Resurrection Chapter 33 - Call me your boyfriend
“Sorry, but I cannot do that.”
“Yitae, if you go outside alone and end up in danger……”
“Considering that the best time to ambush me was swarming with only those wolf bastards, the rumor has not spread yet. It is still fine for now. When I have the chance, I need to take care of my own business too. You should take care of your business too, hyung. Go out for some fresh air, and… get a haircut.”
I pointed to his long bangs, which were long enough to poke him in the eyes.
It looked frustrating how he covered his handsome face with his hair. It was also upsetting, as if he were hiding himself under his long hair. I wished he would not mind what people said about him being corrupted or whatever and present himself with confidence.
Heesoo hyung touched his disheveled hair, then spoke as if a hairstyle was not the important thing.
“Then at least tell me where you are going and who you are meeting. Just in case.”
“Ah, um……”
I thought for a moment about what to say, then brought up an errand that Heesoo hyung could absolutely not interfere with.
“A date.”
Heesoo hyung flinched, his eyes widening. I licked the grains of rice off my spoon and continued speaking.
“I am going on a date, for a change.”
Heesoo hyung hesitated before opening his mouth.
“I did not know you were… seeing someone, Yitae.”
“Of course not. We have barely been able to meet since you came here, hyung.”
“……I, I am sorry.”
“No, no, we do not meet often because we are both busy. We just meet once in a while to eat and catch up. We are more like friends than a couple, but I should at least report that I am alive. We will not be able to see each other once we start seriously leveling you up, hyung.”
“I see.”
“Anyway, do not worry even if I am late. Call me if anything happens.”
Heesoo hyung nodded at my words as I gestured with my chin towards my phone. Seeing him quiet down, I knew my excuse had been appropriate. I can use this excuse from now on if something comes up.
I scraped up the remaining rice and got up from my seat.
“Well then, I have to get ready, so I will get up first.”
Heesoo hyung said quietly, “Okay,” and I quickly went into the bathroom to shower. Having said I was going on a date, I was too embarrassed to just splash water on my face.
To avoid suspicion, I scrubbed myself clean, came out, dried my hair, and got dressed. I dressed to look like I was going on a date, not to have a showdown with some obviously suspicious guy.
By that time, Heesoo hyung had cleared the table, done the dishes, and was brewing a cup of coffee. He saw me heading for the entrance and followed me out with his coffee cup in hand to see me off. I slipped on my shoes, deactivated the various security spells on the front door, and said.
“I am leaving.”
Heesoo hyung did not say to have a good time. Instead, he gestured with his chin towards my waist and said.
“Were you not going on a date?”
“Yeah. I am going on a date.”
“Then why are you taking your weapon with you?”
I looked down at the magic sword dangling at my waist. No matter how much I dressed up pretending to go on a date, I could not go empty-handed. I did not even know what kind of guy that Min Gongchan was; how could I meet him bare-handed?
I had no choice but to bring the magic sword just in case, so I said, inwardly breaking into a cold sweat.
“The world is a dangerous place these days. I have to carry at least one weapon.”
“It is a longsword, so it will probably be cumbersome on a date.”
“It is just that the magic sword is what I am most used to……”
“You always leave it behind outside the dungeon because it stands out.”
The Golden Emperor had nagged me not to part with the magic sword, but it was a bit much to carry that extremely chuunibyou-esque sword around in the city.
Most hunters went around armed as if to show off, regardless of the time or place, but not me. I wanted to be as inconspicuous as possible, so Heesoo hyung’s point had some merit.
I rolled my eyes.
“Uh, um… actually, my girlfriend likes this.”
“This?”
“Yeah, me going around armed. She was very happy that I became an A-rank magic swordsman. Because she thinks I suffered for a long time as a jack-of-all-trades. She likes it when I show off that I am a magic swordsman, says it looks cool.”
“……Is that so?”
Heesoo hyung stared at me intently as if asking if it was true, but I did not engage in any more conversation. The longer I spoke, the more holes would appear, so I hastily repeated that I was leaving about three times and rushed out the front door.
👑
When the dungeon-borne virus ran rampant, the entire world trembled in fear.
It was already difficult enough to deal with the monsters that popped out from the other world, but now humans were turning into monsters and even attacking other humans. It was a terrible thing, like a nightmare becoming reality.
But as they say, humans are animals of adaptation. As vaccines and treatments were developed and administered one after another, the dungeon-borne virus did subside. Instead, another side effect emerged: illegal drugs using the monster virus.
In the case of the werewolf virus, it transforms a human into a man-eating beast resembling a wolf. Nevertheless, some people thought that the virus granted superior physical abilities.
They produced illegal drugs from werewolf blood that had effects hundreds of times more potent than steroids. Being an illegal drug, the risk of becoming a man-eating beast was high, but for people who had to enter dungeons and fight monsters, it was a price worth paying.
While most monster viruses had been eradicated, the werewolf and vampire viruses, with their advantages rather than disadvantages, tenaciously survived and continued to increase their hosts.
It was illegal for a human to infect another human with a monster virus, but these individuals secretly increased their own kind and even formed Clans.
Usually, a Clan is centered around a pureblood werewolf Clan Leader, and consists of people who have taken the illegal drug made from the Clan Leader’s blood. Funnily enough, it is a concept like blood brothers, and several attack parties took this form.
The gathering where these Clan Leaders came together was the Clan Assembly.
It was a place where only the real deal among the bastards who strutted around calling themselves werewolves gathered. They rarely met, and it was uncommon for them to cooperate. But once they formed an alliance, they could easily smash a Vampire Guild to pieces.
Of course, it is questionable whether they could still make such a boast after seeing the current scene.
The underground plaza, the meeting place for the Clan Assembly.
There, renowned pureblood werewolf hunters lay collapsed, groaning in pain.
“Ughhh……”
“Kuhh.”
“Geuk……”
Some had completely transformed into werewolves before their breath was cut short, turning into corpses. Only those who maintained their human form were still breathing, and even they were half-dead.
It looked as if they had just fought an all-out war with a Vampire Guild, but surprisingly, only one person was leaving the place.
Having faced dozens of werewolves alone, he did not seem to be in perfect condition either. He was panting and limping as he walked, and then, as if he could not go on any longer, he took a potion out from his pocket.
Judging by how it glowed on its own like a star, it was no ordinary potion. As he opened the potion’s cap, he muttered as if it were a waste.
“This is not a drug to be used on mere wolf pups.”
When he downed it, the blood that had been plastered on his body miraculously emitted light and evaporated. When the light faded, not a single wound remained on his body. Only his tattered hoodie and jeans proved that a fierce battle had been fought.
He threw the empty bottle away and continued walking. Upon exiting the underground plaza, he came to an abandoned railway track.
On the track, he quietly murmured an activation word, and soon a summoned creature walked out from thin air.
With burning eye sockets and nothing but bones left, the summoned creature was clearly a ghost horse. The man mounted the saddle of the eerie-looking horse and grabbed the reins. Then, he checked the time on his wristwatch and said.
“Let’s go, we will be late at this rate.”
“Hee-hee-hing!”
The ghost horse, as if alive, snorted and began to kick off along the tracks. Being a ghost horse, it was closer to flying than running, so there was no sound of hooves. The ghost horse galloped along the track at a sliding, fast speed.
About 30 minutes later, he was standing at a train station in Sejong City.
The people waiting for the tram on the platform were startled by the sudden appearance of the ghost horse and backed away. Some took out their phones to take pictures or record videos, but it would be useless. Being a ghost horse, it would not be captured on camera anyway.
He dismissed the summon, left the platform, and entered the train station.
As it was the train station of the temporary capital, it was bustling with people. He carefully observed the people passing by and snatched a young man of a similar age. When the man looked at him in surprise, he grinned back and said.
“From your clothes to your shoes, sell them all to me.”
The man frowned as if to ask what kind of nonsense this was. When a mana stone the size of a thumb was held out before his eyes, his expression changed. The man took the mana stone and pointed to a men’s restroom not far away.
“Can I change in there?”
The two men went straight to the men’s restroom and swapped clothes. The one who had been in decent clothes now wore what was little more than rags, and he went outside, overjoyed at his unexpected windfall.
