The Only Woman in a Zombie Apocalypse Vol. 2 Chapter 69 - Battle with Humans (2)
Knowing what Ian’s personality was like, Dayoung nodded her head.
‘Could it be that he acted out a lot outside? Wow…’
Dayoung recalled what had happened yesterday.
Even though he clearly wasn’t the type to push forward, it seemed like his personality changed whenever he went outside with a gun.
Since she was aware of it herself, she fully understood what Ian meant.
“And if we call you captain outside, the guys’ attitudes will change. It probably won’t be bad. Of course, if you don’t like it, noona, there’s nothing we can do.”
“I think you’re suited to be captain, noona.”
“Me too. It doesn’t feel awkward for Dayoung to be captain.”
At the group’s words, Dayoung quietly closed her eyes.
Even a peace minister can quit if they don’t like it, but for some reason, Dayoung didn’t think it was bad.
Whether it was during school or work, she absolutely hated leading anyone, but now, for some reason, she felt like she could do anything well if asked.
Is it really because of Dayoung’s memories?
Dayoung stood up and looked at the group.
Since they were gentle and kind people, it seemed she could really lead them without any problems.
“Then… I will… take on the role of captain. But I am a fragile woman.”
“Oooh! You’re the scariest when you have a gun!!”
“Sigh. It seems I’ll need a lot of help from Ian and Jiseok oppa. For combat, I’ll need help from Hayun oppa or Dodam too. I don’t think being captain is anything special. I think we can just keep living as we have, helping each other. Please take care of me, everyone.”
“Wow! So cool, Captain~”
The group got up from their seats, clapping or approaching Dayoung, poking and prodding her annoyingly.
“Then, to celebrate me becoming the leader today, let’s all sleep together at the temporary shelter.”
“Okay~”
Although Dayoung said it was to celebrate her becoming the leader, everyone in the group knew.
They knew she didn’t want to leave Ian or Jiseok alone on a day like today.
The group quickly cleared the table, each prepared their own sleeping arrangements, and gathered at the temporary shelter.
Hayun, Dodam, and Theo, who were at the temporary shelter for the first time, followed the group around with bewildered expressions.
Upon arriving at the temporary shelter, they laid out blankets according to the number of people, excluding the two on scout duty.
Of course, the fluffiest and softest blanket in the very center was for Dayoung.
“Okay, this is our leader’s spot! It sounds so good. And specially, the spots on either side are for Ian, who stepped down from the leader position today, and Jiseok hyung, who stepped down from the assistant leader position.”
At Dohun’s words, Ian and Jiseok couldn’t help but smile.
Dayoung watched them and beamed, ‘They really are such good people, aren’t they?’
Dayoung pushed the blankets lying on either side of her blanket closer. Then, she slipped into the center, lay down, patted the spots on both sides, and called Ian and Jiseok.
“Lie down quickly. You were tired today.”
Ian lay down with a slight smile, and Jiseok, after hesitating, was dragged by Dohun and laid down in his spot.
“Let’s just hold hands and sleep today.”
“Huh?”
“Noona, that was so cheesy just now! You’re becoming weirder and weirder.”
“Pfft. ‘Let’s just hold hands and sleep.’ That line is so outdated.”
At Kim Dayoung’s words, the group, who had been lying down, burst into laughter.
Was it such a weird thing to say? Was it that lame?
As she sat there alone, pouting her lips, Ian and Jiseok came over and took each of Dayoung’s hands.
Two large, warm hands. The warmth from their hands made Dayoung feel unexpectedly touched for no reason.
“Let’s not think about anything today and just sleep. Okay? Starting tomorrow, I’m going to work you all hard. The rest of you too! Be prepared!”
“Isn’t this an abuse of human rights? You just became the leader and your first thought is to work us to the bone?”
Dohun’s pretty mouth started flapping, and Theo, who was lying next to him, smoothly pulled the blanket all the way over Dohun’s head.
“I told you not to talk to the leader like that. Hyung, please just sleep quietly. Okay?”
“No, why are you only doing this to me?”
“Because you deserve it. Now both of you, be quiet. We had a really tough day today. We’re sleepy, I tell you.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
At Dayoung’s words, the two fell silent.
Ian and Jiseok closed their eyes, still holding Dayoung’s small hands.
And for the first time in a long while, they were able to meet their younger sister, smiling, in their dreams.
The next day, the group spent their day as usual. They had a boisterous mealtime and went out for reconnaissance twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
However, if there was one thing that had changed, it was that to facilitate smooth communication with Team B in the northern area, they made it a rule to expand the barricade northward at least once a day.
For the group, the appearance of a new person was always an exciting and joyful event.
Just the fact that there were other people in this area besides themselves gave them extra strength to endure the day.
On the morning of the 22nd, Kim Dayoung felt a slight pain in her lower abdomen and checked the date.
Ah, so ‘that’ has arrived without fail this month too…
After Dayoung started her period, the behavior of the group towards her became noticeably gentler.
Although their actions were a little puzzling, Dayoung just accepted it. They’re just naturally gentle people, after all.
Since she didn’t have much menstrual pain, Dayoung spent her days busily. She went to the military base and swept up all the gas masks, then went to the long-awaited grocery mart and cleared out the display shelves for two whole days.
As the busy time passed, on the third day of her period, Dayoung, lying in bed unable to sleep, wandered through a shopping mall.
And even though it was almost midnight, she noticed a brightly lit bar and, without much thought, went down to the basement floor.
There, all the men were gathered except for the two on scout duty.
The men, who usually weren’t awoken this late, were all gathered together—not just one or two, but all of them. This inexplicably irritated Dayoung.
If they’re going to have fun, why don’t they include me? Why are they having fun by themselves?
Even if Dayoung was the same as usual during her period, she was especially sensitive.
“Noona is on her third day today, so there aren’t many days left.”
“But it seems Dayoung doesn’t have any cramps. My noona couldn’t even move when it was her time and just got really irritable.”
“Still, it’s a good thing it started later than expected. Just in case, we put sanitary products in Seojun’s bag and sent them, you know.”
Dayoung, who was about to go inside, hesitated at the conversation that started with Dohun.
What is this all about…? Everyone in the group knows about Dayoung’s period schedule. How on earth did they find out?
I definitely don’t have cramps, don’t get irritable, and shouldn’t have been obvious about it.
Dayoung wondered whether she should go in and act like she knew them or not. But she was curious how they knew, so she couldn’t resist and went inside.
“Oh, Noona Dayoung. Not sleeping, what brings you here?”
“How did you know?”
“Huh?”
“How did you know it’s that day for me!”
“Well, it was kind of obvious. Your vibe is different from usual. A bit more sensitive and scary. Your figure looks a bit different too. And since the management team cleans the bathrooms… Are you mad, Noona?”
“I have something called privacy, you know!”
Dayoung’s face turned as red as a ripe tomato, and she stormed out of the bar.
The group followed her, trying to explain, “Noona, it’s not like that. We were just worried about you. We even pre-packed painkillers, just in case.”
“Don’t follow me. If you follow me, I’ll never see you again.”
“Noona!”
Dayoung stomped back to her room. She flopped face down onto the bed, kicked her feet, covered her mouth with the blanket, and screamed.
Ugh!! So embarrassing!! So completely embarrassing!!!
Living together in the same space, and since Dayoung is a physically healthy woman, getting her period regularly once a month isn’t something to be ashamed of.
Since it’s a time when she gets easily irritated even by small things, it was somewhat comfortable that the group was being careful, making her period easier to handle.
But she felt irritated for no reason. Dayoung huffed and lifted her head.
Should I go up to the rooftop and shoot a gun or something? How do I release this irritation!!!
Just as she was kicking her blankets in frustration, Ian called for her from outside the curtain.
“Noona, come out for a second.”
“No!”
“Noona. Just come out for a minute. Okay?”
“…”
At Ian’s soft, low voice, Dayoung quietly sat up in bed.
Sending Ian as their representative was an excellent choice by the group. They had stopped Dohun from going to explain and sent Ian up instead.
“I’ll be here until you come out, Noona.”
“…”
Why on earth did his voice have to be so nice! Dayoung’s heart thumped for no reason as she walked over and pulled the curtain aside. Ian beamed at the sight of her and stared intently.
“Why are you staring like that?”
“Our noona is cute even when she’s sulking.”
“What are you talking about…”
“Look at that pouting mouth, it’s just like a baby duck. Want to go up to the rooftop with me?”
“Why go up there?”
“It rained a little while ago, remember? So it’s enjoyable and cool up there. Let’s go up, okay?”
Ian took Dayoung’s hand and gently pulled.
Dayoung pretended she couldn’t resist and followed him.
