“Should we hurry to the room?”

The moment he received the guest room key, Gyeon Junhwi quickened his steps. He seemed eager to hear what happened between the masterminds and us.

‘You don’t need to rush that much though….’

I planned to honestly spill everything that happened in the courtroom to Junhwi, just not today—tomorrow morning.

The reason for postponing is simple.

‘Juwan can’t find out.’

The mastermind used Yeom Juwan as bait, so I went to the courtroom in his place?

If I tell it straight like that, who knows how our kind, highly responsible Juwan would react.

Above all, we promised not to sacrifice our lives for each other. I absolutely can’t let him discover I broke that promise.

Therefore, I planned to edit out the part where Yeom Juwan was bait. And editing requires time.

‘This time I need to check plausibility pretty thoroughly.’

You can spill truth immediately, but lies need careful stitching front to back. It’s time-consuming work, so doing it tonight and sharing results tomorrow morning is right.

“Can’t we eat at the cafeteria first?”

Since I’d handle the important talk tomorrow anyway, I suggested we eat dinner properly, but everyone was looking at me with disbelieving eyes.

“Today’s menu is griffin steak….”

“G-griffin’s delicious!”

Boram was the only one taking my side. While I stroked Boram’s head with gratitude, Seong Hayul crossed her arms.

“Can you even swallow food right now?”

“Why not?”

“We have so much to talk about! Just buy kimbap from the campus store!”

Behind Seong Hayul, Gyeon Junhwi and Ki Hyeonmin were quietly nodding. I turned my head toward Yeom Juwan, who hadn’t decided yet.

“Juwan, can’t we go to the cafeteria? I get malnourished if I don’t eat properly.”

“You mean nutritionally imbalanced, not malnourished.”

Juwan is meticulous when it comes to my health. As expected, Yeom Juwan persuaded the others for me.

“Let’s eat for just 30 minutes. Yeon Sora’s condition deteriorates rapidly if she doesn’t balance her nutrition.”

Thus we could go to the cafeteria. While waiting in line, I heard surprising words from Gyeon Junhwi.

“You’ve never tried griffin meat? Not even once?”

“That’s right. Somehow…?”

Our Junhwi has been settling for campus store kimbap for dinner lately. I knew that, but… shocking that he still hasn’t eaten the griffin that’s been on the dinner menu all week.

Monster meat is one of the few benefits of <On the Brink of Destruction> possession life!! I’m glad I stubbornly insisted on coming to the cafeteria.

“How is it? Delicious, right?”

I checked for reactions the moment Junhwi finished tasting.

Griffin steak has tender meat like tenderloin, but when chewed, sweet caramel-scented juices flow out like roasted large intestine cooked golden brown.

In short, damn delicious.

Seems to suit Junhwi’s taste too. Judging by how he’s already picking up the next piece of meat with his fork before swallowing what’s in his mouth.

That’s when it happened.

“Gyeon Junhwi! What brings you to Dormitory 2’s cafeteria?”

A cadet I didn’t know approached and whispered quietly in Gyeon Junhwi’s ear.

“Can we talk briefly? Actually… the TA seems a bit strange….”

“Sorry, eat first.”

Junhwi put down his fork and followed the guy. Watching that, Boram grew dejected.

“C-class reps are so busy…. I-it’s been so long since d-dinner with Junhwi….”

“Can’t be helped. Lots of kids still suspect terrorist members are hiding among staff.”

“Th-then will it get easier after the t-terrorism ends?”

“Who knows?”

Seong Hayul swallowed her steak and turned her gaze toward Ki Hyeonmin.

“Normally with two class reps, they’d divide work by headcount, but that’s not working.”

For reference, Ki Hyeonmin is also a class rep. But since he’s so quiet, kids only approach Gyeon Junhwi.

“……”

Ki Hyeonmin was silently chewing steak. Doesn’t seem to be savoring the taste. He’s chewing at a constant speed, forcibly shoving it in like fueling his body.

“Sorry.”

Gyeon Junhwi returned quickly. But less than 5 minutes later, another cadet came and took Junhwi away.

“Seems like a Field Training question this time.”

The Robin Hood operation had a major flaw.

After rescuing weak citizens from the evil lord, these citizens kept coming whenever there’s a gap asking ‘what should we do going forward?’

And our Junhwi accepts all of it.

“Sorry.”

The moment Gyeon Junhwi returned after quickly finishing consultation and sat down, he lightly covered his mouth with his hand while narrowing his eyes. …He yawned.

‘Oh my! Gyeon Junhwi yawning? Totally adorable!’

Gyeon Junhwi’s defenseless yawn, always conscious of others’ gazes, was truly cute. When he opened his eyes again, his red pupils grew moist and truly sparkled like gems.

So pretty I was gaping in admiration when Yeom Juwan’s voice came from beside me.

“How about sleeping early today? You didn’t sleep at all last night.”

Clang!

Strength left my hand without me realizing and my fork fell. I didn’t even think about picking it up.

“Junhwi, how many hours do you sleep per day?”

“How many hours?”

“You sleep at least 4 hours, right?”

Junhwi laughed weakly. Seems he doesn’t sleep at all. Even when checking Gyeon Junhwi’s status with my skill every night, I’d never seen him sleeping.

‘Our Junhwi… has too much work!’

Just this week alone.

Consulting citizens rescued by Robin Hood, investigating Hwarang Guild, writing mastermind interview scripts, investigating Go Daesik and Tower Goddess materials….

On top of that, class prep, student council activities, club activities—when would my baby have time to sleep!

Something…

Seems like a solution is needed.

* * *

After safely finishing our meal, we headed to the guest room. Called a guest room, but it’s essentially an apartment.

“Han River view!!! Night scenery!!!”

“P-pretty! Th-the sunlight sparkling on water in the m-morning! I want to see!”

“Island kitchen! Marble floors!!! Luxurious!”

“Th-this clock is p-pretty!”

“Let’s pick rooms!”

Feels like we caught a luxury pension and came on a trip?

Getting needlessly excited and making a fuss here and there… but the remaining kids calmly settled on the living room sofa.

“Can you tell us everything that happened today, without leaving anything out?”

‘…Oh, right.’

Gyeon Junhwi and Ki Hyeonmin don’t know what happened.

I stopped sightseeing and obediently went to the living room to sit, when Boram also came and sat beside me.

“Two men came today. Bang Haeun’s father and uncle….”

Seong Hayul briefed what happened today in an orderly manner, with Yeom Juwan and Han Boram adding commentary in between.

“Her father was strange. Felt like he was trying to extract information more than worrying about his daughter.”

“Th-the chairwoman and him went whoooosh and it was s-scary!”

“Felt like they targeted Yeon Sora from the start….”

“R-right! The b-blue-haired man kept glancing at S-Sora!”

After the briefing ended, Gyeon Junhwi began more specific questions.

“Those people didn’t try to assign blame?”

As expected… our Junhwi seems to have somewhat grasped the mastermind’s ability.

‘Do you need to acknowledge responsibility to be summoned to court?’

But we never particularly acknowledged responsibility. I was rewinding my memory when Seong Hayul spoke up meanwhile.

“Rather than responsibility… seems like they tried to make us feel guilt.”

“Guilt?”

“They asked why we didn’t tell professors when Bang Haeun showed unusual behavior. Like we’d neglected a preventable tragedy.”

That Seong Hayul, smart as expected.

Anyway, seems guilt is needed to be summoned to court. Then it explains why our kind-hearted Juwan became the target.

Nodding in understanding like that, when Gyeon Junhwi looked toward me and Yeom Juwan.

“You two, did you feel guilt?”

“……”

Yeom Juwan silently lowered his head. That alone was answer enough. Gyeon Junhwi’s gaze turned to me.

“What about you, Yeon Sora?”

“Me?”

If I say I didn’t feel guilt here, they could easily deduce I was dragged there instead of Yeom Juwan.

Our Junhwi is an intelligence character who could figure out the truth even without prophecy—I’d overlooked that. I haven’t decided the editing direction yet….

Not knowing how to answer, I decided to evade for now.

“I… feel like I was thinking something….”

I pressed both temples firmly with my hands, then suddenly grimaced hard.

“Aaaaaaah! S-sorry….”

The symptom all amnesia patients experience in dramas and movies—chronic headaches! I don’t know if my acting is natural, but it seems to be working.

“You don’t have to push yourself.”

“No, sorry. Feels like I’ll remember….”

Roughly passing the answer like that, when Gyeon Junhwi looked at Yeom Juwan again.

“So what did Yeon Sora say right before collapsing?”

Even if I evade, he plans to keep questioning Juwan. This… isn’t something headaches alone can solve.

“Aaaaaaaaah!!!”

I buried my head in both hands and prostrated on the floor.

“Y-Yeon Sora? What’s wrong?”

“S-Sora, does it hurt?”

“D-don’t know! Talking about that moment makes my head! Aaaaaaah!”

Hugging my head, rolling left, rolling right.

Seems a bit exaggerated, but I faked illness somehow and swept the floor.

“Let’s check her temperature first, since we don’t have a monitoring system.”

“Should I give her a potion?”

“How about putting her to bed first?”

“N-no… I’m fine.”

After that too, I acted out brutal headaches whenever Gyeon Junhwi questioned Yeom Juwan. When this repeated about ten times, our Boram appealed tearfully.

“D-don’t t-talk anymore! Wh-when we talk about that moment, Sora hurts!!!!”

“Does seem that way, doesn’t it?”

“Maybe some kind of memory tracking is attached?”

I’d wondered if this would work… but fortunately it did.

Faking illness is a specialty field of mine, so seems it was decent-level acting.

“Let’s just sleep early today and talk tomorrow.”

“Will tomorrow be okay?”

“If it’s not okay, we’ll have to wait longer.”

Thanks to that, I bought some time.

I mulled over the guilt-Yeom Juwan-Yeon Sora setup that emerged from the meeting and hastily started editing. This was surprisingly difficult, so even pulling an all-nighter didn’t produce answers.

I created an appropriate prophecy the next afternoon.

* * *

At that time.

A hotel across the river.

“Still no change.”

Astaroth was glaring at the glass dome with tired eyes. The dome that had been person-sized had shrunk to basketball size. The scenery inside showed no change whatsoever.

“Just… a bit longer.”

The prescient answered with difficulty, dripping cold sweat.

He was tracking future variables caused by Yeon Sora. Running the skill all night drained severe mana, leaving him with no energy remaining.

“How about stopping now? You don’t look well.”

“I’m fine.”

“Lord Python, it would be better not to push yourself….”

“I said I’m fine.”

The prescient stubbornly continued tracking, but the gazes from Astaroth and the priests turned cold.

‘Just give up already.’

Watching the orb all night was torture. An endless wait with no changes occurring. Fighting boredom was harder.

Then the door opened and a new priest entered.

“Lord Astaroth, the report on what you mentioned yesterday.”

Astaroth eagerly snatched the report.

It contained content he’d ordered investigated.

“Are there no detailed contents of Professor Ban’s research?”

“That’s everything, sir.”

“What does it mean, ‘finding universal methods to overcome individual limits and walls of the Awakened’…?”

“I apologize. I also don’t really….”

The first page was about the professor who’d provided the device to Yeon Sora.

They’d been wary of considerable technical skills, but on paper he was incompetent. He hadn’t published a single paper in 10 years, and his research topics were full of pipe dreams.

Flip—

Astaroth turned to the next page.

A report about a woman named Cheon Ari who’d drawn blood.

“Researcher Cheon Ari… was in the same class as Ha Seonwoo.”

“……”

“Python. What do you think? Didn’t the foreseer, Phoenix Guild, and chairwoman join hands after all?”

“What?”

The prescient flinched.

Most masterminds were claiming the foreseer-Ha Seonwoo-chairwoman were plotting something.

The information just obtained supported that hypothesis.

“The change occurred when meeting Cheon Ari. Isn’t this side correct?”

“……”

The prescient spoke with difficulty.

“Perhaps… Yeon Sora can’t remember the courtroom. That’s why no change appeared at all.”

“……”

Astaroth and the priests looked at the prescient with cold gazes. If Yeon Sora couldn’t remember, it meant they’d stayed up all night for no reason.

Whoooooom—

Movement began inside the glass dome at that moment.

The ruined city inside the glass dome gradually restored.

But all the buildings were strangely half-restored.

Buildings here and there were only halfway returned to their original form.

“What does this mean?”

“……”
