Jaren tilted his head, feeling oddly like someone had just praised him.

“Did someone just compliment me?”

He asked, but—

“Jaren, have you lost it?”

“If you do a siege for 24 hours straight, usually you lose your mind.”

“Our minds are gone too~”

“Yeah, when this war is over, I’ll confess to her— mmph!”

“That’s literally a death button.”

“You don’t even have a lover. Why are you trying to propose in the first place?”

The monsters didn’t seem to need rest, constantly surging forward, and in the end, four of the twelve once-solid walls collapsed.

The only good thing was that while the mana turrets were firing, they could rest—if only briefly.

“Still, Mehen stocked up so much stuff in the Northern Castle that it’s actually survivable. There are tons of potions too.”

“As expected of Mehen.”

“Mehen is the best!”

“Honestly, maybe Mehen just wanted to annoy our lord with receipts……”

Someone spoke the truth, but was swallowed by madness and disappeared without a trace.

Jaren felt wronged.

“You idiots, I was the one who requested all that stuff!”

“Then who approved it?”

“Who released the funds?”

“Who delivered the supplies?”

“God–Me–hen!”

Seeing them all battered and worn out, clinking potions together and drinking them like beer while giggling, was ridiculous beyond words.

“Still, it’s not that bad. If we hold out, whether we live or die, we become heroes, right?”

“Yeah. We’re already heroes.”

“My dad said I’d die quickly when I became a knight. Imagine how mad he’ll be when he finds out I became a hero.”

“Oh, same with my mom. She said, ‘What kind of girl becomes a knight?’”

“When this is over, I’m retiring. I’m going to grab our lord by the collar.”

The Saren Knight Order forgot the reality that all warp gates were cut off, making rapid reinforcements impossible.

They forgot that the other northern fortresses were busy preparing second and third defensive lines in case the Northern Castle fell, and couldn’t send extra troops.

They even forgot that they were isolated and might die here.

Instead, they chatted away, enjoying what might be their final rest.

That was when the ear-ringing roar of the mana turret bombardment stopped.

The short break was over.

As the knights dragged their exhausted bodies back out—

“What’s that?”

Everyone’s eyes widened in shock at the scene before them.

“Skeletons?”

“Undead……?”

Countless skeletons were rising up from the monster corpses created by the mana turrets.

Black-robed dark mages burst into mad laughter from all directions.

“Uwahahaha! Rise and follow my command, my servants!”

My sharp instincts were telling me something.

‘This was when a quest should’ve popped up.’

But my status window, like a sick chicken, could barely display only the side effects.

[!Side Effect of Divine Overload!]
[Status Ailment: Reverted to a Child]

And to me, it felt like the status window itself was struggling.

“Dad’s queeest…….”

Ugh, my pronunciation.

‘So it really was Dad’s quest that affected this.’

But it’s fine.

If the path I need to take is clear, then what I need to do is clear too.

I did my best to raise Karjien’s favorability. The “useless and random dragon trivia” Jaren had taught me was incredibly useful.

Also, Karjien wasn’t the only one living in his lair. There were butlers and maids who served him.

Finding out they were all ancient dragons felt strange, but maybe because they were all grandpa- and grandma-types?

“This is the human I brought. Take care of her.”

“H-hello.”

I bowed politely, greeting them as Karjien introduced me, and scurried around until I couldn’t tell whether this was Lemuren or a dragon’s lair anymore.

“Ohoho, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a human child. Do you eat things like this? Want some?”

“Yes.”

“Do you like gold? Hoho.”

“Yes.”

I had no idea who gives gold bars and jewels to a child like toys, but I accepted them as war funds anyway. I also popped the candy Grandma Dragon gave me into my mouth and slowly rolled it around.

Thank you very much, enemy elders!

‘Being in a kid’s body is convenient at times like this.’

More than anything, maybe because Karjien also looked around my age, he seemed to secretly like my childlike appearance.

And looking at his past, this guy was just as good at isolating himself from the world as I used to be.

“Butlers? Maids? Family? Ridiculous. They’re just my subjects.”

“Friends? Do I look like I need such things?”

“Lonely? That’s something weak mortals say.”

‘I get why you don’t have friends.’

With that personality, who would want to be your friend?

‘My master seemed to have a lot of friends, though.’

Both immortals, yet so different.

If I were stronger, I would’ve pinned him down and lectured him, but since I couldn’t, I went with the sunshine policy.

“O-of course! A great im-mor-tal like Lord Karjien wouldn’t need that! Of course, of course!”

I feel like my bootlicking skills are increasing… but that’s probably just my imagination, right?

Seeing Karjien’s lips twitch in a good mood at my flattery, I gently coaxed a lot of information out of him.

First: the declaration that dragons would no longer communicate with humans happened near the end of the God-Slaying Era. And Karjien himself had announced it.

“Why did you dec-laaare the cuuut-off?”

Even Karjien, who had been explaining everything in detail, clammed up completely here, so I couldn’t find out the reason.

‘This is it!’

I instinctively knew it—the reason for the cutoff was the key to changing the Dragon Lord’s heart and ending this war.

‘And during our conversation, I also realized I’d unknowingly been speaking not human language, but Selin, the language of fairies and mages.’

Language of Babel (S), thanks as always!

But honestly, the real problem was the second thing……

“Even looking again, this is insane.”

This place was the Abyss.

Humanity’s eternal battlefield, and the Northern Castle’s eternal front line.

I might be the first human to ever witness the true form of the Abyss.

‘There may have been humans who entered because Dad was here, but no one has ever looked over the whole thing like this. If they had, they’d definitely be depressed.’

The entrance to the dragon’s lair was high above the Abyss.

Thanks to that, the view of the Abyss below was—

‘A picture of hell.’

A massive continent called the Abyss, surrounded by natural mountain ranges, was crawling with monsters like ants.

‘This isn’t something you can fight head-on.’

No wonder every world line I saw in the ruins ended with monsters overrunning everything.

But what truly crushed my will was another sight……

At the place with the strongest mana distortion, energy gathered—and new monsters appeared.

It was so bizarre that I grabbed a passing ancient dragon butler and asked.

“What’s that?”

“Ah, that, you mean.”

To summarize the butler dragon’s explanation, the conclusion was—

“Revival?”

They die outside and are reborn in the Abyss? So this was the secret behind the Northern Castle’s endless monster waves?

“Strictly speaking, it isn’t revival. They are beings whose souls are bound here. Their bodies simply stop functioning, so they are given new ones.”

“Then wouldn’t that cause problems with the bond between soul and body?”

“You understand correctly. But even our king had no other choice. The last god did not grant rest to all living beings.”

Why is the last god suddenly coming up here?

“Creatures that could not pray were not granted divine rest. Our king pitied them and shared his immortality.”

At that moment, a memory crossed my mind.

It was when I received the saintesses’ blessing in Lemuren. For some reason, I’d had a strange feeling that it would be the last time I met them, and I’d asked a question without thinking.

“Why did you become saintesses?”

Even if thirteen of them shared the burden at the beginning, a god’s consciousness was something no human mind could endure. On top of that, to become a saintess, a girl with the aptitude had to swear devotion herself and inherit the role from an existing saintess.

So naturally, I expected an answer about faith in the god of Lemuren.

But there was one unusual reply.

“Many heroes who couldn’t leave their names behind in the God-Slaying Era passed away. We became saintesses to honor their spirits.”

“?”

“Without divine guidance, souls cannot enter eternal rest.”

At the time, I didn’t understand what that meant.

‘Right. In a world where gods existed, there’s no way a god dying wouldn’t have consequences.’

This world was already fundamentally broken—so broken that no one could fix it, no matter what they did.

The moment I realized that, I couldn’t stay still.

“Miss? Where are you going?”

The butler dragon called out to me, but I marched straight over to Karjien and grabbed him by the collar without hesitation.

“What is this rudeness?”

Karjien frowned, releasing an unpleasant aura from his entire body, but I already knew what I had to say.

Looking straight into his eyes, I said clearly,

“Send me back.”
