Resurrection Chapter 75 - Did It Feel Good?

Author: nicotine

Not knowing what was what, Yoon Younghyun followed Min Gongchan’s lead and made the utterly awkward hand gesture. Seeing this, the otherworld merchant quivered its antennae, as if pleased.

Soon, the antennae moved in a motion similar to Min Gongchan’s, and a strange sound flowed from the center of its face. The Awakener system translated the language for them.

「Greetings, human. How did you know our language? Question.」

The translation, which made its professionalism questionable, was quite grating. Min Gongchan said.

“Greetings to you as well. I would like to see your wares.”

His way of speaking was quite stiff, perhaps to facilitate translation. Fortunately, the otherworld merchant understood him without difficulty.

「You have payment, yes?」

“As you can see.”

Min Gongchan gestured with his chin at Yoon Younghyun, who opened the bag and showed him the gold bars.

Seeing the brilliant gold light, the antennae moved violently. The otherworld merchant, with an air of glee, hastily turned and threw open the door to the shop he had come out of.

Min Gongchan naturally stepped inside. Yoon Younghyun, wary of the otherworld merchant, followed him in and soon found his jaw dropping in surprise at something that was realistically impossible.

The interior was enormous. From the outside, it was just a small stall, but the inside was so vast it was reminiscent of a large warehouse. It was so packed with goods in no particular order that it was a wonder how one was supposed to choose anything.

Nevertheless, Min Gongchan was unstoppable. As if he had been here a few times before, he walked with confident strides and picked out exactly what he wanted. Then he threw it to Yoon Younghyun and said.

“Take this for now. And this too.”

“What is this?”

“Can’t you tell by looking? One is a weapon, and the other is an enhancement item.”

“I know that. Why are you giving them to me? Are you planning to make me a porter again?”

Min Gongchan suddenly straightened his back and looked back at Yoon Younghyun. The words that came out of his mouth were extremely unwelcome to Yoon Younghyun.

“Because you have to fight Yaksha.”

Yoon Younghyun’s eyebrows twitched. He asked back in a tone full of doubt.

“When you say ‘fight Yaksha,’ you don’t mean me, do you?”

Before saying yes or no, Min Gongchan shared what he was thinking.

“I’d like it if Yaksha were dead, but that’s just wishful thinking. That bastard is the strongest necromancer in existence. It’s right to move with the worst-case scenario in mind.”

“No, fine. That’s all well and good, but don’t tell me to fight Yaksha. I’ve just barely scraped by into A-class, so it’s realistically impossible.”

Hearing Yoon Younghyun’s words, Min Gongchan, who had stopped, raised an eyebrow and said something that was neither a compliment nor anything else.

“You have a firm grasp of your own limitations, unlike how you look, huh?”

Min Gongchan’s words were clearly sarcastic. And for good reason; Yoon Younghyun hadn’t been able to see reason when he found out Kim Yitae had Resurrection. He had ignored the warning that Kim Yitae would be pursued by monstrous bastards, including Yaksha.

That action was not born from groundless confidence. To Yoon Younghyun, Kim Yitae was his savior, and a coveted partner he wanted to have one day. For such a person to also have a resurrection skill, how could he just watch him go to someone else?

Min Gongchan pinpointed exactly that.

“If you have such a firm grasp of your limitations, you shouldn’t have been greedy for Kim Yitae either. If you want Kim Yitae, shouldn’t you at least protect him?”

Since Min Gongchan’s words were absolutely right, Yoon Younghyun couldn’t argue back, even in his frustration. As if to comfort him as he stood with his fists clenched, Min Gongchan continued in a softened tone.

“Don’t worry. No matter how much money I have, I’m not stupid enough to invest in something with no chance of winning.”

“…Chance of winning?”

“Yaksha suffered a fatal wound from Seo Heesoo, and his body was burned in the fire. He’s also lost all of his gear, so now is our chance to finish him off.”

“Wait a minute, his body was burned in the fire? Doesn’t that mean he’s dead?”

At Yoon Younghyun’s surprised question, Min Gongchan shook his head.

“No, Yaksha is a necromancer. What’s important to that bastard is the soul, not the body. To him, the body is nothing more than clothes he can change into.”

What Min Gongchan was saying was extremely ominous, so Yoon Younghyun’s lips moved wordlessly. But Min Gongchan didn’t give him time to organize his thoughts. He threw the rest of what he was holding and made an unexpected proposal.

“If you’re armed with items, it’s not impossible for you to defeat Yaksha, so go and pick whatever you want. We’re going to spend all of those gold bars here today.”

Hearing that, Yoon Younghyun’s eyes grew as large as lamps. With his financial power, he wouldn’t be able to buy anything great even if he came to an otherworld shop. The only possession he had on him right now was the single piercing in his ear.

Of course, he would make a profit on his investment, but considering that an otherworld shop was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, it was a tearfully regrettable situation.

But to pick whatever he wanted?

Yoon Younghyun barely restrained the urge to prostrate himself and lick Min Gongchan’s toes. Then he summoned a sliver of reason, narrowed his eyes, and said.

“…Really?”

“Really.”

“Really, really? No take-backs on what you said!”

“I get it, so hurry up and pick something. We don’t have time.”

“Oh, how much time don’t we have?”

At the question mixed with anticipation, doubt, and excitement, Min Gongchan held up one finger.

“One hour. I’ll give you one hour.”

“That’s too short! How am I supposed to choose when there are this many items? None of them are even properly explained! It’s impossible to choose something in an hour when I don’t even know what it’s for. It’s ridiculous! It should be at least three hours. Ah, no. It should be about six hours, don’t you think?”

“30 seconds have passed while you were talking.”

“Ah, damn it!”

“40 seconds.”

“Ugh!”

Yoon Younghyun let out a scream and began to rummage through the items. In the process, he knocked over the items that had been piled up like a mountain above his head. The otherworld merchant who had been watching the scene swung its antennae around anxiously.

It took Yoon Younghyun a long time just to get out of there. Even after he got out, he had to listen to an earful of nagging from the otherworld merchant, but he must have thought that the shriveled-up alien was his only way to survive. Without being able to properly look at the swirling face, he grabbed onto the otherworld merchant’s cloak and shouted.

“What’s the rarest thing here? No. The most powerful one! The one with the highest attack power!”

The otherworld shop seemed to have a hard time dealing with Yoon Younghyun, who was large in both stature and voice. It clearly looked like it wanted to run away, but it seemed the gold bars were quite tempting. Looking out of place, it began to diligently serve the customer.

Watching them communicate using hand gestures, foot gestures… or more accurately, antennae gestures and tentacle gestures, relying on the Awakener system’s translator, made one laugh automatically.

But the face of Min Gongchan, who had been snickering, quickly turned cold. It was because he had seen what was at Yoon Younghyun’s core, making it impossible to laugh at him. As long as he couldn’t forget the memory of him holding Kim Yitae’s head in a pool of blood, he probably wouldn’t be able to laugh at him with peace of mind in the future.

Min Gongchan, who had picked out all the useful items early on and sat down anywhere, felt his eyes grow dim.

He raised a hand to rub his eyes, but instead of clearing up, his vision grew darker. Only then did Min Gongchan realize that what was covering his vision in blackness were the vengeful spirits.

The vengeful spirits contained in the curse cast by Yaksha were dominating his vision. Not only that, they had settled in his ears and were tormenting his hearing as well.

‘You can’t do anything.’

‘You incompetent bastard!’

‘Useless.’

‘Why don’t you just give up now?’

Min Gongchan persistently ignored all the negative words that buzzed in his ears. The jeering voices, unable to criticize him further, cursed and threatened him. Eventually, they began to rampage, letting out incomprehensible shrieks. Even though the voices were coming from inside his own head, it felt like his eardrums would burst.

Unable to bear it any longer, Min Gongchan convulsively grabbed a glass bottle that was rolling at his feet. The glass bottle, delicately crafted in the shape of a teardrop, was transparent, so its contents were clearly visible.

Inside was a liquid of a vivid purple color, as if blue and red had been mixed in exactly equal parts. Min Gongchan clutched the glass bottle and placed his thumb on the cap. To open the perfectly sealed glass bottle, one had to break the slender neck.

That meant once opened, it couldn’t be closed again.

He had to choose carefully, but Min Gongchan had already made up his mind. It was a necessary act, if only to control the vengeful spirits seething within him.

But it had to be after he had entrusted the future to Yoon Younghyun. Min Gongchan barely suppressed the impulse to break the bottle immediately and drink the liquid inside.

How long had he endured like that?

“Hey, hey.”

He came to his senses at the touch of someone tapping and shaking his shoulder. As he lifted his head, cold sweat trickled down his forehead, chin, and the nape of his neck. As he wiped away the sweat with his hand and looked at Yoon Younghyun, the other man said in astonishment.

“My god, look at all that sweat. Did you have a nightmare or something?”

“I guess so. I must have dozed off for a bit.”

“Are you really okay? Instead of being like this here, shouldn’t you do something about that instant death curse first?”

Min Gongchan forgot to answer and just blinked and stared at him. At the blank stare, Yoon Younghyun took a step back with an embarrassed look and cleared his throat with a hem hem.

“You told me to pick whatever I wanted, right?”

“I did say that.”

Min Gongchan got up from his spot and examined the various armaments Yoon Younghyun had brought, carrying them on his back and in his arms.
