The Only Woman in a Zombie Apocalypse Vol. 3 Chapter 89 - Everything goes according to God’s will. No, it’s according to mine.

At Dayoung’s words, the group picked up meat with their chopsticks, clinked them together as if making a toast, and then put the meat in their mouths.

There was the distinctive gaminess of wild boar, but it melted gently in the mouth.

“Noona, try dipping it in this ssamjang.”

“Okay. Thanks.”

Theo gathered the ssam ingredients and sauces and placed them in front of Dayoung.

There were as many chairs and tables as the number of people in the group, but everyone was too busy grabbing food straight from the grill to notice.

Seeing this, Seoyeon and Dayoung eventually joined them, hovering around the grills and starting to eat the properly cooked meat.

“I hope we can grill like this from time to time going forward.”

“We caught a big one and froze half of it, so we should be able to eat it at least once more.”

“Well done, Han Theo! Doham, Hayun Hyung, and Dayoung noona also worked hard to catch it. Thanks to them, we get to eat meat like this.”

“I’m glad everyone likes it. Let’s eat a lot today.”

“Now, shall we make a proper toast?”

The group poured beer, raised their glasses to the sky, and cheered for the toast. The alcohol went down smoothly.

Today was like that.

The unusually lively atmosphere lifted their spirits even more.

They were usually people who went to bed by 11 p.m., but not a single one left their seat until the day changed. The feeling of having returned to the old days lingered even after the party ended, and they lay down in bed.

Was it the effect of eating meat?

For a while, the group was proactive about everything. One of those things was the bunker relocation preparation that Hayun brought up during mealtime.

“Looking at the map, it seems like we could get there on foot in about two weeks. The problem is how to move our supplies. Should we split into teams and move things little by little, or should we pack up here and all move together?”

“Hmm…”

“Think about it. Since this is something that requires multiple opinions, let’s each think it over and have a meeting in two weeks. We’ll also discuss the method of moving and how to transport our belongings safely.”

“Wow. That’s tough. Considering the food situation, I think we should move. We’ll give it some thought too.”

“Alright.”

For the next two weeks, the group racked their brains. They thought while out scouting and while cooking.

During that time, Dayoung also encountered that monthly event that comes once a month, but she spent a peaceful time.

On the evening of the two-week mark, they had a fairly long discussion during dinner.

And the method they chose was to establish waypoints along the route. 200 km to the bunker. If they were to travel light without resting, they could reach it in two days.

Having two intermediate waypoints seemed like it would make the journey easier.

If they were to move, it was highly likely Team B would move with them. With a greater number of able-bodied men, there would be more people to guard each point.

Set up barricades as much as possible up to the first waypoint.

Their thinking was that if they made the distance between waypoints take no more than 15 hours, they could move more supplies than expected.

“If we use a cart or a quiet means of transport to the first waypoint so fewer people can move the supplies easily, it might get done faster.”

“However you look at it, it still comes down to physical strength in the end…”

“True. All we have is our bodies.”

Dayoung pondered deeply.

A way for most of the members to safely reach Gangwon-do. The best method would be to modify a bus and push through like in the movies, but the aftermath was a problem.

They might end up attracting even more zombies and having to drag them all the way to the bunker.

For a moment, Dayoung felt that the zombies here seemed more sensitive to mechanical sounds than human voices.

Even though they were talking inside the barricade, the zombies didn’t react much to the murmuring.

They should have sensitive hearing, yet…

Something, something felt like it was changing drastically. Were they being prevented from going to Gangwon-do?

But why? Shouldn’t they be allowed to go instead? If this was how it was going to be, why was I brought back again??

“Setting up a base doesn’t seem like a bad idea. Let’s discuss the details later with Team B as well.”

At Dayoung’s words, the group nodded.

As the long meeting wrapped up, along with dinner, and the group was clearing the table, the radio attached to Minho’s waist crackled and rang out.

—Hyung! Noona, save me!

Hayun’s voice echoed from the radio.

After taking revenge for Ian and Jiseok, they had given the radio to Hayun and left, but it seemed another problem had arisen with Team B across the way.

Minho quickly responded to the radio.

“Hoyoung? What’s going on? Shin Hoyoung!!”

—Attack… Crackle. Help… Crackle

“What is… this? An attack… Damn it. Who the hell are they?!!”

Dayoung swore roughly and slammed the table with her small hands.

Seeing Dayoung like this, the original group thought angry Dayoung had arrived and shrank back, while Theo and Seoyeon trembled and hid behind Ian.

“Oppa Hayun, Dodam, Seojun, Oppa Minshik, Oppa Jiseok, get ready to go out and grab the guns. The rest of you, reinforce the scouting around the mall. We don’t know what might happen, so stand by. Dohun, prepare the kickboards according to the number of people going. Minho, keep checking the radios.”

“Okay.”

“Alright.”

The group moved swiftly and in unison at Dayoung’s instructions.

Seoyeon stared blankly at Dayoung, watching her. She had thought maybe they were treating her specially because she was the leader and a girl, but that wasn’t it. Wow, she’s so cool.

Dayoung went to her room to change her clothes.

Looking at the clock, it was 8 p.m. Heading toward the back door on the first floor, she began calculating the time.

The northern barricade was roughly completed.

They hadn’t been able to extend it all the way to the police station, but it was finished up to the meeting road.

Without zombie interference, walking there would take four hours. From the end of the barricade to Team B’s building, there would be zombies, so that part would take three hours.

Riding kickboards would be much faster than walking.

Still, it would take at least four hours to arrive. Dayoung bit her nails anxiously.

Seeing this, Minho grabbed Dayoung’s hand. Dayoung looked at him with a puzzled expression.

“You were just biting your nails…”

“Ah…”

“I know you’re worried. But you’re the leader—you need to stay calm. Everyone is trembling with anxiety, you know. And I’m worried someone might get hurt if we rush. Team B is important, but you’re even more important to us.”

“Sigh… yeah. I’m okay now. It’s just… I got momentarily angry.”

Dayoung took a slow, deep breath. She couldn’t break down.

At times like this, the mindset of Soldier Dayoung was desperately needed.

“Noona, if we ride kickboards to the barricade at top speed, we can get there in an hour. After that, we’ll have to walk, but we can still arrive earlier than usual. Got it?”

“Yeah. I got it. Don’t worry. I’m okay now.”

Dayoung put on her ear mic, checked her firearm, and slung it over her shoulder. She filled the magazine belt with magazines and tucked a handgun into the waistband of her pants.

Everyone will be fine. Nothing will happen.

“Radio check.”

“Ah.”

“One, two.”

“Can you hear me?”

“Radios are good. Everyone, be careful going out there. Don’t get hurt.”

After the radio check, with Dayoung leading, the group headed out of the mall. Seoyeon watched them leave and recalled the peaceful times they had until now.

“Dayoung unnie is really scary when she’s angry.”

“Yeah. Dayoung noona is usually very soft and lenient about other things, but she’s a bit sensitive when it comes to matters concerning the group.”

“Ian oppa. I want to go on the night reconnaissance too.”

“Want to? We don’t know what might happen, so let’s split into two groups for shifts. One group will sleep early, and the other will do the reconnaissance rounds. The cooking group should go inside and sleep. The management group will assist the recon team.”

“Okay.”

Hoping with all their might that the group leaving the mall would return safely, the others tried to push away their worried feelings and began to focus on the tasks they needed to do.

Dayoung and her group mounted the kick scooters lined up in front of the back door, started them, and turned on the lights.

These were pay-to-use scooters, but Yeeun had hacked the program, making them freely usable anytime. She had also installed lights on them and even removed the speed limiters, modifying them to go up to 40 km/h.

They had said making them faster would be dangerous, but Dayoung now regretted not having told them to unlock the scooters to their maximum speed from the start, knowing what they were heading into.

“Let’s get to the end of the barricade at maximum speed.”

“Okay.”

The group mounted the scooters and started riding. 38 km/h, 40 km/h is faster than you’d think.

After riding for about 40 minutes, they were able to reach the end of the barricade.

“This is way faster than expected, it’s incredibly useful.”

“Right.”

The group got off the scooters, loaded their guns, and moved forward.

Since they had cleared out some zombies while guiding Team B to the mart last time, it took less time than the first trip.

As they neared the building, the group caught their breath and prepared.

“Let’s go.”

With Dayoung leading, the group headed for the building. The first building they encountered was the one where they had shot the group of athletes.

Dayoung sent Hayun, Dodam, and Jiseok to that building, while Dayoung, Seojun, and Minshik headed towards the building Team B had used as their lodging.

Upon entering, it was quiet, considering they were supposedly attacked.

Going inside, they could see the group gathered together, murmuring. Dayoung cautiously surveyed her surroundings in case of unexpected trouble and approached them.

Mihee’s father was lying among the group, and blood was soaking through a towel tied around his leg.

“Noona!”

“What happened? An attack? What happened to your father? Where are Jiyoung and Mihee unni?”

“They took them… Noona, huff… What do we do?”

“What kind of people? How many came? I gave you a gun, didn’t I!”

“It looked like there were about 15 people. Sniff. They pointed their guns… but… I couldn’t shoot. I was trembling so much. Sob. Then they took my gun too. Because of them shooting Mr. Youngseok… I couldn’t do… Sniff… anything… I couldn’t do anything… Noona, please save our noonas. Noona… Sniff.”

As Hoyoung clung to Dayoung and cried, three people who had been searching another building came inside.

“There’s nothing over there. What’s going on?”

In response to Hayun’s question, Minshik whispered briefly. The group’s eyes grew sharp.

“Hoyoung. Stop crying and pull yourself together. Do you know who those people are or where they’re from?”

“They’re people from the east. They set up a base over there not long ago. At first, they were friendly… We even exchanged greetings. What should we do??”

“Is it far from here?”

“No, it’s a three-story building across the main road. There’s a convenience store on the first floor. Sniff. About 150 meters from here? It’s roughly that far.”

While Hoyoung was explaining urgently, bang—a gunshot echoed from outside.

Dayoung hurriedly went out. And then bang—two more shots rang out, and Dayoung’s body stiffened.

Did they shoot a zombie?

Dayoung’s grip on the gun tightened instinctively.

“Hayun, lock the door from inside and stay here. We’ll go and come back. They might come this way, so make sure you lock the door securely. Understood?”

“Okay. Noona, please bring our noonas back safely.”

“I will.”
