it to his lips and sucked it down like a juice box.
Slurp, slurp.
It had been in the refrigerator, so it didn’t taste good, but it felt like his tongue, which had been like a ball of fire, was cooling down. He finished the whole thing in an instant and had to lick his lips in disappointment.
Watching Min Gongchan, Kang Cheoljun crossed his arms and asked with concern.
“It seems you somehow succeeded in Transcending, but what on earth are you thinking?”
“What do you think I’m thinking?”
As Min Gongchan retorted while throwing away the empty blood pack wrapper, Kang Cheoljun continued slowly, as if it were hard to be certain.
“Becoming a Royal, not even a Noble—are you planning to swallow the entire vampire guild whole?”
Min Gongchan responded with a chilly smile instead of an answer, and Yoon Younghyun gasped.
“You, are you trying to become the vampire monarch?”
Ordinary people didn’t know much about the vampire guild, but Yoon Younghyun, being a member of the Werewolf Clan Council, which was an arch-enemy of those bastards, knew a fair amount about them. Rumor had it that there was a monarch in vampire society, and it was on a completely different level from the laid-back position of the clan council president. He was literally an absolute monarch, so if Min Gongchan became the vampire monarch as Yoon Younghyun suspected, he could seize the power of the entire clan at once.
Of course, not just anyone could become the monarch. Kang Cheoljun and Yoon Younghyun weren’t vampires, so they didn’t know the exact criteria, but it was clear that Min Gongchan, a former human, couldn’t just snatch that position for the sole reason of being a Royal Vampire.
Foreseeing a bloody storm brewing in vampire society because of Min Gongchan, Kang Cheoljun began to lament, uncharacteristically.
“The world must really be coming to an end. A resurrection skill appears, a semi-immortal necromancer shows up. A regressor wasn’t enough, now some guy becomes a Royal Vampire. How on earth are we supposed to prepare for the apocalypse…”
At Kang Cheoljun’s uncharacteristic lament, Min Gongchan snorted.
“You guys won’t be able to prepare anyway.”
“What?”
“With Hwang Chihong in that state, you’ll be busy just trying to keep your own house in order. Above all, you don’t have the luxury of paying attention to Yaksha. You’ll find out from Tae Youngwoo’s prophecy, but a Monster Break is going to happen soon.”
At the words “Monster Break,” Kang Cheoljun uncrossed his arms, and Yoon Younghyun’s whiskers bristled.
“Is that really true?”
“Another Monster Break is going to happen?”
The last time a Monster Break occurred was three years ago. Although it was the dungeon era where humanity had no choice but to coexist with monsters, a Monster Break was still a great disaster for humankind. According to statistics, the damage caused by a Monster Break was said to be similar to that of a magnitude 9 to 10 earthquake.
Technology had advanced, allowing for a more stable response to Monster Breaks than before, but humanity’s future was not bright. The population was steadily decreasing, and the barren lands teeming with monsters, the so-called dark zones, were on the rise.
To that, Min Gongchan added an ominous note.
“The Monster Breaks that happen from now on will be different from before. Because the Black King is awakening.”
Min Gongchan spoke calmly, but Kang Cheoljun could not be. He grabbed Min Gongchan’s arm.
“The Black King is awakening, what on earth does that mean?”
“What do you think it means? It’s exactly as it sounds. The Black King has digested the nuclear energy he absorbed and has recovered from his injuries. It won’t be long before he soars up from the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Naturally, when that bastard awakens, Earth will become a battlefield for the Transcendents. Those bastards won’t go easy on us humans.”
“When exactly will that be?”
Min Gongchan sighed and reminded Kang Cheoljun of a fact he had forgotten.
“I’ve told you before, I know what will happen, but I don’t know exactly when or where it will happen. But one thing is clear—we don’t have much time left. You can tell just by how Yaksha has suddenly gotten stronger.”
“You mean the gods’ influence has grown?”
“Yes. They too are faintly sensing that the Black King has begun to awaken. From now on, everything will happen quickly, as if someone stepped on the gas pedal. The world will be destroyed in the blink of an eye.”
At Min Gongchan’s warning, Yoon Younghyun stepped forward and asked.
“Then what should we do?”
“We have to eliminate the Black King before he awakens and begins his activities. Of course, with Yaksha running rampant like that and Monster Breaks continuing to happen, it will be an extremely difficult task.”
Min Gongchan said it would be a difficult task, but his nuance was that it was nearly impossible. Kang Cheoljun asked a question with a confused expression.
“But you said Seo Heesoo is the one who destroys the world?”
Min Gongchan affirmed.
“That’s right. Because the crisis of destruction is right at our doorstep, Kim Yitae can’t be stopped from making Seo Heesoo reach the max level. When we’re in a situation where we all might die as soon as the Black King awakens, we have no choice but to rely on those two. But as I’ve said time and again, Seo Heesoo doesn’t save the world. He always betrayed Kim Yitae, us, and the world in the end. He always chose destruction as the final outcome.”
Hearing Min Gongchan’s grim words, fear crept over Kang Cheoljun’s face. He muttered, almost to himself, “The way to stop that is…” but Min Gongchan offered no words of hope. Instead, he smiled a smile that looked incredibly alluring, but was in reality nothing more than a bitter smile, and said.
“If I knew that, I wouldn’t have kept regressing.”
👑
After Kang Cheoljun left, Yoon Younghyun, feeling awkward being alone with Min Gongchan, followed him out. Even after they left, Min Gongchan remained where he was. It was because Kang Cheoljun had given him one more blood pack.
Earlier, he had been in a hurry and gulped it down, but this time, he intended to savor it more. But the more he drank, the more he thought of Kim Yitae’s blood, which had been sweet, warm, and full of vitality.
‘I shouldn’t face Kim Yitae for a while.’
Since he couldn’t be sure how long he could suppress this impulse, Min Gongchan decided to keep his distance from him. After all, he had his own things to do, and Kim Yitae would have to lie low for a while anyway.
Min Gongchan had urged Kang Cheoljun to get Kim Yitae and Seo Heesoo to safety. Yaksha would soon appear to retrieve the Trishula, and the Special Task Force couldn’t stop him. After that, it would only be a matter of time before Kim Yitae fell into his hands.
‘I should have gotten rid of Shin Rion’s body long ago.’
No, if he had, the Special Task Force would have captured and killed or tortured him. Confessing everything to Kim Piljoong and asking for help hadn’t yielded good results either. Those bastards wasted time trying to prove he was a regressor and were fervently trying to cover up the dirty deeds they had been committing using Shin Rion as a test subject.
Even if he were to dispose of Shin Rion’s body to keep Yaksha in check, it would still be a problem. Then Seo Heesoo would kill Yaksha, gain a massive amount of experience, and become powerful all at once. If that happened, there would be no way to compel Seo Heesoo. If something were to happen to Kim Yitae while trying to stop him, it would be a catastrophe from that point on.
