Rejected by Daughter’s Second Male Lead Chapter 63
The source of the laughter was, surprisingly, Yuan. It was the first time for all three men there to see Yuan laugh so joyfully and excitedly. The emperor raised his eyebrows as if to say it was unexpected, and Marius stared intently at Yuan’s face, as if bewitched by something. And Gillen…
“Wow, Yuan! You look so pretty when you laugh like that! Keep smiling brightly from now on! It’s a million-gold smile that makes even me feel good, hahaha!”
He patted Yuan’s thigh with the hand that wasn’t holding Yuan’s and even gave him a thumbs-up. At that very mister-like reaction, Yuan’s laughter abruptly stopped.
“Why, it looked nice, why didn’t you keep laughing?”
“You’re annoying me, so don’t talk to me.”
What’s with him all of a sudden after laughing so well? Gillen tilted his head, unable to understand, but Yuan ignored him and looked up at Marius, who was standing right in front of him.
“Old ma… High Priest, let me be clear. I am in a romantic relationship with Duke Blake. We have no problem smelling each other’s pheromones, and we have had consensual sexual intercourse.”
“Wait, hold on, Y-Yuan!”
Gillen stood up abruptly in his fluster. There was no need to go so far as to say that in front of His Imperial Majesty and the High Priest!
However, Yuan paid him no mind and stated his position clearly.
“If you still remember me as I was before, you will have to change your thinking. I am now…”
Yuan paused for a moment to catch his breath and then spoke again.
“I am no longer alone now.”
Just because he had gotten older and stronger since then didn’t make what was scary any less scary. Yuan had just realized that. But having someone by his side, holding his hand and getting angry on his behalf… that made Yuan a little less scared.
“…Since you yourself say so, what more can I do? I am flustered that both you, Yuan, and Your Grace the Duke are driving me into a corner as if I were the villain. I am not your enemy.”
Marius smiled, raising only the corners of his mouth. Yuan noticed that he was displeased. He followed Gillen in standing up.
“Then that is a relief. Now, please go to the priests and believers and explain the situation accurately. A messenger or something, you said that was your role, High Priest.”
Yuan, who had spoken in an insolent tone that no one else would have ever imagined using, bowed to the emperor.
“We will take our leave now, Your Majesty.”
“Ah, yes. You may do so.”
The emperor gestured, holding back his laughter. It was permission to leave.
Yuan, still holding Gillen’s hand, walked out of the private drawing room, ignoring the stinging gaze of Marius that he felt from behind.
“Don’t say anything. What you just heard was the most polite tone I could manage.”
Yuan said as he strode forward. Gillen quickened his pace to stand right beside Yuan.
“I wasn’t going to say anything. You did well.”
Gillen grinned and gently swung Yuan’s interlaced hand back and forth.
“I’m starting to think it was a good idea to come together as partners today. Do you think so too?”
“…Hmph, not really.”
Yuan snapped his head to the opposite side and replied coyly. Gillen laughed hahaha beside him. It seemed he was no longer fazed by Yuan’s words at all.
It was at that moment.
“When on earth is His Grace the Duke coming out?”
“I want to see Marquis Hampton’s handsome face one more time…”
“Me too. I think my eyesight has improved a little, but it must be my imagination, right?”
From beyond a pillar up ahead, the conversation of some ladies could be heard. The two men, who had been walking with their hands clasped tightly, came to a screeching halt.
“Yuan.”
“…What.”
“By any chance… can you teleport right now?”
“Do you think my magic is some cheap potion that comes out as soon as you order it?”
Yuan retorted, glaring at Gillen. But at the conversation that followed, Yuan’s eyes slowly turned.
“When His Grace the Duke comes later, you have to push me properly toward him. Got it?”
“Yes, yes, I get it. I’ll push you so you land perfectly in His Grace the Duke’s arms, Laura.”
It seemed that the trend among omegas of collapsing into the arms of alphas had now become a kind of romantic cliché. Hearing the story of Laura and her friends, Yuan gritted his teeth. And at that moment, Yuan and Gillen’s figures disappeared from the hallway.
The place they had moved to was Yuan’s mansion. But it wasn’t a place like the drawing room or the hall, but a room filled with piles of books, experimental tools, and miscellaneous junk.
“A study… is it?”
The bookshelves that completely filled the walls were packed with books from the top shelf to the bottom, and books were also stacked like towers on the floor and desk. However, there were also many strange tools to call it a simple study, and glass containers with what looked like grotesque creatures inside could be seen.
In another corner, there was a fireplace, but inside the fireplace, a green fire was burning, not a red one. It was a gloomy sight to anyone who saw it.
“This is my laboratory. Why, is there a problem?”
Yuan let go of Gillen’s hand and asked sharply. Gillen waved his hands in denial.
“No, not at all. I was just asking.”
Since his hand was free, Gillen approached the fireplace. The scene of a green fire burning on perfectly fine logs was fascinating no matter how many times he saw it. It also looked like a fake fire that one would set up in a place like an amusement park to create a fantasy-like atmosphere.
“Why is this one green?”
“…It’s because I burned a prototype that had Arkalisan-Sarius solution in it. It’ll be like that for a few days and then stop.”
“What? Alkali-ssap-sarius?”
Gillen asked ridiculously and then laughed to himself, Ha! Ha! Ha! Yuan looked pathetically at the 40-something mister and then walked off somewhere.
“Ha! Ha! Ha! Isn’t it funny? Huh? Hahaha! Where are you going?”
Gillen followed Yuan with his hands behind his back. Yuan went to a long sofa in the corner of the laboratory and pulled a dangling cord attached nearby.
“I will tell the robots to prepare the carriage. You will need it to return to your residence.”
“You’re telling me to go home?”
Gillen asked, his eyes wide. Yuan frowned and retorted.
“Are you not going to, then?”
“I thought there was a reason you brought me to your house.”
Gillen smiled slyly.
“W-what reason?”
At Gillen’s lecherous expression, this time it was Yuan’s eyes that widened. Seeing that, it seemed he really hadn’t had any particular intention in teleporting here. But Gillen was thinking that it was actually a good thing he had come to Yuan’s house.
“Think about it. Duke Blake and Marquis Hampton, who suddenly disappeared from the party hall, did not appear anywhere all night. Lady Cecilia, who had arrived home, also worried that her father had not come home. In that case, where would the two men have gone so suddenly during the party? They would have gone to the Marquis Hampton estate to spend a passionate night. Wouldn’t a normal person’s thoughts flow like this?”
“A-a passionate night?”
Yuan’s face turned bright red. Gillen, pretending to sit on the sofa while looking around, secretly held back his laughter. At times like this, no matter how smart he was, his youth showed. He composed his expression again and said to Yuan.
“Of course, I’ll have to send a separate message to Cecil. I can’t have my daughter worried, after all. But to other people, especially to High Priest Marius who was doubting us just a moment ago, shouldn’t we show them how special our relationship is?”
“…”
Yuan’s expression became a little calmer. He lowered his gaze and looked at his right palm. Four red nail marks were still imprinted on his palm. The tips of his once-clean nails were discolored reddish-brown and dirty from the blood.
“Tsk, you shouldn’t take it out on your own body like that.”
Gillen, who seemed to have also noticed the wound on his hand, came and sat down next to Yuan.
“Give it here.”
He took Yuan’s hand and looked at it closely.
“How on earth do you have to clench your fist for it to get like this? You’re strong too. Is it because you’re young?”
Gillen muttered as he carefully examined Yuan’s palm. Finding it somehow ticklish, Yuan pulled his hand away.
“It’s fine. This much will heal with just one healing spell.”
“Do you not need to disinfect it separately?”
He didn’t have to. Why else would healing magic be so difficult? It was considered a difficult magic because it made wounds disappear without a trace. But strangely, the words wouldn’t come out. Yuan hesitated and then said bluntly.
“It’s better to… at least disinfect it.”
Just as Gillen nodded, saying “I knew it,” a knock was heard. The one who opened the door and came in was the robot aide, Sebastian.
“You called, my lord Marquis. Ah, Your Grace the Duke is also here. In that case, you must have called to have a carriage prepared for His Grace the Duke. I will quickly have the carriage—”
“No.”
Yuan quickly cut Sebastian off. Gillen picked up where he left off.
“Sebastian, good evening. We don’t need the carriage right now. Could you bring us some disinfectant and ointment? Ah, is the ointment not necessary?”
Gillen asked Yuan in a low voice. Yuan just nodded silently. It was because he felt an indescribable feeling.
“Then bring us some disinfectant, some alcohol, and a late-night snack. We have to spend the night together, you see.”
“Yes, I understand. I will bring them right away.”
Sebastian bowed and disappeared. Inside the laboratory, only the crackling sound of the fire remained.
“You might not like it, but I’ll have to stay here for today. Will that be alright, Yuan?”
Gillen asked with a smile. It seemed he already knew that Yuan didn’t dislike it that much. Annoyed by that sly attitude, Yuan needlessly stuck out his lips in a pout.
“Hmph.”
“Hahaha! I’ll take that as a yes.”
