Resurrection Chapter 125 - I Don’t Know If He’s Alive
Of course, if the god refuses the meeting, nothing will happen, but Ulfheðinn is very interested in me, so he will respond if I call him from the altar. I planned to meet him directly, not Ulfheðinn in Heesoo hyung’s form, and settle the issue of the divine possession.
Most importantly, if Ulfheðinn responds to my call and appears at the altar, Heesoo hyung’s divine possession will be released. Then, Heesoo hyung might regain his senses and be able to prevent Ulfheðinn from possessing him again.
Actually, this was just my wishful thinking. I didn’t know what I would do even if I did manage to summon Ulfheðinn. But with no other clear solution, I vaguely believed that I would find some clue if I came to the sanctuary.
My memory was still useful, and I found the place where the sanctuary had appeared without much difficulty. The ruins scattered in the area were distinctive, and a huge pattern, like a Nazca line drawing, remained in the area where the sanctuary had sprung up.
It looked familiar, the same as the pattern that had been carved on the ground before the holy ground appeared. Thinking that it was probably Ulfheðinn’s symbol, I headed that way.
I had encountered several dragon tooth soldiers around here before. Thinking that it might happen again this time, I walked without letting my guard down. Sure enough, something appeared again this time. I thought, whatever it is, it can’t be worse than the dragon tooth soldiers, but I was wrong. A mass of rocks on the ground detected me and began to clump together with a roar.
Rumble!
“Damn it, it’s a golem!”
Ordinary people thought of golems as something like heavy machinery seen at construction sites, but in dungeons, they were one of the types of monsters that hunters loathed. This thing was ambiguous to be considered alive, making it difficult to kill, and it had absolutely no byproducts.
I heard that golems made of mythical metals like mithril or adamantium sometimes appeared, but usually, they were just piles of rocks or dirt like now. Naturally, there was nothing to gain.
I moved with Blink to try and finish it off before it fully formed, but it wasn’t easy. I struck the gathering pile of rocks with Lævateinn, but the rocks that seemed to scatter would just clump back together again and again.
I repeatedly struck the gathering rocks, trying to find its core. But it was completely invisible to the naked eye. I could roughly tell where it was through my senses, but no matter how much I hit the pile of rocks, it would only scatter, not break.
I belatedly realized that the rocks composing the golem’s body were no ordinary rocks. They were the rocks that made up the ruins scattered in the area.
“Enchant.”
I belatedly applied enhancement to my magic sword and struck the golem, but my response was a step too late. The golem finished its formation and took its shape.
Unlike a monster, the golem’s appearance was detached, with no roar or killing intent. At first glance, it gave the feeling of looking at a well-made giant statue, but it was strictly a living, moving weapon.
Crash!
The golem recognized me and swung its fist made of rock. The ground caved in, and dirt and stones flew up, stinging my cheeks. A direct hit would probably turn a person into a bloody pulp, and I felt like I would break three or four ribs. The only consolation was that golems were not very fast in their movements…
“Ugh!”
I flinched and retreated from the fist that grazed past my nose. For some reason, this golem could freely rotate its arms and waist. Its form was bipedal, but it didn’t just attack from the front like a human; its neck, waist, and shoulders could rotate a full 180 degrees to the sides and back. Because of that, I couldn’t predict the direction of its attacks at all.
I cursed and was about to use magic when I saw an astonishing sight. Several golems of the same type, not just one or two, were rising up around me. At a glance, there seemed to be at least five or six of them.
They were scattered, making it difficult to use area-of-effect magic. I needed to gather them in one place, which meant I had to move while casting. I sheathed my magic sword and ran between the golems, forming a series of incredibly complex hand seals.
The golems gathered to catch me, slamming their huge fists down at me as if swatting a fly. Feeling a chill on the back of my neck, I ran for my life, finished the casting, and uttered the activation word.
“Blizzard!”
Whoosh!
A snowstorm that froze everything in its path raged, and the golems’ movements faltered. I could see their massive bodies freezing white, but I couldn’t rest easy with just that.
I remembered that the sanctuary was buried underground and decided to use a somewhat crude method. I was hesitant to use it because it consumed an insane amount of magic power, but since Heesoo hyung wasn’t with me for a change, I didn’t need to allocate magic power to Resurrection. I had also confirmed that the dimension pocket was packed with MP recovery potions.
I poured out a ton of magic power and used a skill that boasted the highest level of destructive power among my area-of-effect spells.
“Meteor Shower!”
The sky churned with a dark red light, and black clouds suddenly appeared. From them, burning meteors began to pour down. They rained down incessantly on the area, striking the golems.
Boom! Cra-crack!
The golems, composed of the rocks from the ruins, collapsed as if exploding. Of course, if the core wasn’t destroyed, they would regenerate again soon. But the ground was a different story.
Under the relentless onslaught of meteors, craters started to form in the ground, and then it cracked with a crackle. Soon, the whole thing collapsed.
Rumble!
The golems, unable to support their own weight, sank to the ground all at once. I also jumped down on top of them. As expected, below the collapsed floor was Ulfheðinn’s sanctuary, buried underground.
It was an immense structure, just as it had been when it briefly appeared on the surface. The ceiling of the structure collapsed, and I fell along with the golems.
Of course, only the golems were slammed to the ground. My body, lightened by the golden feathers, descended slowly, and I saw the cores rolling out from between the shattered golems. Before they could regenerate the golems, I quickly drew my magic sword and shattered them.
After dealing with the golems in that way and standing up straight, I saw a grand structure shrouded in darkness. I had wondered why the ceiling had been so easy to break through; it seemed I had broken through a wide space that looked like a hall or a plaza.
Pillars that seemed to form a circular corridor surrounded a large cavity. As I approached it, I saw that it wasn’t just an open space. The spaces between the pillars were all corridors. Corridors stretched out in all directions, with no telling where they led.
At the bizarre design, I felt a sense of foreboding.
‘A labyrinth.’
While exploring dungeons, one could often encounter labyrinths. The den of evil where Heesoo hyung had been trapped was also basically a labyrinth, though its form was different. Still, that wasn’t a real labyrinth but the belly of a living creature, so it wasn’t that difficult to get out of. But this one looked serious right from the start.
I anticipated that I would have to go through unspeakable hardships to find Ulfheðinn’s altar. It would be a relief if it was just hardship. If I wasn’t careful, I could be trapped here for months, or even years.
As I hesitated, the Golden Emperor sent me a message.
—The Golden Emperor says that it’s not too late even now. He advises that it would be better to give up on Seo Heesoo, who might destroy the world, and find someone else.
The Golden Emperor definitely didn’t want to wander through a subterranean labyrinth like this either. But if there was one thing I could never do, it was giving up on Heesoo hyung.
No one but Heesoo hyung can defeat the Black King and grant my wish. Because Heesoo hyung is, and only Heesoo hyung is, the person I wished for. With the thought that I had no choice but to trust him, I stepped into the labyrinth.
👑
The IAC seemed to have stirred up a hornet’s nest. Seeing the people running around frantically, Kim Piljoong paused as he was about to enter the lobby.
If he walked without thinking, he was bound to bump into a passerby. Of course, that wouldn’t happen if he used the God of Light Speed’s ability, but he couldn’t use his powers in the IAC main building. It was an inconvenient place for people like Kim Piljoong, who were prone to overusing their abilities.
“A general summons has been issued, so I can’t not go in.”
Kim Piljoong muttered and walked slowly, avoiding the running people. When he stood in the elevator hall, he could feel gazes on him. It was understandable, since he had been defeated by Yaksha twice and almost died this time. As he was trying to swallow his embarrassment, the God of Light Speed sent him a message in a fit of rage.
—The God of Light Speed feels great shame at your worthlessness. If he had his way, he would strip you of your First Apostle status right this instant.
He shouldn’t think this way, but in truth, the God of Light Speed wasn’t very popular. His abilities were usually used for support. And for good reason; the God of Light Speed had no particular advantages other than being able to move at literally the speed of light. The variety of his skills was also pitifully poor. To be honest, it was only because it was Kim Piljoong that his abilities were being used to their fullest potential.
Kim Piljoong didn’t bother to say that and hurt the God of Light Speed’s feelings. Like everyone else, one should get along with the god they serve. Instead, he bluffed, pretending to be nonchalant.
“In any case, Yaksha is dead, so I won’t lose to him again. Don’t worry. I’ll put on a great show in the upcoming monster break.”
Seeing Kim Piljoong talking to himself out of the blue, a few employees giggled. Then, he heard a small whisper from behind him, as if someone was dying of embarrassment.
“Commander… they can hear you.”
When he turned around, Baek Seorin had arrived at some point. She pushed up her heavy-looking glasses and looked around.
Baek Seorin had only been scouted as the Okjamhwa team leader not long ago, so she didn’t know Kim Piljoong well. Kim Piljoong shrugged and said.
