Resurrection Chapter 76 - Did It Feel Good?
From the looks of it, he had been tempted by the offer to buy him whatever he wanted and had just grabbed anything that looked nice and had good stats. Still, this was too much. He looked like a wholesaler who came to pick up goods, not a customer. It was to the point where you wouldn’t even be able to carry it all out without a Dimension Pocket.
Sure enough, one of the helmets Yoon Younghyun had stacked on his head rolled off and fell to the floor. At the same time, all sorts of items piled up on his back came crashing down like a landslide.
Watching this scene, the otherworldly merchant standing behind Yoon Younghyun scrunched up his swirling face even more. Seeing his antennae twitch, it looked like he was about to launch into another round of nagging.
Yoon Younghyun also seemed embarrassed and looked back at the otherworldly merchant, waving his hands as if to say it was fine and laughing, “Haha.” Then he turned to Min Gongchan and spoke in an aggrieved tone.
“If you hadn’t given me such a tight time limit, I would’ve picked much better stuff. You only gave me an hour, so I just grabbed whatever I could. That’s why this happened. But you have to keep your promise. You’re buying all of this for me!”
At Yoon Younghyun’s demand, Min Gongchan clicked his tongue.
“No, I don’t think so.”
“What? Are you taking back what you said? I knew this would happen. I knew it when you changed your attitude after making me do all that request work before! You never intended to buy me anything from the start, did you? You were just messing with me, right?”
If he had his way, he would have liked to let the furiously shouting Yoon Younghyun wear himself out until he collapsed. But since time was short for various reasons, Min Gongchan promptly kicked him in the shin. It wouldn’t have done much to a normal person’s body, but Yoon Younghyun glared and yelled in anger.
“Ow!”
“I didn’t say I wouldn’t buy it for you. But, leave out the swords and blades.”
“What? Why? That’s the most important thing. That’s my main weapon.”
“Stop using bladed weapons when you don’t even have the skill for it. I know you’re doing it because you admire Seo Heesoo, but that doesn’t apply to you.”
“What…! When did I ever!”
Yoon Younghyun’s face flushed bright red as he protested, but Min Gongchan just snorted.
“I know it looked good to you because Kim Yitae praised Seo Heesoo’s swordsmanship to the high heavens, but you’re a werewolf. You’re a natural at hand-to-hand combat, so why bother using swords? A machete or something doesn’t suit you and just looks awkward, so take this chance to change your class to a fighter. Change your patron deity to the Beast of the Colosseum, too. That’s your best option.”
“Why are you bossing me around…!”
“Hm, this one’s not bad.”
Min Gongchan cut off the flailing Yoon Younghyun and pulled out one of the swords he had brought over.
At first glance, it looked like a cross. The blade was long enough to rival a person’s height, but the hilt and guard were proportionally long as well, making it resemble a cross. The fact that it had no separate scabbard and nothing that could be called an edge on the blade made it look even more so.
Seeing the bizarre sword, which seemed impossible to use in any ordinary way, Yoon Younghyun threw a question.
“What’s that?”
“You grabbed this without even knowing what it is?”
“The otherworldly merchant said it was rare, so I just picked it up. It’s not like I can figure out what it is by looking at the Awakened System’s description. Uklade? It said it was made of something like that.”
“Right. Uklade is a mystical material that can’t be found even in dungeons like this. It’s no longer produced because the race that could handle it was wiped out. This is part of the Clannad series, a masterpiece among weapons made of Uklade. Most of them were lost, but one of them was tucked away here.”
Min Gongchan couldn’t hide his admiration as he fiddled with the strange, reddish metal. He had been in and out of this otherworldly shop so many times, yet he never knew this was here. He probably would never have found it if he hadn’t brought Yoon Younghyun here.
Even for him, a regressor, life was always full of surprises. That alone was his hope, so Min Gongchan’s admiration turned into wonder.
Seeing Min Gongchan entranced by the sword, Yoon Younghyun let a hint of expectation show as he asked.
“Is it that amazing? Then are you going to buy this one?”
“Not for you.”
“What?”
Min Gongchan first placed the sword behind him and returned most of the items Yoon Younghyun had picked out to the otherworldly merchant. Then, in their place, he held out the items he had selected beforehand.
“What’s all this?”
“I told you. A fighter is the right class for you. You may barely be scraping by as an A-rank right now, but if you fully transform, you might be able to surpass your rank, at least while you’re transformed.”
At the mention of full transformation, Yoon Younghyun showed a look of clear distress.
“Well, I’d get several times stronger if I fully transformed, but that’s impossible. As you know, I’m a werewolf…”
Yoon Younghyun couldn’t bring himself to say that if he fully transformed, he would lose his reason and become a man-eating monster.
Werewolves prospered to the extent that they formed groups like clans, but one could not say their position was a respectable one. Their usefulness was limited to dungeons; outside of them, they were always pointed at. The world did not welcome those who could turn into man-eating beasts at any moment.
When you thought about it, the reason Ace One had been dismantled wasn’t Kim Yitae’s fault, but the fact that Yoon Younghyun had been infected with the werewolf virus.
When he was bitten by a werewolf, and the priest’s Turning failed, everyone insisted on killing him. Only Kim Yitae had argued that they couldn’t do that, insisting that all they needed to do was administer the cure.
Because of that, not only Kim Yitae but also the raid members of Ace One suffered many injuries while subduing him as he went on a rampage after turning into a werewolf. After being somehow restrained and taken to a hunter-specialized medical center to receive the treatment, it still took a long time for his condition to stabilize.
A few months later, when he returned to Ace One, his comrades were no longer his comrades. The other raid members treated him like an untouchable on the surface and feared him like a monster on the inside.
Only Kim Yitae maintained the same attitude, both before and after he became a werewolf. One couldn’t say that attitude was particularly kind, but in any case, he was the only one who wasn’t afraid of Yoon Younghyun.
Because of that incident, Kim Yitae left Ace One, and Yoon Younghyun, who had tried to hold on without him, also left. The faith and trust among the remaining members hit rock bottom, and in the end, Ace One fell apart.
Because of that, Kim Yitae earned the disgrace of being called a team breaker, and he himself had to wander through pick-up raids for a long time, unable to fit in anywhere. Even while wandering through pick-up raids, he had to endure all sorts of discrimination when it was discovered that he was a werewolf. Because of such things, Yoon Younghyun could not bring himself to say out loud that he was a man-eating beast.
In order to suppress his instincts as a man-eating beast, he must never fully transform. This was an ironclad rule that all werewolves had to follow. Since one could not maintain their sanity upon full transformation, they had to be put down, even by fellow werewolves.
In fact, the last time, when he had raided the clan meeting, Min Gongchan killed every single one of them who tried to fully transform. Once they became complete werewolves, they would be difficult to deal with, so he had snuffed out their lives beforehand.
And yet he was telling him to fully transform to get stronger. He was suspecting it was a suicide mission, when Min Gongchan held out a thin circlet.
“If you wear this, it’s fine even if you fully transform. You can maintain your reason without falling for any kind of bewitchment or illusion.”
“For real? You guarantee it?”
“Even the best item is meaningless if you don’t use it. If you want to keep your sanity, never take it off. That means you can’t take it off to shower, take it off because it doesn’t match your clothes, or take it off because it’s stifling. Wear it all the time, not just when you transform. Don’t take it off when you eat or sleep. If you do take it off…”
He swallowed the words, “It’ll be a problem if you lose your mind and eat Kim Yitae.” Naturally, the current Yoon Younghyun spoke with a face that couldn’t even imagine such a thing happening.
“Alright. I won’t take it off. I won’t take it off, so you guarantee its performance, right?”
“Don’t worry. Even if its performance fails, I’ll kill you before you become a man-eating beast.”
At Min Gongchan’s cold smile, Yoon Younghyun frowned. Paying him no mind, Min Gongchan began to haggle with the otherworldly merchant, who had been waiting, wriggling his tentacles.
He skipped over most of the items Yoon Younghyun had picked out and calculated based mainly on the goods Min Gongchan had carefully selected, but Yoon Younghyun couldn’t complain. If, as Min Gongchan said, a full transformation became possible, there was no need to use a sword. The werewolf’s body itself would become a powerful weapon.
The otherworldly merchant seemed to covet the gold bars greatly, as he accepted most of Min Gongchan’s mercilessly slashed prices. For some reason, despite being a merchant, he seemed unaccustomed to this kind of haggling.
However, he refused to back down on the Clannad series sword that Yoon Younghyun had found by chance, and one small, unidentifiable glass bottle. This was because those two were the most expensive items of all.
The sword was one thing, but he couldn’t understand why the tiny glass bottle was so expensive. Yoon Younghyun tilted his head and asked a question.
“What on earth is that, to be so expensive?”
“You’ll find out soon.”
Min Gongchan didn’t give a specific answer, as if he was too busy bickering with the otherworldly merchant. He played the merchant like a fiddle, not only drastically cutting the price of the two items but also getting a hefty amount of service items. He practically extorted an entire basket full of all kinds of potions and scrolls.
The otherworldly merchant, blinded by the gold bars, accepted the bargain, but he wiggled his antennae back and forth as if he didn’t know if this was a profitable trade. Judging by the words translated by the Awakened System, he was so flustered that one almost felt a little sorry for him.
“Human, amazing. First time I’ve seen a cheapskate like you. You’d do the **** of a ***.”
The translation was unclear, but he could fully understand what it meant. He was probably complaining that he was skinning a flea for its hide.
