The Only Woman in a Zombie Apocalypse Vol. 2 Chapter 49 - The Meaning of Yet Another Memory (2)

Author: Nikss

These past few days, Dayoung’s memories have been surfacing momentarily.

When the zombie virus spread, the real Dayoung’s life was truly like being trapped in mud. Whenever a new memory emerged, even though it wasn’t something she experienced herself, she had to struggle to break free from it, as if floundering in deep mud.

She still didn’t understand why she had come here, what the real Dayoung’s words meant, or what these occasionally surfacing memories were about.

But there was nothing Dayoung could do about it right now.

The original story had already been twisted beyond recognition, and there was nothing more she could intervene in.

Even though it had only been a little over a month since they met, all she could hope for was that those who cherished and loved her would safely make it to the ending.

She didn’t know what would happen to her when the moment of the ending arrived, but even if she returned to the real world, these memories would linger for a long time.

So now, in this moment, Dayoung wanted to love them without regret, giving them all the affection she could.

“The real Dayoung said we’d definitely meet again. Is her soul inside me? I have no idea how any of this works…”

After writing about yesterday and today’s events in her diary, Dayoung plopped down on her bed.

What’s the use of thinking about it? There’s no conclusion to be reached anyway.

Dayoung wriggled under the covers and fell asleep.

The next day, Dayoung charged the walkie-talkie and ear microphone she had brought from the military.

It was small, likely the same type used by Team Alpha, where Dodam was, and she thought it would be very useful for the scouting team.

Then, carrying the large military walkie-talkie that took up half her bag, she went up to the third floor.

“Dayoung, what brings you here?”

“I brought this from the military. You can ask Hayun oppa how to use it.”

“That’s impressive. You brought something like this?”

“Yeah! I thought it might help Minho.”

At Dayoung’s words, Minho smiled and ruffled her hair. After the incident at the gymnasium, the group couldn’t help but be cautious around Dayoung.

But seeing her bright, cheerful smile made Minho feel a sense of relief.

“We’re having a meeting after lunch today, right?”

“Yeah. There are new people, and we got new guns too. Not just the scouting team, but the cooking and management teams should probably participate in the training as well.”

“Our Dayoung is going through a lot, huh.”

“No, not at all. It’s nothing. Well, see you later~”

Dayoung went into her room and started scribbling various things on paper.

Now that they had weapons, it was important to train everyone to use them. She thought her memories of being a shooting athlete and training juniors in her past life would be helpful.

“Dodam, Hayun oppa, and I can take turns… One of the three should also join the morning scout. Ugh… This is giving me a headache. I should leave this kind of thing to Ian, this won’t do.”

Dayoung folded the paper she had been scribbling on and stuffed it into her pocket.

Lunchtime had passed, and the 16 of them, excluding the two out on reconnaissance, were sitting around the dining hall.

Ian had written on the paper, categorizing those who had completed military service and those who hadn’t.

「Completed Military Service:

Jangwoo, Seon Woomin, Kang Jiseok, Jang Minsik, Im Seojun, Lee Minho, Nam Yeowoon, Park Dodam, Jang Hayun

Not Completed Military Service:

Kang Yeonul, Park Ian, Song Jiwoo, Yoon Sion, Do Johan, Lee Jihu, Kim Dohun, Jeong Hanyeol

Capable of Shooting:

Kim Dayoung」

“Thanks to Dayoung noona, we got new weapons. And Dodam and Hayun hyung have joined us. For now, Dodam and Hayun hyung will join the reconnaissance team, and it would be good for Dayoung noona to also operate with the reconnaissance team.”

“Our Dayoung is abandoning the cooking team…”

“Jangwoo oppa, that’s not it… If I’m not out on reconnaissance, I’ll come and help. Okay?”

“Pfft. Just kidding. Don’t worry about the cooking team.”

The faces of the cooking team members, who had been preparing three meals a day with Dayoung, darkened for a moment, but they soon cheered up, vowing to make delicious food.

“Those who haven’t completed military service will receive firearms training every morning, and the reconnaissance team members who have completed service will handle morning reconnaissance. Dodam and Hayun hyung, along with Dayoung noona, will take turns helping out. And these are the walkie-talkies and ear mics Dayoung noona brought—they’re much lighter and more comfortable than the ones we were using before.”

“Ooh. Dayoung noona is amazing, isn’t she?”

“I just grabbed them because they caught my eye.”

“I think we can start moving tomorrow. Tomorrow, Hayun hyung will handle the training first, and Dayoung noona can join the reconnaissance. And Dodam will go out for afternoon reconnaissance.”

“While training, we can probably reduce the number of nearby zombies. Hayun oppa, I think that’s how you should train. Set the target as a zombie.”

“Got it.”

After organizing various things, the group began to feel a bit hungry.

They brought snacks from the convenience store and chatted while eating.

One might expect a group of quiet men to be silent, but the mouths of men in their 20s were lighter than expected, and they chattered nonstop.

Questions mostly poured in toward the newly joined Dodam and Hayun, and they gradually got to know the newcomers.

Hayun, who was older than expected, and Dodam, who was in the special forces team but was a regular soldier, were fascinating topics for the group.

Just as they were getting to know the two in depth, Dohun looked intently at Dayoung and spoke up, “But we need to have a party. It’s been a week. Dayoung noona!”

“Huh?”

“How about tomorrow? New training starts tomorrow too.”

“Should we…?”

“Wow!!!”

“I hope tomorrow comes quickly. Noona, what’s the concept this time? Personally, I’d like to see something like nurses or uniforms.”

Hanyeol clasped his hands together and looked at Dayoung as if seeing something enchanting.

It’s every man’s dream, right? Costumes like nurse outfits or police uniforms.

“Nurse? There are nurses, but…”

“Noona. Let’s go with nurses!”

As the group cheered and danced with shoulder moves, Dodam and Hayun looked at them strangely.

Just how excited are they to like it without a single exception?

Although the seemingly quiet Jiseok and Ian didn’t dance with their shoulders, they were beaming with bright smiles.

“Hyung Hayun. No matter how much I think about it, I just can’t imagine Noona Dayoung in a costume. They should have seen her shooting a gun.”

“Tell me about it. She handles a gun so well that if someone saw her, they’d believe she’s an active-duty soldier. Even if you said she was a shooting athlete, she’s just too skilled.”

“Hyung. Ever seen an M16A1 rifle? Noona Dayoung seemed to know all about that gun too.”

“I’ve seen it. But my unit was one of those switched over to the K2C1, so I’ve never used one myself.”

“I think Noona has shot one before. Anyway. I’m looking forward to tomorrow for a different reason.”

Dodam glanced furtively at Dayoung.

There she was, laughing and chatting among the guys. Her bright, sunny expression showed no trace of the person from yesterday.

Seeing her now, so utterly cute and cheerful, he found it hard to believe the story Dohun told at the convenience store, or even the moans he’d heard from Dayoung in the next shop.

“Alright then. Tomorrow, I’ll… try wearing the nurse outfit.”

“Hooray!!”

“Woo~hoo!”

The noisy chatter died down, and the group returned to their respective spots.

Dayoung checked the costume clothes placed in the sex room and wrapped up her day.

The morning at the mall was boisterous.

The inexperienced members were thrilled about handling guns for the first time, and the military veterans in the scouting team were excited about going on patrol with Dayoung. She couldn’t understand why they were so excited, but, well, if they were happy.

“I want to quickly learn how to shoot a gun so I can go out with Noona too.”

Sion, who had only seen Dayoung demonstrate shooting a gun on the rooftop, sat next to her during mealtime and said.

“Who cares who you go out with? It’s all the same. Those two shoot better than me anyway.”

“Still. There’s a difference between some boring guys shooting and Noona shooting!”

“Then, hurry up and learn so we can go out together, okay?”

“Okay! I’ve shot BB guns before, you know! I’ll learn quickly, Noona!”

At Sion’s words, the group burst into laughter.

Those who had completed military service laughed at the comparison between BB guns and real bullets, while those who hadn’t laughed and said they were good with BB guns too.

In reality, Dayoung was actually really good with BB guns. She also laughed, thinking about the real world.

After breakfast, those who hadn’t completed military service gathered on the rooftop to receive training from Hayun. The scouting team—Jiseok, Minshik, and Seojun—set off east with Dayoung.

Jiseok and Minshik were a bit hesitant about scouting east, but Dayoung wanted to quickly find a bottled water store by heading east.

Since the original story was already twisted, she figured she might as well grab everything she could from this side in advance.

The group was growing, and the drinkable water was limited, so they had no choice.

When they went to the gym, they didn’t search the area and only quickly set up barricades before heading inside, so the group had to start searching from the point where the previous search had ended.

The three of them walked for about an hour and reached the point where the search had ended.

Dayoung began to worry a little when even the barricades were completely different from the original story.

Originally, barricades were set up an hour’s distance away in all four directions only by the end of September.

But now, it wasn’t even mid-July, and barricades were already set up two hours’ distance away in all four directions.
