The fairy lay flat on her back, completely motionless. Whether she fainted or fell asleep, I couldn’t tell—but her appearance was unmistakably that of a fairy.

My team members’ reactions were all different.

“N-no way…”

“A real fairy… for real…”

Seong Hayul and Yeom Juwan were desperately denying the reality before their eyes. I thought they’d be surprised for a moment then quickly adapt, but seeing them this shell-shocked seemed a bit strange.

“What’s the big deal about a fairy? We live in a world with monsters and the Tower, don’t we?”

“Are those even comparable? Fairies vanished 17 years ago in a system bug! Why is this one here?”

There’s only one fairy in <On the Brink of Destruction>.

And it was already known to be extinct.

‘Is it like an extinct animal from that world?’

Finding a living baby Tyrannosaurus one day out of nowhere. When I reframed it that way, their current reactions made a bit more sense.

“S-Sora! F-fairy! Can we t-take it out?”

Only Boram, whose common sense was a blank slate, accepted the fairy’s existence without any preconceptions. Eager to measure its size, she clutched a measuring tape in one hand while peering at the birdcage.

“How d-do we open this?”

The birdcage imprisoning the fairy was made of broken mirror shards, with no entrance at all.

“Should w-we throw it on the ground?”

“Let’s do that later. If we take it out of the cage, it might escape.”

“Ah, o-okay…”

Boram looked dejected, but obediently put away the measuring tape and stepped back. Only then did I shift my gaze to look at the most important two.

“……”

“……”

This was the most unexpected part.

Neither Ki Hyeonmin nor Gyeon Junhwi were saying anything. They’d agreed to help Yeon Sora find the fairy, but they probably hadn’t expected one to actually appear.

But that wasn’t my babies’ fault.

‘I didn’t really think one would show up either.’

The quest window told me to find it, so I searched diligently, but I’d been half-skeptical the whole time.

The fairy knows the Tower’s secrets.

Not just the opportunities hidden throughout the Tower, but the secret of the 82nd floor where humanity stopped climbing, what kind of deal Ki Hyeonmin’s biological father made with the Tower’s creator, what needs to be done in the Tower to save the world, and so on.

Would the author of <On the Brink of Destruction>—that high-frustration plot devotee—really hand over such an important source of information?

No matter how I thought about it, the pieces didn’t fit.

“What should we do?”

“……”

“Let’s wake it up first.”

I asked for their opinion, but Ki Hyeonmin remained silent. Gyeon Junhwi gave a sensible answer.

I had no idea how to wake a fairy, but based on experience so far, there was a high probability Yeon Sora’s special mana would work. So I stuck just my finger through a gap in the cage and injected a bit of mana.

“Uuugh…”

As expected, the fairy squirmed and then snapped its eyes wide open.

[What? Where am I? Who are you?]

But the moment our eyes met, it started jumping around in shock. This definitely wasn’t a welcoming posture.

Come to think of it, that made sense. On the day <On the Brink of Destruction> ended, the fairy had gone around bursting the heads of people who wouldn’t listen.

“F-fairy!”

[Kyaaaah! Don’t come near!!!]

When Boram extended her finger, the fairy entered full panic mode.

Its wide-spread wings trembled, and soon the fairy disappeared, replaced by a yellow ball of light zipping around frantically inside the cage.

Clang! Ping! Thunk! Bang-bang-bang!

Like a pinball machine.

It didn’t seem in any state to hold a conversation. I immediately looked back at Gyeon Junhwi and requested the next instruction.

“What should we do now?”

“If it’s a fairy, it should have important information about the Tower. We need to request cooperation.”

“How?”

“Didn’t it come out in your dream?”

“Nope.”

“Yeon Sora, you found it, so you’re the only one who can persuade it using your own methods, right?”

This was also unexpected.

The Gyeon Junhwi I knew would have somehow created a situation to be alone with the fairy. Then he would have secretly proposed some kind of deal without the team members knowing.

But now he was leaving it to me. Judging by how his eyelashes were fluttering, this was also some kind of test.

‘Ability verification?’

Maybe he was curious about Yeon Sora’s negotiation skills.

This wasn’t my specialty, but I knew what Junhwi would do in this situation, so couldn’t I just imitate him?

“First, let’s wait until it calms down. There’s no point trying to talk when it’s this agitated.”

How long did we wait after that?

When the pinball sounds disappeared and I looked inside, the fairy was sprawled out in a spread-eagle position, panting.

“Feel like talking now?”

[You! What are you! What’s your purpose for waking me!]

“I was wondering if you’d like to come along with us when you have time.”

[I refuse! How dare a mere human…]

The fairy’s eyes were full of hostility, but that wasn’t really a problem.

‘I just need to figure out the weakness anyway.’

According to Gyeon Junhwi, what alliances need is weakness. Alliances based on weakness are safer than ones based on friendship. After finding the weakness, you just make an offer they can’t refuse.

Fortunately, the fairy was providing the necessary information with her own mouth.

[I have no intention of cooperating with the likes of you, so put me back the way I was!]

“Back the way you were means asleep like before? Can’t you do it yourself?”

[……]

Seems I was right.

“Either way, you need my power to fall asleep like before, right?”

[……]

“If you need my help, shouldn’t you give me something in return? Calm down and think it over until evening. I’ll call for you later.”

[Call? What do you mean by that?]

I ignored the fairy’s outcry and spread the magic wrapping cloth on the floor. For reference, the cloth Professor Ban gave me has noise cancellation and zero-gravity functions engraved on it.

“Wait inside here. By the way, even if you scream, we won’t hear you, so feel free to yell all you want.”

[…?]

“Take your time thinking and we’ll talk later, okay?”

I tried to put the cage into the cloth when Boram suddenly grabbed my hand.

“S-Sora… wh-what about that?”

“Oh, sorry. I almost forgot, didn’t I? Take it out now.”

“O-okay!”

I’d promised Boram a fairy fashion show.

I shoved several outfits Boram handed me into the cage.

“If you’re willing to cooperate, put these on too. See you at dinner?”

[Hey! What are you thinking…!]

Ziiiip—

I closed the cloth’s zipper and miraculously, not a single sound could be heard. Having finished what I needed to do, I turned around and smiled at my babies.

“Let’s get going now!”

“What about the fairy?”

“We’ll talk properly later. It needs time to think too. Plus, it’s not like we’ll lose it or it can escape.”

According to Gyeon Junhwi: Don’t harvest before it’s ripe.

Forcing the issue would only make our side look desperate. If it fought boredom in the darkness long enough, the fairy would probably come out a bit more cooperative.

More importantly, there was something crucial I needed to do right now.

“Let’s go hunt orcs! Time for practice!”

It was time for our Hyeonmin to use the holy sword.

* * *

For the next few hours, we devoted ourselves to practice.

This trial’s mission was simple: Kill the orc chieftain, steal the flag, and occupy the orc village!

Actually, it wasn’t easy.

Over 300 orcs had gathered in a single village, and they’d built walls with earth reinforced by orc saliva.

But we had Ki Hyeonmin.

“Ki Hyeonmin! Please!”

Bang-bang-bang—

One swing of the holy sword sent a pure white slash flying. The wall the orcs had reinforced crumbled pathetically easily.

‘Bang Haeun wasn’t lying, was she?’

She’d said this sword could demolish a building in one blow. I’d thought it was bragging, but apparently it was true.

‘Our Hyeonmin can do whatever he wants!!!’

I cheered on our Hyeonmin’s performance enthusiastically while focusing on filming.

We demolished one orc village in 15 minutes, then claimed a second one, and before we knew it, the sunset was beginning.

“Should we make this our base for today?”

The village we’d just claimed was a neighborhood park. With walls the orcs had built themselves, it was safe from outside intrusion, and since the trees here hadn’t burned, it had a real camping vibe.

Overhead, the instructional Drone Eye was reporting the current situation.

[Status of the trials: First trial, everyone passed. Second trial, 12 eliminations. No teams have newly entered the third trial. Those who passed…]

Hearing the news, my team members all let out deep sighs.

“What, do we have to wait again?”

“Moving too fast doesn’t help either.”

From now on we needed to steal flags from people, not monsters, but we were the only ones who’d progressed this far, so we had to wait.

“At least it’ll probably be tomorrow evening before a new team enters, right?”

“That long?”

“I heard on the broadcast earlier that the two most promising teams were completely wiped out.”

For reference, our Junhwi could figure out what situations were unfolding in other zones just from the number of surviving team members and their names. Utterly amazing.

Anyway, the important thing was this.

“So we can play for a whole day, right? Let’s set up tents! Tents! Seong Hayul! Take everything out!”

Normally, the 2nd floor doesn’t allow inventory access, so you can’t bring heavy luggage up. But thanks to Professor Ban’s magic cloth, I didn’t have to worry about bulk or weight anymore.

Which meant I’d brought lots of things for camping with my babies!

“Start a campfire! Let’s barbecue!”

When I pulled tents, a barbecue set, and even pork belly from the cloth, everyone looked dazed. But I brandished my secret weapon.

“I brought marshmallows too!”

“Wow! R-really?”

“Yep, so let’s hurry!”

I’d come fully prepared!

My babies seemed to hesitate for a moment, but soon started moving.

“Yeom Juwan, light the fire, and Ki Hyeonmin, get the firewood. Boram and Seong Hayul, there was a convenience store up front—go get some water.”

Gyeon Junhwi, who’d been quiet all day, assigned errands to the team members, then looked directly at me.

“Want to help me set up the tent, Yeon Sora?”

I could read my baby’s mind just by looking into his eyes now.

He wants to have a strategy meeting alone!

* * *

Gyeon Junhwi only started setting up the tent after confirming the team members had left the perimeter. Yeon Sora busily moved her hands while spreading blankets inside.

“What should we start with tomorrow?”

“Shouldn’t we go out after collecting 10 flags?”

“What about the bug?”

“Ah, right!!!”

He’d casually asked, and sure enough, the expected reaction came.

‘She really did forget.’

During this practicum, there was a high possibility the mastermind’s subordinate would make a move. Yeon Sora herself had insisted we needed to find the grasshopper-shaped summoned phantom beast since there was a risk of it appearing, and Yeon Sora had been the one to argue for it.

Yet she’d completely forgotten.

“Do we absolutely have to find the bug during this practicum?”

She even seemed to want to postpone it.

“It’s not often that all 103 people gather in one place, so it’s better to figure it out now.”

“Really? Then let’s catch it tomorrow. But I didn’t bring any marshmallow skewers—how are we going to roast them?”

This wasn’t an act.

Gyeon Junhwi, who’d been observing only Yeon Sora all day, had already grasped her tendencies to some extent.

The problem was that these results were hard to understand with common sense.

‘Looking at her behavior, this is correct, but…’

When Yeon Sora was faking illness, her Drone Eye was moving busier than ever.

Gyeon Junhwi had seen the raw footage Yeon Sora filmed on the 1st floor. It was filled with selfish motives beyond just personal bias—it was full of dark intentions.

After watching Gyeon Junhwi’s past life, she’d said “Being handsome is what matters.” All the characters she stayed close to were on the superior side of the attractiveness spectrum.

‘Maybe…’

Yeon Sora might not care about extinction or salvation at all.

In fact, she’d seemed completely uninterested in the fairy too. Even when she remembered Bang Haeun’s identity, she’d shown more interest in stealing the holy sword than catching the mastermind.

Yeon Sora’s goals and priorities were different from everyone else’s.

Perhaps Yeon Sora… simply moved for people whose faces she liked.

‘Does that even make sense?’

It was a deduction very close to the truth, but this result only amplified Gyeon Junhwi’s confusion.

“Yeon Sora, when are you taking out that fairy?”

It didn’t make sense… but maybe the method to move Yeon Sora was unexpectedly simple.

Gyeon Junhwi had called Yeon Sora aside separately to confirm exactly that.
