Resurrection Chapter 60 - Just Because You’re Precious
To be honest, I thought I was going to die. I was thinking that I would go back to that tiresome past again, but what happened?
It wasn’t Kim Yitae and Seo Heesoo who had saved me. The figures looking down at me were familiar, yet they should have been strangers.
The one growling as he poured potion on various parts of my steaming body was the werewolf Yoon Younghyun. The person watching me beside him with the world’s most stiff expression was Kang Cheoljun from the Special Operations Mugunghwa unit of the Yi-I-Cheong.
Min Gongchan realized they had rescued him and got up from his spot. He didn’t feel grateful. He only thought that he had been lucky this time. They must have been tracking Yaksha after learning he had appeared, right?
Min Gongchan wiped the saliva and tears that had trickled down while he was writhing in pain with the back of his hand and asked.
“Where’s Yaksha?”
At the abrupt question, Kang Cheoljun frowned slightly. Instead, Yoon Younghyun next to him said in a loud voice.
“Even you, covered head to toe in mithril armor, barely survived. Do you think Yaksha could have survived in there?”
“Did you confirm the body?”
“I almost got burned to death just pulling you out! How am I supposed to check when the whole place is on fire?”
“I’m asking if you checked.”
Min Gongchan recalled that Yaksha was as difficult to kill as Seo Heesoo. As a spirit medium, he was more adept at handling death than anyone else. It was no exaggeration to say that he was the closest being to immortal, aside from Kim Yitae’s Resurrection.
“Forget Yaksha for a second, if someone saves your life, shouldn’t you say thank you first?”
At Yoon Younghyun’s chiding remark, Min Gongchan gave a cold smile.
“You saved me for a purpose anyway, didn’t you?”
“Argh! I knew it would be like this. It wasn’t worth saving him while getting burned. I told you we should have just let him die!”
Kang Cheoljun glanced at Yoon Younghyun, who was throwing a fit with his fist raised, and retorted.
“We have to know what he is to decide whether to let him die or not.”
Yoon Younghyun lowered his fist, seething. Then he threw a question as if to say that Kim Yitae was the important one, not him.
“What happened to Yitae sunbae?”
Min Gongchan gave a bitter smile.
“He probably escaped with Seo Heesoo.”
“Really? Then he’s safe, right?”
“Probably.”
At Min Gongchan’s reply, Yoon Younghyun let out a sigh of relief. Then he looked at Min Gongchan and asked with eyes full of suspicion.
“You, what did you do to Yitae sunbae?”
“Why do you think I did something?”
“Because otherwise, there’s no way Yitae sunbae would have abandoned you and left.”
“In that fiery hell, he would have been too busy saving his own life.”
“But you said he took Seo Heesoo and escaped?”
“That’s because it’s Seo Heesoo.”
There was not a trace of disappointment in his calm mutterings. Yes, in the past, he might have been disappointed, but not anymore.
To Kim Yitae, Seo Heesoo was always number one, and everyone else was just riffraff. Even if he hadn’t dragged them into a trap, in an urgent situation, Kim Yitae would not have looked back for the riffraff.
Min Gongchan accepted that this was a natural thing for Kim Yitae. But the other guys looked for the reason he was abandoned elsewhere. Kang Cheoljun gestured with his chin towards this side and said to Yoon Younghyun.
“If that man was going around commissioning the murder of Seo Heesoo, Kim Yitae would have had no reason to save him.”
“So it was you, the bastard who made a request to me? You’re also the one who caused a ruckus in front of Dungeon 77 and even stormed the clan meeting to release demonic beasts!”
At Yoon Younghyun’s accusatory shout, Min Gongchan nodded obediently.
“Yes.”
“Wow, damn it! I really shouldn’t have saved him. I really shouldn’t have!”
While Yoon Younghyun was foaming at the mouth and flying into a rage, Kang Cheoljun narrowed his eyes. He asked Min Gongchan in a tone that suggested he wanted to make things clear.
“You said that Seo Heesoo will destroy the world, so he must be killed before that happens?”
Min Gongchan did not deny it. He nodded again.
“That’s right.”
Although Yoon Younghyun hadn’t specifically told Kim Yitae, Min Gongchan had put forth the justification that he had to protect the world by commissioning the murder of Seo Heesoo.
He predicted that since Seo Heesoo had escaped the demon’s den with Kim Yitae’s help, he would appear in the new god’s sanctuary, and he went around shouting that everything would be over if he became a Berserker.
Of course, not everyone accepted the murder commission because they believed his words. They were just tempted by the reward Min Gongchan offered.
Only the Yi-I-Cheong paid attention to his words even without a reward. A person who popped up out of nowhere was spreading all sorts of information, including the location of the divine archer Tigran, and mentioning the end of the world, so they felt the need to look into what was going on.
As a result, Kang Cheoljun was dispatched to the holy land and joined Kim Yitae and Seo Heesoo under the pretense of a coincidence.
“Seeing Kim Yitae’s Resurrection, I started to think that what you said might be true. If Kim Yitae keeps reviving Seo Heesoo, he could eventually get him to the max level.”
Min Gongchan shrugged his shoulders.
“Ding ding ding! Correct answer. Unfortunately, there’s no prize. Because it’s a story anyone can guess.”
“Is this also a story anyone can guess?”
Kang Cheoljun, who had asked in return, tilted his head and added another question.
“Min Gongchan. Did you come from the future?”
Instead of answering, Min Gongchan raised his eyes and stared into the empty air.
“…”
His gaze seemed to be wandering not in the present, but in the past or the future. Something like a distant passage of time brushed past him, and not only Yoon Younghyun but also Kang Cheoljun, who had asked the question, couldn’t press for an answer.
After a moment that felt distant, Min Gongchan suddenly dropped his head. Then he let out a deep sigh and replied.
“Yes. I am a regressor.”
👑
I was lying prone in the bushes of the swamp, watching the scene of Yoon Younghyun, Kang Cheoljun, and Min Gongchan standing together.
I didn’t have much MP, so I couldn’t move far even with Teleport, but fortunately, I found them before leaving the swamp.
The three people, who had taken refuge in the swamp to escape the firestorm, were talking about something seriously. It was not an atmosphere where I could reveal myself, act familiar, and butt in.
No, actually, even if they were chatting and laughing, I couldn’t have butt in. Because all three people there knew about my revival skill. That alone was enough reason to hide, so I didn’t step forward. Instead, I stared intently at Min Gongchan.
Seeing the blackened mithril armor rolling around next to him, it seemed that it had protected him as I had expected. Of course, even wearing it, he must have suffered from burns, but anyway, I was glad he was alive.
I looked at Min Gongchan with half guilt and half relief, then shook my head from side to side.
No, why am I guilty? If that bastard hadn’t been plotting schemes, Heesoo hyung wouldn’t have suffered such pain. The situation where I was almost abducted by Yaksha again wouldn’t have happened, and even if it had, I would have been able to handle it much better.
It’s as if all the trouble started because that bastard was showing off, spouting nonsense about knowing the future. So I don’t need to feel guilty at all!
But the scene of Min Gongchan taking Yaksha’s attack for me kept coming to mind. It was an attack from a fatally wounded Yaksha, so even if he survived thanks to the mithril, there would be aftereffects.
I was worried about how a civilian, not an Awakened, would endure it. I thought he would manage somehow since he was a self-proclaimed regressor, but for some reason, he weighed on my mind. It was even more so because his attitude had been strangely friendly during the few days I was with him.
From his perspective, he might feel close to me since he had seen me many times, but that’s not the case for me.
I sighed and carefully observed Min Gongchan’s surroundings. Looking closely, I saw a dimension pocket next to him. It was probably fine because he had been carrying it inside his mithril armor. But it didn’t seem like he had picked up my magic sword as well.
Is it stuck in the fiery hell? It’s a divine object, so it probably won’t melt, right? I was worried about having to retrieve it later. Considering how much trouble the national archer Kim Jewoo, who lost the divine archer Tigran, was having, I had to find it.
I muttered quietly in my head.
‘I’m sorry, Your Majesty. I had no choice if I wanted to live.’
As if waiting, a message came right away.
—The Golden Emperor is furious, asking if you even know you should be sorry.
‘I will definitely come back later and find Lævateinn.’
—The Golden Emperor laments that it was an item too good for a country bumpkin like you in the first place.
‘Your Majesty, no, you don’t have to go so far as to call me a country bumpkin… I said I’ll find it again, didn’t I?’
—The Golden Emperor says that it might be better for it to be stuck in a pit of fire than to be in the hands of someone like you with such terrible swordsmanship. He is enraged, saying that the thought of you rubbing mouths with a mad dog, forgetting that you had cast aside his favor, makes his head about to explode, and that he regrets choosing you.
“When did I ever rub mouths…!”
It was so absurd that I said the words out loud without realizing it. I hurriedly shut my mouth in case I was discovered, but my face was flushed red and blue.
It’s true that I hesitated due to some unknown sense of relief, but to say that I rubbed mouths. Is he even a god? Is it okay for his expressive power to be this cheap!
I muttered excuses in my head, but the Golden Emperor did not reply. It seems he was angry and went offline. It looks like he’s going to stage a silent protest until I retrieve Lævateinn.
Hah, he’s really hard to please. It’s my fault I lost the magic sword, but I can’t die from burning just to pick it up, can I?
If I had my way, I would have gone to find it right now, but I wasn’t ready. The fiery hell created by the Scorching Archdemon showed no signs of cooling down at all. On the contrary, its heat was spreading in all directions.
