The Only Woman in a Zombie Apocalypse Vol. 3 Chapter 88 - Everything goes according to God’s will. No, it’s according to mine.

Author: Nikss

Even when I shot it, it seemed like a small boar, but up close, it was as big as a man’s torso.

“What do we do? Usually in dramas, they hang it on a tree and carry it from both sides.”

“I don’t think there’s a tree sturdy enough to hold this weight. And breaking one that size would be a task in itself.”

The three of them weren’t exactly thrilled, despite having caught the boar.

“Ah, I have a tarp in my bag.”

“Why are you carrying a tarp?”

“For when it rains during reconnaissance.”

Dayoung pulled out a blue tarp from her bag.

Folded up small, it was just the right size for the three of them to use.

“This is long horizontally, so maybe we can put the boar on it and carry it from both ends.”

Hayun and Dodam spread the tarp under the boar and lifted it from both sides. The tarp was slippery, but it worked better than expected.

“How many kilograms do you think this is?”

“Looks about the same as Dayoung.”

“Dayoung noona? Then, hyung, you could probably carry it alone.”

Hayun chuckled at Dodam’s remark.

“Is carrying a person the same as carrying a dead boar? This is just like carrying a 40-kilogram sack of rice.”

“Ah. Really?”

“This is 40 kilograms? We’ll eat well today!”

“But once we remove the innards and bones, it’ll shrink a lot. We’ll leave the rest to Theo.”

While heading down the mountain earlier, Dayoung had cleared obstructive debris from the path and checked the route for the two coming down.

The three of them reached the foot of the mountain and sat on the roadside, catching their breath.

“Wow. I need another shower.”

“Seriously. I’m soaked in sweat.”

“Hey, I have something to tell you two.”

“??”

Dayoung thought now, while it was just the three of them, was the perfect opportunity to bring up the story about her time as a soldier.

“Um, that person, the Alpha Team leader. I’ve met her before.”

“When?”

“Noona did?”

“Yeah. Early June. You know those soldiers we shot and killed before? I was captured by them, right? Back then, a woman came to the gymnasium. She said she was First Lieutenant Kim Dayoung.”

At Dayoung’s words, Dodam shot up.

“That’s right! She’s our captain! What happened to our captain??”

At Dodam’s urgent words, Dayoung’s heart sank. Even though she was right in front of him, she couldn’t speak the truth.

“That day… she was shot… by the group’s leader…”

“Ah.”

“No way. Our captain? Shot and killed?”

Dodam couldn’t believe it. Sure, no one can beat a bullet, but the captain wouldn’t have gone in there without any plan.

How many weapons did she carry on her?

“What happened to that bastard?”

“After escaping, when that leader tried to recapture me by threatening Ian and the kids… I shot him dead.”

“…”

“That captain… told me that day. She gave me the location of an underground bunker in Gangwon-do.”

“The captain?? What else? What else did she say?”

At Dayoung’s words about the underground bunker location, the two grew a bit more anxious.

Did she know about their situation and tell her?

If so, she might have left other messages too.

“She said there’s a member named Dodam in the military, and there are others who’ve been called to the military. If I happen to meet them… to pass it on. To Dodam, she said: Thank you for trusting and following me.”

“…”

“Even though you’re the youngest and not an official member, you were always a reliable comrade. She said she wasn’t worried because if it’s Dodam, you’ll survive to the end. She said she was grateful all along.”

“The captain… the captain really said that? That I was reliable? Sob… why didn’t she… ugh, tell me directly? She never… sniff… said anything like that to me…”

At the sight of Dodam, sniffling and bowing his head, Dayoung’s heart sank.

All she could do was pat Dodam’s shoulder; there was nothing else she could offer.

“To Hayun oppa, she said she was sorry she could only tell him about the bunker, but couldn’t say where it was. She thought they could go there together…”

“Sniff…”

“She said to please take the people there. And then she told me the bunker’s location. I hadn’t regained my memories for long. When I was sick not long ago… the rest of my memories came back. I’m sorry for telling you so late…”

“No. It’s a good thing… that the last person Alpha Team’s lieutenant met was you.”

“And she said it would be best to find the bunker by March next year.”

“I’ll talk to the kids about that.”

“Okay.”

In the original work, Hayun had already arrived at the bunker before Ian and his group.

It’s presumed that Dodam was part of that group. And the final 10 chapters of the novel, which couldn’t be reused. The soldier who appeared there is presumed to be the soldier Dayoung.

Just as she had told little Dayoung, the novel ended shortly after Ian’s group arrived at the bunker.

Since it was an open ending, it was unknown whether they starved after running out of food, received help from someone else, or built a village and became self-sufficient.

But perhaps the ending wasn’t what she had thought.

Just as she had told little Dayoung. That they would arrive at the bunker, run out of food, and starve to death. But it was a bunker located under a mountain. With animals in the mountains, fish in the flowing streams.

A place where they could find food.

Dayoung felt a slight regret, thinking she had only told little Dayoung a negative ending.

Dodam cried for a long time, and Hayun just stared blankly at the sky. The soldier Kim Dayoung was like a presence that wasn’t there even when she was, but she felt somewhat fortunate that, even like this, she could deliver the final words to the two.

“Noona. Sob. Hyung. Let’s go now…”

“Yeah. Let’s go back home.”

The three started walking. Dodam tried hard to act like nothing was wrong, and Hayun and Dayoung pretended not to notice his act.

As the sun was gradually setting, the three arrived at the mall.

“Ugh! A wild boar?? It’s a wild boar!!!”

“You really caught it.”

“It’s huge… We’ll have to butcher this outside first. It’s too big.”

Theo showed them a corner outside the mall. After instructing a few members of the group to fetch water, Theo picked up a large knife and grinned.

“I’ll make sure you get to eat delicious wild boar meat! Noona, don’t watch this and wait inside, okay?”

“Okay. Thanks for the hard work.”

The three decided they needed to wash up first, so they took showers.

A little later, when the group called them to come up to the rooftop, they went up.

The rooftop was usually pretty, but today, seeing it set up almost like a campsite, the three couldn’t close their mouths.

“What’s all this?”

“Cool, right? I tried setting it up to lighten the mood a bit.”

“It’s amazing…”

It wasn’t like there were pretty lights everywhere like a real campsite, but there was a giant tent and several barbecue grills ready.

The group members were diligently lighting the charcoal.

“Look at this. They say if you stack wood here, you can have a campfire. Let’s have a campfire today too.”

“If I knew this, I would have brought some wood.”

“Nah. Earlier when we went out… we broke off all the branches from the street trees.”

“But aren’t you not supposed to break street trees?”

“Is that so? It’s state property, they say. So, if you shake a ginkgo tree and take the nuts, it counts as theft, right?”

“Yeah. But there’s no police to give tickets, and no citizens to report it, right?”

“True.”

While listening to the group’s idle chatter, Dayoung gazed at the neatly arranged rooftop.

“Unnie, unnie, you stay seated here.”

“I’ll help too.”

“No. There’s nothing for unnie to do. Men are supposed to grill the meat anyway.”

“You always say not to be sexist, but then you bring up men and women only at times like this.”

“Hanyeol oppa. Is that why you’re being mean? Don’t you want to grill meat for Dayoung unnie?”

“No. It’s grilling for you that I don’t like.”

“Wow, unnie, see how the oppas act? They bully me so much.”

Seoyeon buried her face in Dayoung’s chest, pretending to cry.

Dayoung patted Seoyeon’s shoulder, and the group sighed, glaring at Seoyeon.

“Okay, okay, the meat is here~”

Theo came up carrying a large tray piled high with meat.

Following him, Geonyul and Joohan, who had helped with the butchering, came up looking pale, carrying baskets.

“Why do they look like that?”

“Guess their stomachs turned watching the butchering.”

“Our maknae… ugh… was an amazing maknae… bleh.”

“Geonyul oppa! What are you doing, gross! Unnie, don’t look at that. It’ll ruin your appetite.”

Seoyeon covered Dayoung’s eyes and scolded Geonyul.

‘Hmm…’

Dayoung thought she might need to pair up with Seoyeon for a scouting mission sometime.

They hadn’t gone out together yet, timing hadn’t aligned, so perhaps that’s why Seoyeon treated her as so weak and fragile.

“Alright, since wild boar meat is a bit gamey, make sure to add these spices while grilling. Got it?”

“Okay. Leave it to us!”

Geonyul and Joohan passed out herbsalt and beer from the baskets to the group. The group set the beer aside, divided the meat, and placed it on the hot stone slab.

The sizzling sound and aroma of grilling meat filled the air.

Anticipation shone on everyone’s faces.

“And as you know, you shouldn’t eat pork raw. Especially wild boar—make sure it’s thoroughly cooked!”

“Okaayyyy!!”

At Theo’s guidance, the group tapped their tongs together and answered.

Today seemed like the kind of day where everyone could forget their worries and simply enjoy themselves. Those on lookout duty couldn’t drink, but they kept watch on the rooftop, looking around and sniffing the air.

Since they had taken care of all the zombies nearby, there wasn’t much to scout for, but just in case anyone showed up, they never neglected their daily lookout duty.

Among them were Hayun and Dodam as well.

Dayoung sat in a chair and gazed intently at the group.

As the meat cooked, everyone eagerly piled it onto disposable plates and offered them to Dayoung.

“Pfft. Let’s all eat together. How about we each take a piece of meat and make a toast?”
